[Q] SNS Recovery Img - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
Im trying to flash a new recovery image, but none seem to be working. Im not sure if you're familiar with the file names, but Ive tried "recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-crespo.zip" and "3101-orange.img"(j_rodd's modification of koush's). I tried to go to the source but it seems koush's site is down right now.
The phone is unlocked, however when I select recovery from the bootloader the phone shows a package unboxing image and then an android next to an exclamation in a triangle. Regular boot is fine.
Thanks in advance.

you're doing this in bootloader, right?
You have to be in bootloader, open cmd on computer and flash through there.
You can find 3.1.0.1 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686

Are you on stock rom? if yes, then no matter how many times you flash the custom recovery(cwm or jrodd), once you reboot your phone and enter recovery, you'll always end up with stock recovery.( the image you are getting android next to triangle is that of the stock recovery)
what you should do is enter bootloader, fastboot flash ur recovery, and from there (without reboot) enter recovery directly. i would recommend you flash a custom rom.

[Q] Help! "no boot or recovery img"

I've been trying to flash a new rom, and I can't. Fastboot pops up every time I try to boot recovery saying "No boot or recovery image"
My phone still boots it's rom normally and can connect to the computer via usb just fine, but I've tried flashing several different CWM recoveries and none of them work, it all just gives this same error. I can't re-flash now, and this rom is not working well. What do I do?

are you spelling the name of the recovery correctly? is the recovery file(.img) in the same folder in your computer as fastboot is?
Search "flash image GUI" I think, here on xda, on the thread download the apk, then install on your phone, then go to rom manager the WEBSITE, find a recovery image that corresponds with your phone then download it. Now go to flash image gui and flash the CWR image you just got like 2 or 3 times just so it sticks now see if it works.
Nevermind, as simms said (didn't read properly). You can use the tab key to autofinish the name of the recovery.
Hi guys, I found the problem, but thank you all for your suggestions. the problem was my fastboot was still locked! (I'm not sure how I got this far without unlocking it, but now it's moot) Anyways, it works now, and all is well. Thanks!

recovery boot issues - red triangle, then reboot

I'm having issues getting recovery to work on a Verizon version xoom. I first flashed CWM version 4.0.0.4. The first time I tried to boot into it, it was stuck on the android with the red triangle for a long time before finally getting into it (coincidentally when I was hitting the volume key, don't know if that's related). Anyway, since then I haven't been able to get into it. It will be suck on the red triangle screen for a minute or two before rebooting into the stock rom (I'm running stock ICS). Since then, I've tried flashing the new TWRP 2.2.2 or whatever version it is and it has no effect. It's still doing the same thing. Any clue what's wrong?
So what I'm reading is suggesting that the android guy I'm seeing is the stock recovery. I'm not sure how that's happening. I'm installing the recovery using fastboot on my PC and being in the bootloader on my xoom. The prompts on both appear to confirm success.
I haven't tried this yet as I'm at work, but I think I've got the issue sorted. The following is what appears to be happening from what I've read.
1. I've still got the custom recovery stalled. When the Android guy pops up, one needs to press volume up to enter the options. Otherwise, it reboots.
2. The recovery flashes are taking because I'm booting back into the rom after a flash. The system's built in recovery protection is re-flashing the original recovery at that point.
3. To make my CWM/TWRP/whatever flash stick, I'll need to power down and then boot directly into the recovery.
I'll post again tonight to say if this works. Hopefully this thread can help out others who have the same issue.
If you don't get that to work fastboot img from link..

Device stuck in bootloop?

Hi guys,
So this is my first post but I've been on XDA for a long time. I've been looking for an answer to this problem, and I haven't been successful in finding a post that regards to my situation...
Ok so I just got my tablet today. I upgraded to JB and then I unlocked it using the asus unlocker. I attempted to install TWRP, but when I use .blob files and attempt to load into recovery it didn't work. Anyway, I looked around and I installed CWM recovery instead.
I installed v5.5.0.4 following this guide:
http://theunlockr.com/2012/05/25/how-to-install-clockworkmod-recovery-on-asus-transformer-tf300t/
Now, I notice it's written back in may of 2012 aka before jelly bean... anyway so I installed this using fast boot, and booted into recovery and it worked. I believe I installed the ICS version of CWM. I tried to install Clean Rom v3.3 and I just get bootloops. I can still boot into fastboot and clockwork mod fine.
I tried to install v6.0.1.4 via this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846554
But once again if I boot into recovery it just does nothing and reboots after a few seconds.
I re-installed v5.5.0.4 and I can wipe data/install everything just as I normally would, and I still have access to Fastboot. Can I get some help on how I can 1 install the correct CWM and 2 install a working rom? I don't think I bricked my device just yet since I can still flash in fastboot etc.
Thanks guys!
You cant't wipe data from bootloader menu, If you do that, you will get unrecoverable brick.
Sorry I believe I mislead you -> I wiped data from within CWM.
Anyway, I used this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757077
I went back to stock and I think i'll stay there for a little while longer, this process made me nervous (I've rooted my thunderbolt, droid DNA, galaxy tab 2 7" and my friends phones) so anyway I believe I installed the wrong CWM and that caused errors trying to install a JB rom on a ICS CWM... If you have any insight let me know...

My suggestion is to flash the latest stock JB blob.
fastboot -i 0x0B05 flash system blob
fastboot -i 0x0B05 reboot
Once you get it sorted then flash the latest twrp for jb.
Now, when I try flashing blobs and I go to boot into RCK (I believe that's the term...) it just reboots the tablet instead of booting into recovery.
Android software is out of my element, if this was some C (somewhat similar to C) or Matlab I would better understand (I'm a senior Mechanical Engineer in college)
Edit:
Ah didn't see your post. I did what you recommended, and actually, while my device said it was on 4.1.1 JB, when I hold pwr/vol down I see a completely different menu now than last time, so I wonder if perhaps my OTA didn't correctly load everything from the firmware update hmm...

The same way you flashed cwm.
Windows? Start - in search type cmd - press enter
In the cmd window cd to the directory with fastboot.
Hook cable between tablet and usb port on computer.
On tablet hold power and volume down till you see the bootloader menu.
Down volume till you are at the usb symbol - then volume up.
This should put you into fastboot mode - use the commands above.
Wait till the first command completes before you give the second command.
[INDEX][04 Feb 2013]TF300T & TG-INDEX of Roms/Dev Guides/Kernels/Recoveries/etc. You will find the stock firmware here as well as most other needs.
You will have to unzip to get the blob which you should place in the directory with fastboot.
Thank you very much.
So after flashing the most resent blob, I successfully installed CWM recovery and successfully flashed a rom. I'm not sure what the issue was before. Thank you for the help! much appreciated.

[Q] HELP! Can't flash ANY recovery or rom! xt1032

Hi, first, thanks for reading. Second, i've already searched de whole google world, and inside all this threads, but....
I CAN'T FLASH ANY RECOVERY! I don't know why!
In fastboot, i put the commands for flashing CWM, TWRP, Philz, and it works with no error. But, when i select the recovery option in my xt1032, it always boot the CUSTOM recovery. What can i do?
And sorry about my english, i´m from argentina.
Thank You!!
Hi. I don't get it. TWRP or CWM or Philz is custom recovery, so if you flash them to your device, of course the stock recovery will be replaced by custom recovery, so when you select Recovery option in Bootloader screen, of course it will bring you to a custom recovery. Yesterday I flashed all kinds of recovery in order to flash ROM (flashable zip file) into my phone but it failed all the time, so I decided to install stock firmware by using mfastboot (and removed custom recovery also).

If you want to flash a custom recovery, you need to have:
- Minimal ABD & Fastboot. Extract it into a folder.
- The recovery's .img file from its website. Its name may be very long, so you should rename it into something shorter, for example "newrecovery.img". Put this file into the same folder that you've just extracted Minimal ADB & Fastboot.
- Boot your phone into Bootloader screen (by first keep holding your Volume Down then press Power button for a short while). Connect the phone to your computer. In your computer, open the folder that contains Minimal ADB & Fastboot and the .img file of the custom recovery aforementioned. Now hold Shift key on your computer's keyboard and right click your mouse on the blank space of the folder. Choose "Open command prompt here''. When you see a black window, type:
fastboot flash recovery newrecovery.img
then Enter. The custom recovery will be installed right away. After that, choose Recovery on your Bootloader screen and the custom recovery will open. Yesterday I read on a website that some ROMs overwrote your custom recovery when your phone rebooted so that might be the reason why you cannot use the custom recovery you've just installed. I don't know how to solve this as I'm just a noob.
However, why do you need to install custom recovery? Does your phone still work properly? What kind of ROM are you using? If your phone doesn't work since the ROM has been messed up, I suggest you do a fresh install as this thread tutors: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219. After restoring your phone to a good state, you may try installing custom recovery again.

Need help with boot loop

I had this droid razr maxx hd a long time ago. I used to be pretty savvy with rooting and whatnot. At one point i rooted the phone enabled native tether and even unlocked the bootloader. however I never flashed a custom recovery. suddenly one day the phone started boot looping. I simply switched phones. now my new phone is broken and i need to get this boot loop fixed. trying to do a recovery simply ends up with it trying to boot again and loop. sometimes it shows the robot with "no command" under it. so thats not possible.
when i select ap fastboot i get device is unlocked status code 3.
So i should be able to flash something to it and get out of this bootloop right? can someone point me to a noob friendly tutorial to try and fix this?
if any more info is needed let me know
Thanks!

Just download the drivers for this device and install them. Then download and install rsd lite and install that. Then download the the stock firmware make sure it is the right one and flash it with rsd lite after that you will have to reroot the device. If you don't know what version of firmware you had just post a pic of your device while in ap fastboot bootloader and I can let you know.

If you had a custom recovery that you could mount while in recovery. Have you tried adb.
