[Q] Does SOD happen to Xoom - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I been reading lots about Asus Transformer and it looks like Sleep Of Death happen alots on the Asus HoneyComb.
What about Xoom. anyone experience it ? I cant find it here after doing some searching.
Edit.
What is SOD.
The device fail to wake up after going into sleep. It just freeze after pressing power button.
In some device removing and replacing SD-card fix the issue but it still come back. There is no permanent fix to this unless it is a software issue.
I will put it NO if it happen less than 2 times a week or the frequency did not irritates you enuf.
PS: Not sure why comment below is taking about gay and chicks. I hope they understand what I mean in this thread.

No I'm not into gay porn on my Xoom you sicko!

No I don't want to make out with you!! Ya hear that guys? Unpronounceable name up is there yappin' off about hardcore gay sleeps of doom and this chick wants to make out with me!

Not seen this on my UK/US hybrid Wifi Xoom.

Lol...I must be missing the point behind those comments too! No issues here 3g Vz.

Chlorophyll? More like borophyll....right?

I'm very familiar with SOD - it still happens on my Touch Pro 2 occasionally.
I've NEVER experienced it on the Xoom in the month I've owned it with either stock or Tiamat kernels.
(knock on wood) - my Xoom has never frozen even with the screen on.
Force closes are a fact of life, but this Xoom has never crashed requiring hard reset.

no hard crash here. just apps.

Never seen it myself and i use my Xoom all day long. Though my backlight did die on me less then 3 weeks into it's life, thank god for free warranty repairs

Mine didn't wake up from sleep once. I've heard of it happening on the Xoom but only once or twice, not common at all.

I've got a euro xoom 3g. It sod'ed often.
This happens on stock 3.1 and tiamat 3.2
Im looking for a solution to this as it's very annoying.
This happens regardless of what wifi sleep setting is selected. Even with never disconnect it will still fail to wake after the screen turns off.

It never happen to my xoom.

I've seen plenty of threads where users complain of a SOD problem. Being a GED device does not mean that it is immune from such an issue.
It might not be every device, but apparently its happening often enough.
I've started a thread here with the goal of consolidating all SOD issues, in the hopes of finding a solution.

Why do I feel like its an app/software causing this rather than issue with the xoom itself? Did you wipe properly? Flashing over roms can cause things like this...

it seems vegan 5 firmware issue?
I used never sleep while plugged in, in wifi settings that seems to work
I'm running Vegan and have problems with my device not coming out of sleep mode (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855821&page=5). I started using "regpon wifi keepAlive" from the market and it worked around my problem although it may be at the expense of battery life. This may also solve your problem.
Hope it helps!
Sean
I've also noticed this issue! I'm running stock TnT with Stock Enhancements(though this has been occurring before flashing). I change the settings to "never sleep" or "never sleep when plugged in" and I get the same results. When I bring the thing out of sleep, it always has me disconnected from my Wifi(which can be a headache if you use Pandora or listen to Podcast or want Sports updates when you don't want to waste battery life on the screen). Since it seems some have come across this, it probably is a kernel issue, which surprises me considering there's a recommendation from VIEWSONIC THEMSELVES to set it to never! Why give such unreliable recommendations on your support page of all places?

[Q] Resolve Sleep of Death

I have an MZ 601 (Asia/Europe Xoom 3G)
I've noticed that it SOD's (Sleep of Death) a lot.
This occurs on stock Rom 3.1
I've tried Tiamat, Launchpad Gemini.
None of the Custom Rom's fix this, and I have not yet been able to come up with steps to reproduce this error. At this Time it seems to be occurring randomly. When it does however it is very very annoying.
Sometimes I can fix it by holding the power button, the screen will suddenly turn on and ask me if Im sure that I want to power of the device.
Sometimes on that dialog if I hit cancel, the screen goes dark and it will appear that it is SOD again.
I know there are various reports on the forum of SODs happening and other people claiming that the Xoom is a GED device and hence does not have SOD issues.
But clearly looking at my device it is certainly prone to SOD issues.
What could I do to find the root cause of the problem?
Could it be a hardware issue? Or is it software?
Does anyone here have a definitive answer for this problem?
Install a stock kernel.

right on, And make sure you do not use an alternate launcher...
My Gtabs used to suffer from this a lot, some kernel where fixing the issue, and using only stock launcher where having the same effect...
As I mentioned in my post stock rom which has the stock kernel and stock launcher had SOD issues. Both 3.01 and 3.1.
At this time the launchpad Gemini 1.30 kernel reduces the occurrance of SOD a lot. As it happens a lot less now. But it still occurs.

Try killing off Google maps if it's running.
Shut blue tooth and GPS off if not using them.
These couple of things might help.
One thing to know and remember: The percentage mentioned is not how much of your battery it uses, it's how much of the current battery usage belongs to the app/component.
Running any live wallpapers? Auto brightness? Which power-setting mode? Location services?
i am having the exact same issue, balanced mode, 35% brightness, no gps, bluetooth on etc and having only 3 hours on screen? Unfair because this tablet is perfect other then that
I would assume it's normal, it might use more than it's supposed to but wifi and screen will usually be the worst sinners, depending on what use of course.

Thanks bud. It's definitely not normal. After doing research I come to find out its a problem with Asus code. Wifi should never be anywhere close to being reported by the battery use stats. Hopefully we will see a fix sooner or later

[Q] Random Reboots

I've been dealing with random reboots now for a long time. With all this "stable" talk for JB roms I'm starting to wonder if it is just my phone.
I have ran many roms:
Slim Bean
All paranoid aspects of JB
CM10
sky JB
brickbeatz
Every single one the same. Multiple reboots or SOD's everyday at least 2 or 3. And if I'm using the phone extensively this amount could double maybe even triple. Is this normal? Is this something that other people are experiencing?
I have followed all install instructions including changing recoveries if requested by the install (big fan of TWRP but a lot of roms swear by sk8t's CWM)
I have odin'd back to uclf6 took the ota - formatted internal and external SD and is still happening no matter what rom I use.
When I was on ICS for a little I dig get a notification from time to time saying something to the extent of "battery disconnected" or "battery temp too high" and this is what made me start thinking that maybe this is a phone issue.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? This is my second Skyrocket. First was replaced by warranty because it started just rebooting consistently (may have been a stuck button, but I didn't worry about it).
Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. I do search, and I have tried pretty much everything I have found. Now I'm just frustrated looking for help.
Reboots are not normal with any of the roms you've tried. I've tried a number of roms and haven't experienced any reboots. Sounds like a hardware issue, but others may have different advice.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I've had 2 soft reboots since reinstalling Slim 3.1 (from stock ICS), but that's it. Some ROMs I've tried in the past seemed to have them more often than others, but I haven't been able to nail down exactly why that happens.
Most of them these days are fairly solid and shouldn't be rebooting, especially not as often as you are experiencing. Have you installed a custom kernel? Are you OC/UV? Do you have BBS installed to see if something is preventing deep sleep?

Two soft reboots are not bad, but the amount that I have had is way moer than that. I know that some roms are going to be different than others thats why I tried multiple to see.
I don't have better battery stats installed because battery loss isn't really my issue. I have decent battery life (other than the fact that the SOD's and reboots seem to kill 7-10 percent every time they happen. I also never oc/uv always leave stock..
Would BBS tell me what is causing the reboots?
Thanks for both of your inputs.
You had some high battery temp issues. Is your device still running hot? That would cause a reboot. Liquidzoo, you had hot battery issue, could this be similar to what you where experiencing?

The high battery temp issues came about right after I odin'd, but that was telling me these things in which I'm not sure that CM10 has a pop up for notification on these things.
It doesn't but how does the device feel? Does it feel hot. If it gets too hot the phone will shut itself down and reboot

Yes the device feels abnormally hot all the time
That's most likely why it's rebooting. Now all we have to do is figure out why it's hot. Liquid zoo had similar issues and I think he brought it all the way back to stock to remove some wake locks.
Liquidzoo , any thoughts?

My guess is the temperature is causing the reboots.
Install Better Battery Stats and look at the CPU States. It could very well be that something is preventing deep sleep, which in turn would cause heat and heat would cause shutdown.

I experienced the same thing with my SR. I called up AT&T customer care and told them that this was unacceptable. After a while they sent me a new SGS III. It is most commonly a HW issue, which is what I was experiencing. I explained that to them, and that is what lead them to send me the GS III

Anyone had a random reboot on the latest 4.2.1 update?

Your not the only one gonna try to reinstall the update when its a good time to go through the whole process of setting it back up. Was gonna root it any way so no point to get an exchange if can be fixed. I got a random reboot today whilst going through the painful experience of browsing with this tablet. It took about 5 minutes or more to start up again and when it did, the system UI kept crashing which made the tablet hard to use as the message kept popping up. Thereafter, when i tried to reboot using the power settings, it froze. Very frustrating. I was able to sort it by holding the power button to turn it off and then turning it back on. It seems to work fine for now but it's something that shouldn't be happening. I'm stock and unrooted

Not sure how this happened, maybe corruption caused by play updates running when android updated. Uninstalling the 4 perpetually updating apps and reinstalling seems to have corrected the problem (or it's a lucky coincidence).
I was also having wireless dropouts, not sure how that would be related to updates but seems to have stopped now, possibly the updating process was spinning or using some other resource. I definitely recommend disabling auto updates and seeing if that helps.

I don't think that's causing problems for me as I already disabled it. But for few days, I have not been experiencing random reboot which is good but I don't know why.
