[Q] How to gain root access on a updated DHD running Gingerbread? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello Frendz,
I am not very used to these forums and I hope it is not a problem to seek help in this general discussion forum.
So, yesterday HTC sent an upgrade to the factory default OS (i.e. 2.2 froyo) on my DHD and I happily upgraded to 2.3 Gingerbread. Now, before updating I had permanent root access on my desire through Visionary but just after the update I realised I do not have root anymore.
I would appreciate any comments and other experiences in this matter. Also, during my own research I came across Gingerbreak which is probably the best around for this purpose but am not keen to use it as it formats the SD card in process. Any suggestions on Gingerbreak's performance are also welcome.

You ought to check "Desire HD Android Development" under the device-specific forum "HTC Desire HD", like this thread:

Thanks.....I will take a look

How to make my DHD think its a Sensation???

Hi all,
I'm currently using the 1.27 version of Vitrious ROM (Sensation ROM) on my DHD (Ace) but can't use the 'Watch' app :-(
My suspicion is that the 'Watch' app won't work ("unknown error") as it knows its not a Sensation handset.
Can anyone make my DHD think its a Sensation???

Modding build.prop does the trick bit it may lead to dangerous situations(not that much-you need to re flash/restore nandroid)
Btw it is in /system/etc
I have no experience or knowledge of how to do that kind of stuff :-(
If anyone can help it would be appreciated...

read all this and u will figure out
Go through the guides on the index thread in the desire s development section.
Also read the tips on how to avoid bricking.
If done correctly, totally safe. Depends on your experience n patience too I guess. U haven't mentioned what version hboot etc you have which is the starting point.
Re your recovery thread, Google it or search xda, there's also a glossary...

Thx so much my hboot is 0.98.0002
Does revolutionary requires administrator to run? Cuz I don't hv the admin rights x( is there any method that I can bypass that? Sorry if this sound stupid
You will be fine with revolutionary,it's. What I used to do mine straight from virgin. it will S-off then drop the file you download from the site on the SD card and flash it to get root

Try searching XDA for the appropriate thread, then read, read, read

You should be able to. Go in xda forums from desktop. Select your phone model from top middle-right corner, select android development forum, you will get information.
Make sure you read and understand what you are doing.

Look around the Desire HD forum for guides. I4G is almost exactly the same phone, so guides and ROMs for one can be used on both phones.
