[Q] Infuse Update - Gingerbread + TouchWiz 4.0? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Any info when/if the infuse will get gingerbread and/or touchwiz 4.0? Really looking forward to some 2.3.

My guess is a year from next month..but if enough people pony up some cheese we will be set...look at the thread down the page..i hope this happens fast..i get the feeling the infuse will be the redhead step child when the sgs2 hits att.

Its a phone with good specs, i don't think that Samsung will disregard a one of their 4G phones.
4.5 inch beast
1.2GHz processor
4G
to good to be left in the dark. they are going to try to squeeze the mos sales out of this phone by keeping it up to date. This phone is basically Samsung Galaxy S device with out the label.
now with that being said, can someone clue me in with the specs on the SGS2

It will definitely get Gingerbread within the next 3-6 months, but not TouchWiz 4.

Why don't you think it will get Touch Wiz 4.0?

because the galaxy s didn't get it either. it was only ported by rom builders. now if you want tw4 there is a flashable .zip in the vibrant section that works on 2.2.1 roms. gingerbread, well maybe by christmas if it doesnt skip to icecream sandwich.

Not international, only US?

Looks like the infuse (SGH-i997) may only be a US phone? Basic google searches didn't reveal anything obvious like I would expect, for example the i9000 (galaxy s).
I know a lot (not all of course...) of the great innovations in terms of lag fix, rom/kernel dev work came from people working on the international i9000. I wonder if this will limit the diversity in kernels, roms...
Mine is on the way anyway

well im not saying you can interchange with a galaxy s. that is not true. but many methods when applied to the infuse sources will have little difference from the galaxy s in implimentaion. so in a way this may develope faster than the sgs2 or the sgsplus or the sgs2mini which all have much more major changes.

I hope so too. Really sucks that they didn't release it w/ 2.3 out of the box. Samsung CAN do it, look at the nexus s. Hopefully only a minor setback and they'll release the update OTA... yeah right

well they need the sgs 2 to look that much better. they fear we are too stupid to know what a dual core chip is. they need this to look good for the money and the sgs2 to look better. samsung did get the first 2.3 update out and the first 2.3 phone out that was not a google dev phone so cut them some slack. they are working hard on there flagship models. this will come later. google says they will work with manufacturers to get all capable handsets updated to 2.3 or 3.1, probably to keep android from getting too fractured. they will put pressure on them for updates and the manufacturers will get less ambitious with changes.
samsung also announced the north american sgs line will get 2.3 but did not indicate a timeline. unfortunately this is not being called a sgs so that statement is not a garentee but i think att has more concerns about updating the infuse than the captivate so if samsung says the captivate gets an update i think att will push for the infuse to get an update beforehand.

Stop trolling the poor guy.
So far you cannot use Sense UI on Infuse.
For the most part, Sense will only work fully if it came with the phone (so an HTC-made phone). Of course some dev. work allowed for sense on some non-HTC phones.
Maybe someday someone will hack Sense onto Infuse, but not soon.
they could be talking about a launcher pro theme. not true sense but yo get the look.
many launchers can be themed like sense and you can find many homescreen widgets that will work, also launcherpro has some good widgets if you buy the paid version.

[Q] What Sprint phone do I get?

I am looking for a new phone I have sprnit and i dont plan on leaving Sprint. I currently have the Evo 4g and i love it I have played around with the evo 3D and i like the power it has but i dont really care for the 3D portion. I am also looknig at the Photon because i like the Tegra processor in it. I see that the Galaxy S2 is coming out but I am not so much of a fan of the Samsung UI. How is battery life?
If I had to get a Sprint phone it would be the Photon. They do have a dual screen Android powered phone (I forgot the name) that I believe is a little bit older, but that one is pretty cool to play with.
The Galaxy SII would be the one to wait for. Even tho Samsung's TouchWiz UI isn't that great, you can always flash a ROM over it that uses a different interface. That's what I did, I have the Samsung Droid Charge that's running a vanilla android interface.
get the photon, great specs, great battery life, development is only just beginning, and has a long way to go I'm sure, a very likely device to get Ice cream sandwich, some nice features. Highly recommend

I Have Samsung Galaxy SII and it is definitely a phone to wait for.
And the ROMs posted on this site make it even better...
Well thanks for all the input I think I might wait for the Galaxy 2 and try it out at a sprint store. I just hope that it really will be released on 9/9 like the rumors say.

Ice Cream Sandwich looks like this??

Someone, probably from Samsung, shows SGSII with ICS in this video: http://youtu.be/SsV0OOmwvS0
From the video we can see Touchwhiz is overlayed on top of ICS, and this to me seems to be a wrong move from Samsung. It looks just the same as gingerbread, only some part of the OS is using ICS features.
Is this what Galaxy Note going to look like after the ICS update? What's your opinion?
It mite... it does not look like gingerbread.. that's touchwiz with ics.
I bet all phones are gona have their own interface with ics on it...

This is old news. First thread posted a few days ago in the SGS2 forum.
It is indeed TW on top of ICS.
Old news/repost = dead thread.
In answer to your question, yes probably. Sammy will probably lay their UI over ICS for all of their official rollouts...why wouldn't they, when they paid teams of dev's good money to program it?

This is not old news. This is first video of Touchwhiz on top of ICS, from Samsung.
And if this is really what going to happen, I'd rather flash an ICS ROM.

Yes, but it posted 3 days ago in another forum!
It's not news...it'll still be old news if you post it in the HTC HD2 forum.
There's also a CM9 build for the SGS2.
Sadly, though everything's in either Alpha or Beta at the moment.
yes on galaxy it will be look like that !!!
butt we got good developers.... example Cyanogen rom ! classic stock

AT&T: No official ICS for Inspire 4G

LG Nitro
Motorola ATRIX 2
Motorola ATRIX 4G
Pantech Burst
Pantech Element
Samsung Captivate Glide
Samsung Galaxy Note
Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9
are the device getting ICS this year.
Sucks that HTC announced ICS for DHD but we don't get ICS from AT&T.
Source :- http://www.androidcentral.com/att-provides-ics-list-nothing-surprise-us
But with the devs we have here, we will have ics for sure.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using xda premium
We all knew it wasnt gonna get it. ATT EOL the Inspire a long time ago. This has always been the case with them. Once the DHD gets it then it can be ported over.
I'm not worried about it. The dev's at this site could run a ics on a toaster...
If your rooted already, you wouldn't get the update anyways right?
An official ics bloated to hell at&t version would suck so bad.
I'm pumped my Atrix will have it too. Overclocked to 1.45, that phone is sooo damn fast.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
You only need to hop over to the Desire HD forum to see that if you are S-OFF and rooted, you don't need AT&T...
After all the problems that the Gingerbread update had, would you want an official ICS update? Not me, no thank you.
OEM updates cost money to the service providers. I wasn't shocked at all that the DHD was getting it and the I4G wasn't.
Follow the link in my sig for an AOSP ICS ROM that makes a great daily driver.
I still don't understand why these kind of threads continue to pop up around these parts...it's been known AT&T won't give the Inspire ICS. It has been known that the Desire will get it. It has or at least should be known that a handful of devs are pumping out ARs of ICS for the Inspire. It's a known fact that there are literally 10 threads about this same topic that ends the same way: The Inspire isn't getting it but its getting it anyway because the Devs are freakin schweeeeet.
old news is old? Only phone that gets supported beyond the 6month mark is the iphone, and that is because it is supported an updated by apple. android phones dont get that luxury. but id rather have my os be open source so that way i can use custom stuff, as we all know ATT fails at life with their mods to the software updates. i didnt get into rooting and modding till i got that gb update from att and made my phone run like sh*t, id never trust them again. lol

HTC is probably going to support the Desire HD for at least 18 months, it was their flagship at some point, so support will continue until it's specs are limited in some way that doesn't allow further upgrades (The Desire's internal storage was way too small to permit GB Sense or ICS Sense to be loaded.)
I laugh at this thread. My inspire got ICS back in January. All that matters. Props to the devs.

Do a little bit of legwork yourself. Read a bit. Threads marked [ROM] Have roms in them to download, the first page of each thread. Please keep questions to proper threads as well.

That's because you have a kernel that's filled with hacks that make things very messy and make bugs insanely hard to deal with.
Ok, I know I'm just someone that just sits back and watches things go by, but even if know that there will be no official ICS for the i4g. No offense to the OP or anyone else, but can this just stop? If you want it, just download and flash. If you want to have an official ICS, change phone.
Off my soapbox and back to lurking....

Even with the bugs ICS, and any other rom around here for that matter, is still miles ahead of anything Att or HTC could come up with. Att needs to leave the software up to the real devs here on XDA.

Exactly... The only difference between those devs and our devs is one or two hardware specs.

You want a real ics experience... flash aospx.... it is the definition of ics.
I would suggest that you do some serious homework before starting useless threads about subjects that have already been closed. Don't want to read, buy a nexus or note. You are throwing your wounded body to the wolves with your lack of initiative. IMO

Pretty much as soon as proper camera support comes out I'm sold on one of the ICS roms out there. And even then its just video camera that they dont have working right, still camera has come a long way.
Been using RCMix 4.0 since November when capy stopped developing it, and it's truly a masterpiece. I'd never even consider using something AT&T put together over our devs. There are some true artists out there.
