No themes? - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

Doing a search, I'm not finding any themes for the Tab.
I've deodexed my Sprint ROM and starting on one, but nobody else has tried??

Why do you need to conform to someone else's vision? I've only ever modified things for my self. I assume the same is true for a lot of tab users.
Good luck with a theme though.
Sent from my SGH-T849 using XDA App

Uh, whut? Don't know what you mean by vision and conformity.
Customizations to the XML and JAR files can be used by all. This is a community site.

I've been too busy working on other things, but I plan to port a couple themes over at some point. I think most people are just waiting on getting recovery going before anything starts cooking.

I need to get used to Samsung firmware updating methods before i start work. Ill also delve into it when CWM is working on every rom. Hope to see your contribution soon though

Working up one now. Sprint conducted some asshattery when assembling this thing, but I'm making progress
I'll see how close I can get to my Captivate theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850372
Say Boushh, can you reupload your deodexed camera.apk? It is the only one I couldn't convert. The download link in your thread 404's

Who are the Dev for D720?

So who are the developers that are going to be developing for the Samsung Nexus S 4G (D720)? I figured this is a question everyone has been wondering. Im very excited to get started with my Nexus S 4G! (Previously came from the HTC Evo and there were alot of dedicated dev., Hope to see the same here)
P.S I didnt put this in the Q&A Because this is a direct question to the developers in this section about the current ROM's Available. Please don't be upset : )
I hope netarchy puts up a rom with his liquid smooth touches. His evo rom + kernel was ILL.
The thing is, the nexus s and ns4g are dev phones, bare bone AOSP, so a custom rom is just gunna be "themed" a bit and/or the real "improvements" are in the Kernel or any additional apps the dev has created.
I would love to see a bunch of ports make their way over. I would imagine that a dev phone would be one of the easiest to port/build for (easy for a dev, not the average human )
in a way, we all are.. who is to say that someone has to be a "dev" to make something, or find out what may fix something? on the heroc we had hundreds of users sitting in an irc room helping each other trying to figure out why things didnt work and what would happen if we pressed this button 7 times instead of 4..
so in short grab some code and lets start working my repo is synced and already compiled im working with the rest of the ACS team to see if we cant bring some lovins on over from the epic/evo
trying to come up with a good name for the rom >.>
Well, its very time consuming. I did alot of theming in the past, then wrote a few apps for WebOS, but just don't seem to have the time anymore with fulltime work, college, etc.
You are right tho, anyone can learn and the nexus line are a great place to start, simple and not complicated. Come on young high-school minds with oodles of time! Make ur name known! Lol
Really tho, I wish I could contribute more

This number one thing to do is get ur pc ready with the right software and drivers (there are a couple applications for compiling/decompiling and signing, not just what u use for root)
There's a thread around here about theming for the epic. It has a nice intro to the basic setup ull need, just be sure to replace anything epic with sns, u can then move on to ROMs once u understand what composes a ROM. When I'm back at my PC I could probably hook u up w a good place to start, but right now I'm out and about after this heathen Bulls game! Woot woot!

If I may suggest, Epic 4G is just about the same as the NS4G. From what I hear they got our stock to work on Epic just after I posted this.
I know they have the CM7 half way ported on Epic as well as the obvious stock with the TouchWiz interface for whoever likes that stuff I figured this would be the easiest place to start.
stop spamming this, its not going to work, for the same reasons why i explained in your thread about it
It probably will work as much as flashing a Droid ROM onto a Milestone...same hardware...epic fail.
more so then that all they currently have is a .32 cm7 kernel a semi working .35 cm7 kernel and their stock .32 touchwiz kernel.. we only have .35 stock kernel, even if you could get past the bootloops good luck trying to make a phone call or get crap to stop force closing
Spamming? Chill out man. I'm just trying to help.

How to build a custom rom

I think I'm ready .I've been making modded patches and programs from scratch for Xbox 360 (I know, I know, its nothing compared to this) Just have no clue where to start. And I don't want to built it from a kitchen I want a full ground up. Just a few pointers would be nice.
EDIT : should I just start with a kitchen?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
best advice I can give you is, learn anything and everything you can about linux, and check out the android chef forum.
Baby steps. I think it would be a good decision to start with a kitchen. Just to get more familiar with things. Then gradually get deeper into it.

I'd say that with the android kitchen (somewhere on xda) to get your feet wet. You'll see some new terms you may haven't seen before and some of the basics of rom making.Eventually your gonna have to decompile apk's to be able to to xml edits and have to recompile them (so much fun ) and kernel compiling. If your stuck on doing something and a already released rom has that feature i say take a look inside the rom and see where you could start (not copying and pasting) to get that feature working in your rom.
I'm sure there's differnet approaches to learning rom making, i did it this way on my LG Ally which is how i have an understanding of how rom making works. Plan on doing this with my Inspire and sense based roms. I should also note i do this for personal knowdledge gain so anything i cook up is never released.
I'd also take a dab into learning some linux as well. Espically if you ever have to use adb shell, having a understanding of linux commands will be a plus

MIUI is FAR from an iPhone. Sure it looks similar, but that's where the similarities end.
Don't know why people bash MIUI because it's so called an iPhone look-a-like.
The only thing I dont like about miui is its launcher. If you swapped it with adw or any other launcher from the market it going to turn into one of the best roms ever. Its really fast and eye candy. Check this video out

Dude never give up even if people dont like MIUI you never make a rom for anyone in particular.. the work that is done on this comunity is for everyone and its always apreciated.. that said.. if you need help with this try contacting developers in the vibrant forum whom have created MIUI.. or try contacting people in the official MIUI forum i think its called MIUI.us not sure.. but all i know is that someone out there will be able to help you it doesnt necesarly have to be developers in this particular forum.. never give up man you might end of being a recognized developer due tp your hard work.. nothing in life is easy.. i really do wish i could help you but the my best advice would be... talk to other MIUI developers im sure theyll be able to help you.. thank you for your dedication to this forum

Hey there Raver
I would've built it from source if miui was open source
i got something to help your 1 error we had left and your kernel along with the proper device vendor trees rils so on so forth lol as i went back though ur stuff and snagged miui source and started the port over from there but used the stuff we worked on to speed some areas up
modified your inits added back in some other things here and there god i dont wanna chanin log this on a post ill send it to you on gtalk and you can update your op
dangg i was thinking about trying to work on a port also but it seems like everyone's having trouble
So I guess its not east to port from galaxy s or vibrant? There have been some unnofical ports to other devices on miuiandroid.com and niui.us but no one there is bothering to help
They are completely different devices. It's pretty tough to port an entire rom. But if anyone needs any help, I'm willing to do what I can

[NEW][METROPCS](Scripts) MMS FIX 4.67

This is a SCRIPT for METRO PCS users ONLY!
This will fix MMS on any 4.67 OTA base rom. You must already be on metro pcs for this to work ie; metroflash, Houdini ect. If you are not already i believe you are too late as metro is stopping this service. For those of you that have already had your esn added to the database you are good to go.
This scipt is built off of 4.67.651.3 (Gingerbread 2.3.5) framework and will work on pretty much any 4.67 base rom. Been confirmed working on SOS n and of course Stock rooted(please inform of others you can confirm working on). This script edits the apns.xml inside the framework-res.apk and changes mms.apk. It also deletes the sprint apns that are located in data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/telephony db
and replaces those with the appropriate settings for metro.
I Give Full Credit to OAKIEVILLE for this! Since he is the one that started this for the evo 3d and let me use his idea/work to make this work for you guys. So if you see him around make sure to hit the thanks button for him.
thanks to Atljatl for testing for me
thanks to Mikekelso420for testing(kinda) slacker lol jk you were the ginea pig
thanks to bloodykiller for the killer guide to give us all data in the first place
Thanks to JD2589 for his 3g guide even though metro sucks in Detroit and i never get it.
I am NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ILL AFFECTS THAT COME FROM THIS SCRIPT if you have any you must of done somthing wrong.
REMEMBER 4.67 using 4.67 framework on a 4.54 rom and so on is definately gonna give you issues.
Boot 4.67 rom of your choice one time setup do whatever then reboot into Recovery and wipe cache and dalvic and flash script. You can even wipe again after if u want it wont hurt anything. MMS will work from first boot. Wifi off. Sorry but thats a gingerbread thing i cant change once u have sense ICS that may change. Scripts for more versions soon. PLEASE leave feedback so i can address any issues. ENJOY!!

Hey mteezey,
Nice job man, I will be flashing this as soon as Swagstr releases his next update.
JD
Switched to a sense Rom (SOS n) for the first time in a couple months cuz of this. Thanks!
...and any word on ics script?
Edit: I just saw bloodys op update where he added an ics script. It looks like its not quite ready though...and it looks like kelso has been running ics roms instead of testing for you!
Lol I know. I hope you guys get a sense 3.6 or 4.0 port soon or even an ota update of ics soon. Aosp are a lot easier to get working. Just push the apn conf xml you use for apn backup and restore and push it to system customize folder it will overwrite existing one. Set permissions to rw-r--r-- then navigate to.com.android.providers.telephony telephony db and delete telephony db. Then reboot and profit.

i just had my htc 4g added about a month back and i just called 611 supervisors supervisors supervisor and confirmed they will continue flashing any houdini at corporate stores as of 5-20-12 so i suppose it was just a rumor, and thank alot for this script stuff i will try and figure it out
is their anyway to preview this script effect , like screen shot or whatever ;D
oh i just read where you said using this on 4.54 will have issues , so i suppose i am not able to see the bambess of your thingy you worked hard on for the metropohlis community
Search bloodykilla's metrodroid v4 thread. In his op, there is a download link for the 4.54 script (for sense roms) Flash it in recovery and you'll be straight. Don't worry, it wont mess up your phone or anything. You may need to flash it more than once for it to stick. But don't sweat it. It works.

I wouldn't recommend flashing it on anything other than 4.67 unless you are a seasoned flasher. Just in the case it does cause bootloops or something. In my opinion just flash a 4.67 Rom and you will have better battery life and performance anyway. That's just me though. Good luck

This script is for the EVO 4g. But depending on the Rom you are running there are steps you can take to get mms going on the EVO 3d. I haven't messed with the sense 4.0 roms much but most of the sense 3.6 roms have an mms apk that you can change the connection settings on. Ics has been pretty easy for me on 3vo. On sense 4.0 an easy fix would be gosms. If your not familiar with modding phones much your best bet would be nocturnalXIS 3.6 ICS it has an option in aroma installer for metro same script that i use for this thread except its built off of the framework for that Rom. You could pull the metro stuff out of the zip and use it on other 3.6 roms but again that involves a little more know how. Good luck.

glad to see someones picking up the work. I see what you did, instead of making it like i did, which hasnt been working lately, you did what i wanted to do by just modifying the apn in the framework res. Its the best way honestly the only drawback is when people want to flash roms that have been heavily modified, it won't work unfortunately and the script that usually injects the apn into the telephony.db hasnt been working to well as of late either which kind of throws the universal script out the window. Its a pain in the ass really lol im thinking of a new way soon so imma upload it later and update all the scripts with it and then pretty much leave the rest to you. I have literally no time for it anymore with school and work and working out lately so yea lol Nice work though, keep it up
Yea I made that a while back should of just posted here. It's been getting tons of downloads but no one posting. But I guess that's a good thing. It should be easy enough for the people with themed roms to change some of the files out so they can keep they're theme.
Edit; just realized this was my thread. Thought we were in bloodies thread still. That's what I get for checking after working in 97 degree heat all day.

Yea tell me about it. You can never see how things are working if no one replies lol kinda sucks but if you apply it to newer phones im sure people will post more. I wish i could do what the flashtotalk program does. It would save everyone from rooting and anything. Its a custom mms app from aosp that has its own apn built in depending on the carrier. Unfortunately i haven't found it anywhere online and even if i did it has some sort of installation key so that kinda sucks. I gotta dive i to Android coding more to figure it out but thats gonna take a while

Question + Cool Hint

I finally got my computer working again, so I have some questions regarding rom cooking. Would I need permission to use ayOteddy's "Stock [email protected] Deo Rooted" as a base for my roms. And If I really wanna get into this, some recommendations for ideas even if I dont use them?
ALSO. Its well known that we do not really have a soft lanscape keyboard, no matter what keyboard used, right? Well that's wrong. Its been awhile since Ive used this keyboard, I used it on my old Optimus T actually, however, the keyboard known as "Hacker's Keyboard" has an option to always view the landscape keyboard even if a hardware keyboard input is present. Just thought you all would like to know that I figure my little discovery could be useful to you all ^_^ Welcome.
*** One more thing, does anyone know ways I can change the settings options and navigation + links? Like, the Theme Settings space for example?

I actually used KJ2 for TigerFusion without permission. I figured since ay0teddy retired long ago, he would not reply to my PM. I think as long as you give credit to him it should be fine.
I recommend using ASimmons Theme Injector if you want to port over a theme. Just remember that the Sidekick 4G uses hdpi. What I did for Froyo Iced Up was just change one letter in the apk.....the m in mdpi to h. If you don't do this, the result will be a brick. I had to use Odin to flash back to stock....lol.
And remember that the Bali kernel with keylogger removed will only work on KJ2. You can actually extract the zip and copy the contents from the kernel_flasher folder right into the update folder of your kitchen project.
Thanks for the keyboard app recommendation. I'll definitely try it out! Good luck with the rom cooking. :good:

I actually used KJ2 for TigerFusion without permission. I figured since ay0teddy retired long ago, he would not reply to my PM. I think as long as you give credit to him it should be fine.

Re: Thanks RicAndroid I was actually gonna theme the rom from each file individually though ^_^ and I could also use some help with another thing. How do I get the extended power menu? 0.0
Hats off to ayoteddy, sduvick, and krylon for the work they did. When all is said and done, those are really the people that pushed things forward and got the Sidekick 4g a couple useful 3rd party kernels.
As I recall, ayoteddy shared his stock deodexed rom so other people could have some fun cooking up their own custom. So, just credit him and move on. I don't think he'll be upset at all.
Make sure to also credit krylon and sduvick in anything you do. If you dig back into the forum, you'll see that they worked together.

That was way tricky. You need to add three pngs to the drawable-hdpi folder after you decompile the framework-res.apk.... reboot, reboot_ recovery and download. Then edit the strings.xml folder.... after that, it gets pretty hairy. I'll send you a pm with all the steps needed to configure the android.policy.jar file.
Oh, and thanks for the advice orange808!

That would be very helpful! Thank you. And about the keyboard, no problem. Have you checked it out yet?
Also, any ideas for a good color scheme? I wont name my project til I have a scheme for the look. AND.....should I kill touchwiz launcher? o.o

Dude...I just thought of something. Why don't you make a custom Key Lime Pie theme? Just use the various images found on the net for inspiration....maybe you can make a kind of CM theme based on yellow and green...just a thought!
As for TouchWiz....ugh...I personally hate it. Why not go with Go Launcher? It is a bit on the hefty side but is very theme-able!

That is a great idea not gonna draw conclusions yet, but the whole green color seems to look nice on the SK. And I used to love Go Launcher, but it became so chock-ful of ads and weird buying with credits and just....it became a bit too much I think? I might poke around and try to find an older version of ADW and just break the market link so it doesnt upgrade to the new one. Which by the way, I wanted to suggest in case Holo Launcher starts to get old for you, it looks alot like the ICS update, spare the icons. But with a theme installed its gotta be the best ICS launcher I've seen yet IMO anyway.

Learning
Well, I tryed to set up the EPM for Sidekick from scratch. No go, it's different than a lot of other devices it seems. Could anyone direct me with this a little? Please? It would be awesome because I really want to learn some while building this.
I know I have a lot of questions, but believe me, I appreciate it more than you know and I love the community for all its provided help. I have one more:
Which file happens to be for the notification background? Have tried a few but see no differences :/
It is amazing how PDT and ayoteddy got all of this working. I tried editing the classes.dex file on my own, but it seems that the Sidekick 4G is a freak mutation of some sort.
I wound up taking a shortcut and used GenericGinger's android.policy.jar file. I edited the GlobalActions.smali file using Notepad ++ and added the reboot info from the public.xml located in the framework.

need 10 posts. What a stupid rule

Then make em useful posts instead of blabbing in random posts... if there is time to shoot the **it, then there is time to help. Just do some searching or redirecting. Or, post some opinions on someones theme or app or whatever, then they could use that feedback for the better rather than some random post.
Just saying, could be doing other things bud. Not to sound like a jerk or any bad way that can be taken. Good-luck with the posts.
Dude...you still working on this?
