Stock Froyo with black status bar? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I'm running stock froyo rooted and modified to my liking. I have my phone running very stable with great battery life and dont want to mess around with flashing any customs ROMs just yet, atleast not until we have a stable CM release or until we get our hands on the G2x 2.3 OTA. However I do miss having a black status bar. I was able to accomplish getting it by replacing stock frame-res with the eagles blood one and replacing the file so the clock will be white but since its pulled from a custom ROM there were also other modifications made to it and I wasnt happy with it. I dont mind doing some editing my self if I knew which files and lines to edit. I would just like to run the stock froyo with a black status bar and white clock with no icon bugs if possible. Any thoughts or ideas?

[Q] Gingerbread look

Can we get a rom or theme that has a Gingerbread status bar (bars/WiFi bars/battery icon etc.) and similarly themed drop down panel?
I see tons of roms but they're either tacky or stock. The theme in the theme/apps section doesn't work with the T-Mobile USA Sensation 4G stock rom and the dev is completely uninterested in fixing the issue nor does he want to outline that flashing it will get you a soft brick because of the quick settings mods.
So, I'm wondering if a dev is nice enough to take the time out to offer a theme or rom with a GB look that works with the T-Mobile USA rom for the Sensation 4G.
You should just have to flash a Sense ROM and then replace the battery & 3G/4G icons with the green stock gingerbread ones

Froyo on ICS?

Anyone know how I could get the old colors .. like that status bar and volume / slider / circle animation BACK .. I always liked Froyo but I have to Use ICS because for some reason other roms are messing up on my phone .. any way ?
I didn't even know there were Froyo ROMs for Nexus S, since it was the first phone having 2.3 (gingerbread). What froyo are you talking about? Gingerbread is easily available, stock and custom also, very stable.

[Q] Drop-down menu widgets?

Hey guys. I switched from my slow, glitchy, and just aging captivate to the nexus S a few days ago, and I love it.
There are a couple things I miss though - the big one being the quick setting widgets in the drop down menu. I don't care if it's an app/widget from the market, or something I have to flash in to the rom. I just want those settings up there.
Is there a way to add those without flashing another rom? I like stock gingerbread (and I'll be switching to ICS when it comes out OTA for 9020A) and I don't want to flash a custom rom like CM or something. I'm rooted, but other than that I'm stock 2.3.6.
Other things I miss are a predictive dialer, and swype. If you can help me out there too I'd be greatly appreciative!
Edit: Oh, and the music controls shown in the menu would be nice too! (but only if it will work for google music)
When I moved to the NS from a Vibrant I felt the same way. There is no way to do it without some modding and I don't remember ever seeing a simple flashable zip to add it to GB. I ended up having a love hate relationship with CM7 but have moved to ICS and there is a mod to add it to some ICS roms in the dev section. I have yet to bother adding it.
Anyway, yes it can be done but not without some flashing or modding but if you aren't wanting to do that you are out of luck.
You can get similar functionality to pics with widget locker or extended controls, you get an icon or space in the status bar though. GB doesn't support it.
Music widget as above is available in stock ics too.

I really like stock, but I can flash if I *have* to... I've had a love hate relationship with CM myself, I felt like it took a little too much effort to keep up and running.. With the Google apps packs, and the nighties and constant backing up and flashing, you know. Is CM up to ICS for the Nexus S 9020a yet?
I also recently came from the captivate. I was also determined to stay stock and wait for the ics ota but....
The development for the ns is light years ahead of what you and I were used to and i am impressed after flashing a pretty much stock ics rom with a custom kernel. No toggles in the drop down but it sure is nice having everything working like it should. Fast and smooth! Peter Alphonso's ics
Eugene's Speedy 3 kernel

Best ICS ROM that fits my needs?

The amount of ICS ROMs available right now is getting overwhelming to compare. Right now, I'm on stock 2.3.6 (Rooted) and am content with it, though obviously it could be better. I used to have CM7 and loved the toggles in the notification menu and the ability to customize the power control widget, though I did have some stability issues every once and a while. I had the official ICS on my i9020a for two days, though I had terrible battery life, so I downgraded back to stock Gingerbread.
Preferably, I want something that doesn't have a bunch of half-working features. I just something that I can throw on my phone (Being able to install it overtop of gingerbread would be great) and not lose battery life or
oICS is what i'm digging right now. Nothing broke on it. I'm still on the fence for kernel though. Experimented with speedy-3 and trying glados now.
nexusbeam 4.2.3 is a solid choice for ics with some useful tweaks like notification shade toggles and some launcher enhancements. SWAT miui is also really good, but miui ics doesn't have its new music player yet

Lollipop Dilemma

So it's come time for me to make a choice.
For the record, I've been rooting and flashing custom ROMs since my old Moto Droid. I do like Sense however and have been sticking with the RUUs provided by @dottat and just throwing Xposed on top of that with a few modules to make the M8 almost perfect for me. However, my work provides Good for access to corporate email. For those who don't know, Good has a root check built in, but I've managed to bypass that with a handy Xposed module. That's unlikely to be carried into Lollipop.
Here's the rub. The way I see it, I can
RUU to rooted Lollipop and give up Good. It's more a nice-to-have for my job anyway...but it is nice to have.
RUU to rooted Lollipop and then unroot, keeping Good but losing Xposed, gaining all the lollipop goodness.
Stay with KitKat because there just not that much of a reason to upgrade.
I welcome all opinions, particularly those of you running the latest Verizon M8 ROM. It seems with Sense, the UI hasn't changed a whole lot, but I realize under the covers it may be worth it.
Isn't there a xposed module that allows good bypass root detection?
Yes it is called RootCloak. I am unsure if it is compatible with Lollipop as it has not been updated in some time.
I've been using Good For Enterprise Root Checker (also an Xposed module) but if you follow that thread you'll find that Good is getting much better with the checking. I'm running an old version of Good plus an old version of the checker to make it work on my device.

Maybe just me, I just don't see Lollipop as a great upgrade from 4.4.4, material design just seems extremely boring. I've ran several per-release lollipop roms and also installed the rooted ota update. no matter how much I try to spruce up it, I still wind up going back to CleanRom 4.4.4 with some RealIcon Themeing. I personally can't stand plain ole white icons or just colorized icons in the status bars. Love the custom Icons I am able to install in the status bar, navigation bar and Icon Themes on my home screen. I have updated my firmware, but still running 4.4.4 I can definitely live without the update..... I'll stay right here until a dev decides to add a little pizzaz to 5.0....
That's interesting that you took the firmware upgrade but still on 4.4.4. In another thread, somebody said not to do that. But I was thinking at least that would get you updated radios and should be backwards compatible.

I'd say drop Good. Having root is so much more valuable. Better backups, able to (un)install what you want. And if something says you can't use your phone the way you want, drop it.
Does anyone have message preview for incoming text messages?

I've been thinking of doing just that... I just don't see lollipop as a big update. I wouldn't say it improved much... Maybe it's all in my head.?
