Does anyone else's G2x randomly drop bars from full to none then back to full then completely lose service then get it right back. Very annoying and it doesn't seem to matter which ROM I use it does it on all of them. Anyone else having this issue? Thanks.
I have the same issue... just loose signal and it comes back and alll...
Mine is doing the exact samething in 4 g but with Full bars.. never happened on my hd2 but if I put it in 2g it stays connected though.
Wonder if T-Mo/LG is working on a radio update to go alongside the official GB release

After i did the update to 1.42 for rc33 my internet while browseing cuts out after every two web pages. Its really odd it will load a page on 3g then go to edge then no network that back to 3g. it also will do it in the market as well load two screens then say no data connection aval. Now i know theres not a tower down be cause i work for tmobile, and i have my SE tm506 which gets perfect 3g where i live. is anyone else having this problem
I think I'm experiencing the same thing you are.
I've had a similar problem ever since RC33 1.41. It doesn't seem to be triggered by browsing though. I've noticed that 3G seems alot less consistent than it was on the old radio. I haven't tried flashing back to the old radio.
I ride the train and I used to only have 1 or 2 dead spots and now it seems like my dead spots have increased. Also, I used to always have 3G in my house now it seems I fall to edge and then back again in a few minutes when i try to use data and the phone has been asleep.
For me, I never truly noticed until about a week or two after flashing. I had the Fade to Blue theme on the phone, and I couldn't get any data what so ever. This happened right when I got on a train, and i tried to fix it for an hour and a half. I reflashed the theme, which was still update.zip on my SD card, I did 2G networks only and rebooted the phone several times. When I got home I reflashed JF RC33 1.41 just to take the theme out of the equation and it jumped right back on to 3G. However, ever since I've been paying more attention to it, and it just seems very inconsistent. I used to be able to use the Last.fm app for streaming music and only have 1 or 2 dropoffs throughout a 40 min train ride. Now it's unusable.
The timing for this all this kind of matches up to that 3G outage that happened a few weeks ago, so I'm not sure if it's the radio update, RC33 or a phone hardware problem.
On a side note, when i first got the phone, all the way up to the radio update, i had a problem where I had a 3G icon, but I woudn't have a data connection for certain spots. I'd have the 3G up arrow, but no down arrow. This problem is gone, but I can't remember for sure if this old problem took place in the same locations as the new problem.
I've also rarely experienced another issue since the update, which is where the 3G up and down arrows flash back and forth very very quickly, like a strobe effect and data does not work. This has only happened to me maybe twice so far though, and it lasted for only a minute or two.
I'm just tossing all of my experience in to see if this is all normal or if something isn't quite right with my phone.
This has been happening a lot lately. Sometimes I'll look down at my phone and the signal bars will completely drop for a second, and then go back to normal. I am in an area with full-coverage. This happens anywhere I go in Connecticut.
I am rooted, running Das Bamf Remix, the Adrenalyne Kernel 4.4.3, and Jcase's radio combination #2.
Any other settings I should check to diagnose the problem?
This is becoming an issue because people are telling me my phone "goes straight to voicemail" at times. Any help appreciated.
I see this happen when the phone switches between 1x, 3G, and 4G, but haven't noticed it any other times.
Did it happen when you were stock?

No, it was never a problem back then
I seem to be having the problem as well now, again. Its pretty annoying.
Could it have anything to do with underclocking and/or using SetCPU profiles?
EDIT: I haven't noticed it happening since I disabled profiles in SetCPU..
First and final bump. Contrary to my last post, it's still happening.
Anyone else see this phenomenon?
Yes I do all the time. I also notice that sometimes data will stop and then 4g restarts and I'm back to normal. Doesn't matter which kernel.

I have been experiencing problems with this too. My data connection has been on and off today. I'm totally stock right now btw since I just got a replacement.
This happens to me quite a bit. I rooted yesterday but am still stock and it happened before and after root.
I see this happening most when my phone's been sleeping for awhile and I turn on the screen. It'll have 0 service bars the first second the screen is on but then goes right back to where it's supposed to be a second after. Hasn't affected my syncs or push mail.
I came in here just to look if someone had a similar problem
I have been noticing this too, happens when I get home on the outskirt of 4g, but solid 3g. I only show the bars but says I have no signal. usually a reboot fixes it but it is annoying
running bamf stripped 1.7, never had my phone stock long enough to know if it happened then
I don't live in 4g area (thanks raleigh) and I have had this issue since I got the phone launch day
Just wanted to add that the problem consistently happens when I wake the screen. I can see the bars QUICKLY go from full to 0 (on wake). Then after I unlock and wait a second the bars come back.
I've just noticed it today, I thought it had something to do with the new radio. I've had the TB since launch day but just noticed it now...
I am currently running Ninja-0706, radio 26.06.06.30_M.
Intermittantly, my phone will drop out of H and start cycling through all the connections, edge, gsm, 3G etc. After cycling through, it will go to no connection at all where you see "no service" on the screen. And it will stay like that for several minutes, no matter where I am standing in my apartment, or even if i walk outside. Then all of a sudden, it will pick up H, full bars and it will stay like that.
So far, this issue has only happened a couple of times, within the past couple of weeks, and at my apartment. I have full wiped and flashed different roms, and reflashed the radio after the first time this happened, so this issue cannot be blamed on current said rom. This has led me to suspect that maybe there is an issue with the tower in my area. Twice I have called AT&T now about this issue. Both times they claim there have been no outages or issues with the towers in my area. They also claim that the closest tower to me is about 1 mile away, so there shouldn't be issues as such with a tower so close. I don't know anyone in my complex who is on AT&T to see if they are experiencing the same issue. So AT&T seems to think there might be an issue with the phone and i might need to do a warranty exchange. Any ideas before I flash back to stock and exchange it out?
While mine doesn't go that far, it'll cycle between H and 3G for no apparent reason.
Mine does weird **** sometimes, too, on Tue 04_11_M2 radio.
Just today I was sitting around browsing via WiFi, and bam, no signal. Most if the time it'll kick back in after a sec or two, but it stays like that until I intervene by toggling airplane mode, then, it'll be back to 3-4 bars or whatever.
Second time its happened over the last month, so no biggy.
In my house I get lots of signal variations overall, which I guess should be expected.
Well, my phone has done it twice since OP. I just flashed back to stock and downgraded to s-on. I'm going to see about an insurance claim.
Update: Just got off the phone with AT&T. They said that this issue would need to be handled by the warranty dept. So got back on the phone with tech support and they suggested that I go into an AT&T store and have the sim card replaced before they replace the phone, as the sim card itself might be causing this issue. It seems plausible because the sim card is needed for a connection to the network.
Almost every rom I flash ends up having the same problem: I randomly lose signal. Not the crossed out icon, but rather just no bars. This happens while sitting still and there does not seem to be any pattern to it. Some roms it would happen overnight, others it happens during the day. Some roms I can toggle airplane mode on and off to fix it, while others I need to reboot. I always end up back on stock roms because the issue renders all custom roms unusable. Does anyone know what I can do?

Have you tried going stock and see if the issue arise?
Did you try to go 2G only and see if your signal holds?
It could be a bad 3G signal and your phone is dropping in/out to boost your signal. you could be between two towers and your phone jumps from one to another because of low signal. Could be a bad antenna if the problem persist under stock and 2G only. There are alot of things that can cause this issue and the phone itself can be the source. You have to factor out every possibility to narrow it down.

I'm switching to 2g only and we'll see if it holds. I'll know in a few hours.
I would be surprised if it has to do with towers, it isn't something that happens exclusively in low signal areas.
At work I have full HSUPA+ signal and it still happens, at home I barely get 3g signal and it happens there.
It happens at my girlfriend's house too and there is moderate to high HSUPA+ signal.
The problem DOES NOT persist with stock roms.
DOES NOT lose signal when data is disabled
******************UPDATE***************
even when locked to 2g only, it still loses signal.
Seems to be a hardware issue. I had the same problem on my last phone (a LG-VU) and I red-necked it and stuck a small piece of wire in the phone's antenna. It worked surprisingly and I had no problems with it for the remainer of my contract. But before going to those extremes, I would flash back to stock gingerbread, and try several different ROMs and Modems.

HAve you tried falshing different modems???????
You might have a bad sim card. My phone was doing that last summer, and then one day I couldn't get a signal at all. Rebooting would fix it but only momentarily. I hit up an AT&T store on my lunch the next day and got my sim card swapped and lo and behold, no more problems. LOL I remember I was trying to hide my Cognition boot screen from the tech as my phone was still under warrenty at the time.
i recently updated to 4.0.4 thinking (hoping) this would fix the problem but it has happened twice since... doesn't feel like it is happening as often but i can't sit there and stare at the bars all day either... my preferred network mode is always on cdma... NOT lte/cdma even though i frequently travel to 4g area...
more info:
in our house (non 4g area) my phone sitting next to my gfs rezound she will have 3 bars i will have zero to one but can make clear calls with no problems...
also, is there a program that monitors when we lose data signal so when i go into vzn i can show them the problem... the chances of going in there and showing them grey bars would be slim since it's random
i need some clarification... i see people talk about radio updates and low signal strength... was 4.0.4 supposed to fix this problem or is this a hardware problem and i need to exchange my phone...
there is some talk about bad batches... phones put together in china or korea... has anyone actually clarified this... my phone was manufactured in korea
Grey signar bar indicates that you dont have a connection to Google's servers.
Ok. Why does it go in and out? Is it typical? Is it a nexus problem?
Pretty sure when my phone goes out my gfs phone is fine.
Way to be informative.

I'm fairly sure it isn't constricted to the GNex as I have an HD2 on CM9 with the same 'issue'. However, I've always thought it's in some way related to background data. When this is disabled, the bar is grey, and when it's enabled it's cyan.
So, again, to clarify... Everyone with a gnex is supposed to have this problem and the 4.0.4 isnt going to fix it?
someone mentioned replacing sim card... has anyone else replaced their sim card to fix this problem
