[Q] Adding wallpapers - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my transformer yesterday and really happy overall. However in the live wallpaper there is only the water and ice one. I have got used to the magic smoke live wallpaper that can be found on my galaxy phone and my friend's acer a500. Is there any way to it on my transformer

Which Android Tablet?

So I've been using a totally great Dell XPS M1530 running Ubuntu 10.10 as a daily portable machine for a few years now but I'm getting a new uber PC for my birthday in the summer and I'm thinking of getting an Android Tablet aswell to replace the "portable-ness" of my laptop. I considered a NetBook running Mint or something but something about Tablet's just draws me in.
I have a HTC Legend running CM7 so I'm not new to the Android scene but I AM new to the Tablet scene. I want to get the "right" tablet because I regretted getting my Legend and wished I'd got a NexusOne instead. I don't want a repeat of that.
What Tablets should I look out for?
Any-body got any suggestions for me? I want something slick, elegant and well built, fast (1.2ghz dual core?) with a 10 inch screen.
I'd get an iPad but I just hate Apple's restrictions and I want something running Android.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 looks good but Samsung's (Nexus S and galaxy tab) build quality is usually poor (cheap plastic and stuff).
What would you guys suggest? Is there anything amazing on the horizon that I'm unaware of?
That might be available in about October at the latest?
Thanks for your advice and sorry about the wall of text.
well if you want a 2.1 Ghz dual core one you'll be able to get the Motorola Xoom 3000: has 1 terabyte of internal SD2 (new format), 8 gb of RAM and is running Android 5.0 (Blue Grass) and of course will have a 2160p high definition 2 screen, made out of the tears of new born babies...
which is due to come out in 5 years.
sorry typo should have said 1.2 lol. 2.1 that would be nice. for a moment i thought you were serious hahah. fixed it now.
Hi dtaylorjones
I took the plunge and bought a tablet a month ago - notion ink Adam - pixel qi, 3g.
It's a great piece of hardware. Fast, quality build, good camera, light, the pixel qi works well. Overall I'm happy with it.
The down sides are:
- the Eden UI still has a few bugs. I'm going to run Ubuntu anyway so not an issue for me. Ubuntu should be up and running over the next month.
- pixel qi is not the same as a kindle. Similar, but pixel qi is more for usage in the sun.
Thanks man.
Ive since decided to go with the Asus eee Pad Transformer.
nook color now that it comes with froyo

[Q] Tablet or Phone?

In a few months it will be my birthday and I have decided I want something phone/tablet-like. After picking Android over IOS I am now faced with a new problem. Do I either:
Go for a Samsung Galaxy S 2, with its speed and style. Also the convenience of having all of my social and media-ness in the one device.
Or
Go for An Asus Transformer with its snazzy 3.1 Honeycomb goodness and then get a fairly decent Orange San Francisco to tether it to 3G. This option has the inconvenience of having 2 devices- 1 of which is *slightly* to big to fit in my pockets but also gives me the safety of not dropping my very expensive phone if Im out with friends.
The Samsung is £510 and the total of the Asus and the SF is £475/£530 (keyboard dependant) so cost isnt really an issue. I just wanted people's oppinoins of which option seems better; any help would be apreciated.
This is a tough question and every person is different. I currently have an xperia play. So I would take the tablet but assuming I have a flip phone and faced with that offer I would take the tablet and the san fransisco.
But again it all depends on the user. Do you have a good laptop? If you do then just get the SGS II.
Yeah my laptop is a high-end Dell Inspiron 15R.

Looking for tablet!

I am buying an android tablet as an x-mas gift. I have 300 dollars to spend. There is no one better to ask then the awesome people at XDA!
I saw best buy has the toshiba thrive for 299$ on black friday but the chances of me getting it are slim to none.
I would like to know the best online deals for the best tablet possible or if it is exceptional a in store price. (staples, best buy, frys).
I have been looking around but i dont really know whats what! thanks ahead of time!
The Kindle Fire, it's now rooted and soon there will be custom ROMS, it has very good intergration with Amazon's marketplace and you get free stuff when you get it. GAPPS are also availible at this moment so you can simply download a launcher if you dont like the Built in version of Android.
The kindle fire would be great but the person i am giving it to is not much of a techie. She wouldnt be able to keep up with updating the rom and so on. +she really wants a front facing camera so she can video chat.
Then the Toshiba Thrive is a great option for her. It has a 2MP front facing (Better than any front facing camera out now) and all the slots/ports on it makes it amazing: Full sized usb, sd and HDMI with Micro USB and Headphone Jack. Honeycomb is very user friendly as well.
Why didn't you just search Amazon Shopping for it?
Also on Black Friday you can pick up a Transformer for $250

How goes the HP Touchpad stack up?

yep' Kindle Fire seems to be a good deal atm
I eyed the kindle fire and thrive for a while but I decided it's worth saving a bit more for the premium of the transformer prime when it comes out in a couple days.
If you can't wait and you need to stick to that budget, I'd go for a kindle fire.
Shes a must for a camera. She has no way to take photos and that was a huge deal for her.
kindle fire has to camera front or back. The hp touch pad is a fantastic device great price point and an awesome amount of storage but i am an android fanboy and i will only purchase a google product. webos just wont cut it IMO.
I would personally recommend the asus transformer which i just got about a month and a half ago.
I was not really sure either. I ended up getting the xoom at first only to return it within a few days. The screen was and is a real letdown with the xoom when it comes to movies and photos. Really washed out poor colors and contrast.
Now the transformer is awesome in more or less every way. Check out the many glowing reviews online to see for yourself. I choose it over its closest rival the galaxy tab 10.1 for one reason. They are more or less identical specs wise. But the transformer has SD memory extension which is priceless almost.
The screen is absolutely gorgeous on the transformer. Overall performance is all around fantastic also.
On a side note..i was waiting for either one of samsungs 7.7 or 7.0 plus tablets but they never came on this side of the waters so far. I was convinced a 7 inch tab was for me but ive been very happy with the 10.1 inch form factor.

Oh and the transformer has a very good 5mp back camera and 1 mp front camera also. .
And the laptop dock which you can buy separately also turns it into a very useful and functional laptop form factor...its not a necessity but its a nice option to have.

This is just a suggestion but you can get a rooted gtablet in excellent condition withbox paperwork and all on ebay for around $200.00.I own one which was my first tablet as well and you can not get a more well rounded tablet for the price in my opinion, and I did say my opinion,I am sure I am about to stir it up.lol.the one I got looked like it comefrom the factory,so it will not look used, and just take a look at the info on it,oh,I tookalook and there is several on ebay that will come like new, there is one with the factory screen protector still on it and says, never used only opened to root.anyway,I amnonody to listen too but I do speak from the great experience that I am having with mine.I hope you find some good deals, whatever approach you take. Good luck.

Replacement for Asus Transformer Prime

May I begin by apologising for putting my enquiry here, first. I tried to find a generalised Tablet group but could only find brand specific forums.
A couple of weeks ago I bought an Asus Transformer Prime and loved playing with it. To keep the tablet protected, I kept it docked to the keyboard thinking that this was a good thing. But that was until 14 days after owning the tablet. One morning I opened the tablet, which was docked to the keyboard and discovered a huge crack right along the screen. This worried me as I handled it with Kidd Gloves and it has never received any trauma to hint at causing the damage.
Long story short, the retailer is offering a full refund and I will now be without a Tablet computer. I have since found out that this is becoming a major design flaw with broken screens around the world.
With all this in mind I would very much appreciate recommendations for a replacement Tablet.
I would very much like it to have Ice Cream Sandwich and a 10 inch screen.
I would also like HDMI and some form of USB connection, even micro USB.
I don't have a budget, as long as the tablet is the best that I can get and can compete or even better the Apple fanboys.
Here are some images of my broken Asus. :-(

The very best product coming out of Android anytime soon is the Asus Padfone.

Padfone does look sweet. Should be a whole new crop of tablets coming out very soon. Prime infinity being one of hem.

Oh man I was thinking of buying the Transformer prime. Now with this possible widespread defect I'm hesitant. They do have a 12 month warranty but I don't know if I will risk it.

a500 vs a700

Hey folks,
I currently have an Acer a500, and it's been beaten to hell. It still works, but the outer case is alllll messed up and one of the speakers is blown. I recently found out about the a700, and it looks like it would be a great tablet to graduate to, but is it worth it? Has anyone here had an a500 and now has the a700? And those that have the a700 that have or have not owned a tablet before, is it a really nice tablet? Specs are awesome, the tablet is really nice. What are your thoughts? I know one of the greatest things about the a500 is, it NEVER gets hot, even when clocked out @ 1504MHz.
Pros / Cons?
Thanks.
My wife has had an a500 for about 18 months. I just got an a700 for Christmas. I kind of wish I got the a510 which is the same as the a700 except for it does not have the high resolution screen. It has the same res as the a500 which imo is plenty good. The high res causes some compatibility issues. Other than that, I am enjoying my new tab.

Good score. I didn't even know about the a510.

Looks like I'm going to want the a700 of the two. They're basically the same, but I like the higher dpi.

The higher dpi of the A700 is the only reason I bought a Acer A700. I wanted an Asus TF700 but the prices here :silly:
I'm very happy with the A700. For the price this is a good device, except a few lags and some not very reactive apps. I'm waiting for a really, really good CR.
Hi i own a acer 500 rooted 1544mz. I have been testing the aacer a700 and the asus tf700 side by side for about 30 days. I like both units and they both have their advantages however the only advantage over my a500 is the display and slightly longer battery life.
I picked up the acer a700 for $329 and found for my use it seems to work well(photo portfolio)
The asus tf700 was a little more at $429. My photos look great on it and the display is very bright in the sunlight. Plus it is liter than both of the other tablets.
I still have not decided on which one to keep and my 30 day return time is running out and i still don't have a clear cut reason to upgrade from my very smooth and fast a500!!! Any thoughts??

Hi, well I don't know about the TF700 but I can tell you for sure the reasons why the A700 (I own an A701, version with 3G) is better than the A500...
- Location features are better, A700-A701 has A-GPS and, most importantly, GLONASS, a Russian system than can improve accuracy and fix speed by a lot... TF700 doesn't have it (and has more GPS problems anyway, I read). My A701 gets a fix almost instantaneously (some 10-15 sec.) WITHOUT a data connection.
- Battery has three times the A500 capacity, I can't say how longer will it last than the A500, my A701 is good for 7-8 hours of navigation on Wifi. I take it it is about as much as the TF700.
- Most importantly, if you use the tablet for showing photos, then it's a no-brainer... the A700-A701 has a screen with 16M colors, whereas the A500 has 265K. TF700 is on par with A700 on this regard.
Cheers.
