I am new to nexus s.
I have been reading that there two types of screens available for the nexus s.
By the serial number or model number, can I be able to tell which one is on my nexus s?
Which screen model is the better one?
Thanks
Heeter

There are two yes.
S-LCD and AMOLED.
S-LCD is the most common, found on all the HTC Devices and so on. AMOLED uses some fancy technology and makes colours more vibrant and blacks black, not a tinted grey. I think the general consensus is that AMOLED is better. I'm not one to ask though, as I've only used S-LCD.
One thing, AMOLED versions are more expensive.

Hey, guys.
Thanks for your detailed responses.
So I checked the back of my phone.
The model number is : GT-I9020A
That would be a SAMOLED, correct?

I don't think even the Galaxy S 4G would be an even trade for the myTouch 4G.
Maybe only a Nexus S I would consider for an even trade. But that's still iffy.

No Samsung PR lies and broken promises.
Your offer is definitely not an even trade. I owned a Vibrant. To be fair, the things Vibrant has over mt4g are the ability to video-out through the headphone jack and the camera hardware is better, although the lack of a dedicated button made picture taking a hassle. The samoled screen quality is pretty nice too. That's it.

Yea. the SGS screen is AMAZING. a good friend of mine has the SGS via ATT and the screen is seriously the only draw to that device.
Ouch my pride...haha

Yup, for Samsux it is but if I'm paying 500.00 buck full retail i expect it to be working out of the box. Imagine if regular people who don't know how to fix it.

had a vibrant for 3 months from the day it came out, was very love/mostly hate relationship...i think the only reason i delt with it so long was because I had other distractions at the time in my life...mt4g much better phone
Now if you had a black mytouch and wanted a white one, I'd do it

why would I change?
I'll probably consider, once HTC starts rolling dual/quad-core proc's

Hey anyone else find that the sensation is faster with a lower resolution due to it not having to redraw/upscale apps?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
didnt even know that was possible, is that what you have done? and if so how?
Not possible afaik
I used a free resolution changer from the market place
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
Though it does make some from of the native app/programs look funny - so there's definitely a trade off there
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Tapatalk
You guys can try this. I haven't tried it since I'm not rooted yet.
After changing resolution go into spare parts, unchecked compatibility mode, reboot.....and apps will appear correctly
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
That negates the whole point of having a nice qHD resolution screen.
Not possible afaik
Will give it a try
Reason why I went with this phone is b/c of the higher res.

Why buy this phone and then change the one thing that makes it so special?
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Can we safely assume he changed his density and not his resolution?
Our resolutions rock a lower density. I love my insanely small text that is super clear!
Something interesting when you change the density to 200 and load up the new market in landscape mode. Looks and works just like my Xooms market. I can't wait for ICS!

Hi I don't got the lcd any more ;/ but is there any way i can find out if i should use a amoled or slcd? Thanks in advance .D
There is no amoled desire s. But to find out just look at the blacks. Amoleds produce really deep blacks and slcd look quite washed out in comparison

Okay so i can just buy any desire s lcd screen? Btw i don't got the lcd so i can't check on my lcd.: (
If you have a cracked screen then all you need is a digitizer but whatever you need to do, there is no variation in screen types on the desire s

Pretty sure the tablet is only 1.3ghz. Plus, that model number (PM63100) is right in line with how they label their phones. The OG EVO was the PC36100.

hey there, i'm looking for a new phone, i only want to spend in between €100/€210, are there any good smartphones in that price range, i was thinking about the HTC HD2, but i dont know if thats a good choice, and i have the galaxy s1.
thanks for your time

What do you want in the phone?
Camera, front facing? CPU? Screen size? Good development? Etc...
Mainly, I'm also wondering off contract or on contract... and new or used?
The HD2 is not a bump specs wise from your Galaxy S, but it has amazing development. It can run WM6.5, WP7, Android 4.0, MeeGo, and something else too I forgot.

i want something that has a bigger screen, and camera doenst bother me that much, i never take picrures
i really want a faster phone with more ram, or a dual core. the reason for the HD2 was the big screen and the huge development for it

Ok then I'll warn you, the HD2 is not that much faster.
I still need to know if you mind buying a used phone, and what country you live in.

i live in the netherlands, and i dont mind buying a used phone, if it works and everything is fine, its good , do you have any more suggestions?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
OK well... I don't know much about availability of phones in countries outside the US... but there are definitely some worthy upgrades in that range (in USD its 122-250).
I can offer a big list of used phones in that price range, but I don't know if the sellers on eBay ship to the Netherlands. Hmm.
Sent from my MB508 using xda premium
there are loads of phones here, but not second handed, so theyre all really expensive, and i could get one from ebay :3
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Here are the phones in that price range, used on eBay. The problem is, I don't know about availability in the Netherlands.
Motorola Atrix 4G
Motorola Atrix 2
Samsung Captivate Glide
LG Thrill 4G
LG G2X (Optimus 2X)
LG Nitro HD
HTC Sensation
HTC Mytouch 4G Slide
And the single core phones that are upgrades from the Galaxy S
HTC Inspire 4G (Desire HD)
Samsung Infuse 4G
I also went onto the eBay app using the Netherlands country code, and I found some used GS2s slightly above €210, but they still had an hour or so on them so they were bound to go higher.

thanks alot, i think i'll go for the htc sensation, and again, thanks for the help

The HTC HD2 is great if you are interested in ROMs, dual booting, modding, etc. Otherwise, the Sensation is the best overall in that price range. The HTC HD2 will last at least a year due to the huge dev community but the Sensation is vastly better on specs.
Get the galaxy s3. It is an amazing phone. I loved my gs2. And this is like a hdtv compared to a b&w white one. I love all the features and the screen size. Check it out when u have time
