[Q] Newer G2X - Root issues - T-Mobile LG G2x

Maybe someone point me in the right direction? I am having trouble finding a relevant thread (I have searched). I have the newer T-mobile G2x the ships with Gingerbread 2.3.4 installed and I need to root it so I can install a 2.3.4 based ROM that allows for Skype video capabilities. Neither Gingerbreak nor One Click work. Any ideas?

Haven't searched hard enough, there is no oneclick, no gingerbreak, simply go to dev section look for "nvflash cwm recovery" after you have recovery flashed you can install any rom.

Don't worry dude this phone is actually really easy to hack.
All you need to do is flash the latest Clockworkmod Recovery, and then flash a rom.
Follow the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054492
Flash the latest one 4.0.1.5
That will get you CWM, then all you need to do is flash a rom such as Weapon 2.4 or CM7 nightly and voila! You have root.

BTW, the G2X GB rom is 2.3.3, not 2.3.4.

True. ^
And mind clueing us in on how to use skype video calling?

That's what I meant. I wrote this post very quickly before work. My device (currently) has 2.3.3, it shipped this way.

Lame.
I was under the impression (wish I could link) that Skype video was working on the G2x with Android 2.3.4. Are you saying that you all have 2.3.4 (or some variant of it) and Skype video does NOT work?
What about gTalk video with the front camera?

We don't have 2.3.4. The LG update was 2.3.3 for some reason.

That's why I want to root - to flash 2.3.4. If I can't do Skype video I might not bother.

Cyanogen is 2.3.5 if that helps.

But the OP really needs to be updated... its not the zip in the OP that got it working for me... its this post in the middle of the thread:

yes you can install a rom with internal memory only choose internal when you flash the recovery. if you look at the picture on the link i gave you youll see it has external(sdcard) internal(phone memory) where it will let you install a rom from.
good luck

After you install CWM via the link right above this post, you will be able to flash roms and other goodies.
First flash the latest CM7 nightly... but be sure to wipe /data, /cache and /system first:
1) -wipe data/factory reset
2) -mounts and storage
-format /system
Then flash the nightly:
-Install zip from SD card
-choose zip from sd card
(If you don't have an sd card install the "internal" version of CWM and place the nightly on ur internal SD)
Then flash the latest gapps: (same flashing procedure as above)
http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip
Lastly flash the zip in the link I provided earlier.
Let me know if u need this in any further detail.

And so you are. Quote from Skype support:
Video calling over Skype is now supported by Android. To make Skype video calls, you will need:
An Android phone running Android 2.2 (Froyo) or above.
1Ghz processing power or more (recommended)
Front facing camera.
Chipset with NEON technology support*.
The latest version of Skype for Android (Skype 2.1 for Android and above).

As far as I can tell the g2x Tegra 2 chipset is not NEON compliant, as you probably know. Serious bummer.
On a related note - I was able to get gTalk video working...badly.

Since "official" nightlys have not been compiling for the g-tablet, I have been compoiling them myself on my personal computer. I'll compile the source every so often and upload it here https://www.dropbox.com/s/w3vhon1u5a2orsk/smb_a1002/kang?v=l. The time stamp in the file name (MMDDYYYY-HHMM) is the time that the repo sync was done.
In the meantime I'm setting up an old computer that I have as a buildbot to automatically compile every night for us. I'll let you guys know when I have it up and running.

I thought it might be nice to get a thread going for discussion on the CM7 port for harmony for our gtablet device. There are nightly builds which are starting to incorporate some great things such as video acceleration and the new google release of 2.3.4 could be around the corner. In fact some 2.3.4 code made it into nightly#60.
I am in no way associated with CM7. If someone from CM7 or someone in some way associated with CM7 wants to run this thread or create a similar one please do so.

How-To Guide:
(slightly edited from Wiki http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Viewsonic_G_Tablet:_Full_Update_Guide)
Before you do anything — Make a backup
Don't forget to back up your data. If you have synced the device with a Google account, then the contacts, calendar, Gmail & select other Google-related data will not be lost and will come back after the next sync. However, you should backup anything you want to keep that is not stored on the SD card:
Bookmarks,
Applications; use Titanium Backup or the Astro File Manager, for example,
Any application data not on the SD card.
It would also be a good idea to backup everything stored on the SD card in the rare case the SD card must be formatted to resolve any major problems.
Backup for Root Users is a free application that can assist with backing up your data.
Installing ClockworkMod Recovery
For this guide, it is not necessary to root the Viewsonic G Tablet in order to flash CyanogenMod. You can simply install ClockworkMod Recovery & continue on.
Warning: Installing ClockworkMod Recovery on the Viewsonic G Tablet will void the warranty.
Download the ClockworkMod package: Download
Unzip the ClockworkMod package & copy the recovery folder & the update.zip to the root of the internal memory (NOT in any folders & NOT to the removable SD card).
Power off the Viewsonic G Tablet and reboot holding the Volume Up button and the Power button until the device is in the stock recovery.
While in the stock recovery, use the Volume buttons to navigate to the apply update.zip & press the Home button to select it.
Once the it the update.zip is applied the Viewsonic G Tablet will have ClockworkMod Recovery. Please continue to the next section.

Place the CyanogenMod update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Optional: Place the Google Apps .zip on the root of the SD card also.
Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Select Install zip from sdcard.
Select Choose zip from sdcard.
Select the CyanogenMod update.zip.
Optional: Install the Google Apps by performing steps 7 - 9 again and choosing the Google Apps update.zip.
Once the installation has finished, select +++++Go Back+++++ to get back to the main menu, and select the Reboot system now option. The Viewsonic G Tablet should now boot into CyanogenMod.

Search for the endless threads on hard bricked and soft bricked tabs from using rom manager on the gtab. And before all you fanbois jump in and tell me you had no problems understand this....there are at least 2 different partitioning setups on the Gtab from the factory. Sometimes you can't even boot after flashing Gingerbread roms without nvflash.

Hardware Decoding?
So I installed AOSP the other day (the one in the Dev forum) because it was claiming hardware acceleration. It loaded up and was super laggy, but also didn't play the same video files that Vegan 5 played. I loaded up CM7 today and found the same thing. It's not nearly as laggy as the AOSP build, but still does not play video. I get volume, but no sound. Am I mistaken is thinking that we in fact have hardware acceleration now?

I've been using RockPlayer and havent had any issues. Most notably for me though was YouTube HD videos now play with no lag.
I think Irs421 is right. Its progress but not complete hardware acceleration until Nvidia releases GB drivers I would guess.
I figured as much. Progress, even slow progress, is good. I'm liking CM7 so far any how.

EDIT: IF you have at least 6.1.5 (559[or higher]) showing on the Infotmic screen when booting you should be able to 1) download the .img file at the link above, 2) burn the .img file to an sd card using win32diskimager (or winhex), and 3) insert the sd card into slot between 2 usb ports while booting to update to 2.2 v2.1.

I installed #3656 first and skipped the UO file when installing this and everything worked great. I installed the newest UO 0.6.1.5 () too and root seems to work after that too.
What I really like with this release is that swedish language is included (was missing in all updates after 1623) and ofcourse that it's Froyo!
To get Titanium Backup to work you will have to copy your old TitaniumBackup folder from the SD card to the new created when you installed TitaniumBackup, after that TitaniumBackup will find all your backuped apps.
It seems like both Flytouch2 and Flytouch3 are at version #3925, maybe the are compiling new versions for both pads at the same time now, so we can count on a new version when Flytouch3 gets one?

Bugs so far.. will update as the forum grows so that we have a reference page at the front.. saves a lot of reading later if this grows too much..
Please report your bugs and we can get people to work out fix's for you..
1: Ndrive does not work in this version
2: Small amount of people experience has Wifi connection/dropout problems - yet to find a fix..
Also no confirmed tests on Ethernet connections as yet - will confirm once we get some feed back - I am in Singapore airport and wasn't able to use the the Ethernet plugin for net.. so will check it out over the next few days as I will be in different Hotels so can test connections on the road
3: No apps2sd --- hope some one smarts finds a work around.. it would be killer if we could redirect some of the apps to see the SD1
A note on this...
in 2.2 V1.8 the file structure is sdcard local ram storage.... and ... SD1 - sdcard storage.. and SD2 -
in 2.2 V2.1 file structure is Local ram storage... and SDcard 1 and 2
both are locked in to using the local partitions for program storage and program data storage..
Which is a shame as things like ebooks and heavy graphic programs it would be nice to send the storage to SD1 or 2
This is fixed.. look at Smarkies thread for work around..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074251
4: Synchronization contacts and google calendar - Mixed bag on this one.. some get it some don't...might be a cache thing..
Fix once again provided by Barsuk .. check posts from Capeschae and Barsuk for fix.. they are from posts 121 pg13 - 126 pg 13
5: Paid Market apps - This is because of the China location block from Google more on it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551929&page=3

I installed this official Froyo too. It's very, very fast, more than all the different firmware tested from here!
Some remarks/questions:
- The camera is not working anymore, the preview screen shows green or sometime other colors...
- A lot of apps are pre-installed, meaning that it is impossible to update them (Dolphin Browser, Skype, Facebook etc...)
- Is it possible to install Flash Player on it? Will it work? Does anybody tried?
- Is it possible to overclock the Flytouch2 with this rom? Is the kernel overclockable?
Thanks,

A clean fast Rom forsure..
@veryjo - have you got a version number on this U-boot-nand?
Anyone else confirm it works before I flash it..
@patosoft
I am running Wifi with WPA/WPA2 PSK with Auto i.p.. no problems
been downloading and streaming with it..
@Asiaa -- use IUW to make a bootable SDcard for the 2.2 1_8 version
http://wwe10b_android_2_2_v1_8_u0m_gt2005.rar/
After installed 2.2 v2.1 #3925 I found two bugs
- The camera does not work properly. I fixed the camera by replacing u-boot-nand.bin. Currently I have version 0.6.1.2 (587)
- Failure to sync contacts and calendar.
Market and Google Maps in this version work properly.

perhaps you have memories of the fw 2852. this fw had camera-problem too
not able to root
This verision is awesome, having problems rooting it, have tried z4root and universal android root also, anyone have a solution for this. also having problems with market, not showing alot of apps, mostly Chinese and no google navigation
I used UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5. The first time did not work the second time worked.
Hello,
Thank you for answering me. It is true that by dhcp works perfectly, but prefer to solve the problem and leave it in static. Anyway with this solution, I better to work with the epad and already ire sought a way to fix it.
A greeting and thank you
After trying a few flash websites, I noticed that Flash Player is ON BOARD in this Froyo ROM!
But colors are something between colored and black&white...and crash in fullscreen mode.
The colors issue has been fixed on the new Flytouch (512Mb RAM) - the following quotation from Androidtablets.net explains how to proceed:
Flash Player issues RESOLVED - new flash player .apk
I have tested this on my ft2v2 with TCH rom 0419, and it mostly worked! Flash now played with correct colours and almost no lag once buffered. It did however crash when I attempted to go full screen, so not perfect yet. Opera mini and Maxthon Browser use the youtube app for youtube website if you have it installed. This works excelently. Flash worked well on other flash websites, I tried an emag site and it loaded where it would not before.
Here is the new apk: Adobe flash for flytouch3.rar (Thanks koti)
Password: koti
Install:
1) use Root Explorer to rename file \system\app\install-flash-player.apk to .old
2) Reboot Flytouch
3) Install the above .apk
I tried youtube and also some eMag sites.
NOTE: This is now included in Tim's ROMS 3b and 3c.

I tried to find the file \system\app\install-flash-player.apk but it doesn't exist in our 256Mb Flytouch...so I directly installed the new Flash Player from the link above but nothing changed with the Flash videos colors, even after a restart.
Does anyone know how to properly install this new version of Flash Player???!!!
Tuc
I rectified,
Still failing me the wifi. Automatically I hold a more function, but is still cutting. Before I had the firm 3245 and it worked fine. So I'm going to return to this firm.

[Q] video chat??

does anybody know a way i can use my g2x running weapon x 2.6 to video chat with a pc im away from my family and i may loose my net soon and only have my g2x they have yahoo windows live and skype its why i got this phone i dont get why i cant
Skype works on the g2x. The only thing is weapon comes with the LG cam, right? You need to flash the stock GB camera in recovery to get skype to work.
Alternatively, you can switch to cm7, flash the new 8/23 gapps, and chat to pc via gtalk video.
yes but i put the lg 3.0 cam on it i like the features i see it will work and wont dont you need 2.3.4 for gtalk video?

Do you know what CM7 is? Right now its based on 2.3.7
There are two gapps files for it (marked 8/23) that make gtalk video work perfect.
ok yes i tried cm7i liked it but it did not have lg cam 3.0 i really like it more that the stock and im not sure if i had the market on it two gapps files for it (marked 8/23)??? what do you mean im still new to this thank you for helping
Ok I actually made a little mistake with that. The gapps are actually from 8/28.
Also CM7 doesn't come with the market or any google apps, so you have to flash a gapps file along with CM7 to get them.
You're running weapon so I'll assume you have Clockwork Recovery installed through NvFlash, yes?
go to this link: http://goo-inside.me/gapps/
and download the two files:
gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip
gapps-gb-20110828-newtalk-signed.zip
Put those two files and the latest CM7 nightly somewhere on your sdcard, and boot into recovery.
-do a data wipe/factory reset
-go to mounts and storage, wipe system
-go to advanced, wipe dalvik
-flash cm7
-flash 0828-signed.zip
-flash 0828-newtalk-signed.zip
-fix permissions
Done!
If you insist that you want the LG cam 3.0, try oovoo from the market. I can't remember weather it does phone to PC or not, and I think I remember hearing that the other end sees you sideways or something.

[PATCH] Fully Working Skype on Gingerbread.

Hello all,
I've been messing around with the camera's driver library and parameter files and I finally managed to correct the parameter issue that was preventing the modded skype from using the front camera on video calls while using Gingerbread.
Now Skype is fully functional again. Bluetooth headsets also works (A2DP) even Bluetooth microphone works! (Using the official Skype app.)
Confirmed its working by 4 people now :-D.
The modification works in both theos00's V12 version and the official Skype app from the market.
Please don't use droidrx's version since it doesn't work properly and it's outdated.
Just flash it through CWM, uninstall and reinstall skype and you are set.
NOTE:
The patch is really simple and can be done manually. If you have a modified build.prop file and you are an experienced user please edit the file manually by making the changes below(If you have it already, you need to reinstall skype after these modifications):
Code:
ro.product.model=LG-P920
ro.product.brand=lge
ro.product.name=lge_Cosmopolitan
ro.product.device=p920
ro.product.board=omap4sdp
ro.build.product=p920
If for some reason you flashed the build.prop file already and got issues with other programs, then use the recovery file and do the changes manually instead.
Well dont use skype but if it works good job. Glad to see so many people contributing.
...fighting ninjas at night, talkin' about this and that.
Instead of skype, I'm using Tango.

The modification works in both theos00's V12 version and droidrx's version.
I recommend theos00 V12 since it has much more features and it's more up to date.
Don't forget to check the preview surface option if you use droidrx's version. theos00 V12 doesn't need that.
Just flash it through CWM, uninstall and reinstall skype and report back to this thread if it works for you.
EDIT: I updated the zip. Those who downloaded it yesterday and have problems can flash the new zip.
EDIT2: It's confirmed now that also the official Skype app from the market works after this modification

Now the camera don't work properly with Fring. I see my image inverted. Can you do something?: (
Are the files you changed loaded on boot or loaded every time the camera is being used?
I think that a simple app could solve this by letting the user change the files when they use skype and change them back when they are using other apps that wont run correctly with the modified files.
EDIT:
Saw now that it's the build.prop file and the TICameraCameraProperties.xml file which is loaded on boot.
So creating an app that requires root that basically changes back the files is easy, but it would required a reboot of the phone.
EDIT2:
I cant find any changes made in build.prop? Sure you changed anything there? Just found changes in the .xml file. Better leave the build.prop file out else this update will only work for v21a.
Anyway, great work!

Inverted how? Upside-down or mirrored? Mirrored meaning your right side is on the left. If that is the case then it's not a big deal if at least skype works!

The changes both in the xml file and the prop file are minor. In the xml file, the only thing I changed was the default resolution values.
In the prop file I changed some entries like the product and such. This is vital for the recognition of the device by the apps.
I think it might work with just the prop file. The xml file is needed by the modded droidrx and theos00 apps since they need 320x240 in order to work otherwise it's black screen. In the GB firmware the default resolution is 640x480 for the front camera so neither of these apps work.
I will try now with just the prop file changed and I will post back the results.
EDIT: Only droidrx version seems to have problem with the resolution. There is really no need to use his app since it's way outdated. First post updated with more info.
I tried this patch but is not working, all I can see is a simple black screen from both sides

I've the same problem. With fring and skype. I use the king's Rom
Although I tried this with the official 21A and also with acura v5 and echts baxter roms, I see no reason not to work with other roms too. Did you try to uninstall skype and install it again? About fring I don't know. I will give it a try later.
You really need to uninstall skype and install it again. Otherwise it wont work.
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA App
Yep I've reinstall skype and fring. with the first patch I heven't a cam with sype, but a inverted upside down cam with fring. Whith the second patch the videocall programs don't see my frontal camera, also Fring work with the principal camera only.

I don't know about Fring, the thread is about Skype actually. And that is reported that works fine with any GB roms I've tried so far. I don't know if you use froyo but I haven't tried it yet.
So try that: Flash the restore file I have on my first post, then download again the patch file from my first post and flash it again.
Restart the phone and uninstall then install the official skype from the market.
Tell me if both Fring and Skype work normally
I'm sorry but Fring don't work. Skype is ok but I use so much Fring too. Is the only one app that work nice on nokia too for the videocall.
Hi!
Can you explain better how to install the patch please?
By example
Install skype from market
flash the zip
uninstall the skype
install the skype again from market..
I dont know if that is the right way to do it.
Thank

I noticed that sometimes when you start a call, skype will just not show you your own video. It will send your video to others but it won't show it to you as you will just get a black screen. Just drop the call and call again and it should get fixed. This is a skype bug and not Androids/LGs one.

It's not so much of an issue. It's just that LG changed some values on the build.prop file by making the phone not recognisable by skype. But the thing that's great is that for first time in history for the Android system, Skype does actually use the BT mic on a call! That has never happened before
Thanks anyway

[Q] Sensation XE, backup and another Android version

Hi!
I've got the HTC Sensation XE with the stock software (Android 4.0.3 and HTC Sense 3.6) but he's very slow!
So I've tried some taskmanagers and app killers but these doesn't help.
To make my phone faster I've got some questions:
1) Does it help to just root and install something to make it go faster? (so all my apps, files and settings stay)
2) Better to root the phone and install another Android version?
3.1) Cyanogenmod or something else?
3.2) Why?
3.3) And where can I find a tutorial to install this for my phone?
4.1) What are the pros and cons of Cyanogenmod (or another one) vs the default?
4.2) And what are the pros and cons of rooting/installing another Android version in general?
4.3) Is there some noob/beginners article on this?
4.4) Can I still use Google Play?
5.1) If I install another version I've to reset my phone?
5.2) I'd like to stick with my apps, files and settings. Is this possible?
6) If question 5.2 isn't possible, not a very big deal; I can re-install apps, reset settings and backup and restore my files (photos and contacts). But there's only one app I don't know how to backup: Smurf Village (for my girlfriend). She'll kill me if I lose the save game. Does somebody know how I can backup and restore that game?
7) Does a custom Android version auto update? So I don't have to update my phone manual time by time?
If you answer please explain why or just give me a link where I can find a good answer.
I've searched a lot but there's so much information about this! But not specific for the Sensation XE. Again, I'm happy with some good links to!
Kind regards,
Roy
P.S. I'm from the Netherlands, so I prefer a Dutch version!

Wow. Lots of questions! i shall try to help you out
1. Yes and no, it depends what you install. A custom kernel can make it go faster.
2. This depends on your preference of style. If you love htc sense (stock htc look) then stick with a custom sense rom. It will stay on ics. If you like the look of Cyanogenmod then jump up to jellybean 4.1.2
3.again matter of preference.
3.2 Cyanogenmod is a "vanilla" version of android. Its almost pure stock but with there own custom code added to it for tweaks and settings and speed and many other things. Cyanogenmod is the largest custom rom and also one of the longest running. It covers a very wide range of devices and many many custom roms and based on its source code
3.3 check the q&a or any cyanogenmod thread.
4.1 Cyanogenmod is faster, comes prerooted and has a massive amount of custom stuff available. It is what many custom roms are based on and you can get it on most devices these days
Official or not htc sense is arguably prettier than Cyanogenmod but it has a lot of bloatware. Also sense its self is quite resource hungry. But with custom sense roms you will still get a nice fast experience.
4.2 rooting allows you access over the read write functions of the phone. It means you can write to the system partition and as such change almost anything on the phone. Once you have rooted it means any app wanting to have root (superuser permission) will have to ask superuser first. Cons are some carriers don't like it when you root. When changing android version you get the benefits and downfalls of that new update. Like if you upgrade to jellybean you get the advantage of project butter (Google is your friend) but with 4.2.1 we got ****ty Bluetooth drivers. But generally updates are good
4.3 Google and xda are your friend
4.4 of course if you want to with Cyanogenmod roms then flash gapps.
5.1 yes
5.2 apps can be reinstalled and settings redone. But you will have to do it manually pal. They will be wiped when you change rom.
6. You could attempt to use adb to pull the data/data/appname folder. But I would ask around before you do anything as I am not sure.
7. Lots of custom roms do push ota updates now. Just check the roms thread.
Hope this clears things up a bit
tapped out from my sexy sensation XE

You could attempt to use adb to pull the data/data/appname folder. But I would ask around before you do anything as I am not sure.

Answers In a neat format now im at the pc
1) Does it help to just root and install something to make it go faster? (so all my apps, files and settings stay)
royduin said:
Ok, so I've to install a custom kernel like Cyanogenmod?
Click to collapse
Cyanogenmod is not a kernel, cyanogenmod is an open source aosp built version of the android system they have there own kernels though It will be installed when you install the rom. as a rule of thumb never install a sense kernel to a aosp rom and vise versa.
2) Better to root the phone and install another Android version?
royduin said:
Sense looks good, but I prefer performance and stability above styling. I've found this* list, what can you recommend? Jellybean is newer than ics so I think i prefer jellybean.

If you want to jump to performance and jellybean then -->this<-- is the rom for you!
3.1) Cyanogenmod or something else?

Cyanogenmod, but from the devs at xda
3.2) Why?
royduin said:
It sounds like the best choice? But.. This* is where I can download it? But there's only a stable version of 9.1. Is nightly/experimental build of 10 good enough for daily use? I don't wan't any limitations.

I would recommend the rom above as it has all the features of cyanogenmod but with the developers added support as well!
3.3) And where can I find a tutorial to install this for my phone?

This guide is no longer relivant to your device as you undoubtedly have the updated hboot. This is what you need to remove the security from your new hboot once that is done i recommend using this guide to upgrade your firmware. This is to ensure rom compatibility once this is done install this recovery via fastboot. After that Simply follow the install instructions from the first posts of the rom thread i have linked above
4.1) What are the pros and cons of Cyanogenmod (or another one) vs the default?

Yes, for your needs
4.2) And what are the pros and cons of rooting/installing another Android version in general?

I just want a faster phone with no limitations. Searched for project butter and that sounds nice! But I still want to use bluetooth..? With which version is this possible?

Any android rom running jellbean will have Project butter inside Including the rom linked above.

4.4) Can I still use Google Play?
royduin said:
Okay, not really clear for me. Google Play isn't integrated by default? I just have to install a Google Play apk after installing Cyanagenmod or something?
Click to collapse
Yes you can still use google play Gapps stands for Google Apps. What happend was a few years ago cyanogenmod issued there roms with gapps pre-installed and google issued them with a cease and desist order stating that only they, and agreed upon companies could distribute google apps. cyanogenmod stopped for a little bit as they considered their position. Eventually it came about that having gooogle apps as a flashable zip was the answer, as it was not directly distributed with cyanogenmod. from then on all aosp/aokp roms that i am aware of followed suit and started using gapps!
5.1) If I install another version I've to reset my phone?

You may be in luck pal since you are on ics this solution should be applicable to you ^^ i would use the droid explorer application first from your windows pc and see how you get on, before you start the s-off process

yes cyanogenmod does, as does bruces rom i believe. (linked above)
8) I can set the language to Dutch in all custom roms?
allowing the rom has support for the language yes (as far as i know most aosp roms will have support for most languages )
Many, many thanks again! Really!
The most is clear now, but before I start, another question:
Is it possible to make a full backup of everything, so when I don't like Cyanogenmod I can restore that and have everything back again? (including apps, settings, etc. Even my save game in the Smurf Village app?). Just created a full backup trough Droid Explorer, but I don't know if this is possible with that kind of backup.
Read a lot about this in the topics you provided*, but I want to make sure it will go smoothly, I use the right tool and it's possible as I subscribed above.
*in the upgrade firmware guide you provided, in the recovery guide and I found this in the "beginners guide".

Good luck my friend just remember to make a full backup from your recovery after you have removed the security so that if needs be you can go back to stock htc sense
Tapped out from my sexy nexus 7
It isn't going well..
Tried these steps a couple of times: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
But I get this error: "ADB out of date" with the temp_root tool but it looks like it's working, then I've used the ControlBear tool, here I get the same error and after waiting a while: "secondary backup failed", now my device doesn't work proper!
First a message that locations is crashed, and then sense is starting over and over again... and now system ui is crashed.. Can't work with my phone now! Tried to restart but everything keeps crashing...
Please help me!!
Should I restore a backup created trough Droid Explorer (I think it's the same as "adb backup")?
UPDATE
Replaced the adb files with newest ones from sdk and the "out of date" messages are gone! Just have run the "temp_root_remove" tool and now my device works as it has to be.
I'll give it another try now!

But I've got the 4EXT Recovery already (v1.0.0.5 RC5), installed it as specified in the firmware upgrade guide. But if I read further I've to install the rom now, but how? I don't read something about installing this..
I hope you can help me again!
And.. I've made a backup of the "smurf village" app only trough the "adb backup" method, if everything is installed later, can I restore that one so maybe I've got the app and the save game back?

Thanks! Up and running! But... my contacts are gone, they where on my sim card.. When I choose import from simcard no contacts are found and I haven't backup-ed up my contacts specific. Can I go back and get them someway? (I've got a full backup made trough "adb backup" and a backup made trough the recovery)
UPDATE
I had lookout installed, after installing CM it asked to download all previous apps back, so I agreed. Lookout was installing too and has made some backups in the past so I've restored my contacts only and have them all backup again!
I'm curious about the save game for the "smurfs village" app. It's installed automatically, but haven't started it yet. What do you advise, start it before restoring or restore and then start?
UPDATE 2
Sadly lookout haven't backed-up my contacts the right way, so I've got names without phone numbers.. Any ideas how to get them back?
UPDATE 3
Still got no contacts
Meanwhile I've restored the backup for the "smurf village" app and got my save game back!
