[21 may][Q] Help upgrading to 2.3 android on HTC HD2 - General Questions and Answers

Hi!
I just recived my phone yesterday, its an HTC HD2, T-mobile but its unlocked, using it in europe. I know nothing about android, but I do know my question is very easy for those who have upgraded android.
When I start the phone, i see a black background and little text that says
Booting android from NAND. And the phone is running android 2.2
I would like some easy help on how to upgrade android, I have seen many articles explaining the procedure from Windows OS, but what about from android 2.2 to android 2.3??
Am I right thinking this is the latest version and most stable?
"Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS"
If so I would like some help to install it.
Thank you very much!

I've been using the HD2 for many months now, and I've flashed so many roms, but this was a wonderful little summery. Short, sweet, and to the point

Wow I feel ashamed that I posted that question...
And thank you very much for your reply!
The thing is, I was very new to this whole android/Rom flashing and all that I sort of panicked when I saw the millions of posts and tons of faq. And somewhere I thought " there has to be a very very easy way to do this " thats why I thought I should make a post because to me it seemed no one had the same phone with the same question, because there was no easy 2 step guide =P
The thing is, it is easy, but you have to read alot ( almost force youre self) there are some great faqs in this forum that helped me with my problem ( to those new members that reads this).
Today my phone works great and I have 2.3.4 (cyanogen 7 ).
Thanks again

[Android] NAND Boot Method for Polaris: FLASH IT!

** PLEASE, READ THE GUIDE BEFORE FLASHING **
Flashing a device is a risky process, and you definitively have to know that your device might not boot correctly, or not boot at all. You must also notice that this method is being tested and some components of your Polaris will not working at the moment. Take into consideration that there are developers that are sharing all their work with us, but although they're really good at their job, they all have their lives. So, if something just doesn't work, please, be patient*
NAND Boot for Polaris! Made possible thanks to DZO!
This method will allow you to start Android without the need of Windows Mobile. It will just boot like if the device had a native Android OS installed onto it.
- You may see this guide really long, but it's because I tried to detail every step and I put lots of URLs to make the process easier for beginners It's not than difficult as it seems!
Step by step guide:
Needless to say that you need to have HardSPLed your device first!
1. CHOOSE YOUR ANDROID BUILD
You can install try to install any build from the Kaiser and Vogue forums. They should work for Polaris:
I personally recommend to start with Myn's Warm Donut Release 5.
You can choose it in two different screen resolutions
240x320 (my favorite) - http://download219.mediafire.com/t0lnxmijgEjg/1drm2jqwjzn/myn-WarmDonut-04-24-2010-240x320-110.zip
320x480 - http://download533.mediafire.com/ml1jxoyomIDg/miw2uzjjzjq/myn-WarmDonut-04-24-2010-320x480-160.zip
If you want more info, check its thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619980
Download the build. It may be a compressed file containing an androidinstall.tar.
Copy this androidinstall.tar under a folder named andboot at the top level of your SD Card. The file path should be /andboot/androidinstall.tar.
You're now ready to flash the OS loader.
2. -OPTIONAL, BUT RECOMMENDED. ERASE YOUR ROM.
To be sure that you won't have problems with the flashing, you should use a tool that executes the called Task 29 to clean the NAND memory in the device. This helps the flashing goes OK and minimizes the chance of a bad flash.*
Fortunately, there's such tool: It can be downloaded HERE (big thanks to leppa).
It's a hacked flashing tool. To make it work you will have to select a dummy .NBH file. Use the .NBH file you want, preferably a small one. You can use the one that you will download in step 3.
You it finishes the operation, your phone will NOT boot. Don't worry. This is normal. We will make it boot soon.
More info HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6227425#post6227425
3. FLASH THE ANDROID OS LOADER TO NAND
You will need a .NBH in order to boot from NAND. It's usually named polaimg-panel[x]-[resolution]-[date].nbh.
I personally recommend to flash of the .NBH files by DZO dated 07-May-2010. They are listed on his site: http://it029000.massey.ac.nz/vogue/files/?C=M;O=D
Choose one according to your paneltype and resolution. Your paneltype depends on its maker. You should try from 1 to 3 to see which one works for you.
Flash the .nbh file you downloaded with your prefered tool (I used CustomRUU.exe for Windows).
To flash your device you might have to put your Polaris in bootloader mode. To enter this mode you have to do the following:
Press and hold the camera button.
Press reset while you hold the camera button. Release it (the reset button).
Hold the camera button until the colored bars screen appears.
If it doesn't work, remove the battery, wait for some seconds, put it back and try again.
When the colored screen (Hard SPL) is shown, you are ready to flash it using the flashing application (CustomRUU.exe, for example).
4. INSTALL YOUR BUILD
When you're done flashing, your device will boot. You will now attempt to install your build using the file androidinstall.tar.
You'll see lots of text lines scrolling while it boots. Now, pay close attention to the next step.
The system will prompt you to press and hold the center button of the DPad (in the middle of the jog-wheel) to start the Android Installer. It's a message like "Press x to launch the installer". Don't forget to hold it until the installer is shown!
The installer will eventually start.
A list of options should appear (in text mode). Use the jog-wheel up and down to navigate. D-pad center to select.
Choose your installation options (I selected System on NAND, Data on NAND). Don't choose any other option unless you know what you're doing.
Install it! (if it ask you to wipe the data, select yes).
Wait for the installer to finish.
The menu should appear again.
5. INSTALL THE SPECIFIC UPDATES FOR POLARIS
Due to particularities in our devices, some hardware like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth won't work properly if you don't apply some updates first.
You will need a file an androidupdate.tar to apply to the just installed system.
You can download it HERE (thanks to l1q1d).
When applied, the installer will be shown again.
You now have to select Fix permissions to avoid problems.
Don't exit the installer: soft reset your Polaris instead.
YOU ARE DONE! Your Android system will boot after some minutes.
Things that should WORK:
Phone calls: incoming/outcoming
Texting (SMS)
Data connection (GPRS/3G)
Wi-Fi
GPS
Bluetooth
Things that DON'T WORK:
USB Storage Mode
USB debugging is unstable.
Tethering
Camera (in Eclair)
Headset
Bugs/Issues:
Sometimes Wi-Fi hangs while is being disabled and prevents the device from suspending correctly (it won't sleep and the screen will turn of every time you press a button).
Data connection goes down from time to time and it won't reconnect until you go to the Modem application, disconnect, connect again and wait it to connect.
Audio Input: faulty and unusable with most of applications that use it.
* Enjoy and feel free to donate to our GREAT developers.
* I donated to our developers, and I'm from Spain. As everybody know, Spain is falling like a fainted Pokémon thanks to Zapatero (Mr. Bean II). If I can donate, how couldn't you do it?
I'm trying now.. Sorry my english...
They state that it's valid also for HARET:
if you're doing it with haret, extract basefiles to your sd, plop the androidinstall.tar into the same folder, and boot, hold down volume up just like the nand people (but don't pick nand to store the files, it won't work)
Click to collapse
I've tried with the specified basefiles and plemen's Android 2.1, but I had no luck.
I noticed that when I press run from HARET and the progress bar fills up, it vibrates two times. Then, it seems that the device is hung, but after 15 seconds (or more), it boots. However, I didn't complete the rootfs-less setup process. It complaints about this:
Unable to open persistent property directory /data/property errno: 2

Anyone?
Wait, does this mean its totally an Android ROM? If so, COOL!
haven't tried yet ^^
Did you take the last package on sourceforge for the Eclair 2.1 Build? The files on Mediafire was corrupted.
I think there is no speed improvement with this, it's "only" an easier way to install and upgrade the system.
This is NOT "totally an Android ROM".
i can't install with this method
is there a "how to" or forum thread somewhere cause i get
sh: 2: unknown operand
losetup: /dev/block/loop1: No such file or directory
Failed
Failed to reach system.img on SD Card
Click to collapse
during setup it complains "cant create folder /system cause file already exist"
i put basefiles at the root of my sd card and the vogue .tar in a folder call /andboot
all taken from here http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/
I think that you must flash a nbh that only works in vogue yet. I try to flash but it stop at 33%. I think that we must wait.

Yeah, same problem. It's impossible to flash now with any package for Vogue or Kayser...
We have to wait for DZO's work to port .tar and . NBH for us...
Hi fellas:
I carried out research about the new boot up method, and it seems it will be compatible with our beloved Polaris. But it still needs some fine-tuning, first of all due to the fact that the new installer is started holding down VolUp, but this button isn't correctly recognized with the current bits.
In other words, we should wait before trying out this one. Vilord is aware of this issue.
Stay tuned!
Hi SuperJmn,
Of course I wait for ...
I look every day in the Vogue/Kaiser thread and hope we can to flash our Polaris next time.
Thanks.
Android should work much more faster after flashing... Can't wait to try this

Hey
I have pola100 with pcar latest non-3d, Im trying my luck to get android started but with the latest files (img, rootfs, zImage) I am not able to. tried hell lot of combinations.
can you suggest me which one would I use, I downloaded some from sourceforge!
but I read that the new rootfs is for nand....
please friends guide me to right downlaods and versions for a near perfect android installation
Thanks in advance....
Niranjan
Hi! The new method is not only for NAND, but also for SD booting. It has some incompatibilities, so it's working for Vogue for the moment (Vogue owners are a bit more lucky than us in terms of development).
We are waiting for @vilord, @DZO and other authorities to fix the appropriate files.
I will contact them right after I end up writing this
Updated information for NAND boot. Thanks DZO!
Can you give us some feedback? Does it run better, smoothier than before? Or nothing about that?
it work but this resolution is not userful for me. No more speed than haret method, wifi and camera not work, system freeze some times. Do you have this problems?
How to put device in bootloader
Hello,
I've installed Android on my POLA100 (NAND method). Until now it's working fine. When I tried to put my device in bootloader mode, after installing Android, surprise... the combination (camera button pressed + stylus reset) isn't working.
If you used this: Eclair build you should download this update too: update for qvga and put androidupdate.tar from this archive on the andboot folder on your sdcard near androidinstall.tar.
After installing the system like SuperJMN said you'll have to press the power button one more after system reboot and choose update... from the menu, then quit when the menu reappear.
WIFI,Camera,Bluetooth doesn't work on this build(the only one I've tested with this new method)
Thank you SuperJMN for posting this,I hope it will remain for a long time on the front page and many thanks to DZO,VILORD,JAMEZELLE,PLEMEN and all other guys for the hard work.
Polaris
Hi,
for polaris you push power button, and boot menu works(NAND and SD).
The issue is that Wifi is not working now.
I try several builds.
So it seems not depending on the system?
Regards
How to put device in bootloader
Solved it. I put my device in bootloader by pressing the camera button + stylus reset when Android loads. I don't know if it worked because I removed my SD card and on the screen appeared "Waiting for SD card" but in that moment I've reset the device in bootloader.

Instructions for Root/Flashing the Gtablet From Blendblog.net

First let me introduce myself, my name is Sean Cullinan and I posted a very detailed set of instructions on my blog blendblog.net on how to take a stock GTablet and get it going with a custom ROM. I used Vegan for my instructions.
After the woot deal blew up a ton of traffic came to my site and there was some concern over using my instructions versus the ones here and also with the sources of the binaries I posted. I posted the binaries because I wanted to rename them with "number coding" to make them easier so that new users wouldn't install them in the wrong order.
Anyway, after talking with Roebeet and a few others I thought it would be good to post the instructions here as well. I wasn't trying to steal any of XDA Devs thunder, everything I learned I did through this site.
So here is the original blog post in it's entirety.. Note that I still pointed the links back to my server, you can find the same files linked from the devs at XDA if you don't "trust" me. Also, if you want to use TNT Lite 4.40 I posted a second tutorial to my blog, I kept it separate to keep things simple.
Please feel free to checkout my site as well if you find this useful,...and if enough people find this useful maybe this is "Sticky worthy?"
Verifying Installed ROM Version
The first thing you have to do is verify that you're GTablet is on ROM 3358 or lower before doing this procedure. If you have a newer ROM version on your device you cannot do this procedure at this time!
1) On the GTablet go to Settings->About Device
2) If the version is anything higher than 3588 STOP NOW! According to this thread it is easy to "softbrick" your device if you proceed. So again, STOP NOW! I hope to have instructions on how to get around this posted in the future.
Introduction
We bought a GTablet for work and our software partners also bought one to test the development we were doing on it. As such I had to write up instructions on how to flash the GTablet with the VEGAn ROM and a custom Kernel. I was told the instructions were very good so i decided to post them here. Disclaimer: First, flashing your tablet means you will lose any applications that you have installed previously or that came with the stock ROM. You will have to reinstall them. If you search around on XDA you will find other separate instructions on how to take backups if this is important. Second, please note that the developers at XDA Developers are not responsible for these instructions!! I put them together myself to help a vendor partner of ours whom I am developing software with. Many people have informed me that these instructions work great but as always with these things, you are doing something that is highly technical and something can go wrong...at which point you will have to figure out how to recover!
Installing Clockwork Mod Recovery
The first thing you have to do is install Clockwork Mod Recovery. The GTablet goes into “recovery” mode whenever you power up by holding the volume up key along with the power key. Clockwork Mod Recovery gives us a low level UI with which to work which the default “Recovery” mode does not do. To install Clockwork Mod Recovery do the following:
1) Attach the GTablet to your PC so you see it as a drive
2) Download and unzip the 1-cwmod_internal.zip file from the website on your PC.
3) Place the recovery folder and the update.zip file on the root of the disk drive that represents the GTablet on your PC from step 1. If there was already a recovery folder and update.zip you can delete them and replace them with this one.
4) Safely remove the GTablet
5) Power down the GTablet (hold power button and use the Power off option).
6) Hold the volume + key down while holding the power button. Release when you see “Detecting recovery key pressed” on the screen.
7) It will now install clockworkmod and the device will boot again.
Repartitioning GTablet storage
For some reason Viewsonic used an odd partition set when they shipped the GTablet. While repartitioning the storage wasn’t totally necessary it has been recommended on the forums so I did it. Here’s how:
1) Power down the GTablet
2) Boot into Clockwork Mod recovery by holding the Volume + key down while holding the power button. Release when you see “Detecting recovery key pressed” on the screen.
3) You will be presented with a menu, this is Clockwork Mod Recovery. To navigate the menu use the volume up and down keys. To select a menu option use the home key. To go back press the back key.
4) Navigate to Advanced->Partition SD Card (FYI, SD Card refers to internal storage, not the MicroSD card).
5) Choose 2048M for EXT size on the first screen
6) Choose 0M on the second screen.
7) You have now repartitioned the GTablet
Copying the ROM and Kernel files to the GTablet
Now that everything is formatted we have to copy the ROM files to the GTablet that we are going to use.
1) Navigate back to the root menu of Clockwork Mod by using the back key or by powering off and powering on with the Volume + key held down as above
2) Plug the GTablet into your PC
3) Choose mounts and storage->Mount USB storage. The Gtablet should now show up as a drive on your PC.
4) Create a directory on the drive called ROM’s.
5) Download and copy 2-gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip from the website to the ROM’s directory. Note that this file is 88mb (rather large). DO NOT UNZIP, just copy
6) Download and copy 3-gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.11.suppl.zip from the website to the ROM’s directory. DO NOT UNZIP, just copy
7) Download and copy 4-boot-cm_2632.32-xtra-vfpv3_fp-030711.zip from the website to the ROM’s directory. DO NOT UNZIP, just copy
8) You can now “safely remove hardware” from windows and select “Unmount” in Clockwork Mod. You can unplug the GTablet from your PC.
Installing the Vegan 5.1 ROM
Now we are ready to actually start installing stuff!
1) Navigate back to the root menu of Clockwork Mod by using the back key or by powering off and powering on with the Volume + key held down as above
2) Choose install zip from SD Card->choose zip file from sdcard
3) Navigate into the ROM’s directory and select 2-gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip
4) When prompted choose “Yes- Install 2-gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.1.user.final.zip”
5) Let the installer do its thing.
6) When installer completes go back to the root menu in clockwork mod.
7) Choose “wipe data/factory reset.” When prompted confirm that you want to wipe.
8) Choose “wipe cache partition”
9) Navigate to Advanced and choose “wipe davlik cache”
10) Navigate back to the root menu and choose reboot system now. The device should boot into Vegan 5.1. Let this happen.
Installing the Vegan 5.1 ROM supplement
There was a small update to Vegan 5.1 that was posted as a supplement that is installed exactly the same way that Vegan 5.1 was installed:
1) Power down the GTablet
2) Boot into Clockwork Mod recovery by holding the Volume + key down while holding the power button. Release when you see “Detecting recovery key pressed” on the screen.
3) Choose install zip from SD Card->choose zip file from sdcard
4) Navigate into the ROM’s directory and select 3-gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.11.suppl.zip
5) When prompted choose “Yes- Install 3-gtab.VEGAn.1.00.beta5.11.suppl.zip”
6) Let the installer do its thing.
7) When installer completes go back to the root menu in clockwork mod.
8) Choose “wipe data/factory reset.” When prompted confirm that you want to wipe.
9) Choose “wipe cache partition”
10) Navigate to Advanced and choose “wipe davlik cache”
11) Navigate back to the root menu and choose reboot system now. The device should boot into Vegan 5.1 with the supplement. Let this happen.
Installing Pershoot’s kernel
Pershoot is a fantastic Android dev who has written superior Kernel's for several devices including the GTablet. You can check his site for the latest builds. This kernel fixes several more bugs in the default Kernal that comes with Vegan 5.1. It is installed the same way that you install the Vegan ROM/Supplement:
1) Power down the GTablet
2) Boot into Clockwork Mod recovery by holding the Volume + key down while holding the power button. Release when you see “Detecting recovery key pressed” on the screen.
3) Choose install zip from SD Card->choose zip file from sdcard
4) Navigate into the ROM’s directory and select 4-boot-cm_2632.32-xtra-vfpv3_fp-030711.zip
5) When prompted choose “Yes- Install 4-boot-cm_2632.32-xtra-vfpv3_fp-030711.zip”
The device should boot into Vegan 5.1 with the supplement and this kernel. Let this happen.
Last Steps
You now have Vegan 5.1 installed on your GTablet! What is left to do? The launcher that comes with Vegan is kind of weak, it doesn’t rotate to portrait so I chose to install Launcher Pro which is much nicer. You can get this in the Android Market which is built into this ROM. Launch the Android Market and you can either use an existing or create a new Google ID. Do a search for Launcher Pro. If you don’t see it you may need to “fix” the Android Market which is common when doing a ROM upgrade. Here is the procedure to fix it.
1) Navigate to the Android settings->Applications->Manage Applications
2) Choose the all tab
3) Select “Market” from the list
4) Press “Clear Cache”
5) Press “Force Stop”
6) Press the back button to navigate back to the list of applications
7) Select “Google Services Framework”
8) Press “Clear Data”
9) Press “Force Stop”
10) Exit the settings. Try to launch the market
11) You should receive an error, this is expected.
12) Power down the GTablet (I’ve been told not to use the reboot option instead powering down and using the power button to bring it back up).
13) Power on the GTablet
14) Once everything is loaded go back to the Market. If you get an error wait a minute.
15) Search for Launcher Pro and hopefully it is found. If not repeat this fix process again (I’ve had to do it twice sometimes).
Once you have Launcher Pro installed you can make it the default using the “Home Switcher” application. You can customize Launcher Pro quite a bit, it’s a nice launcher app.
Note You can safely delete the ROM’s directory after doing this if you desire to do so, although its sometimes handy to have it on there if you want to re-flash for some reason.
You should now have a pretty rock solid GTablet that gives you a very good, stock like Android experience.
Awsome Tutorial!,, Truly Awesome! Thank you for taking the time to write this. My Tab is currently OUT FOR DELIVERY. I can't wait to get it and try this! Thanks again.
I noticed on your website that you felt that the Archos 101 is a better device than the gTab. With the recent updates in ROMS and kernels do you still think the Archos device is superior?
What did you use for rooting? That is the one thing I see missing in your post.
Thanks for the comments and compliments!
I didn't use the term "rooting" but this is what you are doing when you install CWM and then flash your own ROM. So following my instructions "roots" the devices.
Here's a link to my article pr0cs is referring too. I wouldn't necessarily say that I thought the Archos was better, just different. My comparison was made with Vegan 5.1 so the review is still relevant. Now when/if Honeycomb gets running on the GTablet (which is far more likely than the Archos) it may change the equation a bit!

I've read other articles that specify rooting the device first then installing CWM, and I've seen articles like yours that don't mention getting root access, so thanks for that clarification.
And wonderful step-by-step guide.
Nice write up. I'll have to search the forum for information about this ROM.
Sent from Captivate, Cognition 4.1.1
Thanks for the step-by-step!
Just got my gtab last night.
Followed your instructions to the letter. Everything worked perfectly, thanks for your easy to use guide.
And thanks to all the Devs that made it possible. This tablet screams with a different ROM on it! My iPad toting friends are already jelly...
I just followed these instructions today from Sean's site, in order to upgrade my VEGAn 5.1.1 kernel to Clemsyn's v7 kernel.
It took me a bit to find Sean's blog location, so I am glad to see this here. I would encourage anyone who wants to mod their ROM and kernel revs to use this as a baseline.
I nominate this thread for a sticky.
Thanks OP! I just got my gtab today... someone mentioned in another forum that you should get nvflash in case you mess something up... is clockworkmod acting as a replacement for nvlflash here?
I know this is a stupid question but is it required to root the device before following any if these steps

ClockworkMod is another tool but not a replacement for nvflash. It would be wise to be comfortable with both.

Rooting isn't necessary at all whether you're modding or not. Most of the custom ROMs are pre-rooted for your convenience.
Great instructions. Been looking for an organized and easy-to-use guide for Vegan 5.1.x
Just got my G-Tab and waiting for it to finish charging.
Worked slick as a whistle. No problems whatsoever. I now have a REAL Android tablet. Thank you for putting together a very clear and thorough tutorial.

LOL...awesome post, oops, just screwed it up!
Glad the instructions are helpful!

Followed instructions and now my tablet is flying like a butterfly, thanks very much!
But I got a quick question,
Is it normal for my device to say:
Baseband version: Unknown
Also, every time I try to open 'status' in 'about device', I get a:
Sorry! The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Is this normal as well?
You made this noobs day!!!
bro i have read and watched countless hours on how to do this...and it wasn't until i found this thread with my 100th google search during the past 2 wks that i felt confident enough to do this.
because of this thread, it was MAD easy!! again, mucho gracias.
on a side note...cant find launcher pro (or adw.launcher) in google markets. any idea why? suggestions?

Studjethro, try the market fix
+1 OP, great guide!
First of all, thank you so much for the concise and clear guide! I followed this exactly. The market fix needed titanium backup though.
Couple of issues:
1. The status check gives out error, does not work, and baseband is unknown - same as post #17
2. Calling using phone gives core dump :-( - I am assuming it should use google voice, but does not seem to work
Any ideas about these ? I have just started exploring. Will post if I find more issues.
Thanks again!

Hw-t18 / utano barrier t180 / agm rock v5 / jcb tp909 / cat b10 firmware; root; other

Folks, this post relates, to all the rugged phones above, which codename is HW-T18. They're made for many companies, but the firmware is universal, and since I know it's tested on Utano, AGM, and FortisX - rest is up to you on testing. Since there is not a specific part of forum, which relates to theese phones, I decided to make a separate topic thus here are few scattered, which doesn't give full info about rooting, or firmware updates. I do think it's neccessary, couse on my own, recently, when I tried to make phone better - messed up too much, and bricked the phone. I've searched for two days, with the help of few people from the forum, but finally came to some solutions, which should be all gathered in one place.
So first and foremost the firmware update. If you run on android 2.2, or you have 2.3.5 and need to flash it again, following this link
h t t p : / / share.branddistribution.de/utano_outdoor/sw/utano_BARRIER_T180_ANDROID_2_3_5_1.rar
you can find a 2.3.5.1 firmware. It should be placed on a SD card in folder /image
Now a tricky part. If you have 2.2 android, push the camera and powe button at the same time
If you have a 2.3.5 press camera/volume down/volume up/power at the same time
The phone, will vibrate twice, and probabily won't show anything for a few minutes. During this time, do not press anything, nor try to remove the battery. After approx 5 min, it's reboot with new firmware nothing more simple - so if it happens to brick the phone, there's a way to rescue it
ROOTING
Download the root.zip file below - place it on SD card. Power off the phone - power on again but to do it - press both power and home key (the one in the middle of hardware keys), keep the home screen pressed, untill welcome screen shows. Release the key, and when a droid with exclamation mark shows, press it again to run recovery mode - then navigate /volume up/ down and camera button to confirm, and choose "apply update from sdcard" choose the root.zip file, and after install is complete, reboot system, and enjoy rooted system.
I hope that I helped, if you have any questions related to this model, feel free to ask here. Maybe owners of this specific phone, together will find answers to them
Of course I'm not responsible for any damage you may couse - it worked for me, and few other people I've talked with, and read about
Hi!
I tried this flash now. When pressed buttons the phone vibrated only ones, and now stay in red screen 20 minutes ago... What can i do with it? I don't wanna make brick
WBR
qwerthj
now i connected to usb, and now on screen:
welcome update
fastboot: processing read commands
so, i think update is not started
Had the same - remove the battery, put inside again, and run the update again - be sure, to hold the buttons a bit longer untill it vibrates twice.
Have you updated 2.2 or reflashed 2.3.5?
I was afraid of a brick also - but it passed the second time no problem.
I have a phone AGM Rock v5 (HW-T18), root successfully by the above method. But the memory of the small machine can not install the application.Always runs out of memory, only 12MB.Please ask any ROM memory to overcome than not, I desperately need. Thank you

There's a way to free some memory - try to uninstall any updates, that are installed to "google maps" "street view" "gmail" and any other system apps you find. When you do so, you should have like 60MB of free memory available - but important, to maintain it, check for google play settings, to update the apps, only by you (not the automatic update), otherwise, the system apps, will update again automatically, and again you will lack, the memory.
The other way, is to create a second partition on the SD card, and moove the system apps there (by using a LINK2SD - it somewhere here on the forum), but it didn't work out for me though.

Hello guys,
I dont know if this is hte right place to post my question, so please redirect me if Im wrong.
Ijust bought an AGM Rock V5 Android 2.3.5. In the specification is said : "WCDMA SIM Band (Cellular) UMTS:850/1900/2100 MHz"
however I can only get Edge connectivity, no matter in what SIM slot I place the sim card. I am in Mexico and the network operator is Telcel which has 850 megahertz and 1900 megahertz frequencies.
I have sent emails to my vendors and AGM support, but I have not had any answer from them.
Do you know if there something else I need to configure in the phone or it may be damage?
Thanks and I appreciate your kind response.

CAT B10 HW-T18 Firmware
Hi could somone provide a guide to extract the full rom of the HW-T18 model cat-b10 for the purpose of flashing the rom to another B10 device.
I currently have some B10's without the language i need and some with the right language
So i was hoping to extract the rom from a phone with the language and then flashing it to the ones missing the language.
If there is an easier way to acheive my goal (adding missing system locale/lang) please let me know (morelocale2 and other apps has been no help)
I need the original room of the device agm rock v5 firmware

Guys, as far as I'm concerned there is only one rom available for this device - see the links in the first post. I know nothing about any other roms.
I've compared it to a "clean not flashed" AGM rock V5 straight from china - the compilation # is almost identicall with the one from the link.
Also as far as I know, noone has managed to extract a proper rom, from this device. What language do you need, that is not available?

To be honest, I don't know why you're not available to use WCDMA, where I live (Europe) it works without any problems. One thing important, it works only on one sim slot - the primary one. Go to settings networks/mobile networks/choose a subscription 1/ enable wcdma
If it does not work I cannot help ya.

I've managed to root and flash the rom the CAT B10 variant of HW-T18 very clean android, and with the Danish language i need but i am now missing the CAT branding of the phone's software, i've managed to make a complete nandroid back-up the B10 but i have no knowledge of what to extract and and how to pack them back into a flashable update zip.

This part on the B10 is darn tricky since buttons are so hard you can't feel if they are all pressed or not when pressing all four had to try several times to eventually flash.

Try searching for posts relating to making flashable files. Making such a file, is not a problem. What can be - is flashing, since original recovery does not support such files, as far as I know. I've tried to flash several times, when I had a problem with a phone, with missing files, but none flash file, could be read properly, by a standard recovery.
If you find and install a working recovery, for this device, then making a flashable zip file, would be just a formality.
i don't wanna pack the entire rom in a zip just the bootanim launcher app and few other cat apps since thats the only thing that set the B10 appart from the other rom
was hoping to flash them in similar way as your root zip
then flashing the rom then flashing root flashing app pack and my goal would be achieved
actually root would be unnecessary to fix the language prob.

[Q] How to get OTA

Hi,
I'm a Gnex user, there is a friend that has a Nexus S, when I saw it she was using GB 2.3.6!
I said, WTF! In know 4.1.2 is official on the Nexus S.
This is the info I was able of gathering:
kernel 2.6.35.7 gb5f63ef
[email protected] #1
GRK39F
How can I update it easily? with stock rom.
Best regards.
Your friend should go to settings and check for new system updates.

yes, she did, but it says "there is no update available"
Thanks.
You could flash the new stock rom for her. But first, try this:
You can try forcing your device to ask for a free download slot:
1. Settings > Apps > All
2. Find Google Service Framework in the list, tap on it
3. First tap Clear Data, then Force Stop
After this procedure the last checked date under Settings > About Phone > System Update should have been reset to 1970 or so. Tap the Check now button there and see if the update notification pops up now.
Click to collapse
Maybe this'll work, but I can't tell you that it works for 100%.
If it fails, you should definitely download the stock rom OR custom rom (like hellybean 4.2.2 w/ devil kernel) for her and flash it, but you have to unlock & root it for her first.
Hope I can help you out
Same issue!
Hello!
I too have the same problem. I recently got as a gift a I9020A, and before starting to use it as my main mobile I wanted to update it to a newer version of Android. It's current version is 2.3.6 Gingerbread and when I try to check for updates none will appear, I have also tried to clear data and force stop on Google Service Frameworks and then trying to update but once more it was useless. I've contacted Samsung Mobile's Help, they informed me that 2.3.6was the latest Android for I9020A, however I have seen that there are OTAs of the 4.1.2 released for my device.
This is my first android, I wouldn't know the benefits of updating the OS but I assume they are many, I have an iPad and I jailbroke it without updating the iOS and now if I update the iOS I'll lose the jailbreak and consequently all of the cracked apps, but I can't install apps that require a more current version of iOS, so I'm taking that experience to Android, don't ever want that to happen again.
I have already non-destructive rooted my device following this thread, but I don't know any much further than this, or even if the rooting I needed was the destructive one in order to apply the OTA. I saw this thread with the links for the OTA 4.1.1 but am not sure of the differences between IMM76M and IMM76D, so I don't know which to download..
I'll be glad to provide any other information needed. If anyone could help OP and me I'll be very grateful, give you a thank you and set the good word of you on the streets. "Street Rep +1" lol
Download the "sojua" one at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1932832
Then flash it (If you don't know how it works, just take a look at some tutorials!).
So I should install the sojua and not the OTA, right? The OTA would be only from the ics to jb?
And I don't know how to flash, by what I've read I have to use Clockworkmod Recovery? if so I think I can find tutorials easily, if not then please pinpoint me the right way, there is far too much information out there, I feel overwhelmed..
Anyone?
"sojua" from the thread IS the OTA version!
Also, I think you need this too: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/41124284/gapps-jb-20121223-signed.zip (Google Apps, for installing all the G-Apps)
To flash your device with CWM, you have to:
1. Install "ROM Manager" (@ Play Store, search for it)
1.1 Enter USB-Storage mode and copy the .zip file into your sdcard.
2. Open ROM Manager and install Clockwork Recovery (Simple)
3. Turn off your device after the installation has been finished.
4. HOLD Volume Up and the Power Button to enter Recovery Mode.
5. Select "RECOVERY" by using the volume button and press the Power Button to confirm.
6. After CWM has come up, select "backup and restore" first and backup your system. This may take a while.
7. Make a factory reset (at the main menu) // EVERYTHING will be wiped!
8. Go to "advance" and "wipe dalvik cache"
9. Main Menu > "install zip from sdcard" > select the zip you copied into the sdcard. (Select the OTA!)
10. Wait until finish
11. Repeat 9. , but now select the gapps zip.
12. Wait until finish
13. Main Menu > Reboot to system
You're done! If something bad happens, you can always restore by going into recovery mode and select "restore" in the "backup and restore" menu.
Thanks a lot, devil188, but unfortunately it still hasn't worked..
I get up to step 9-10 and then it will abort the update I don't know why. I've tried unzipping the Sojua tgz file, leaving only the tgz file, unzipping the tgz and zipping it into a .zip.. but it will always abort
Not sure how to proceed now
I will look for the file you need for flashing. Be patient actually, you could try to flash a custom rom, maybe you like those ones more
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
Any news?
Try searching the stock rom in the forums or flash a custom rom (<better ), it's fast to find
Can't do it for you now because I'm not at home right now
Also, if you decide to flash a custom rom, then follow my little tutorial
Sent from my Nexus S using xda app-developers app
I can't post a link I have to a DroidViews tutorial, since I have less than 10 posts, but by what I understood it would replace the factory image from mine 2.3.6 to a 4.1.2. Is there any problem with that?
Moreover, what Custom Rom would you recommend?
I've managed to finally be able to upgrade my Nexus S to 4.1.2 following the DroidViews tutorial. Now I'm having battery issues lol.
Thank you very much for trying to help me

External SD card is a better idea isnt it? seeing as the phones storage space is not only limited, but also exposed to factory wipes and such. The only problem is that cheatmans kyle cwm has the internal and external sd cards switched the wrong way around so its the internal sd card inside his cwm, but in reality it's really actually the external sd card... if that makes sense
This is the cwm recovery i use (with the sd cards the right way round)

But i think that Ext_SdCard is safer as you will need to wipe
And thank you and @Androidnoob1961 for the support
Quote, requote etc
well,
the initial very good idea from OP here to clear up
the messy site (t=2087177) is beginning now to end
up in a same messy place again.
can't you guys just quote the appropriate lines you refer to?
it sucks to scroll through large quotes for the sake
of reading a couple of lines of remarks been made to.
a lot of problems on the original site which caused this site
was due to this crap and also missing CR/LF,
bumptious letters, vacuous images etc.
I'm sure that was one of the main reasons why a lot of
people run including me into trouble because vital questions
had not been dignified with a response and/or simple answers
just been overseen.
at the end of the day - nobody here wants to end up with a brick!?

Note : Your touch won't work here, Move with your Vol_Up / Vol_down and choose with Home button and go back with back button

Currently there is no way to record without an app,
But, there are a lot of call recording apps on the market
Yes you're correct, my mistake. The power button is used to go back only in the cwm which I posted earlier
