To Reinstall
connect your phone to your computer
choose charge only when prompted on your phone
open a command prompt, cd into the android-sdk/tools directory and run
Code:
adb remount
adb push /sdcard/AW10/removed/nameofapp.apk /system/app

place .zip file on sd card
reboot into recovery mode
nandroid backup
wipe
wipe dalvik cache
install AW10.zip file
live wallpapers are optional, to install them flash lwp.zip via recovery separately from the rom.
known issues:
issue: if you flash the lwp.zip and the rom together at the same time, it can cause boot loops.
fix: install the rom let it boot once, reboot then install the lwp.zip.
issue: updating of google maps in market fails
fix: uninstall old version first by going into Settings/Applications/Manage applications uninstall maps then re-download from market.
NOTE: Live wallpapers only work when using an alternate launcher like ADW or Launcher Pro from the market.

Wow, and I thought I was the only person with Appalachian Wireless to Root, you know I had a terrible time rooting. Just about every guide I could find was for Sprint only. I wish I had found you about 2 months ago. I had to upgrade to the Stock 2.1, before I was able to root. Did you have as hard of a time getting your Hero rooted as I did on Appalachian Wireless? Just curious.

no i waited until 2.1 was released and rooted, i didn't want to take the chance of messing up my carrier settings with the sprint RUU, and not being able to restore them, i was tempted though very tempted.
Could you please host this somewhere else??? I cant get it to download from mediafire..

please be patient with me I'm working on this, should be fixed in a little while.
OK because all my files on mediafire got wiped
and i was going to release this newer version in a couple days anyway, i decided to go ahead and post it tonight.
the only thing missing that i wanted to include in this version is some custom mods i made for it.
i decided to just add them to the original post as metamorph addons instead of including them with the rom, that way you can pick and choose which ones you want instead of me I'll try to have them up soon.
Very nice codejunkie. You've got a little more accomplished with this rom than what I got done with it. My rom was pretty much bare stock. Nothing removed. I was able to get it de-odexed, but when I started looking into changing the rosie, that was when things started becoming unstable.

THIS ROM HAS NOW BEEN SUPERCEEDED BY MODACO ROM 2.0. I WILL NO LONGER BE PROVIDING UPDATES/SUPPORT FOR THIS ROM.
12/18/09 Update
Here is my most recent version of the updated MoDaCo rom. I have fixed the version display info.
This rom should be safe to upgrade from stock or MoDaCo 1.1 roms.
If you experience force closures the issue is with your dalvik-cache or your boot-cache.
You can clear your dalvik cache from the recovery mode. Do not do a factory wipe. Choose the dalvik-cache wipe/clear.
You can clear your boot-cache from adb as a temporary fix by typing:
rm -r /data/boot-cache
reboot
Changelog:
1.3a:
-rebuilt properties file
-shuffled some apk's around
1.3:
-no longer requires wipe to install/upgrade
-fixed ssh password in about screen
-fixed version info to show correctly
-all market apps should show correctly
-updated to busybox without color codes (this is for the windows users using adb shell)
-upgraded to latest relase of wifi tether
-minor performance tweaks and optimizations
-minor interface tweaks (new lockscreen animations)
1.2c:
fixed issue with protected apps not showing up in market
reverted displayed version # in phone settings (sprint update is still there though)
1.2b:
fixed builld/version info
fixed force close issues for people who upgrade from MoDaCo 1.1
1.2a:
manually patched Sprint Maintenance Release to MoDaCo 1.1 rom.
Get 1.3 here.
Install from the recovery console. No wipe should be necessary!
Please post here if you have problems.
Just flashed from 1.1, getting a bunch of force close messages on boot can't use internet, software version 1.29 so no update, don't know if I should've flashed from stock but thought id try from 1.1.
I'll look into it later right now I need sleep. FYI I updated from a stock patched Rom freshly rooted. You may need to do a wipe for it to work properly. Also i hand copied the individual patched files into the modaco 1.1 to make this work. I am new to this so I do not know how to update the version # by hand editing yet.
getting a bunch of force close messages also, plus it lags pretty much
dunno why but i tried it,thx anyway..time to flash again .
Is the bluetooth audio streaming working?
works great nice job man
i would also like to know if you can play media via bluetooth speakers on this ROM...all ROMs w/ the MR update don't seem to be able to do it, but the Sprint MR update w/ no custom ROM installed can
I got a bunch of force closes when it booted up. I also noticed the browser and some google apps will no longer open and just force close.
mine works perfect
Works fine for me. I did revert back to stock before doing the update and reset my data to be sure.
The build number in the "about" screen is the old number, but things do seem to be updated to the new stuff anyway. To change the build number, I think you need to edit the /system/build.prop file.
Great work!
My force closures have healed themselves! Well, except for the "market" app but I bet I can uninstall/reinstall it.
Obelisk, hopefully this description of my steps helps in finding some answers...
Last night, before I saw obelisk's first few posts regarding his experiment, I had decided to bite the bullet and flash back to the stock Sprint RUU.
First I copied all of my app and app-private folders to my SD card. Then, I did a nandroid backup and then flashed the RUU. I let Sprint download and install the MR. Then I rooted and flashed the recovery image. This is when I found obelisk's posts and decided to try it out. After I flashed his "unofficial" update I booted up and then rebooted (it stated "reboot required" in the menu\settings\about phone\build number after "MoDaCo Custom ROM"). At that point everything was working fine. No force closures, phone was sleeping correctly, I had mute and speaker phone buttons in the call screen, etc...
I decided to copy my apps back, restore my nandroid backup (even though I knew this would undo everything I had just done) and then reflash obelisk's updated modaco again. After doing that I rebooted and got a ton of force close errors. I just closed them all and went to bed!
HERE"S THE WEIRD PART! I woke up this morning and the only force close I'm getting now is with the market app (and ONLY if I try to open it). All my other restored apps are working fine. I am about to go to work but I will play around with this some more. I'm keeping it for now!
I just rebooted and all of the force close errors came back. I guess I'm going to go back to my original pre-MR nandroid backup.
i think the problem is related to the software version number which i haven't figured out how to update yet, so a lot of the apps, and yes there were about 20, that were patched in the maintenance release don't get updated properly until i increment the rom version somehow. i'll mess with it tonight when i get home from work.

How do you go about doing a fresh ruu?
I'm going off of memory here but...
1. download the sprint RUU
2. install HTC Sync on your pc if you have not already done so
3. connect your phone to your computer
4. run RUU (it's an executable file)
5. Follow prompts
6. Reboot phone into stock un-rooted goodness/badness depending on your opinion.

EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed that's a different error.
Great Rom
I came from a rooted stock Rom wither the Mr update...wiped, flashed...apps2sd, then reboot. Worked flawlessly! I also added the extras from another Rom and everything is running fine. Great work on this..
are you getting error code 107 or 170? google provides no help for error code 107...
CM6 Extender was put together to enhance CM6 with a few small tweaks, but not make any major changes to the UI. Everything included can be found around the xda-developers forums, or directly from the developer, for free. I just combined them into a single zip that can be flashed in place of the GAPPS zip when installing CM6. Changes to stock CM6 below.
Includes all latest Google Apps (GAPPS)
Removed Facebook/Twitter (because they are easily found/updated in the market, makes sure you always have latest version)
Removed ADW Launcher, Replaced with LauncherPro 0.7.6.0
Replaced kernel with CM6-Snap-v7.4-havs875/OC/UV http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=733099
Added SNAP-widget by spiicytuna to manage/monitor it
Replaced Default Keyboard with Droid-X Multitouch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754948 (White with green highlights)
Creates a folder in your SD card with installers for Swype 1.61 and HTC Sense KB with 2.2
Added ES File explorer (To install those keyboards)
Added MSL Reader (Donate to the dev link within app)
Added Flashlight Alerts by apristel (not enabled by default, Donate to dev by purchasing from market) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699978
Added Sprint TV
I will update Snap kernel once the 8.0 battery issue is solved.
Please donate to the CyanogenMod team at http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
Recommended Instructions:
1. Back that NAND up!
2. Do a full data wipe from recovery.
3. Flash CM6 (update-cm-6.0.0-Supersonic-signed.zip)
4. Flash CM6_Extender.zip
5. Reboot, enjoy
Updated: Moved LauncherPro to Data folder due to stability problems having it in the RO System folder. Also moved ES File explorer and Sprint TV to data folder so you can uninstall them if you want. (You can also download ADW launcher from the market and uninstall LauncherPro).
Also added a bunch of wallpapers to the SD card folder. A bunch of CM wallpapers plus the Galaxy S Wallpapers (all static)
New download link below.
Download Link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FHWJYYWV
If you use Firefox like me and want some sweet Chrome to phone action, go here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/161941/
You should also grab SetCPU to take advantage of the new kernel here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...6&d=1278385677
Should work with both RA and ClockworkMod Recoveries!
If you find any bugs or know of something cool I need to add, post it below! Thanks!! Also, if someone could provide a better mirror, that would be awesome!

Was it a syntax error by chance? I've gotten that a few times. Been trying to figure out a permanent fix.. will re-upload when fixed..
EDIT: I think I've got it. Updating with Snap 8.1, then a new upload coming.
EDIT again: Snap 8.1 is causing a ton of boot loops for me. I'll try and fix this tomorrow night :/
After reboot, I get the HTC screen and then nothing. Have to remove battery to get anything to work again (at which point, the same scenario occurs unless I boot into recovery mode).
Never mind - I just realized this was for EVO's only. I'm using the Hero.
sucks i cant run 875 but i can run 8.1 900 for some odd reason when i try to flash the other kernel over the extender its gets a error after the intial setup page and screen goes black then i restart it and get bootloop... o well i really just want the keyboard i found it though thanks is there a way to remove adw launcher and use launcher pro?
nevermind...

The new Snap 8.1 kernel was EXTREMELY unstable for both me and my gf, so I'm skipping this version. I'm going to try the one he posted earlier today without HAVS and see if it works any better. It would boot loop every 30 seconds...
I'll also put in the new google voice with widgets while I'm at it.

I actually put in hulu in the beginning and it didn't work.. I couldn't figure out why after a good amount of tinkering, so I took it out.. Perhaps I'll give it another try soon.
I am having an issue. I am trying to install MyBackup Pro to restore my settings and apps from my CM6 nightly ROM and every time it starts to install the app, the phone locks up and shows the cyanogenmod loading screen and then launcherpro restarts. Any ideas?
Changing the wallpaper also locks it up. It was stuck in a loop where the launcher was crashing out to the cyanogenmod screen and then wouldn't start and then back to the cyanogenmod screen. This lasted for about 3 minutes.
Well, I tried reflashing it and now I'm worse off than I was. Can't get past the setup step. Keeps boot looping then crashing. I have been using this thing for 20 min and have already had more force closes than I have the last week and a half on my previous nightly. I give up.
Benjio12 it looks like you are attempting to simplify my life. Thank you for the tweeks I'll make sure to ck it out and follow this thread.
8.2 kernel and battery life?
Do you know if the new 8.2 kernel has resolved the battery issues and if so would you be willing to make an updated zip?
Thanks!!

I'm also running into similar issues except launcherpro doesn't restart and cyanogenmod load screen loops
Ok I installed this patch and after placing the widget my phone became laggy and the HTC dialer will not install.
I'm running a clean slate of cm6.0 but it doesn't install. I even dropped it in system/apps/. The droidx installs, its the default when you first boot.
What do I do?
I have a bunch of questions, but here is where I'm at.
I had 2.2 stock OTA. I then used bootstrapper to place dr154's Deodex OTA 2.2 onto my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794007
Next, I again used bootstrapper to put NexTheme on my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=749692
Question 1: Are both the deodex OTA and NexTheme now on my phone, or did NexTheme replace the deodex OTA? If I were to load another Theme on, would all 3 coexist or would the other(s) be replaced?
Question 2: If I were to factory reset my phone, what would it revert to? Stock? dr154's deodex? Etc.
Question 3: If vzw released a system update, do I have to do anything to my phone before I receive it?
Now more questions regarding SYSTEM APPS.
Problem 1: MotoTorch was preloaded as a system app, as a part of either Deodex or NexTheme, assuming these coexist. When a new version came out in the market, I could not update to it, because it was a system app. Superuser, same thing, a newer version came out, couldnt get it, "installation unsuccessful".
Problem 2: Additionally, lots of the system apps aren't even recognized as installed by the market. So sometimes you won't even know if an update is available. This was the case with MotoTorch.
So I used the common solution that everyone uses and that I found with a little searching, I loaded adb and mounted /system/app as rw, then removed the apks. Then reinstalled them from the market. Then remounted /system/app as ro.
My question regarding system apps is this:
Question 4: What is the advantage of having an app be a system app?
Question 5: The stock system apps such as Amazon Mp3, or City ID - can I safely remove these? Which ones CANNOT be removed? When I did ls /system/app, there were a huge number.
Lastly, I am new, so I'm sorry if I missed it or could have search it or whatever, but I'm wondering....
Question 6: What is tranquility exactly? I see a lot of themes say they're based of tranquility? If I wanted it, where could i find the newest version? If I install a theme based off tranquility, and then a new version of tranquility comes out, can I reinstall tranquility on my phone, then reinstall the theme and will then the theme be using the newest tranquility?
Question 7: What are the advantages of being blur-less?
Question 8: Is xda the best place to find new themes? Or is there another more centralized site?
Thank you very much for any answers!!
just about everyone of your questions are answered somewhere on the web, but ill give it a shot anyways.
1. Themes only replace certain apks, (this is usually stated in the themers OP) so at times you are most likely going to have a merge of themes, sometimes you will notice it sometimes you wont.
for example, you load a new rom which has apks 1-20. Now you load a theme that has apks 1-6. next you decide to load theme 2 that has apks 1-4. then you load theme 3 with apks 1-2. so even though your main theme is is theme 3, you still have parts of 1 and 2.
2. I would avoid a factory reset, just keep a backup and a copy of the rom your on. And if need be boot to recovery and restore one of those.
3. Yes you would need to revert back to bone stock, best done with an sbf. Google it, that subject is beaten to death.
your using the term system app wrong.
1-2. if the apps were loaded and pushed to system/app they usually wont update. the apks should be in data/app.
when you did the mount/uninstall/install this loaded the apk to the proper data/app location.
4. again wrong terminology. consider system app an app that is either neccesary for phone to run or an apk that MUST be in system/app
5. google "remove droid x bloatware"
6. would take way to long to fully explain that. newest can be found on rom manager or TBH.
7. personal preference, plus less &%$# running in the background.
8. no centralized site, you can find different stuff on different sites. mydroidworld, droid-life, droidforums, droidxforums, etc.
thanks for your answers, but when i ls /system/app i see a lot of useless junk that I am pretty sure aren't required for the system...
the theme gave me mototorch to /system not /data
Here's the BIG question. Did you make your own nandroid back-up before you started this whole process? In other words- did you go into bootstrap recovery and create a back up of your phone first? and then do all this other stuff? Bc that is the easiest and number one way to return your phone to its factory settings. In fact- at this point it may be the only way. With 2.1 we had an SBF file which was essentially the original "rom image" (i come from windows mobile so forgive me). So if you were tinkering around or flashing roms and something happened - you could restore using the SBF to the factory state.
On 2.2 there is no complete SBF. Team Black Hat released a partial SBF they are calling a "system SBF" that can help people that have fubared their phone installing themes and what not. But i don't think it returns the phone to factory settings- I could be wrong since I am a complete newb to android.
So to make a long story even longer- that is why I asked if your remembered to make your own nandroid back up of your phone b4 you did all this stuff- so you have a way to return your phone to its original factory state. If you did not- then don't let it bother you. I have read many posts from seasoned android users that simply got excited and forgot to do it. Eventually - the SBF has to be leaked and we all can sleep a little easier.
I didn't make a nandroid backup. Thanks for letting me know about this, now I know not to try to revert until a true sbf comes out, you might have just saved me from bricking. I guess if an OTA comes out, and we still don't have an SBF, I'll just have to wait for a customized version of that OTA to be released.
Turns out the full SBF was released yesterday by the way:

Yes- this is confirmed lagitamate. So you are good to go. You can now restore to factory by downloading this sbf and using RSDlite (RSDLight? - can't remember).
So- didn't have to wait to long
I recently got into flashing custom ROMS onto my Droid X. I have had it since launch and was rooted from the day the first root was released, rooted after the 2.2 OTA and recently, have gotten kinda bored of the same old launcher pro and got into looking at custom ROMs. Last night I successfully went through the process of flashing ZapX semi-blurless rom. I loved the speed and not having all the moto junk but have noticed that you can't necessarily use themes on blurless ROMs. I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a good ROM or themed rom that I could manually remove bloatware or at the least a themed ZapX rom? Thanks for the help in advance!
rubix focused 0.5, period
Haven't tried zapX yet. I've run Rubix for a few days and it's been great. Just loaded Apex this morning, but haven't had time to 'run it through its' paces'.
As for themeing, if you are comfortable with editing the zip file for the theme, just remove the blur related APK's that have been removed from your system
May take a little investigative work to make sure you remove the right ones, but it's doable.
FYI, Fabolous (Apex) also released a version of his NexTheme for the Apex ROM and it looks pretty nice.
Thanks for the help! Im probably gonna use the RubiX ROM and mess around with the .zip
I have fabolous nextheme with teenfaces + bigdx (swype + multitouch) + removed blur related themed apks + win7font (probably from env theme) + vanilla lock screen mod
And I am loving it

LMAO
so if i have a rom installed (the deodexed 2.2 OTA that someone released), and then I install another rom on top of it, is it completely replaced?
whereas if i install 1 theme on top of another, they coexist?
also, themes can only go on top of roms that are deodexed, correct?

The way I understand is that the theme only replaces portions of the ROM that realate to the visuals. It leaves the meat of the ROM applying to it operating intact. Correct me if im wrong.

Yes & no. Themes generally only replace certain files, but many times those files are certain application APK's. And the theme may ADD apk's that you didn't have (ie, you have a blur-less ROM, and put on a theme that includes blur stuff).
If two themes don't change/replace the same file, then yes portions may co-exist.
Not all ROM installations are completely wiping /system. Some of them only replace the portions of /system that have been modified. Thus, you could theoretically get some intermixing of two ROMS as well.

if im getting ready to go from an OTA 2.2 rooted w/ build.prop mods and bloatware frozen; what would you suggest doing to retain a list or backup of my current aps to know what i want when i get back up and running after flashing to rubix blurry? appbrain sync be sufficient?
also, syncing contacts/etc possible via backup assistant; or is that removed as well (or down-loadable in the market)?
im looking to get back to where i am now widget, app, contacts, etc wise after getting back up with the least problems due to no syncing or having to write everything down.

if im getting ready to go from an OTA 2.2 rooted w/ build.prop mods and bloatware frozen; what would you suggest doing to retain a list or backup of my current aps to know what i want when i get back up and running after flashing to rubix blurry? appbrain sync be sufficient?
also, syncing contacts/etc possible via backup assistant; or is that removed as well (or down-loadable in the market)?
im looking to get back to where i am now widget, app, contacts, etc wise after getting back up with the least problems due to no syncing or having to write everything down.

Appbrain will certainly work for creating/maintaining a list of your current apps.
The Froyo Market app, however, also does this if you have your google account set to backup. When I re-flash (way more than I would like to admit ), first time I sign into my google account, and go into market, it starts downloading (a very long list!) of apps that I had.
Note that this will just get your apps/widgets installed. Any data/settings/screen layouts will need to be re-created. I've not found a good way to restore this yet. While there are some programs (titanium) that will do this, it's been known to create problems.
As for contacts, I have both an exchange and g-mail accounts. My contacts are automatically synced there. If you put all of your contacts on your google account, they should sync as soon as you sign in.
I don't know much about 'offline' methods of contact syncing.
For starters I would go with 928 Black Glass

As long as you don't use Titanium to restore anything for /system it works fine. that is where the problems all come from as people restore /system things from an old build that does not work on there new build.
IMO the best way to restore apps if you want all your data settings back is to use My Backup Pro.
DI14_pick-n-pack_0.2 ROM for the Samsung Mesmerize
I have reworked this ROM to make it a little easier to work with. In the 0.2 version, you will be able to flash the main package without any need to add files like in the 0.1 version. As for the removed apk files, they are now flashable either individually or in packs depending on what they are. I felt this would be an easier way to still get what you want but not having to put things together before flashing.
I still recommend that you take a backup before you flash anything. I am not responsible for any damage you do to your phone while flashing any or all parts of this ROM. I also recommend that you download both the ROM and Addons at the same time so that you do not have to wait for a second download after you have already flashed the ROM.
Also, to be clear since there has been confusion, MMS is 100% functional in this ROM because it uses stock MMS, not AOSP.
*****This ROM contains these apps:
ADW Launcher
Browser
Camera
Clock
Contacts
Gallery
Gmail
GTalk
Latitude
Maps
Market
MMS
Music Player
My Files
Navigation
Phone
Places
Quick Boot
ROM Manager
Settings
Superuser
Task Manager
Titanium Backup
Video Player
Voice Search
*****Files in the Addon Packs
AllShare
BuddiesNow
Car Cradle
Daily Briefing
Days
Desk Cradle
Dual Clock
Email and Yahoo EMail Pack
Facebook
Galaxy Help
Live Wallpaper Pack
Memo
Mini Diary
My Contacts Backup
MySpace
Samsung Weather, Stock, Calander Pack
ThinkFree Office
Tone Room Deluxe
Touchwiz Calander, Calculator Pack
Voice Commands
Wireless Modem
Write and Go
*****IF YOU HAVE VOODOO INSTALLED, DISABLE LAGFIX FIRST*****
Download the ROM and Addons. Unzip the Addons and decide which packs you want to flash. Put the ROM and individual Addons on your sdcard and boot into recovery. Flash the ROM first. Then you can flash the Addons individually. When you are done, reboot. If the phone hangs at the boot animation for more than 5 minutes, pull the battery, do three button to get back to recovery and do a data wipe/factory reset. Reboot and things should be fine.

I don't see why not.
Awesome! I'm reading up some more on how to flash these roms in and I plan on using this one. I'm new to this and just learning.
I installed ROM Manager and installed "flash clockworkmod recovery" (it said I had to) and then I clicked backup current ROM. I have tried twice, and it said failed each time.
I'm afraid to try it again, as I don't want to ruin my phone.
Any ideas?

Try going in to recovery by turning off the phone, hold the power and volume down button. Once in recovery, select apply sdcard:update.zip. That should get you get you to clockwork recovery. From there select install zip from sdcard and then choose zip from sdcard. Find the zip and flash it.
Let me know if that works.

If you've already done one backup, you're ok. If not, go ahead and do one.

I sent you a PM.
Everything works. Installed without a hitch, has all the programs gone that I wanted and kept the ones I wanted by switching them to the correct folder.
This guy got on chat with me and walked me through step by step, great guy with a great ROM!

Thanks. That was my thinking. A lot of people were asking for apps to be put back in to jt's super clean ROM so I figured this was the easiest way that anyone could just drop in what they want and it would be custom tailored to their needs.
Since I've seen over 200 people look at the page but only 2 download the package, I'm thinking that there's got to be something to the hesitation. Feedback is welcome here, and encouraged. If this is too scary and people want something that they can just flash, throw some ideas out to me. I'm definitely open to suggestions.
I think the holidays may have something to do with it. Personally, I plan to use this once I get my phone rooted (for some reason z4root locks my phone up every time) But I want to wait until the rushing, travelling holiday is over because I cant go without my phone =)
I'm happy with the SuperClean Rom and Voodoo 5 right now, otherwise I'd have given this one a shot.
I'm still using this and I have had no issues. I like being able to choose which programs are going to be on my droid, instead of having all or none that I want.
I am getting same errors also..
I have done super one click..
Run Rom Manager and chose ROM it asks to reboot I get error.
When I choose SD update.zip it boots back into a image that has sceens that have black widgets.. All other Samsung and USSC stuff is still there as well as ROM Manager..

You have to do some work on the files to make ROM Manager working.
Get Clockwork Working
That will let you make the backup.zip and install from the SD card. Threw me for a loop as well.
One thing I do not want to lose or at least be able to find in another app is the SMART ALARM ..
I know... I got used to it in just a couple days. Love the way it sort of eased you awake instead of a full on GET UP..
So question would be. Which apk and dependencies would I need to keep and or anyone know of another app that would give me same with more options.
