Seems that the motion sensor for Rotation compass etc has stopped working on my Nexus S. I have been flashing the early builds of CM7 and after updating CM7v3 w CM7v4 (hoping to add back rotation) I haven't had it since. I've tried old ROMS/Backups that I know have working rotation, even did a factory reset via Samsung RUU (Root Erased too). Any ideas? I'm pretty much at my wits end with this device.

Hi all, I just noticed that my auto rotate isn't working anymore. I was using a custom rom, but reverted back to stock just to make sure everything would be alright, but it still isn't working on my stock rom. I downloaded "Phone Tester" from the app store, and when I check to see if it's working, it says that my device has no accelerator, compass, light sensor, etc...
What's going on here? It was working fine a couple of days ago.
Edit, when I go to the Phone Tester app, it says that I don't have:
- Accelerometer
- Compass
- Magnetic Field Sensor
- Proximity Sensor
- Light Sensor
- Gyroscope
- Pressure Sensor
- Humidity Sensor

Having your same issue. It worked once when I flashed a new rom but then I rebooted and it stopped working. I went back to stock but that didn't help either.

If you flashed the factory image and it's still not working then it's most likely a hardware issue.
I remember soon after the N5 was launched there was a barometer app that was crashing all of the sensors. Maybe this is still an issue?

I have barometer installed and working since day 1 I bought the phone.. I would assume the OP problem is an isolated issue that somehow crashed all the sensors.
Most possibility is factory hardware defect.. or .. somehow the phone was at affected by strong magnatic/radiation field area that caused those sensors broken.
Having the same issue.
So I figured something out today. I flashed the stock image for 4.4, (not 4.4.2 like i had previously), and everything works perfectly fine! Now if I take the OTA for 4.4.2 it stops working once again. So now I have no idea what to do lol since I know its not necessarily a hardware issue but more of a software issue. Another thing is while on 4.4.2 if I open GPS Status & Toolbox app to check the GPS or sensors the phone soft reboots but the app never opens.
This is definitively a software issue somewhere. Its been working perfectly fine all day on stock 4.4
I will try and see if I can find what's changing or getting updated when you do the update to 4.4.2.
Hi everybody I am a Skyrocket user. Some days ago I flashed stock android 2.3.5 on my phone via Odin, just to check some performance and old apps. A day later I flashed back JellyBean 4.1.2 stock but I noticed this problem. When I flip my phone to landscape, it rotates quickly and smooth like it always did. But when I flip back to portrait, it stucks in landscape for some seconds before rotating. This is a problem it doesn't always do, sometimes it rotates immediately like it should. I turn auto rotation off as I don't always need it but some apps like camera and youtube still autorotate. I thought it might be a problem with calibration but it didn't help. I'm on stock JellyBean, no rooted.
(If it helps: I was rooted after flashing the firmware and removed some system apps but only AT&T apps like code scanner, mog music etc, and I later unrooted the phone. Tried factory reset also re-flashed the firmware again to see if it might help with the problem but it didn't.)

If you tried odin back to stock, and the problem is still there on complete stock then it's probably time for a new phone unfortunately.
a few tips:
1. make sure you check the MD5 to make sure those files downloaded ok and aren't corrupt.
2. make sure you cable is good & you're using a USB port on the back of your PC
3. Ebay phones. even sold as new might not be new even though they look new. Could be just brand new replacement parts and new packaging, etc.
4. Check Vincom's troubleshooting thread! read the stickies! if you haven't, maybe something you overlooked as well.
screen rotation problem solve easily this trick working on all phones.
Use Spirit level pro software to calibrate your phone. sceen rotation problem is horizontal calibration fault, you solve screen rotation problem eaisly to use this software. Download from play store and download from attachment. Try this..

Hi kristikoroveshi is your issue solved if not pm me i faced same issue
My xperia Z5 will not rotate to the correct orientation - it does the exact opposite rotation, 180 degrees off. I have tried a factory reset to no avail. My bootloader is unlocked for what it is worth. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lol - I got that, too, 2 days ago,
you tried rebooting whether that resets the sensor and it works again ?
Rebooting does not fix my problem unfortunately.
give the following app a try:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5UZXN0X1NlbnNvcnMiXQ
Alternative:
disable screen rotation (or set it to stay at the position once the device is rotated), then reboot and re-enable again
Ended up doing a complete firmware reinstall using this tutorial, which is apparently more deep of a wipe than in TWRP. Rotation now works as expected.
I have a Sprint Galaxy S5 and was running CM13 for a while without a hitch. Suddenly my auto rotate stopped working...I tried rebooting and doing a dalvik/cache wipe and SOMETIMES this would make it work again. It'll only work until my screen is off for a few minutes and then it no longer works. Apps that require landscape (like youtube) work just fine when going full screen but upon exiting the app stays in landscape until I quit (at which point the screen goes back to portrait) or if I lock then unlock my screen the app will rotate back to portrait.
So I figured this had to be a software issue. I tried a few other CM Roms with the same result. Then I tried flashing back to stock marshmallow directly from Sprint and NOT installing xposed or any system mods right away and it STILL happens! I can use apps to force the rotation but it doesn't work on its own. Again, sometimes after a reboot or a cache wipe it'll work until I turn off the screen then it's guaranteed not to again.
Can anyone offer some advice? Ive tried factory resets, diff Roms, diff hacks, nothing works.
Thanks in advance!

I'm having this issue, too. Has anyone found a solution?
It's almost certainly a hardware failure and therefore not fixable. My son's GS5's rotation sensor failed.
As a workaround, he installed an app that lets him manually change the screen to portrait or landscape mode.

Mine did that as well, but a wipe of cache and delvik cache worked.. I'm surprised that did not help for long..
I just purchased my Samsung galaxy S7 yesterday and the screen rotation worked fine until today, the screen rotation did not work at all so I started looking for a way to fix it(factory reset, restart, making sure I had auto rotation activated, tried scanning the gyroscope sensor but it failed) without having to make my own post but here we are, what do you think I can do to fix this?
As its a day old I would return the phone to the store. you've done more than I would have if it's that new.
Looks like a hardware issue, since it exists even after a restart.
do check your rotation setting
