Connectivity loss between H+ -> 3G = annoying. - HTC Inspire 4G

When in a moving vehicle, signal often changes from H+ to 3G, and vice versa, and this brief change results in connectivity loss for a few seconds.
Sometimes this loss of connectivity compounds to a minute or more, because of how often it changes, and I can't do anything with my phone (from simple texting to streaming).
Is there anyway to stop this from happening? I suppose select to use 3G permanently, and no H+?
I read somewhere that H+ and 3G work as "1 spectrum", and you cannot disable one without disabling the other... is this true?

Inspired Ace v1.0.1, latest AT&T ROM (06.06.30) with corresponding RIL (2.0 or w/e).
I don't think it's connectivity issue on my phone, it's just me going through H-supported areas, and the phone trying to connect to it.

My phone has been doing this all day. :\ It's actually stuck in 3G right now. It changes to H+ for a couple of seconds before reverting back to 3G.

[Q] Pinging Motorola Xoom 3G

Hello,
Why is this happening:
I'm using xoom 3g with hsdpa -connection. If I ping my xoom's ip from outside (or another address from the console) to maintain hsdpa -connection, the browser does not work as it should.
Sites do not load completely; the browser 'loading bar' stops in the middle and nothing happens. About only 1 image is loaded from the sites then nothing. But the ping keeps getting responses. I'm a bit confused why this is happening
- Andy
Ever heard of a DOS attack? It's where multiple clients ping a host on the internet so that there's so much traffic going to the host that it can't operate properly. Now, most hosts on the internet have a decent connection meaning it takes a lot to bring them down. You're on a 3G connection... which are flakey at the best of times, nevermind if someone's constantly jamming icmp packets down it.
Of course, I could be wrong, but your symptoms definitely sound like that's what's happening.
Why do you have a constant ping going anyway?
Thnx for your quick response!
The host that I'm pinging from the xoom is google.fi and when I'm pinging xoom, it's from my own server that is not under dos attack. I know that 3G connection can be a poor one but that's not the case imo. At least my ping response times are 20-40ms.
I did a fast testing with the new firefox5 and this effect does not happen with it. I have to do some more fiddling with firefox.
The reason why I'm pinging constantly is to maintain HSDPA -connection and prevent xoom from roaming when I'm actually using the device like browsing the web and using gtalk. The roaming happens way too quickly (xoom drops to 3g from hsdpa)

Does that actually work? I see no reason why it should.
ed. I can't even reproduce what you're seeing. It may be that we're on different carriers, but my device isn't responding to pings from the world while on mobile data.
It's normal for HS*PA to fall back on 3G sometimes when it can't actually maintain a HS*PA connection.

Yeah I thought the whole point of it falling back to 3G was because the wasn't capable of holding an HSPDA connection? Certainly if I'm travelling I get a mixture of 3G and H... and sometimes still GPRS (*shakes fist at Orange*).

Yes it works with my provider anyway.. On the status bar when roaming/doing nothing xoom says that my connection is '3G.' When I start to ping it (or from it) the connection changes to HSDPA; logo changes to 'H' and it prevents it from falling back to 3G. Everything works much faster when the roaming doesn't happen and for some reason even the conn dies sometimes (no internet connection) when it keeps changing it back and worth.
Didn't have too much time to test it with firefox5, but it seems that this doesn't happen with it.. but firefox itselfs crashes a bit too often Maybe this whole "thing" is fixed in honeycomb 3.1.

[Q] Different Roms, Different Radios, Same Problem

Background:
I'm on AT&T, Unlimited Data.
I've had my Inspire 4G for about 4 months and for the most part I have been running Leedroid. Recently, I've been having trouble with not being able to make calls, but able to receive calls and use data. When I try to make a call it drops immediately. As soon as I press Call, it flashes to "Call Ended".
I thought that a clean wipe and flash would solve the problem and I've also made sure that I'm running the correct radio (Suggested radio) and matching RIL.
Neither of these ideas fixed my problem, so I flashed CM 7.1.0-RC1 and again checked the radio firmware and RIL. No dice. I've tried to search around the forums to make sure I wasn't overlooking something obvious, but I haven't found anything.
Also, I do have a good signal when I'm attempting to make a call. It seems to only happen in one part of town and I'm wondering if it's something to do with this part of the network. Sometimes if I cycle the radio on and off using airplane mode it will work long enough to make one call. Sometimes if I go into the Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Operators > and press Select Automatically, It re-registers on the network and all is fine for about 30 minutes.
Side note: My data speeds have dropped from 4000kbps to about 700kbps.
Current info:
Android 2.3.4
Baseband 15.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel 2.6.35.13-cyanogenmod-g87a2eba
If anyone has run into this problem or has a suggestion I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Data can be different at different times at&t is notorious for that. its odd that it only happens in one part if town, that leads me to think that it has to do with towers and signal.
If it was happening all the time, I would think different, but it only happening in one part of town, and it only recently happening, thats signs of tower/ signal issues I would think.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
I feel the same way. I'm going to run an experiment today. Using Open Signal Maps, I'm going to note the tower that I'm connected to when I start having problems. Then, I will drive a distance away until I have connected to another tower and see if that resolves the problem. Otherwise, I'm still stumped.

I was having the same problem, more so with data then calls. I too am running leedroid however I tried his recommended radio and noticed a huuuuuge different in dl speeds. I tried waiting a day but couldn't do it. I flashed the stock radio and ril and everything is back to normal from what I can tell. Try that and see if that helps

Yeah, I've tried that. Didn't work. Thanks though.
Just for grins, you could try a different radio. 26.09.04.11 was never released on the Inspire nor the AT&T network. Keep in mind that Lee is overseas in the UK using another network provider, so I would take his recommended radio with a grain of salt. If I were you, I would try 26.06.06.30 or 26.10.04.03. If you're using a Sense ROM, then use RIL 2.2.0160HM with it. If you're using CM7.1.0-RC1 or a newer nightly, then stick with the default RIL (2.2.0018G) because it's tuned for AOSP ROMs and is known to work very well with all stock Inspire radios.
Regarding your poor data speeds, be sure to reconfigure your custom ROM to use the stock APN settings. No custom ROM on this forum (except for those heavily based on the stock ROM) comes with the true proper stock APN settings that are needed for full speeds in some markets. Link to the APN settings is here.

[Q] Wondering if the Venom ROM will get any of the updates TMO just released

If anyone knows, will the ViperOneS ROM get the updates TMO just released?
http://phandroid.com/2012/09/26/htc-one-s-for-t-mobile-usa-getting-android-4-0-4/
Specifically,
Helps with data connection delay
Helps with signal fluctuations
At random times, data signal will drop and won't reconnect to the network. Only fix is to go into Airplane mode and back.

for the signal fluctuations i solved it with "Disable FastDormancy" got the same problem like you before.
For the data connection delay I don't understand what you mean.

I've done the "Disable Fast Dormancy" and that seems to keep it connected to the network longer, but it'll still randomly disconnect from the network (just less frequently).
Well the "Helps with data connection delay" seems to describe what happens to me when I browse or use an app that requires data.
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-4288
Basically, you can see the data signal bars drop and everything appears to time-out, then it will disconnect from the network. You can either wait a few minutes for it to reconnect, or go into Airplane mode or do a reboot to get it to re-connect.
One thing that I've noticed when going into Airplane mode, is from the Settings menu, the Mobile Network switch is greyed out and the phone takes about 1-2 minutes to put itself in Airplane mode. But when I do have signal, going into Airplane mode is much quicker. Is there a way to view what the phone or radio are doing when it disconnects?
Wich radio are u on?
Maybe updating could fix it
If I helped in anyway please hit thanks

[Q] I727 in Vodafone.de, 3G strong signal but no call in/out no data flow

Hi guys,
I have a i727 skyrocket use in Germany. (unlock phone)
The network provider is Vodafone.de.
The phone works fine if you only use it in 2G network both call and data. (stock rom by using *#2263# or *#*#4636#*#*, CM9 rom by select 2g only, or *#*#4636#*#*)
But when I turn it to 3g network, problem happened. (both in WCDMA only or WCDMA preferred)
It appears like, when you power on/restart the phone, at first you can see 4G (stock) or H+/H/3G (CM9) icon and the data arrows flash. At this period you can make calls or browse website. But after maybe 30 seconds or 1 minute, when 4G or H icon gets stable. Then you can’t make calls out and if you use another phone to call it, the voice tells you the number you called can not be connected. And also the data was stopped; the browse shows network problem/times out or the same kinds of notice.
Then I use “GSM Signal Monitoring”, try to find out some regular patterns. I found when the signal switch from one base station to another, at first the phone functions is ok, and later when the signal is stable, the phone dead, and maybe several minutes after, when the phone switch to another station, the phone function works again, then about 30 seconds later, dead again. But in all this periods the signal is quite good. (around -60~-80 dBm)
At first I think maybe is the problem about RADIO.
So I try to flash many different RADIOs (T989, T989D, I727R, I757M, I9210, I9210T, E120K, E120S both from stock 2.3 or 4.0 and both with or without RIP), but they all didn’t solve the problem.
And also I try different ROMs (stock 2.3, 4.0; I727R 2.3, 4.0; T989 4.0, CM9; CM10), and the combination with the radios above, but still didn’t work.
Then I noticed some threads about the fast dormancy, I have tried to turn the fast dormancy off or on. But still didn’t work.
Also I noticed about different 3G data forms (HSPA+, HSUPA, HSDPA, UTMS), then I used *#301279# on stock rom to fix the 3g data form in only one kind or only use UTMS, but still didn’t work.
And later I found it is not about the data connection, it is only about the 3G network no matter about the data is on or off, when you switched to WCDMA, then, when the signal stable, you can’t make calls out or receive calls in, and even the signal bar seems great from the begin to the end.Another thing is if you making a call at the first “alive” period, then before you hang up the phone, it all works. Also if you use some online radio software keep the data flow, and the phone will not “dead”, only when the phone is idle, and later after sometime, the signal “dead”.
And the SIM card works fine in other phones in 3G network.
I have tried this in my home and office. In the office the signal always switched to different stations, so it looks a little better. But at home, the signal always stays in one or two stations, so it much easier to see when signal stable, the phone dead.
This problem confused me already 1 month, I tried everything I found and everything I can image. But everything didn’t work. At this moment, I only can use it under 2G networks.:crying::crying::crying:
I am sorry about my English; I try to explain these clearly.
Really hope someone can help me.

I did the same as you, tried a lot of rom/kernel/radio combination without any luck.
Im not in US too, and I notice something that when it happens the network type changes from HSPDA to Unknown, but my carrier ID still there.
I Think that is happening maybe because I don't have a LTE signal here and the phone tries to connect to something in that band frequency and it somehow "hear" something in that frequency then lock it up there.
I notice that if i got into the radio menu *#2263* ( depending on the rom u r using) and set it to be just gsm. I will always get calls and data, but in eDGE speed and it sucks... If i set it to WCDMA only it eventually get signal drops. And the last choice is that Auto mode that I think got the LTE enable. I think if we could select the WCDMA preferred/ GSM option of the radio i727ruxfl3 it would solve our problems, but it appears to be an invalid solution.
Ive been looking around to learn how to change the radio code but no lucky yet...

In my case, the network type changes from HSPA+:15-->UTMS:3-->HSPA:11, then stop changing. If you send some internet request immediately after this, the network type will change back to UTMS:3--> HSPA+:15 again. But If you do nothing, after some time, the network fully dead.....Only when the phone switches to anther station, the network type changes again. Because I noticed this, I tried to fixed the network type in HSDPA:9 or UTMS:3, but the network still will die when the signal stable.
In my place, we do have a LTE network, but the frequency here is different from north america. And my problem is only in WCDMA, so I think it is not related with LTE network.
As I said, it works well in 2G network both in GPRS and EDGE; and in 3G, the signal is also strong, nearly full bar.
Maybe my case is a little different from yours.
But in your case, I think you can use *#*#4636#*#*, to lock the signal in WCDMA only or WCDMA preferred, it is the same as you use *#2263#, only the words is a little different.
WCDMA only in *#*#4636#*#* = WCDMA preference in *#2263#
WCDMA preference in *#*#4636#*#* = WCDMA/GSM preference in *#2263#
You can try to test whether your theory is right.

Im using SuperHeavy JB rom and Blaze LF4 radio that is the best combination i got so far. I still get network lockouts but its not as common as other combos. My theory is that the radio connects to some band then it loses the signal and somehow it doesn't detect that the signal is lost.
Cause I was looking at the *#*#4636#*#* and the uplink still sending data, but it doesn't get a response back.

Yes, I am quite agree with your theory.
I noticed the same thing as you mentioned,
When the signal is dead,
you still can see the phone send some request to the network,
but no respond.
So I think it maybe influenced by the fast dormancy.
Maybe the phone and the network have some problem in fast dormancy policy.
Then I use the way which was described in the forum, add some information into the database.
But unluckly, still didn't work.
I will try your combinations to see if something changes.
Thanks a lot.

You can see a H on the bar, and the signal if full.
But when you use "ping" in *#*#4636#*#*, the result is "Fail:IP addr not reachable"

The first is when the signal is satble, have a "H" icon on the bar and the network connection is "stop".
At this moment, you can see good signal, but you can't make any calls, and no data.
The second is just when the phone switched to another base station, have a "H+" icon, at the first short moment, everything works find.
But, several seconds later, the "H+" turns to "H", then, every communication down.

I wipe everything and started a new installation. The rom version is a gingerbread one. I thought what the heck i will do the downgrade, better a working phone with an old OS the a great OS with non working phone.
I tried the Nexusmod 4.3.1 with the radio i727UCLA3. Its been just 4hrs tethering but so far so good. Give it a try.
Another thing is looking down the web i found that more ppl are having this issue, but they are using other devices such as nexus, and they fixed by simple softwares updates, I might not be the same problem but it gave me hope that it could be software related not hardware as I ve started to suspect.

The same I tried, took out SIM card (no install TF card), install clean ROM, restart, let it settle for half an hour, then, insert SIM card.
Unfortunately, still the same.
But I found some thing, when I use my frineds' SIM card which from other network provider (O2, E-plus in Germany), and the phone in their 3g network seems works well.....
So maybe this only about the phone and the vodafone network, maybe some compatible problem. It is really disappointed.
I contacted with vodafone company but no reply yet.
I think maybe the only way I can use this phone properly is to change to another network. T_T

Problem with cellular data connection (Connection freezes, bad reception)

Hello there,
I'm having a bit of a issue with my 3G connection; I'm getting a lot of different issues while using it inside of my house. The main problems I'm having are the following:
My connection keeps freezing; even with 3-4 bars in 3G coverage. It also happens randomly, it can work a while then stop working and then continue to do so. Sometimes I'm even barely able to use the 3G connection. Putting the phone in airplane mode, and then back "usually" solves it, but sometimes it happens every fifth minute so it's really annoying.
The phone keeps changing cell towers to other towers with poor 3G coverage (which pretty much kills my connection), even when it's connected to a 3G network with 3-4 bars it changes after a while to a network with 0-1 bars in coverage.
Sometimes while loading pages or when trying to download files they get corrupt due to the connection; I've got no idea why this is happening.
I've been in touch with my telecom provider before and they've told me that there's no issues with their celltowers in the area; they've even been there to check it and I'm the only one in the area who've reported the issue. I've tried to put the simcard in another phone, but still no luck.
Is there any way to resolve these issues? I've been thinking if there's any way to force the phone to stay on the same celltower, but I've not found anything regarding it as of now. Any ideas?
Bump. Anyone?
