[Q] Deodexed ROMs and Bootloader Question - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I have A Rooted Nexus One running STOCK GingerBread 2.3.4.
I've been trying to flash a couple of Deodexed ROMs through ClockWorkMod Recovery, so i can later flash Arabic RTL support... But after installing these ROMs, my phone stalls at the Nexus One logo... and i endup restoring my previous ROM.
So my Question Is:
Do I have to Unlock The Bootloader, for me to install a Deodexed ROM?!

[Q] Stock recovery question for OTA

I found This topicon how to get back to stock recovery. My question is wouldn't you have to be on stock rom and the stock hboot for the OTA to work? or the HTCinstaller dosen't car just as long as the stock recovery is still intact?
I dont see the point, but thats just me.
New update comes out =new custom rom (stock or not stock) on xda
just backup important data before flash. some roms dont require a wipe if u r coming from the same rom 1 version under.
check rom threads. IMO no need for OTA.

[Q] I need some answers about Nexus S

So I bought Nexus S from second hand recently mostly because it will get official ICS support from Google.
So because it's second hand buy, I really don't know if I'm using original bootloader, kernel, radio etc.
It's rooted (because I have Superuser app), I think it has stock 2.3.6 android (build number GRK39F) and kernel version 2.6.35.7-gf5f63ef, [email protected]#1.
Can someone who use stock android and original kernels confrime to me that this is right version?
I really want to update to ICS using incremental update which I found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445635) but I'm affraid to don't screw something because of bad experience when I radio bricked my desire
Can I update it to ICS or I need to do unroot or something?
Just download the correct stock ICS rom for your device (if it is I9020T or I9023) ,put it on the SD root and then flash it using the stock or CWM recovery and be done with it (if you need the ICS)
most likely you won't be update by OTA because you are rooted (system file verification will fail)
just download stock ICS ROM and flash it ...
Ota will install fine if its a stock rom with just root. The update script basically checks that everything that should be there is there . If there is something else in there like su it don't matter.
flashing a new rom is the best way to go if you have cwm installed already
I succesfuly flashed ICS and first impressions are very good.
But I think I lost recovery...

flash a CWM recovery via adb , or there is TWRP recovery in DEV section , which is very good .

[Q] Installing a custom rom

Hi,
I was wondering if you had to be rooted to install a custom rom on my phone. Thanks
Rooted no. S-off or unlocked by HTCdev yes.
Once your either one of the above, you need to flash a custom recovery, then you can install roms and root.
my phone was originally on vodafone but today i switched to 3 i was wondering if i flash the 3 ruu to my phone will it come with all the correct settings and 3 boot logo etc? Thanks

[Q] OTA Flash / Factory Image or other Return to Stock

Hi All,
I have read the stickies, trolled through dozens of threads and posts, but I can't seem to get a definitive answer to my problem / question.
Current status:
TWRP 2.2.2.0 installed
Unlocked Bootloader
Custom JB Kernel [JB Unsecured I think??] installed
JB Odexed Custom ROM Installed
Hboot 1.14.0002 on device
My question is this:
I want to go back to stock JB or as close to it as possible. The current JB ROM is supposed to be stock, but is a little buggy, in that the stock dialler does not have smart dial, and some other small annoyances [all credit to the dev though, fantastic job!!]
Anyone willing to help me out?
Oh, and for some reason my adb / fastboot drivers are acting up [device not detected, although was working fine a couple of days ago before I started flashing roms!], so I'll need to fix these first somehow!
Tanks
D
What custom ROM are you on? You sure its a custom, and not the stock rooted odexed JB ROM?
If you are really on a custom, just flash a stock rooted JB ROM from Development. I don't see a benefit in installing an official OTA or RUU.

Urgent help - Is possible to do this?

Since my AT&T ICS 4.04(final update) Atrix 2 won't pass beyond the M logo (have been flashed like ten times), I need someones help.
I can't downgrade to GB because would brick the phone forever or upgrade to a newer version. Or flash a custom ROM because the phone is not rooted and doesn't have any custom recovery tool installed.
So, I was thinking, maybe if I could flash an already rooted system and a custom recovery using RSDLite, could boot into the custom recovery, install a custom ROM and see if I can fix my phone.
Or maybe flash(RSDLite) a backup(or only the files need for this purpose) made by any user of the forum.
Is that possible? Please help.

It would be better to ask all the questions in one thread itself, rather than making new ones each time for a newer question.
RSDLite can't flash files which aren't signed by Motorola, hence no pre-rooted or custom recovery installed ROM can be flashed this way, since they won't have Motorola signatures.
