--GINGERBREAD 2.3.3 ON A VORTEX!!--
Ok, its already been discussed in other threads, "why doesn't the 'Scott Pilgrim' ROM work on an LG Vortex?" Actually, it does work... mostly.
(forum.androidcentral(dot)com/lg-optimus-s-rooting-roms-hacks/60353-scott-pilgrim-rom-cm7-gingerbread-zefie-edition-current-04282011-a(dot)html)
I'm posting this ROM as a preview, THIS IS NOT A FULLY FUNCTIONAL ROM. It displays roaming in the status bar.
--IT WILL NOT CONNECT TO THE VERIZON NETWORK.--
However, video works, and gives a preview of having 2.3.3 on a Vortex. I hope there is a developer out there that could help with patching/updating this ROM to allow connecting to the network.
PLEASE SEE MY FULL POST, AS WELL AS THE ROM DOWNLOAD HERE:

Thanks for reading, and I hope someone can help with this!!
--heydigdug(at)gmail(dot)com
i have messed with this and I think you are going to have to mess with the source and compile a different rom
I have a feeling it is hardcoded into the rom
I have changed all the apn settings and it still is in roaming
So I am guessing it has to be edited in the source
Thanks...
Thanks bhast2,
I have been trying to modify the "AndroidManifest xml" that is found in the "framework-res apk" that is in the framework folder. I've read that there may be a connection in that file with the connection settings. Thanks again!
i have looked at that
the only thing I found is the eri.xml file
it has some sprint things in it
I changed it to verzion and it didn't change anything
maybe I did it wrong
but the eri has to do with roaming
so it might be the key
it is in the res/xml folder
maybe you can figure it out
Thanks bhast, I'll take a look.
OMG lol im jus constantly waiting im rooting for yall to get this done. I cant wait for gingerbread to be on my phone. Any luck with the xml files??
I'm trying some things like that too. The apn-config is also wrong.
well it is seeing the Verzion network
Just a few more tweaks
Ok guys it now gets verizon service! I just have to get the data connectivity working.
Very nice!
@bhast2 and caedus90
WOW! I'm happy to see some progress! Thanks for the work!

No problem. I'm trying to get this to work on my parents phones, I hope I can help you guys out too. I don't have too much experience but I'll do what I can.
I'm trying to get the source code from the Sprint project and go from there. I got a successful build for my Inc so I'll work backward from that. Hopefully it will just be some simple edits.
THIS LOOKS AMAZING!!! I've wanted cm7 on my vortex for sooo long! =D can't wait for it to be completly done!!! hope it won't be too long! =P
This is really interesting! I've been using Breakneck but I've always wanted to use Gingerbread. Any progress so far?
any luck? This would be awesome to have
FYI I was able to install cyanogenmod 7 on my vortex, though the accelerometer functions aren't working and it has the occasional issue with installing / updating apps. Still, it's Gingerbread and basically fully functional.

Doing a search, I'm not finding any themes for the Tab.
I've deodexed my Sprint ROM and starting on one, but nobody else has tried??
Why do you need to conform to someone else's vision? I've only ever modified things for my self. I assume the same is true for a lot of tab users.
Good luck with a theme though.

Uh, whut? Don't know what you mean by vision and conformity.
Customizations to the XML and JAR files can be used by all. This is a community site.
I've been too busy working on other things, but I plan to port a couple themes over at some point. I think most people are just waiting on getting recovery going before anything starts cooking.
I need to get used to Samsung firmware updating methods before i start work. Ill also delve into it when CWM is working on every rom. Hope to see your contribution soon though

I have yet to get data working, though, I've flashed everything, back and forth, several times each. Anybody that could help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you gotten issues worked out that JT still has? IE: are you basically trying to convert JTs build only for mesmeriize, or are you going above and beyond and fixing issues like camera, bt, etc?
I just still haven't gotten data working with anything I've tried, I am by no means a real dev like dfgas and jt. So, I am just trying to get it ported for awesomeness.

Those issues exist on all AOSP builds. Just something you have to deal with until they can figure out fixes for them.

No, comm rom is Touchwiz based, that only replaces the mms app. I think it would only further break mms in an AOSP rom. The problem is deeper in AOSP roms. That sure would be nice, though!

If your thinking that it would fix mms, it wouldn't, all aosp roms have this problem for us.
Darn, got ninja'd.
The issues with MMS/Camera on AOSP rom's are very difficult, there is no easy fix or it would have been done already . From what we have gathered, the problem with MMS lies in WAP (among other things) - we can get it to locate the correct server (and i believe it even connects) but then we get errors referencing WAP not being enabled, therefore not getting the push from the server. One suggestion was that maybe something in the kernel needed to be tweaked, but we haven't gotten any further with testing that theory. Keep in mind most of us putting up ROM's and such in here are not "real" developers, meaning we haven't built anything from source (as far as for the android OS) and therefore we don't really have the capability of fixing such issues. Most of us have been self teaching and learning from others how to "kang" (port) ROM's that have been developed for other phones, that's why you're seeing these drops, so please keep that in mind .
Some developers, such as jamezelle, jt1134, and adrynaline, have been looking at the issues since the beginning, and if they haven't had any luck with current resources - then chances are until we locate certain source or come up with a work-around that they haven't thought of - things will remain as is.
here is an update on the rom, its not looking good, when L3ttuc3 makes the necessary edits to the framework we get a fc when we receive a sms and try to send one.

If you pull up the build.prop in the link i posted and compare to his and make the same changes - your data should work. We haven't had to tweak anything to get data working so i'm thinking an incorrect change in build.prop could be the case - or you could just be unlucky

Man,
I wish we had that many devs on our phone
Oh well, if we had more on cm7, it will help us collect more info on our phone so we can try a port to ics or aosp, or whatever...
Think of cm7 as a 'information collector' we can use to do new projects in the future.
I'd love to hop on this project, but I can't handle that much multitasking. I think we'd get further with more people on cm7, and then later do an ics port.

I think you are right about cm7. As much as I would like to continue with this project, I think we need cm7 first...lol
I have recompiled this thing 22 times now and still cannot get it to work. The biggest accomplishment I have made was getting it to boot and the setup wizard to display. But have not gotten past that.
I don't know much about kernels, but the way you and team acid have laid things out for us, as well as having a little bit of time since I am on vacation now, I think I am giong to take a shot at it. But I still think there is A LOT more reading/learning I need to do first...lol

Just to update everyone. I managed to get fix a couple of things. When I hit the menu button while in setup wizard, I can get into the wireless menu. I was also able to navigate thru the setup wizard, but had no keyboard input my email/password. I found I was missing a key file for the keyboard and will fix it later. However, after navigating thru the setup wizard, the homescreen/lockscreen doesn't show. It's coming together, slowly but surely...
Keep up the great work Thomas!
I made some good progress, I think anyways...lol
I installed swype and was able to get past the setup wizard properly.
I got the lockscreen to appear with a temp fix.
Still no homescreen, but I know where the problems lie and will be working on them tomorrow...

This is a SCRIPT for METRO PCS users ONLY!
This will fix MMS on any 4.67 OTA base rom. You must already be on metro pcs for this to work ie; metroflash, Houdini ect. If you are not already i believe you are too late as metro is stopping this service. For those of you that have already had your esn added to the database you are good to go.
This scipt is built off of 4.67.651.3 (Gingerbread 2.3.5) framework and will work on pretty much any 4.67 base rom. Been confirmed working on SOS n and of course Stock rooted(please inform of others you can confirm working on). This script edits the apns.xml inside the framework-res.apk and changes mms.apk. It also deletes the sprint apns that are located in data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/telephony db
and replaces those with the appropriate settings for metro.
I Give Full Credit to OAKIEVILLE for this! Since he is the one that started this for the evo 3d and let me use his idea/work to make this work for you guys. So if you see him around make sure to hit the thanks button for him.
thanks to Atljatl for testing for me
thanks to Mikekelso420for testing(kinda) slacker lol jk you were the ginea pig
thanks to bloodykiller for the killer guide to give us all data in the first place
Thanks to JD2589 for his 3g guide even though metro sucks in Detroit and i never get it.
I am NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ILL AFFECTS THAT COME FROM THIS SCRIPT if you have any you must of done somthing wrong.
REMEMBER 4.67 using 4.67 framework on a 4.54 rom and so on is definately gonna give you issues.
Boot 4.67 rom of your choice one time setup do whatever then reboot into Recovery and wipe cache and dalvic and flash script. You can even wipe again after if u want it wont hurt anything. MMS will work from first boot. Wifi off. Sorry but thats a gingerbread thing i cant change once u have sense ICS that may change. Scripts for more versions soon. PLEASE leave feedback so i can address any issues. ENJOY!!

...and any word on ics script?
Edit: I just saw bloodys op update where he added an ics script. It looks like its not quite ready though...and it looks like kelso has been running ics roms instead of testing for you!
Lol I know. I hope you guys get a sense 3.6 or 4.0 port soon or even an ota update of ics soon. Aosp are a lot easier to get working. Just push the apn conf xml you use for apn backup and restore and push it to system customize folder it will overwrite existing one. Set permissions to rw-r--r-- then navigate to.com.android.providers.telephony telephony db and delete telephony db. Then reboot and profit.

I wouldn't recommend flashing it on anything other than 4.67 unless you are a seasoned flasher. Just in the case it does cause bootloops or something. In my opinion just flash a 4.67 Rom and you will have better battery life and performance anyway. That's just me though. Good luck

This script is for the EVO 4g. But depending on the Rom you are running there are steps you can take to get mms going on the EVO 3d. I haven't messed with the sense 4.0 roms much but most of the sense 3.6 roms have an mms apk that you can change the connection settings on. Ics has been pretty easy for me on 3vo. On sense 4.0 an easy fix would be gosms. If your not familiar with modding phones much your best bet would be nocturnalXIS 3.6 ICS it has an option in aroma installer for metro same script that i use for this thread except its built off of the framework for that Rom. You could pull the metro stuff out of the zip and use it on other 3.6 roms but again that involves a little more know how. Good luck.

glad to see someones picking up the work. I see what you did, instead of making it like i did, which hasnt been working lately, you did what i wanted to do by just modifying the apn in the framework res. Its the best way honestly the only drawback is when people want to flash roms that have been heavily modified, it won't work unfortunately and the script that usually injects the apn into the telephony.db hasnt been working to well as of late either which kind of throws the universal script out the window. Its a pain in the ass really lol im thinking of a new way soon so imma upload it later and update all the scripts with it and then pretty much leave the rest to you. I have literally no time for it anymore with school and work and working out lately so yea lol Nice work though, keep it up
Yea I made that a while back should of just posted here. It's been getting tons of downloads but no one posting. But I guess that's a good thing. It should be easy enough for the people with themed roms to change some of the files out so they can keep they're theme.

I wish i could do what the flashtotalk program does. It would save everyone from rooting and anything. Its a custom mms app from aosp that has its own apn built in depending on the carrier. Unfortunately i haven't found it anywhere online and even if i did it has some sort of installation key so that kinda sucks. I gotta dive i to Android coding more to figure it out but thats gonna take a while

I have an old shift...and my son loves to play games and music on it, like me he loves tech. stuff....My question....is there anyway someone could construct something with all the phone, contacts, etc. out of it?...and just have access to music and google play for gaming....I tried, but got foreclosures everywhere. ..Thanx, if someone may find time as im sure others would be interested in this as well....
I can give it a shot. What ROM are you interested in moding?
Man...just something simple possibly a aosp type rom so the sense stuff doesnt give you a headache....whatever is the easiest...lol

Well I spent a lot of time trying to put something together yesterday using Provision and so far I haven't been able to put anything together I like. As a short cut you can get Titanium Backup Pro and freeze the contacts and messaging apps. (Only those two!) That'll hide the dialer, messaging and contacts apps. There is a ROM like what we are talking about here for the EVO 4g. I'll read through what the dev of that ROM did to make it work. Maybe it can be ported.

Yeah I seen that also through alot of searching, but that is beyond my knowledge as far as porting...Man provision would look awesome though....Thanks for trying though...Love you work by the way....
I threw together a quick port of the EVO ROM I mentioned earlier this morning before work & it booted! Its a bit buggy but it looks promising. Ive asked for permissions & hopefully can get something available soon.

Hey guys. Would anyone be willing to look through an updater script problem for me. I ran my new ROM through dsixda's kitchen and now I'm getting status 6 error. I'm sure its something small but I'm to tired to do any more tonight. If not its ok. I'll just look more closely later.
Edit: Here's a link http://d-h.st/Bwf
Here is a test version on what I have so far. I would have an official release today but I stayed up too late last night and now I'm going to be late for work. http://d-h.st/omo Its still a bit buggy....
