Hi guys
Just picked up my nexus yesterday. I got a SIM card for it today. I cannot seem to get 3g to work, only "E".
Apparently, this was an original Roger's phone, but I bought it from someone using it on at&t.
Please help
Thanks

Hi all, UPDATE!
I confirmed with previous owner that the 3G worked.
I purchased a new SIM card for it. Still stuck at "E".
I tried my wife's phone SIM card. Her 3G works on her phone. But SIM card on my Nexus S still comes up "E" only.
Previous owner suggested changing radio. I don't know how to do that.
In Fastboot mode, Carrier Info shows up as ATT, not Roger's.
I have been playing with the APN's to no avail either.
Any ideas?
Please help.
Thanks
Heeter
Was your data working on a previous phone? If not I've had this happen to me but im on Fido (same network). what i found was some how they had disabled data on my account thus my 3g didnt work.
Give rogers a call and explain to them the situation and have them check into your account to see if the data is active. activate it if its not, this should fix the issue.
Fastboot mode will show ATT regardless if your on rogers, telus, bell, koodoo. the only one thats not ATT is wind which shows tmobile. Give that a go and let us know the result
Thanks for your response, Bud.
Will phone them later this morning.
Will update if that does or doesn't work.

Contacted Rogers,
They tried to reset my profile, and it didn't work.
They recommended to me to repair my device at local repair shop.
Is there a way to unroot my nexus s? return it to factory set?
Might try that, running out of options.
Heeter
if you have fastboot installed you can type "fastboot oem lock" in the command prompt and it'll lock the fastboot again at the same time factory restore everything.
but before you do that go into your phones test menu, go to your dialer and dial out *#*#4636#*#* and go to phone info, once your there go down and you'll see a section with the title set prefered network types. see if the drag down menu is set at GSM/CDMA auto (PRL)
Thanks imisky,
I did check and it does have that option selected already.
I do have SDK & fastboot installed.
I won't need an original Nexus S image?
Just a single fastboot command will do?
I was reading somewhere that I needed an ODIN application? Don't know what ODIN is.
Doing a complete titanium backup as we speak...............
Thanks
Heeter
What nexus s model?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Hi demo,
It is in my sig, I9020A
Thanks
Heeter
Yea i see your sig now from my PC
XDA app doesn't show
What would be the best way to return this to unroot?
I just tried the unlocker website way, and it didn't work.
Maybe if I return it to full original, it might help my situation.
Thanks
Heeter
your problem sounds like a bad software flash, i had a similiar problem with my phone. You are looking for I902A GrI54 XXKB2 software for a stock canadian I9020 A phone. You can find the software in the form, you dont have to use odin, you can flash it through clockwork recovery.
You may have to flash radio XXKB2 radio seperately
I am searching everywhere for this stuff, cant find anything.
I am presuming a GingerS, or a MoDaCo (any 2.3.3?) is GRI54, am I correct?
But I can only locate XXKB3 or XXKB1. Cannot locate XXKB2 on the site.
I tried GingerS v0.8 already, but with XXKB3, and it didn't work.
Is GingerS canadian anyways?
What are you using Pterry30? Would you have links to your combination of software?
Heeter
your problem happened to me when i flashed SuperAOSP 2.3.4. I couldn't get any 3G signal since the ROM changed my radio to a version that won't connect to Rogers 3G.
get the KD1 radio from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13710179 which is what i used to get my 3G back. solid 3G signal, with 550 kB/s Down and 315 kB/s Up on Speed Test.
That radio is not GRI54 btw. It is GRJ22 XXKD2 that probably only works for 2.3.4 but try it anyway.
There's another update.zip that's floating around in this forum that has the GRI54 KB3 radio for the 2.3.3. Try looking for that one if you're still on 2.3.3.
Didn't work

I am at a total loss..................

I am trying now to fastboot oem lock, but I keep getting "Device waiting" and nothing happens.
Maybe I should try this ODIN,
Maybe I should try to start @ factory original.
Heeter
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
I tried the nandroid stock backup restore through clockwork mod, I rebooted a couple of times. CWM is still there, and the phone won't get out of airplane mode.
Thanks

This idea sounds dumb, I know, but are you really REALLY sure that your Nexus S is the right model for Rogers? A T-Mobile Nexus S with AWS will do EDGE and not 3G on Rogers. Just to eliminate the possibility, if you know anyone on Wind or Mobilicity, put their SIM in your phone and see if it gets 3G on their network. A friendly Mobi or Wind dealer may be willing to help you out. If it gets 3G on Mobi or Wind, I'm afraid you got the wrong Nexus S after all. It's possible that the first owner was only getting EDGE on AT&T, or -- well, that he lied to you.
Thanks Gun,
I was thinking that, or that somehow the bootloader was changed to another version of nexus s. I can't get into the bootloader with SDK, no matter how much I try.
I had questioned the previous owner right from the get go. He told me it was an original rogers phone.
Here is our transaction thread.

That was the first thing I asked on the second post, he answered promptly on the third post.

I used the search function in Root Explorer, but found neither "OTA_Supersonic" or "update.zip"
It must be in one of those folders that need root to view (right now I'm stock no root) like /data or something

There's an OTA update we just got on the #EVO that breaks the root. Don't install it if you want to root.

Well that sucks...
upload it so the devs can see whazzz up!
Here's a copy of the sprint hero ota that I got at the same time and it supposedly (not gonna test it) breaks root. I'm pretty sure it's really a super cool update to make are phones ten times better
Just got back home. Super glad I saw this thread. I had the guy at radioshack cancel the update when it came up (he had to turn phone on to complete activation, he said).
He mentioned that for the other 6 phones he did that morning, he let the update install

99% of the population is better off with the update due to the storage fix. Rooters are a tiny group of people, relatively speaking.
The guy at Sprint almost ran the update since they do have to turn the phone on to activate it, however since I didn't need anything else he just told me to make sure to update and told me how and even offered. I told him I'd get right on it as I go outside. But yea the OTA is probably best for most consumers buying this device (especially after the conversations that took place this morning) as just about everyone else there this morning just wanted to get the phone switching from various carriers from T-Mobile and ATT and just wanted it to work. There was like one other guy there who was pretty knowledgeable buying the phone outright like I was, but he claimed again he just wants the phone to work no jumping through hoops and knows about rooting but has no intentions to. The guy in charge was emphasizing to his staff to make sure to push the update. I just happened to luck out.
anyone got pre and post ota version numbers so I can confirm my unit hadn't been updated before handing it over? Thanks

I was running flipz stock got the notification last night at like 3am and updated. Not sure if it closed root access because I could still go into the recovery screen and navigate the menus to flash, wipe etc.

That sounds promising. Look at the rom version in the about section of settings. Does it end with a 1 or a 6?

are you able to type su thru adb shell or connectbot on the localhost after applying the OTA while stil using flipz stock with root ROM?
um i tested... OTA applied... Rooted, recovery, NAND backup... it all worked...USB debugging Enabled on plugin. Installed 64bit ADB drivers and boom!
no problem to fear the root loss
um crap... nvm apparently i didnt update...
i swear I downloaded, installed, restarted the phone to allow install... but it shows software number 1.32.651.1.
maybe because I did a factory reset? then that would mean that this update is rather a patch (ie like a cab fix)??
or did the update not apply?

But does that retain the update fix for the sdcard?
damn i updated what am i supposed to do now ?
I'm really sorry if this doesn't belong here.
My atrix 2 (MB865 from Singapore) updated by OTA to ICS then rooted successfully and I installed custom roms (scv7 and swifty etc) and even mods (xLoud and Beats) but in CWM (Bootstrap + cwm-on-boot script) it would usually say ''installation aborted'' whenever I tried to flash a custom rom, which is pretty weird since I was using the correct roms for my device.
One day I decided to go back to stock ICS by flashing a ics fzw in RSD Lite 6.0 (I tried flashing 6.7.2_EDEM-18-SEARET_cfc.xml and 6.7.2_EDEM-18-ASIAOPS_cfc.xml) but every time it would stop at step 14/20 ''writing system.img'' but the progress arrows would still keep moving. So after an hour of waiting, I disconnected the phone from the usb cable and I got the black screen with Flashmode (Flash Failure) with ''cannot program'' and ''battery low''. Now the battery died and it won't even charge when I connect it to the wall adapter, it would only boot into the flashmode (flash failure) screen and when I turn it off and try to to it on again it won't. I don't think it's hardbricked because when the battery was still on, I could turn it off and boot back up into fastboot with options like normal boot or go to the stock android recovery.
What do I do now?
Hey, so you have 2 issues here. 1 is that your battery is dead, and you need to charge it.
you can try to find the diy method posted here a while ago, but be careful as you could fry your phone if your not careful. or you can find another phone to charge the battery in (another a2). if neither of those work, you can buy an external charger online to do it.
2 is the issue of why it is not flashing. make sure you are using the exact right fxz for your phone version, there are many available.

Thanks alot man, i've stopped stressing, I'll find a way to get the battery charged. But then the problem is in how to escape this damned AP Fastboot Flash Mode "Flash Failure" screen. I mean the fxz I mentioned should work (they match the phone's specifications) but whenever I use FDS Lite 6.0 it always gets stuck at step 14/20 "system.img" for like an hour, is it maybe a drivers problem? Should I try another computer? Should I claim warranty for it even though it's rooted? Thanks in advance

I am going to be totally honest here. You are using the wrong fxz file for your phone. I see you are trying to flash the SEARET fxz, that is for south east asia phones ONLY, and would not work on say an AT&T phone that was purchased someplace else and just being used there.
First off what region/country are you in?
Second does the phone have the AT&T logo at the bottom front of the phone?
Did you get the phone through proper channels in your part of the world, or did you buy it on ebay or something?
Yes all of these things matter. You will need to do the McGyver method to charge your battery (lkrasner mentioned it as the diy method). It is in this forum, just Search for it.
After you get us the information I asked for above we will be able to better help you.
Also one last thing to check is to see if the MD5sum matches. If not you prolly have a corrupt download and that is why it may not be working as well.
With respect to our developers this will allow you to flash without a battery. It does nothing else useful but does get around the low battery issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910027
There are other forms however being in Singapore may limit your options. Remember Google is your friend.

To follow up on that, there is a simple way to check if your Atrix 2 is from Singapore. Open the back cover, remove the battery, and look for

Hi, I have Razr HD from Verizon which is currently running Roger's firmware: 98.21.122002.XT925.RCI.en.CA (android 4.1.2), baseband: vanquish_u_bp_100700.220.65.33p bulid number: 9.8.2q-8-xt925_vql-12.2.
I am having problem connecting this thing to my pc.

The USB composite part gets installed but rest of the interfaces dont. I even tried using Motorola's software to update the drivers but still no go.
My phone is unlocked and I am using a different carrier, and I was wondering if I can reflash it to the newer Verizon firmware (4.1.2) would that take away my unlock? Also is there a way to reflash the same firmware (4.1.2) that I got above.
Also when I go into storage and click on USB connection and then click on MTP, and as soon as I exit out of that window, and go back to check if MTP is still checked it I find that it automatically gets unchecked. (Mainly this is my problem which is why I'm seeking to reflash my firmware in hopes to fix the issue and that the drivers won't get installed).
Any help would be appreciated!!!
Thought I would give android another try but all fails, back to an iPhone.

Have you tried on another PC?
Don't blame an OS if you flashed Rogers (XT925 firmware) on a Verizon device (XT926) and something went wrong that's your fault.
Read which drivers its looking for. Looks like XT925. You don't even have that, download the drivers manually and try again

I have tried 5 different PC's with no result. I tried to look for manual drivers but couldn't find any on the web, and if you mean to say driver's from Motorola's website, well, I have already tried those and they didn't work. Everything else works fine beside connecting to the PC, and the only way for me to transfer files from my iPhone is through SD Card which is a pain. I would appreciate it if you direct me to the right place to download drivers manually.
Any clues why a phone would show up under adb devices when connected in normal mode, but not show up when in fastboot? I really wanna unlock my phone...

This is the problem !
The thing is I got the phone with that OS installed on it. That is why I was wondering if i can reflash it to verizon firmware and if i do that will i still maintain my unlock. Also I know how to mess around with iPhones but no clue what how to do it with androids. So any help in right direction or if it is possible to flash it to verizon firmware would be helpful.
It can't be done, it can be done? something of a reply would be nicer than pure silence.
dude, what are you trying to unlock? bootloader or network? I believe flashing whatever u want will NOT impact either:good:
Sorry didn't follow your query
OK so this is what I'm trying to do... I got the phone with above firmware as mentioned in my first post. I can't connect to the PC using the USB and I believe its because of the jelly bean version I got. So I am trying to reinstall a different version of jelly bean. My phone is from Verizon and I was thinking of installing Verizon's version of jelly bean and was wondering how can I do that and if I end up installing Verizon's jelly bean would that effect my unlock.
flashing verizon will NOT make you lose network unlock. So flash away, try another micro usb cable if you have one laying around, just in case.
JB wont screw up pc detecting the MOTO.
when yout MOTO is plugged in, gointo device manager and see if it is showing under portable device, just to make sure the driver is properly installed

Thanks for the confirmation. Now my only problem is how exactly I do a flash to Verizon's JB. I'm not a computer noob its just I am android noob. For years I was on iPhone and I know how to do stuff on that but not On android... Also I have tried changing 4 different cables three Motorola ones and one from different company and I have tired 4 or 5 different computers as well. The problem is the drivers don't get installed I have downloaded the stuff from Motorola's website and it still doesn't work.
So my question is what is the procedure to flash my firmware to Verizon's firmware. Is there a really good guide out there? I know people will say go search for one but I just wanted to ask the community first so that I don't end up finding a bad guide on my own and brick my phone.

Ok first of all..always remember search button is your friend..you wouldn't need to post also if you search once.
ok now second, dont worry your phone is not dead and its very much possible to revive it. Ok start from here http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-S7560M.
I wont tell you how to flash from Odin as you can easily search here and there are several tutorials here on that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189539
Important thing to keep in mind is this. Don't cross flash a rom not meant for your phone. and even if u do make sure you dont overwrite the bootloader or preloader of your phone. As long as your phone will get detected by usb, your phone can be revived.
happy flashing

But I try first change the recovery since there was some problems with recovery. So change to other version of CWM or TWRP or something else. I flash through CWM some recovery zip file and after that the telephone became completely dead. No any signs of life at all. Trying buttons for download mode and recovery mode, removing and put battery back, nothing at all, no signs of any life. Please tell me there is any way to resurrect the phone? To bring back to life? It is not my phone. I wish I could give back living phone not a dead phone. Hope to hear any help from you. Thank you,
TLDR: LGUP will just straight up not recognize my G5 no matter what. I'll give you five bucks on Paypal for a solution, if that means anything.

Hi guys, I try to avoid posting, but I've searched high and low for an answer and I really can't find it.
I've got a T-Mobile LG G5 H830, that I have recently rooted and installed TWRP on it. Last night, I decided to try changing a value in build.prop, stupidly without making a backup first and after I changed the value and rebooted, stuck at T-Mobile bootscreen, go figure. All I did was change a value from false to true for adoptable storage..
Anyway-- I tried factory resetting, I tried flashing that FLUENCE rom I found somewhere here on XDA, I've tried just about every thing I could, before I gave up and decided it would be easier to just revert back to stock and unroot. I wasn't really utilizing root for more than Titanium Backup anyway.
To the point; I've got the LG UP program installed, I've got the DLL for it installed and inserted, and the appropriate .tot file to flash it back to factory default. No matter what I do, no matter how many different COM ports I try, different drivers I've tried etc, I cannot get it to read my phone in download mode. ADB mode works in TWRP still, but this is driving me insane. The only other phone I have is a busted up BlackBerry Priv, and I want this phone working again asap.
If someone can shed some light on whatever the hell I'm doing wrong, it would mean the world to me.
Please.
P.S: yes I've tried just about every USB port on my computer, and I've tried restarting Windows many times.
you have tried jiggling it?
You know what? Hell, if someone finds me a working solution to my problem, I will personally paypal them five dollars. I just want this fixed. I've had LG G3s brick on me obnoxiously and then never come back from it, I don't know what it is about LG phones.. Samsung phones, Nexus phones, and basically any other Android phones I've worked on aren't nearly this hard to restore and repair.

Use the twrp restore file in the development thread it will revert your build prop back, and from there your phone will work again. Editing build prop is not advised on the H830 has been discussed on numerous threads even before root was established. At least it's only a soft brick .
Have you tried jiggling it perhaps?
so did @wolfu11 get the 5 bucks? his solution should have fixed it.

Not holding my breath lol. That's why I declined any of the root bounty.
Try manually pointing to either the lg drivers, or adb drivers had that same problem when trying to root H830.
Sent from my LG-H830 using XDA-Developers mobile app
IDK if u fixed it or not, but i have a simular issue where LGUP does not recognize my phone. i'm guessing it could be the buildprop could have broken it. i have factory reset my phone, but upon turning on wifi, the phone crashes and i need to factory reset. i am rooted and retain root. My guess is that changing the buildprop causes the phone to be unrecognized. I did backup my buildprop but its stuck in an encrypted backup. Thanks alot gooogle...
Same problem here
I am having the same problem but I never touched my build prop. I rooted and decided to install cm14. When i flashed, none of my partitions are mounting and phone would not boot. I put stock back on and flashed tot and tried mounting partitions and nothing. Now computer doesn't recognize it as well as it will not boot into recovery or android.
I have seen this and I think I fixed it by disabling one of the two, in device manager. 1st listed, iirc.
