Any WP7 users out there Hunters? I am a starting developer and one of my ideas is to create a hunting app, IE: Turkey Calls and when to use them. Something like that.
Ideas? Thoughts?
Hmm, interesting idea (but sorry, I'm not a hunter). BTW, are you sure the WP7 speakerphone is loud enough for this purpose? (I have no idea at all how loud are turkey calls)
Usually they are used to help remind the hunter of how he should sound when he is using the calls, I dont think the speaker on the phone will be loud enough at all.
Like it. We could really use something good with solunar tables also. There isn't a decent tide application out either that I have found.

that's what I was thinking too. As soon as I can learn the language, I will start to develop the app.

Man, this is a good idea! Look at THIS:

Is anybody here able to do something like that for a Windows Mobile PDA?
-sodala
Does anyone know something like that for Windows PDAs?
-sodala
I'd appreciate such as well. Any takers?
Cheers
just pushing it up again
Anyone interested in programming something like this? I'm just to noob to do it myself.
-sodala
Looks like a fun "Hey look at this" but a "This is a horrible and terrible program that I can't use and is useless" thing.
Agreed, the last thing you want is a touch screen solution, and on top of that the fact that it works via wi-fi makes it an instant fail. Bluetooth and/or USB should be the interfaces for battery purposes.
Sorry, I can't agree to that. I think this would be a perfect addition to any smaller notebook not equipped with a numpad by itself (or with that ugly built-in solution using Fn-Keys). And the fact that this software works with wireless tech does not mean that a - totally hypothetical - clone of that software for WM-devices should not work via USB-cable.
It's a matter of qour own decision, after all.
I just wanted to ask if somebody knows a software like that for WM-devices or if somebody would have any interest in programming that. But it seems I have to live without it
-sodala
Guy's I was looking for such a solution and found that -again- I-phone & Android has brought it out.
What the hell is windows doing?
I still hate I-phones, because the rest of the world loves it!!!
A num pad with USB connection would be perfect.
Do we really need to change to I-phone/Android and stick on i-tunes to buy this App and that App for 2-3 USD for the rest of our life?
I'm sure I saw something like this on handango for the ipaq years ago.
What is the point? There's no tactile feedback. That would make it totally useless to me.
Hi guys,
For me it is indifferent to the platform, while performing well the call recording function. I need this feature for my work.
What phone/OS do you recommend?.
Thx
It's not wise to look at only one single aspects of your need to make decision because you may pay too high a price in the other areas. Anyway if you're really really wanting to only look at this requirement alone, then leave out iPhone because it can only record outgoing call (e.g., with Acrobits Softphone) but not incoming calls. Winmo phones are excellent in this area. Not sure about Android.
Edit: I take it back. I was wrong to say that iPhone can't do it. It can be done with an application by the name of "CallRec.me" mentioned here:
http://forum.tipb.com/iphone-develo...itasking-phone-call-recorder.html#post1568474 It records both incoming and outgoing calls. Be aware of the legal framework of such practice though, but that's out of topic issue here. It's suppose to work not just in US but also outside US. I don't know all the details yet, but hopefully that'll give you a headstart in your investigation.
Cheers.
Thank you very much for your answers.
With any WinMo 6.5 device I can record incoming and outgoing calls? Any device recommendation?
I was using VITO audio note back then. Worked quite well for me. I think it will work on any winmo phone in the market today still.

Now I'm using iPhone 3GS. Then, I was using HTC Touch HD.
I have a Palm Centro, and I've been using the app CallRec for years. I believe it was $20, but you can always pirate it if you're cheap. It runs in the background and records every call to a folder on the SD card, named with the phone number, date, etc. Excellent record quality, and it's actually the only reason I haven't upgraded my phone yet. I love having an archive of all my calls, especially when dealing with lying customer-service reps.
I use G1 now...
Does somebody know if the new FroYo firmware will support call recording?
I remember when the nodo rumors were around back in january they were saying the update would have mp3 ringtone support as well but i havent heard anything since january on that note
whats so hard about letting us use mp3s in our library and a app like htcs mp3 trimmer and making our own ringtones on the phone?
last I had read, MS will be opening up the api's later this year so I don't think it will be in the nodo update.
Once the release the api's I'm sure the market will be flooded with ringtone/ ringtone making apps like zedge on android.
Will they?
I can honestly say I don't care. Is cutting a crappily done loop of a lady gaga song really that high on everyone's list??
I can think of 500 things that should take priority over ringtones. Although I do wish there was an option for a straight ring.
My main wish with this isn't for custom ringtones, as my Trophy has the HTC Old Phone ringtone which suits me fine. But i do wish they had included some HTC notification sounds such as Chiff & Guitar 2. WP7 Notification sounds are atrocious!

A lot of the new APIs are supposed to be announced at the MIX conference this year.

so how does that work? as soon as the api's are announced developers can make ringtone apps and such after the apis are announced

thankfully, everyone doesn't have a negative outlook on other people's apps. wether it's a ringtone, a calendar app, a picture post-processing app, or just an alarm clock, folks always improve ideas.
ringtones aren't my thing either, btw.

Announcement is one thing, main issue is when will we finally get to see the update being pushed out after being announced?
If MSFT is clever about it, NoDo could have a bunch of new APIs that will be officially usable with new tools released at MIX

Ring tones are one of the most overrated things ever. I always keep my phone on silent anyway. Not sure why everyone is complaining.

I agree. I use one ringtone throughout my cellphone experience: Old phone, and I don't bother with anything else. But choice is always good.
This is one of many problems I have with some developers/decision makers of OSes and Apps. It is not their job to decide which features use or level of importance. If it was in a previous version then the product should not have been released until it was ready for the next version.
1. I want to hear my phone ring sometimes and us older folks can't hear some sounds as well anymore.
2. Remember the old days when a cell phone rang in a public place and EVERYONE reached for their phone as they all had the same few choices for ringtones.
3. I'm a geek, my communicator (mobile device) makes star trek type beeps and whirls and I Like it that way.
$20.00 "dumb" phone @ WalMart:
========================
- custom ringtones
- custom alert tones
- downloadable or make your own ring tones (with app)
- some even with copy and paste (go figure why would anyone ever need that feature)(How about talking to your "actual customers" next time MS)
- SD card storage and usability
- ability to synch or copy files with a $1.00 cable (not 14.00 plus dollars a month and 20 hoops
- some even with custom interfaces (I guess I missed the memo on the tiles being the universal interface that everyone (but myself) liked better. I guess all them custom inferface app buyers missed that memo as well)
- the list goes on and on.
So which is the dumb phone again?
I really like my WP7 phone and do not want to go backwards, yet leaving out basic features that have been in every product for years, is that really moving forward.
I wonder how many man (and women) hours have been spent trying hacks, workarounds, custom apps, etc... just to give us back such basic features such as a car having a speedometer... like really, does anyone even really go the posted speed limit anymore (someone keep the WP7 developers away from GM please).
</rant>
yes, it is going to be supported with Mango, that is already official.
in the meantime..
if you unlock your phone you can install your own cutom ringtones which im already doing

Well i have a Google Voice tied to my phone, that i use for my work line. I also have my work email tied to my phone. I also use Springpad for daily task and it syncs with my computer. I use Google docs to keep important files at my finger tips. the AD-HOC tethering is nice so i can have wireless access to my catalogs from anywhere on a table or laptop... i use mine more for business then i ever thought about with my blackberry.
stream music to my phone from my computer without having to put any music files on my SD card, tethering, wifi/wifi calling, youtube videos, flash for camera, "4G" speeds, and integrated email. didnt have any of these useful features on my previous sidekick 08 lol
Almost anything you can do with a computer or laptop I can do with my phone except its more convenient cause it fits in my pocket doesn't need to be connected to wifi and takes pictures and video so I think I would prefer my intelligent phone over my laptop anyday but of course the desktop wins cause it can run the games my Xbox360 can and it helps make things for my device lol
I think we're just one level behind where its total convenience. Right now it seems like voice recognition isn't too great outside of text messaging. I'm sure Android has a lot more to bring to the table though.

we'll see a legitimate siri clone very soon, but even so, I regularly use the voice command- "navigate to __" to gps my way around miami. more than anything, on a personal level, my phone has made my life so much easier regarding events. My phone calendar is the only reason I'm ever where I'm supposed to be.
i think most people with smartphones who see no use in them just haven't made the effort to see how they can improve their lives. I'm not saying they are for everyone, but I truly believe they can be. You just need to see how and why.

They're good projectiles....Their slim design is quite aerodynamicky, the MT4G's weight gives it good stopping power. But seriously I use it for email, quick photos, some games, twitt, fb, gplus,etc...

Back on topic, considering that this is my first smartphone, I find it useful, but I'm probably old school compared to many here and I've managed to live this long without a smartphone. I finally got on board not because I care to downsize my computing devices, but because I wanted a GPS-enabled device for navigation for the few times I need it. Also, a QWERTY keyboard in conjunction with Swype is a massive improvement over an alphanumeric keypad for composing texts or simply taking notes. That said, I still prefer using my desktop over my laptop over my phone, and the phone will never be a good interface for me to perform heavy text composition.
To me, what's nice is that the apps I did rarely use on my dumbphone like the calendar and calculator are much more spacious and intuitive to use now to the point where I'm willing to use them more often. It's also nice to have a specialized flashlight app and the ability to easily check my email and the weather. I really like the voice dictation and Swype inputs as well.
Also, yes, it is much harder to distract yourself with a dumbphone if should you find yourself stuck somewhere with someone/something to wait on and nothing to do. Ever since I flashed VU, I've spent more time scrolling the home screens and looking at the animations than anything else. I could easily waste time with this thing even without wireless data or Wi-Fi.

had a very similar conversation with the House Boss shortly after we got our first Android phones, (got snookered with the Samsung Behold2, almost made us go back to regular phones) once we got the MT3G-S we both fell in love with our phones (even though I jumped on the MT4G, needed more power and screen). she loves the keyboard for typing her texts and browsing web, the fact she now has Youtube on the go for watching funny vids and vids of our nieces and nephews, the great calender, games and with Pandora and her SD card no more need for her iPod.
I combine my MT4G and my Acer Iconia A500 Tablet to make my life way easier and much much less cluttered in my 18-wheeler between GPS, calender, notepad/office programs helping me keep everything inline for work and Hulu, Netflix and the games helping entertain me when I'm stuck somewhere and getting bored, I have saved money and was able to shave weight off the crap I carry in the truck allowing more cargo (means more money). Don't really know how I did this for as long as I did before.
Ok. So, I've done a bit of looking around, and it seems I'm looking for something a little strange. I was wondering if anyone would know how to set multiple notification sounds for the same notification; I want my phone to have, say, ten different notification sounds it will play at random, regardless of the notification, the app it came from, or who sent whatever it is my phone has just notified me of. For example, one text might come in, and it plays SOUND1, then another text comes in from the same person and it plays SOUND5. Then a FaceBook notification comes in, and it plays SOUND7.
Again, I'm not asking how to make separate notification sounds for different notifications- eg one for GMail, one for text, and one for FaceBook.
Thank you for looking into this and providing me with your knowledge.
I really don't know if you can do it, but give Tasker a go. It really works for this this type of stuff (and much more). Costs $6 though

Thanks for the idea, but it didn't work. At least now I can automate my phone.
good!
If anyone has any other ideas on how to do it, or even knows how to using Tasker that I have just missed, that would be really appreciated.
I am interested on the exactly the same feature. But it still doesn't exist (this or i don't know how to search properly). It's a shame that i can't create any app or script with my limited programming knowledges. If someone could help us with this, me and OP will be extremely grateful.
