[Q] Music Skips - G Tablet General

I've read of other people having the same problem on different devices, particularly phones?
Has anyone experienced music skipping on their Gtab? I'm running Vegan Gingerbread and it happens with Winamp and the default music player. It happened with a previous version of Vegan and I thought updating to Gingerbread might help, but it didn't.
It's really annoying to the point where I can't listen to music on it.
Maybe moving my music off the external sd card to internal memory might solve it?
Any suggested media/music players?
All my music files are mp3's and most are 192kbps.

So I installed TnTLite and don't seem to be having the problem anymore.
TnT also seems to be working better overall...

install the latest kernel from myself, and that should help to alleviate the issue for you.

Nice. It has started doing it again even running tntLite.
I have a previus version of yours installed now. With that said, how do I go about installing your latest?
Do I uninstall your previous or just install your latest (.zip ?) from sd card?
Annnnd, could you point me to your latest?
Annnnnnnd, pershoot, your awesome. Thanks for the reply and the fantastic work.

flash the .zip from sdcard.
froyo with no _gb in filename.
gingerbread is with _gb in filename.
use the filename without a 'newbl' in it.
go to droidbasement.com/db-blog and you'll find it.

not if you are going to continue to run TNT lite or Vegan ginger
New bootloader is the kernal for the roms that run with the 1.2 bootloader...TNT lite, and all Vegan (named) roms are on the 1.1 bootloader, as is CM7

I dl'd this, put on sd card, tried loading it through ROM Mgr... didn't work. Then I tried loading it through Astro Folder and I get "Error Directory._Flash_v10.1.92.8.apk.zip could not be loaded"
Then I removed the current version of Flash and tried again... still didn't work (so now I'm without Flash all together).
I am running SkyRaider Vanila 2.5... any suggestions?

It works fine and it's not a .zip
Just tested and audio/video lags much worse than previous
This doesn't work with Hulu either.
OP:
What did you test this apk on to determine that it was fully functional?
I'm the poster from the N1 thread...and another thread in this forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756531) too *rolleyes* that put the APK up. It's a rip from an N1 of the newest version from their market. I had no trouble installing it over the previous version of flash on my phone.
That being said, I'm not running any type of custom rom, just the 8/1 leak...you guys are on your own for the other stuff.
It works! Hulu won't work because they didn't sign any contracts that allow them to broadcast through Android Mobile Device- needs hacks for that...
but Flash 10.1 Final does run alot smoother than beta!

Help Requested: ROM/Kernel/Theme for XT720

I have been spending many hours, days, and weeks trying to learn as much as possible about modding my android....but I am still a little lost.
Details:
Motorola Motoroi XT720 (I am in Korea)
S/W version: STSKT_N_79.33.50R
Android Version: 2.2.1 (Just upgraded the other day from Motorola's website)
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-omap1
Also, I am rooted.
I am not sure if I am unable to mod mine to the extent that others can (due to mine being the Korean version), or if it just the fact that I am still learning and not completely "Android Savy" yet. But if I could get some assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.
I'd hate to say it, cause I can be pretty smart, but if it could be be broken down "Barney Style" for me, that would be great.
I would like to change up the phone to have a much more powerful machine. Without lag, runs faster/smoother (overclock), change the appearance (black status bar, etc), and pretty much anything else possible.
I see some ROMs that say they are for "Dexter's 2.2", etc...would those work for me even though I have the "legit" 2.2 from Motorola?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!
One problem you will encounter is that the Motoroi has a much smaller system partition than what we use on Dexter-derived XT720 ROMs. So I don't think you will be able to copy on Dexter's ROM (or the modified Dexter ROMs). That said, I don't think you need it:
If you haven't already you should see if you can get Open Recovery or Androidiani Recovery (better) installed so that you can backup and restore when things don't work.
For overclocking, try Milestone Overclock from the market. I think it was updated recently to support the Motoroi kernel, but I could be wrong. If it doesn't work, you just need to make an init.d script to load the kernel module with the correct offsets (I can give more details if needed).
For theming, see if Metamorph (in market) works. There's a gingerbread theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955698 that you can try to see if the morphs we're using are compatible.
Other things to try are old school app2sd if you have low internal memory (Motoroi is partitioned for more internal memory than the Dexter ROMs).

I'm not sure Root Manager can help you if you get stuck in a bootloop. The recoveries will let you save bit-perfect images of the phone that can be restored (nandroid).

Ok, you can create boot scripts, but this could be pretty involved and take a lot of time. I don't think Motorola's stock ROMs run /system/etc/init.d directory scripts so it would involve creating a boot hijack. The easiest thing may be to file a bug report so that Milestone Overclock can be updated for the Motoroi 2.2 kernel. This would be the best solution. Run:
cat /proc/kallsyms > /sdcard/kallsyms.txt
and post the kallsyms.txt and your kernel version (i.e. something like 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1, but from your phone) to:

I thought it might be nice to get a thread going for discussion on the CM7 port for harmony for our gtablet device. There are nightly builds which are starting to incorporate some great things such as video acceleration and the new google release of 2.3.4 could be around the corner. In fact some 2.3.4 code made it into nightly#60.
I am in no way associated with CM7. If someone from CM7 or someone in some way associated with CM7 wants to run this thread or create a similar one please do so.

How-To Guide:
(slightly edited from Wiki http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Viewsonic_G_Tablet:_Full_Update_Guide)
Before you do anything — Make a backup
Don't forget to back up your data. If you have synced the device with a Google account, then the contacts, calendar, Gmail & select other Google-related data will not be lost and will come back after the next sync. However, you should backup anything you want to keep that is not stored on the SD card:
Bookmarks,
Applications; use Titanium Backup or the Astro File Manager, for example,
Any application data not on the SD card.
It would also be a good idea to backup everything stored on the SD card in the rare case the SD card must be formatted to resolve any major problems.
Backup for Root Users is a free application that can assist with backing up your data.
Installing ClockworkMod Recovery
For this guide, it is not necessary to root the Viewsonic G Tablet in order to flash CyanogenMod. You can simply install ClockworkMod Recovery & continue on.
Warning: Installing ClockworkMod Recovery on the Viewsonic G Tablet will void the warranty.
Download the ClockworkMod package: Download
Unzip the ClockworkMod package & copy the recovery folder & the update.zip to the root of the internal memory (NOT in any folders & NOT to the removable SD card).
Power off the Viewsonic G Tablet and reboot holding the Volume Up button and the Power button until the device is in the stock recovery.
While in the stock recovery, use the Volume buttons to navigate to the apply update.zip & press the Home button to select it.
Once the it the update.zip is applied the Viewsonic G Tablet will have ClockworkMod Recovery. Please continue to the next section.

Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the SD card also.
Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.
Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Optional: Install the Google Apps by performing steps 7 - 9 again and choosing the Google Apps update.zip.
Once the installation has finished, select +++++Go Back+++++ to get back to the main menu, and select the Reboot system now option. The Viewsonic G Tablet should now boot into CyanogenMod.

Search for the endless threads on hard bricked and soft bricked tabs from using rom manager on the gtab. And before all you fanbois jump in and tell me you had no problems understand this....there are at least 2 different partitioning setups on the Gtab from the factory. Sometimes you can't even boot after flashing Gingerbread roms without nvflash.

Hardware Decoding?
So I installed AOSP the other day (the one in the Dev forum) because it was claiming hardware acceleration. It loaded up and was super laggy, but also didn't play the same video files that Vegan 5 played. I loaded up CM7 today and found the same thing. It's not nearly as laggy as the AOSP build, but still does not play video. I get volume, but no sound. Am I mistaken is thinking that we in fact have hardware acceleration now?

I think Irs421 is right. Its progress but not complete hardware acceleration until Nvidia releases GB drivers I would guess.

I can't wait either...seriously, I'm downloading it right now. I'm going to try flashing it over CM 7.0.3 stable with just a cache and dalvik wipe. Hopefully that won't be a problem.
UPDATE: After a few initial hiccups (probably due to only doing a cache/dalvik cache wipe instead of a full wipe and having ADW Ex in the /system/app folder instead of the /data/app folder) everything seems to running well. Sound didn't work initially due to the new DSP Manager being installed, but I replaced it with the one I pulled from CM 7.0.3 and now it's working fine. I'll attach the CM 7.0.3 stable DSPManager.apk for anyone who doesn't want to go through the hassle of pulling it from a previous build themselves (uninstall the version that comes with it, move it to /system/app using root explorer, then reboot and sound should work again).
I won't be able to try it out until this afternoon. I think I will just start with a full wipe and rule out any possible issues from kushdesk's rom.
Let me know how its working. Any luck with P vs Z?

Yeah, I'd definitely do a full wipe coming from another ROM. From what I can tell, it seems pretty similar to CM 7.0.3; a few changes in the CM Settings menu and obviously the update to 2.3.4, but other than that I don't really notice any differences. Everything that was working in CM 7.0.3 seems to be working in 7.1 RC1 (other than the DSP Manager, which needed to be replaced with an earlier version to fix the sound). I don't have Plants vs. Zombies installed, so I can't tell you about that. Angry Birds is working fine, though.
Anyone happen to know the process for installing this on 1.2 bootloader? I'm currently running CM7.0.3 from this thread, specifically the one with the Pershoot 1.4ghz Kernel (bootloader 1.2) built in.
Sorry for the noobishness, I am a noob after all, lol.

Haven't searched hard enough, there is no oneclick, no gingerbreak, simply go to dev section look for "nvflash cwm recovery" after you have recovery flashed you can install any rom.
Don't worry dude this phone is actually really easy to hack.
All you need to do is flash the latest Clockworkmod Recovery, and then flash a rom.
Follow the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054492
Flash the latest one 4.0.1.5
That will get you CWM, then all you need to do is flash a rom such as Weapon 2.4 or CM7 nightly and voila! You have root.
BTW, the G2X GB rom is 2.3.3, not 2.3.4.

We don't have 2.3.4. The LG update was 2.3.3 for some reason.

But the OP really needs to be updated... its not the zip in the OP that got it working for me... its this post in the middle of the thread:

Not sure what that means. Could you elaborate on that process or link me to where a can find out how? This download zip folder contains folders:
META-INF
SYSTEM
Sorry to be a bonehead. I have not hacked a phone since my n95 years ago, and I am out of touch.

yes you can install a rom with internal memory only choose internal when you flash the recovery. if you look at the picture on the link i gave you youll see it has external(sdcard) internal(phone memory) where it will let you install a rom from.
good luck

After you install CWM via the link right above this post, you will be able to flash roms and other goodies.
First flash the latest CM7 nightly... but be sure to wipe /data, /cache and /system first:
1) -wipe data/factory reset
2) -mounts and storage
-format /system
Then flash the nightly:
-Install zip from SD card
-choose zip from sd card
(If you don't have an sd card install the "internal" version of CWM and place the nightly on ur internal SD)
Then flash the latest gapps: (same flashing procedure as above)

Lastly flash the zip in the link I provided earlier.
Let me know if u need this in any further detail.

And so you are. Quote from Skype support:
Video calling over Skype is now supported by Android. To make Skype video calls, you will need:
An Android phone running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above.
1Ghz processing power or more (recommended)
Front facing camera.
Chipset with NEON technology support*.
The latest version of Skype for Android (Skype 2.1 for Android and above).

As far as I can tell the g2x Tegra 2 chipset is not NEON compliant, as you probably know. Serious bummer.
On a related note - I was able to get gTalk video working...badly.
