Hi, I can really recommend the TF, Touchwiz UX is not yet ported to the Transformer, however it has been ported to the Acer A500, which is very similar. The developer of that is "reportedly" trying to get it on the transformer. Whether he gets it or not, I'm sure someone will so don't let that put you off!
the mini apps from touchwiz are part of the ROM, you need all of touchwiz to use them...
Hi Guys ... and Gals,
Am thinking of getting a TF for my wife ... 16GB without the dock.
The experience I have with Android is ... well, pleasant! I use the Nexus S.
Well, since I'm using the Nexus S, I would be interested to know if the TF comes with the original Honey Comb that can be updated directly from Google or if I would have to wait for updates from ASUS.
Yes I know all things are possible with a root, but:
a) I don't want to be messing with her tablet everytime.
b) I think the ASUS keyboard with the numbers on the top line is nice. Is it available as a separate download? Is it available for the mobile too?
I'm currently on holiday and would like to buy it so ... before I move back to is there any particular problems I should look out for?
Thanks for any help
Updates happen through Asus. Though they seem to be on time with them.
I think all tablet updates come from the manufacturer

Thanks both
So, the only way to get newer versions IF Asus start behaving like HTC or Samsung is to root it and put in a custom rom! Fine ... no probs. Atleast while the going is good, we don't have to worry.
Any known problems I have to look out for before a purchase?
Thanks again.

It's not the known problems you should be concerned about, but the unknown ones.
Get a newer model. Serial code should start with B60xxxxxxxxxxx. B40 is original. B50 middle.
I have a B50 and its nice. Other then that be on the look out for screen bleed. iPad2s have bleed just like everyone else. Some are extreme. Most are barely noticeable. Just keep an eye out.
Asus Transformer 3.1 pwnd

Asus made some subtle changes ( icons on the status bar) but asus was the first company to push out the 3.1 update ( after the xoom )
Thanks ... guess that will help
It's normal that the update come from the manufacturer.
Asus must have to include the specific drivers for it's tablet (not all the hardware is the same, even if the main platform is based on Tegra2)
It also made few modifications for apps integration and visuals.

The Xoom was only first in the US, everywhere else the Transformer got 3.1 before the Xoom. Actually the Xoom only has 3.1 in US, Australia,Japan and China.
it just has a few mods (buttons + some widgets and wallpapers)
My understanding is that the Surface tablet will be delivered with the colored keyboard which snaps on with magnetism.
Do you think this keyboard will be available with nordic char layout at the first release? Maybe MS will release it only in the US first and then later on to Europe?
When im running english ROMs in my android device (with virtual keyboard) it's possible to download one with nordic letters, but this is not possible for a hardware keyboard, obviously...
I think it's pretty much not worth it to have the english layout, and therefore i can't order it from the US if it will be announced over there first. I wonder how many months after the US release Europe have to wait if that's the case?
Asus Switzerland on facebook has posted that the 4.2 update would come to Asus transformer pad tf300t in March. So we could expect something soon on our infinitys.
Well March has 31 days but it would seem it is on the way. Let's hope it is 4.2.2

That's what I'm thinking. Nice of the tf300 community to guinea pig it for us again.

In theory, it could be June, July or August (depending on if there's any serious bugs).

Let's remember for a moment that they used the TF300 to test and fix Jelly Bean, too, before bringing it to the TF700.
Though to be honest, I'd rather skip 4.2 altogether.

For me, it depends on the SystemUI. If they switch to the horrible 4.2 layout, I expect *someone* to come up with a port of the old tablet system bar.

Yeah, I still can't figure out that design decision, especially sine it actually takes up more screen real-estate (because you now have a top and bottom "system bar")...

Looks like tf300 is already getting the OTA, from their forum:
- it's 4.2.1
- you can switch between old and new layout they (they call it launcher)
- some people say it runs very smooth

Will it have any effect on the internal NAND I/O performance, or is that purely a hardware issue?

That is great! Let hope any bugs they find on the tf300 will be fixed before they release 4.2 for the tf700!. I'll be waiting for Cromi version of 4.2

While they can't really fix the slow NAND memory, they *can* do things to significantly reduce the effects of the slow NAND (just as @sbdags has done with CleanROM). However, I wouldn't expect that to happen... Typically the manufacturer doesn't go to the level of performance tuning that a third party developers does.... Hopefully, I'm wrong, but that's my guess.
