My G TAB is currently running OS 2.2 Is it possible to grade via the internet to a newer OS version 2.3, 3.0, or 3.1 Honeycomb? If so, where would I find the link to access the OS upgrades?
Thank you for the feedback.
Search, read and repeat. Your in for a good time.

Hey there... just wanna ask you geeks here how hard is to port Android 2.2 to a 2.1 Device?!
i've just ordered the new aPad or gPad (G10) today with TeleChip and Android 2.1 onto...
also have the "old" 1.5 aPad with the RockChip, but no 3D acceleration and with no official support für 2.x !!
But theres already a quit big custom rom scene there...
but i think my question is better repealed here!
how hard is it to port 2.2 ??
what does i ned ?! Source of the 2.1 ?!
thx for any Help!
You can't port 2.2 to 2.1, you port it to the device

don't needs to be device specific... a generall statemate is allready more than i have now!
I think the point that is trying to be made is that you have a device. It happened to have come with 2.1 on it. It's not really a 2.1 device. It's just a device with 2.1 on it. You just need a kernel and device drivers that are compatible with 2.2 and your device. That's very much a summary though.
If I had to guess, you should be able to get most things working under 2.2 with the drivers from 2.1. However, I only have 1 device (a Droid Eris), so I have no experience with the devices that you mention.

i'm awar of that the device is "not a 2.1" device only... and it could be possible to get an official ROM in future.. but i wanna try to do it earlyer on myself!
so that is the point...
i saw this from HD2 Android Development...
there where firstly only 2.1 available..
but shortly after that there was a 2.2 Port too!
i pretty guess that they didn't have to rewrite the hole modules (drivers) the just edited somethin in the Nexus/Desire 2.2 File so to match the HD2
thx

Understood.
It's quite possible, I'm sure. There has not been an official 2.2 update for the Eris (and won't be), but there are several CM6 (2.2) ROMs out for it. The same for the Hero and probably several others.
I have a partially working AOSP (non-CM) 2.2 ROM, but have yet to get the audio to work. (I really like to hear the phone ring, so it's not quite usable yet.)
ok sounds good so far...
now the question is, whats the general process of gooing such a port on?
to get the system dump is not the problem... that should be done easily...
Are you talking about below device ?

I also purchased this device months back, and interest looking for upgrade to Andriod 2.2 Froyo.
Also recently, I purchased below device as well, just because my 7" apad become much of game playing for my kids at home, so need to find myself a better working apad.
Utopia Apad iMX515 8 inch Android 2.2 Tablet Freescale ARM Cortex A8
The Utopia Apad iMX515 runs Android 2.2 OS with Freescale iMX515 Cortex A8 Chip, support Flash Player 10, 512M RAM with Built-in 4G Nand Flash. Now you can surf the real web and watch all your favorite Flash video or play Flash game on this affordable android tablet.

However, it will be nice to be able to upgrade them with better OS, the shop tell me not upgradeable.
I'd like to upgrade a 7 inch tablet, seach Google for China-7-Inch-Android-2.1-OS-Tablet-PC-TL0702-.html and you'll find it under the web site szhwayee, from the original ship 2.1 Android OS to 3.0. Has anybody tried this and like to share their upgrade procedure?
Is it possible to install a custom ROM on a tablet that is NOT listed on many of the sites listing customs ROMs for cell phones or on the app ROM Manager list? Is there a way to compare a cell phone ROM (native OS?) with a tablet ROM?
Is there a way to install Android 2.2 (Froyo) on a tablet running 2.1 (Eclair) w/out installing a custom ROM?

You can't install a cell phone rom on a tablet. If you do.. then something bad will happen. You would probably have to wait for the official froyo update for your tablet since you wouldn't want a custom one. If you did, then you could get froyo the unofficial way. And for the cell phone rom.. you would have to be a developer/hacker to modify it (key mapping, resolution, etc.) and customize it to make it able to run on your tablet.
Ugh. Wished I'd have asked two days ago! Wasted hours stumbling around websites. No hope of an official update for the SmartQ T7.
What do you mean, ..."get Froyo the unofficial way"?
Oh, and thanks for saving me more hours and a bricked tablet.

Glad I helped. Anyways by getting it the unofficial way, is to get a custom built rom from a developer, but the bad news is that your device is not a category around here so no developer would publicly make a custom rom for it here.
This is my first ever post not sure if its in the right place but is it possible in anyway for me to play games through the onlive app on my sony ericsson u20i ? Help would be much appreciated thanks
why not try downloading it and trying a demo? It's free.....
or are you trying to say you've tried and it doesn't work because your android version is too old and the specs of the phone are too poor? If so then you're probably out of luck...
Im trying to say my android version is 2.1 and it requires 2.3 + to download I need to know if rooting my phone and installing a 2.3 gingerbread rom would allow me to do this
wow if there's an update for your phone from 2.1 then why haven't you done it yet?

I'm considering buying a phone that I've always wanted, however it's running an 'ancient' Android OS, Froyo. There are currently ICS-custom roms for the phone, but my question is, if I update from 2.2 Froyo to the 4.0 ICS rom, will I be able to access, download, and use 4.0 applications for it? Or are the custom roms just there to make the phone look up-to-date?
Thanks in advanced for any replies

When you install a custom ROM, it updates your phone to the OS that the ROM is based on.
So yes, when you install a 4.0 ROM you would be able to run 4.0 apps because you would be running Android 4.0
