[ROM][06-10-2011] EE4 Debloated V4.2.1 - Verizon Droid Charge

I took the ED2 ROM, deodexed and zip aligned it, then debloated it and added in a few useful things. This has most of the stuff removed that came with the Stock ROM, including TWLauncher, which has been replaced with AOSP Launcher. The ROM is rooted and also includes busybox for some useful linux tools. I've also included the Gingerbread keyboard from here as another keyboard alternative. This is not fully tested yet, so there may be a few issues. As people use it, I can add things people would like (such as mods as they become available), or remove stuff people don't want/use.

So, I've already got the voodoo lagfix from jt1134 on my Charge, would using this mess that up?
Oh and thanks for the work you've done!

beautiful... will try in a few.
thank you!!!

No, you will need to flash this via the CWM that he posted.
I'm also trying to get "Go Back" into CWM, as well as releasing a kernel posted soon.

You can use the three button method "VolUp-VolDown + Power" Release power when the Samsung logo appears.
Or
Use Quick Boot from the Market, works for me.

Quick questions, can this be flashed over voodoo?
Do I have to do a wipe first?
Thanks bud.

I'd actually use "Reboot Button" since it also manages the Voodoo lagfix file...

Ill be all over this later on tonight, Thanks IMNUTS

Same question as above, I just installed voodoo's kernel. Do I just boot into CWM and then install as a .zip?

This can be flashed regardless of what kernel you're on, as long as you have CWM available. You can choose to wipe cache/dalvik if you want, but it isn't necessary from my experience.
If you were on stock and had an update for My Verizon, you may need to use Titanium Backup to finish removing it as I found out. The same likely goes for any other apps that were in stock but were updated from the Market.
I'll start removing more things then as I figure out what it is they do and if they are necessary for normal use of the phone. There are some apks left that I'm not sure what they do yet, so I'm leaving them in for now.

If you keep the media hub, you should probably revert it to ED1 so the can't play on 3G "feature" is gone.

open a command prompt, cd into the android-sdk/tools directory and run
Code:
adb remount
adb push /sdcard/AW10/removed/nameofapp.apk /system/app

Wow, and I thought I was the only person with Appalachian Wireless to Root, you know I had a terrible time rooting. Just about every guide I could find was for Sprint only. I wish I had found you about 2 months ago. I had to upgrade to the Stock 2.1, before I was able to root. Did you have as hard of a time getting your Hero rooted as I did on Appalachian Wireless? Just curious.

no i waited until 2.1 was released and rooted, i didn't want to take the chance of messing up my carrier settings with the sprint RUU, and not being able to restore them, i was tempted though very tempted.

please be patient with me I'm working on this, should be fixed in a little while.
OK because all my files on mediafire got wiped
and i was going to release this newer version in a couple days anyway, i decided to go ahead and post it tonight.
the only thing missing that i wanted to include in this version is some custom mods i made for it.
i decided to just add them to the original post as metamorph addons instead of including them with the rom, that way you can pick and choose which ones you want instead of me I'll try to have them up soon.
Very nice codejunkie. You've got a little more accomplished with this rom than what I got done with it. My rom was pretty much bare stock. Nothing removed. I was able to get it de-odexed, but when I started looking into changing the rosie, that was when things started becoming unstable.

[ROM] OmegaEVO v1.1 [[NEW 3.30.651.3 OTA]] [[Froyo 2.2]] Updated 11/15/2010

For my new ROM please go HERE
Installation instructions & other useful information
To install on your Evo:
1. Copy OmegaEVO_v1.0_by_Ricsim78.zip to the root of your SD card.
2. Shut off your phone and boot into recovery.
3. Do a full wipe (Data, cache, Dalvik, SD Ext.) Do it twice to be sure if you want to!
4. Install OmegaEVO_v1.0_by_Ricsim78.zip. It should take a few minutes to install.
5. Reboot the phone. It should take a long time to start up the first time. Please be patient!
6. If all goes well, enjoy your new ROM!
7. If not, start over from step 2 after pulling your battery.
To install a custom kernel: Let the ROM load up first and then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the custom kernel and reboot.
To install a theme: Let the ROM load up first and then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the theme and reboot.
How to backup and restore using Titanium backup Here is the method I use to backup my phone information before I wipe and install a new ROM
I backup my entire phone with a batch "Backup all user apps + system data"
Wipe and install the new ROM,
I open Titanium Backup (TB) and give it super user rights.
I hit "Updates?" in TB and make sure I am running the latest.
I hit "Problems?" in TB and make sure I am using Busybox 1.60
Hit menu and select batch
Select "Backup all new apps + newer versions of apps", if any.
Select "Restore missing apps with data"
Go over the list and make sure you are restoring only what you want
Hit run batch operation
After it completes, go back into TB and backup restore.
Restore contacts twice
Restore MMS twice
Restore Mail twice
If any of the 3 above do not take, do it again
Restart your phone
Verify mail, MMS, and contacts restored. If not, restore again.
Why Amon RA and not Clockwork recovery?
Clockwork does not wipe the Dalvik properly (if at all). I personally have had nothing but problems with both Clockwork and ROM manager
I have said countless times that if you use either of the above, it is at your own risk. Install Amon RA recovery and I bet any wiping/installing problems will go away.
If you already are using ROM manager, pick the option to install a custom recovery, choose Amon RA 1.8. If that option is greyed out, reinstall the latest Clockwork then install RA.
Note: Do not do a fix permissions with anything unless you need to, you can screw stuff up that way.
Trust me, the new ROM is devoid of problems (I have never tested a ROM this much before releasing it). If you experience any, it is either something you are doing wrong or incomplete wipes thanks to your recovery not doing it's job properly.
What is the proper method to install the ROM and other things (kernels, themes, and mods, etc.)
Lets say you want to add a kernel, a theme, and then a clock modification.
Nandroid first!
ROM: Wipe data, cache, Dalvik (twice), SD:EXT.
Install the ROM.
Let the ROM load up the first time.
Sign into your Google account
Let it sync
When the sync icon goes away, reboot into recovery.
In recovery, wipe the cache and Dalvik (twice)
Install the theme
Reboot
Let it load all the way up again.
Reboot into recovery
In recovery, wipe the cache and Dalvik (twice)
Install the kernel
Reboot
Let it load all the way up again.
Reboot into recovery
Wipe the cache and Dalvik (twice)
Install the clock MOD
Reboot
This is my method and works every time without issue. Obviously, to install another item, you would repeat the process.
Hope this both helps and clarifies.
Which kernels work with this ROM?
Any that are designed for a Sense ROM. This includes:
Netarchy's
Kingclick's
Hero Over's
Ziggy's
HTC's
Which kernel do you recommend to use?
I cannot recommend a kernel for you because each EVO reacts different. The best for my phone can be the worse for yours.
You have to try the different ones available and pick the one that works best for you. What I do is start with their latest and work your way down until you find one that works well. Then stick with it.
This also goes for overclocking, SetCPU settings, etc.
Which themes work with this ROM?
Themes make your phone look nice but can also add problems to an otherwise smooth running ROM. You can use any theme you wish, but Nandroid first and if anything is broken, please do not blame the ROM as it is the theme that added the problem.
This includes my older modded themes and any theme made for 3.29 and 3.30 OTA updates They may work or they may work but break things.
Using my theme avoids this problem. It matches with my ROM perfectly and breaks nothing. Also, my theme is optimized for maximum speed and reduces the overhead of a theme (most themes are not optimized and add a bunch of stuff which increases system overhead, reduces battery life and speed a bit). As an added perk, it is a small download.
Hey, what gives? How come this ROM is saying it is 3.30.651.2 when I thought it was the 3.30.651.3 OTA?
3.30.651.3 is NOT a full ROM, it is a kernel and a few other minor changes. This is why the OTA is 7 MB or less instead of 160+ MB like a ROM usually is.
There is no issue, this is the 3.30.651.3 update. Hence the HTC # 17 kernel. Notice the screenshot in the first post also says that mine has 3.30.651.2? That is because basically this is a bandaid for a recently released OTA. That is why the number went up in the last decimal place. A major update would be like 3.31.XXX.X
sounds good, any screenies?
Screenshots available soon. 10 char

Well, without recooking it or using a theme (which would take out my wallpapers) no. Let me see if I can come up with a better solution. If not I will re-cook it with a different battery icon.

That was how this ROM was born, I liked almost all of the ones on the board, but none had the ringtones, notifications, or wallpapers I wanted.
Problem solved! Glad to see it is working for everyone as well. I had no problems with this ROM, think it helps that it is based off the OTA and not a custom ROM.
I will keep this ROM updated. Future plans is to come up with a Sense removed, AOSP element version and add more customizations. I also need to update some of the apps (TB, to name one). I kept some of the stock Sprint stuff in just so no one had problems updating the Voicemail or other Sprint apps left in.
Please rate the thread and let me know if there is anything I should include, change, etc. etc.

Sounds good man, hehe. Please let me know what you think and I hope you like this ROM.
I begin work on the next version of Azrael today, expect version 2.1 out soon, By Wednesday I should have it tested out and ready to go.
Known changes I am going to be making:
-all apps updated
-battery indicator changed to Smooth battery with percentage (far more useful than the one Azrael 2.0 is cooked with and so far the only complain heard about this ROM) *knock on wood*
-Another custom wallpaper or 3 thrown in for good measure
Whatever changes I make, I will of course note them in the release notes.
I also want to get some more theme options available, maybe modify some themes so they do not take out my custom wallpapers. That way you can make this ROM more how you want it to be as well.
I really hope everyone who tries this likes it, I know I am up there with some really good ROM makers here that have far more reputation, but so far everything has been positive and I hope that at least a few people find my work useful.
Lastly, I am glad to offer another ROM option and give back to a community that has given me much.

Sorry for that Skin1980. I was in a hurry to get my hands dirty on XXKPH. I have my own version of CWM, where I am doing more things like 2nd partition in External SD, EXT4 on internal and external SD, Busybox 1.19, etc.
I have a different version of CWM version created for public, as I have very different setup from the rest.
I really liked your work on CF-Root, so I thought of including that as well and also provide you necessary credit.
Also, I am in the process of porting CyanogenMod for I9003 (still a long way to go), in which I would be creating a different version of CF-Root.
I am going to remove the CF-Root portion from my version of CWM and will post this soon (Removing the current CWM version from this thread, for now).
You are correct, I could have contacted you. Sorry again for that.

[Theme] Asus Quick Settings 27/02/12

So after a few days of the release of ICS, I've seen people complaining about the quicksettings panel which looked to me like a combination of honeycomb and ice cream sandwich. Epic Asus is epic. So today, I decided to spend some time theming it to look more like ICS on the whole. Enough said, a picture tells a thousand words.
I dunno what else are needed to be themed. As I spend more time with ICS and if I spot some Honeycomb rubbish graphics, I'll update this thread.
Compatible with any deodexed ICS Roms. Not compatible with AOSP Roms (CM9, TeamEOS etc.)
Flash this everytime when there's a major rom upgrade (Rebase etc)

For Revolver Users ONLY. From Beta 1.3 onwards, there is no need to download this framework.jar as it is included in subsequent updates.

For Revolver users, I've modded the framework.jar in /system/framework such that caching across all apps are disabled. This will reduce scrolling lags. I assure you this mod will not wipe your system, erase your data or whatsoever. Though, if it eats your cat, it's not my fault because it works well for me. However, if you're scared, make a backup of the your current framework.jar before applying this mod. For more information regarding this mod, read here.
Here's what you should do if you want this mod:
1. Download the framework.jar into your sdcard. Backup your current framework.jar[OPTIONAL]
2. Using a file manager which can mount rewrite and change permissions, copy and paste the framework.jar into /system/framework.
3. Overwrite your current framework.jar.
4. Change the permission according [permissions should be the same as the other .jar files within the folder].
5. Reboot.
6. On startup, you should see a system update, just like when you first flash an ICS Rom. Do not panic because no data will be lost.
7. Enjoy the smooth scroll mod.
8. Hit some thanks if you liked the mod.
Nice to know VRTheme still works. Did the script need to be modified or did it work out of the box?

Thanks, was going to do the smoother scrolling mod myself when I got home, now dont have to
Buttons and quick icons look soo much better too!!
I put a few hours into those galaxy nexus buttons figuring out how to make it work right.
Flashed theme and it looks good!
thank you i thought i was the only one that didnt like the stock ics quick settings
Worked like a charm. Thanks!
Tested on android Revolution D
Thanks, gonna give it a go
At first when I used ICS on TF101 I thought ASUS did a really good job and didn't really notice this theming. After flashing the new update to Revolver (included) this is a amazing theme.
Really good work
Is this supposed to be flashed using CWM?? I've tried it (using the Rogue one) and it fails with Status 0. Have tried to download again a few times, from internal and from SD, always the same. Any ideas?

Try unzipping and zipping the contents then try flashing again. If not I recommend using rogue recovery. I guessing it has got something to do with the scripting. Not too sure man. I believe all those who can flash uses rogue.

As I've said, I use Rogues CWM too, tried flashing from Internal memory and from microSD, but none work. I'll try unzipping and zipping again and report back
Please update for Asus's latest .17 update. Thanks!
I cant flash too - status 0
Tried to unzip and zip again with no success...
CWM 5.5.0.4 from Roach

It will still work all it is doing is replacing png's who's locations have not changed from .10 to .17
Flashed this using Rogue CWM on ARHD and worked fine.
Can I use this on rooted stock ROM without CWM, meaning just replace the SystemUI.apk with the one here? What do I do with the odex file?

[REQUEST] Platypus Egg Kernel flashable

I posted this in the general section, but no one has answered it. Please release the platypus egg kernel as a .zip file or post a link to where I can download the kg2 odin file so that I can flash the bali port. I want voodoo and refuse to flash an entire rom just to get voodoo.
check the heimdall thread i have it posted there last 2 pages
heimdall isnt working on my computer unless you posted an odin file in that thread its not going to help me.
Unless you are in love with the Samsung launcher vs. GOv2's Launcher Pro (or my preferance: download ADW.Launcher), there is no reason not to upgrade to GOv2 and get all the other tweaks in addition to the Kernal.
I know you say you've had trouble in the past, but just try it like this:
1) Boot in to CWM with the GOv2 zip on the sdcard.
2) Check your mounts
3) Run a backup
4) Check your mounts
5) Wipe data, wipe cash, wipe dalvik-cache
6) Check your mounts
7) Flash GOv2
8) Check your mounts
9) Advanced-Restore data partition only
10) Check your mounts
11) Reboot
Best case, everything works great and you just upgraded the Kernal as well as many other good things / tweaks, while still keeping all your apps and all your config.
Worst case, just boot in to CWM and restore what you currently have. You only waste about 15min of your life in trying, and I don't see how GOv2 could have any drawbacks over stock+bali (other then the alternate Launcher and themed icons/widgets - I installed AWD, unthemed all my icons, and I love the transparent-black widgets).
You should NEVER need to Odin unless you can't get in to CWM (which should never happen).
NOTE: When I say check your mounts, each partition on that CWM page should read "unmount" (meaning they are currently mounted). Check your mounts before/after each step, including before the final reboot.
I know how to check mounts. I want to keep touchwiz because of the themes. I really like the stock themes, and none of the launchers from the market have the option to view the app drawer as a list. if they did, i would consider using one of them. the stock themes are not really what is important. viewing the app drawer as a list is. my process thus far has been as follows: odin to kd1, kies to kj2, root, backup, flash rom, then restore system only from the backup. it hasnt been stable enough so far, but right now i am considering trying it a little different. i am going to get back to stock kj2, then delete all bloatware and all google apps from the system, then backup, then flash, then restore system from the backup, then reinstall any apps i want from the market. I also have the .apk file for play store, so i am also going to delete market and market updater before backing up. then after restoring system, i am just going to install google play store from my sd card. if anyone has any thoughts, please respond soon. i already odined back to kd1, getting ready to do kies to kj2. that takes a few minutes as i have to unplug the phone from the pc and reinstall the drivers through kies.
But I would prefer to just flash the kernel. I dont see any reason why they wouldnt release it.
well, after a very lengthy and complicated process, i finally have the platypus kernel on kj2. here is what i did. i started kies mini but didnt plug my phone in yet. i just went to menu and install driver. then i odined. after reboot, unplug the phone, back to kies, install drivers again. plug phone in and update firmware through kies. after reboot, unplug and install driver again. turn on usb debugging and root through super one click. reboot. install drivers again. then go through the system and delete all google and tmobile apps. get cwm running and take a backup. connect mass storage and copy b2tb to sd card. flash according to instructions. reboot. let the phone sit while i walk my dog. come back, boot into recovery, select advanced restore, system only. fix permissions, wipe dalvik, reboot. reinstall desired apps through market website. that was all last night. today i supercharged. so far so good.
well, its been almost 24 hours since i finished everything up. stable so far. no random reboots, no force closes, no screen lag or freeze, no crashes. i kept my backup from before the flash, just in case. gonna give it another day or two to make sure everything really is stable, then take a backup of the current setup. once i do that, im leaving this phone the hell alone lol.
To clear the record, I never had trouble flashing roms except for once and it was because i flashed cwm through rom manager before i knew not to do that. my most recent trouble started when i attempted to move dalvik to my ext2 partition. something went wrong when i attempted to move dalvik, and it got deleted. i had a backup and tried to restore, but got an md5sum mismatch. i did a factory reset through voodoo and it screwed up my apn settings. i restored default settings, but it didnt work. so basically after much trial and error, i have a stable advice again.
Do you still want this as a flashable zip???

i don't have a flashable zip unfortunately, but what i've been doing is flashing the zimage thru Odin. if that helps you at all, if you're comfortable with Odin, i've been meaning to upload the tar file for the kernel that i made to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538576
WolfV2 said he would add it to the OP once i uploaded it. other than that, ReActiveDisorder had made a flashable zip, but i see that all his links have been removed.
edit: there's also nxd's tutorial on flashing a kernel with Hemidall here:

Wait hold up, what am I thinking... had a little brain freeze there!. You could just use nxd's build of the Bali Kernel for KJ2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1663622
That also has the keystroke logger removed, AND a patch to improve keyboard responsiveness and efficiency!
