Master Reset - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello,
I have a Samsung Infuse 4G and rooted it and deleted all the bloatware. Does anyone know how I can do a master reset as if the phone came straight from the factory. The Reset under Privacy does not do it. I may have deleted something I wasn't supposed to.

You should install all the apks of all the apps that you removed. You should have made a back up first before you removed the bloatwares so you can restore, sorry to say master reset can not bring it back to factory state.

Maybe ask somebody if they have a factory backup of all apps, and push those to /system/app/.

Factory reset

I've only done this on stock roms. What happens when you do this if your on a custom Tom?

If you perform a factory reset on a rom using the phone's factory reset under privacy it will brick your phone more than half of the time... Would not advise.
Have the captivate odin3 one click stock flash on the ready and before you do anything, back up your apps with Titanium back up. Type "captivate bible" in google and it will take you to the proper place.

Factory Reset

I was wondering if you need to reinstall factory apps(browser, home, car dock, etc..)(I prefer after market apps for those) or will they automatically be reinstalled on factory reset. Also do i need to unroot or uninstall titanium backup, root explorer, and any other apps that require root. My purpose is to reset the phone back to the way it was the first time i ever turned it on. Thanks in advance for the info.
Droid2 Rooted.
Stock Kernel and OS.
hey there,
not to sound sarcastic, apols if it comes over that way, but you kinda answered your own question there.
.....if you factory reset (like it was the day it was made) then expect exactly that.
Not taken that way at all. I am kinda new to this stuff, good with computers and stuff just new to the phones. Maybe i can be more specific. I used titanium backup to remove some system apps you can only remove when rooted. I was going to use the hold down x while turning the phone on method. Then selecting the wipe data/factory reset option. My question's are- Do i need to unroot before doing this? Will this reinstall the apps deleted by titanium backup or did i really screw up by deleting them(stupidly used the free version of titanium, instead of paid, so only saved the data of system apps, not the app itself)? Thanks again and sorry for the unclarity of my first post.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S HardReset

Hi,
I upgraded my Samsung I9000, from Éclair 2.1 to Froyo 2.2, with Odin, (everything is working fine), but...
My question is;
If I do a Hardware Reset does the phone downgrades to is factory default, in this case "Éclair 2.1", or it stays with the last OS installed?
Does anyone knows what happens??
Cheers,
Striken
A hard reset is different than a master reset. Hard reset only entails removing the battery from the device.
To answer your question, once flashed with a ROM, performing a MASTER reset, will bring the phone back to "factory" defaults, i.e. just like it was the very first time you booted it AFTER installing the custom ROM.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Man,
You are talking in a Master Reset, how exactly do you do that?
When I did a software reset it erases everything on the phone, contacts, apps I installed, everything except what belongs to the Rom I installed. Also the phone stayed like when was installed for the first time...
From what I've read an Hard reset puts the phone to is factory defaults, but when I did a soft reset it also stayed "brand new", like factory default.
My question is: does a hard reset erases the rom I installed and puts my phone like it was before I upgraded with Froyo 2.2?
I never heard anything regarding a "Master Reset", can you explain me more?
Thanks,
Striken
Also interested in learning how to Master Reset before playing with ROMs.
Bookmarked for later, thanks!
Hi Kops,
If you also learn anything about it please post it here ok?
Thanks
I believe you can find the stock firmware for your phone (2.1 or 2.2) and use ODIN to flash to that. By doing so, you will revert to 100% stock settings, no root, and no proof that you've flashed your phone at all.
In my opinion, this is your best bet for a "full reset".
When you flash a new firmware, the firmware is permanently installed. Performing a factory reset will NOT revert your phone to its older version. Only a reflash will do this.
Factory reset only resets things that are stored in user data space. Such as your contacts, custom settings and any apps that you have installed (not counting those that Samsung/Google have put into the system)
So there you have it. You can safely perform that reset if you want.

Thanks for the help guys,
So, there's no difference between a soft and hard reset? Or is the factory reset an hard reset?
When I did a factory reset it erases everything and restored the phone to is default settings.
So, the only way to put the phone back like it was when I purchased is installing Eclair 2.1 again...
Thanks,
The only way to get 2.1 back is by reinstalling an official samsung firmware. Yes. If you have an official samsung firmware though, the phone is as it should be.
A soft boot is generally where you send the device a reboot command or turn it off and back on. A hard boot to reiterate generally happens after the battery is removed and reinstalled. This is not what is known as a factory reset and will not modify anything.
A factory reset formats the userdata and cache partitions and resets all settings to default including deleting any apps that were not installed on the factory firmware.
I hope this has answered your question.

It did, thanks.
The only problem is that I never found an official Samsung firmware, in this case the Eclair 2.1 from Vodafone.
If you know any site that have that Rom please share it
I would like to have it so I can restore the phone in an urgency...
Cheers,
Try samfirmwares.com

Thanks man,
Don't want to be a pain, but just one more thing if you or anybody knows...
When I both my phone it came with Eclair 2.1 from Vodafone like I said.
You presented me with a page that have the 2.1 stock Rom from Vodafone, but, originally the phone had a Vodafone startup animated logo.
Do you know if the rom in that page has that animation startup?
Thanks,
P.S. One more thing, when I said that I didn't find anything in that site I was mistaken, it was not that website but samfirmware.com website.
Thanks again,
Its a stock rom. Just like the one that shipped inside your phone. It will have all of the features of the ROM you started out with.

You can remove all user data that is located on internal memory by typing *2767*3855# in dial pad and NO it won't downgrade to previous firmware.

Safely remove bloat?

Can anyone list what apps can be removed safely? What is the best method for removal? Tibu to delete?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
you need to know that if you remove any of the apps then you wont be able to upgrade to gingerbread once tmobile releases it. I suggest you freeze them.
You could always remove what you don't want now & when the gingerbread update releases do a factory reset & then you will be able to update

Factory reset does not bring back deleted apps. Don't we have factory firmware for this phone?

Yes we so have a factory image

There are a ton of them. Root. Root Explorer. Delete Spree.
I removed some bloat apk's from /system/app so now I can't do the official Gingerbread update once T-Mo releases it?
Removing applications has nothing to do with upgrading to Gingerbread. Trust me, I've already upgrade to Gingerbread on my N1.
Official Upgrades require = Stock Rom
So unless you created a special custom rom that you are hiding, I think you are fine.

a hard reset won't restore them. i've done it. deleted apps are still missing.
Even if you removed apps (tmo apps, games) you will be able to update, when update starts to hit, unroot and update...

Factory Reset

Quick question. I've rooted the phone, removed the bloatware and install Paul's fix. All is great except my battery life is abysmal.
Thinking of doing the factory reset
What all will that reverse for those who have done it? Just want a heads up so I know what I to redo.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
It will set the phone back to how it was when you first took it out of the box - no accounts, apps, etc. (except for the root stuff i think?). But if you let it, when you connect your Google account a lot of stuff will automatically come back such as apps, wifi settings, etc.

You should still be rooted after, and if you enabled google to backup your data, most of your apps will reappear and begin downloading automatically.
Once you remove the bloat they are still gone. I removed many bloats using root uninstaller. When I reset the phone they are still gone. You would have to go use this method to go back to the way your phone was when you bought it.

I rooted my phone and removed the bloat. Then I went back using the link above. I went back to my bloat free version using restore.
You will still be rooted. Tested this yesterday. All my downloaded apps were removed. Superuser will still in app drawer.
