this is a "must" for any of my devices
Reader; gReader Pro
Calendar; CalenGoo
Launcher; ADWLauncher EX
XDA; XDA Premium (of course)
Twitter; Seesmic
Keyboard; Smart Keyboard Pro
File Manager / Explorer; Root Explorer
Android Automation; Tasker (easily the most amazing Android application)
System Info / Management; SystemPanel
Messaging; Handcent SMS
Honorable mentions;
Dropbox
Google Chrome to Phone
SportsTap
Rainy Days
Google Docs
LCD Density Changer (can be done without app use - but easy and simple)
I find the above to be 'essential' applications, while also being extremely stable. I hate me some buggy apps. The above should work without issue.
Here here for Tasker and CalenGoo. Haven't tried GREaderPro, but have checked others. Might have to do so.
keep em coming folks,. always looking for app suggestions
Hey all, new to the forum and the Android world so far. I'm loving my Inspire 4G. Coming from ios, the options in the android market were at first a disappointment. But I'll try out some of these suggestions.

CalenGoo was originally an iOS app and seems to have made the transition quite nicely. Widgets need a bit of work. For a calendar app with Google calendar functionality, I have yet to find an equal.
And if you're a 'reader' like me, who gets most of their info from tons of feeds, than gReaderPro is the perfect app. Have tried most of them and this is easily the most stable and well balanced one out.
ADWLauncher EX is also a great alternative launcher to check out. Smooth and full of options.
Google Docs is also key, perfect and lite.
Seesmic for lite Twitter users is nice, as well.

No prob! I've been using it for a bit and am still amazed at the quality and overall simplicity of the app.
Shoot me, just found out about this one and its amazing.
TicTacToe... In the market. This app is not your childhood game but instead a brilliantly hidden browser to be used for viewing certain things. FTW
FakeFirefox - Simply a shortcut to the stock browser with a FF icon
MortPlayer Music + Widget - Great little music player that sorts songs by folder rather than artist/album etc. A little tip is to put the album cover in each folder under Folder.jpg
Quickboot - Lets you create shortcuts to bootloader, reboot and recovery for one click access.
Bloo - Facebook replacement which has an awesome notification system that flashes blue with the newer CM releases
Tallybee
The program is very simple, but the idea is very neat.
Connectoo. Fun game!
bTunes Music Player (includes widget) - ever wanted to show off to your iPhone friends? Make them surprised when you show them that you, an Android user, can have the same UI/functionality of the iPhone's music player with just one download of an app.

Midomi SoundHound - What's that song? Hear it and identify it FAST with SoundHound - just hold your phone up to a speaker, and SoundHound names the tune in as little as five seconds! It even works if you sing or hum the melody.
TorrentFu - Great if you do alot of torrenting like i do. Not only can you monitor your torrents on your home PC, you can scan barcodes, or search for items, and have the torrent sent and downloaded on your home PC (Barcode scanner integrated).
Handcent (NEW) - By far, the best SMS/MMS app on the market. blows the stock MMS to shreds.
OurGroceries - Not just your everyday Grocery/List manager. SYNC in real-time with your spouses (or whomever) phone, cross sync with iPhone users. Allows you to enter (or delete) items to/from your list, and in real time, your spouse (or whoever) will see the changes.
My Tracks - GREAT for hikers/bikers. Track, map, and get stats for your hiking/biking trips.
Surveyor - GREAT measuring tool. This is one that few will have a need for, but those that need, don't know this exists, and is GREAT.
TuneWiki - My personal favorite for playing local (SD) music, as well as shoutcast.
and you cant leave out Pandora. Just a great personalized radio. Once you get some artists setup into your station, it really does tune to what you like. Another one of those you gotta really try it before you pass judgment.
SubSonic is a GREAT program to easily stream your music from your PC to your phone. It even has an offline option to play music you downloaded later without a data connection. The server on your PC is incredibly light and doesn't drag on system resources like all other server programs I've ever used before. Now I can easily browse through and enjoy my 450GB music collection from nearly anywhere on the go!
Excellent idea for this thread btw.
My app suggestion is Twicca, an incredibly full function yet light and appealing GUI for twitter.

How does that compare to Shazam? Sounds like it does basically the same job so I wondered if you'd tried both?
For UK users I quite like ASBOrometer. It gives your current location a rating based on the level of anti-social behaviour! Based on official government stats.
Google Sky Map is awesome on the Nexus as well. Gives you a full mapping of the stars with their names and constellations using gps, compass and accelerometer so you can point it at the stars above you and see what they are. Really cool
Personally ChompSMS is my favorite SMS app, but my recommendation is definitely Screebl Pro, detects when your phone isn't at a level that is classified as laying down on a bench or something, and keeps your phone's screen on until the phones sensor detects it's been placed down or something. Fully customization, and saves battery life, because you can set your screen timeout to the lowest with this app enabled.
Slacker Radio.
Some essentials in my sig but also I recommend:
AdFree (€0) - I don't need to see another religious ad
aiSystemWidget (€€) - Great stats widget and even better app including history
AppBrain (€0) - Just started using it but I love the recommendations
Apps Organizer (€0) - Awesome for sorting apps into folders
AutoKiller (€0) - Set and forget memory management
Better Cut (€€) - Give yourself the desktop you want
Dolphin Browser (€0) - Still the fastest and most functional browser IMHO
ES File Explorer (€0) - Should be mandatory for root users, best file manager there is
Mini Info (€0) - Another great stats widget
NewsRoom (€€) - Best RSS reader out there
MyBackupPro (€€) - Now supports apk backups and system data backups
QuickBoot (€0) - Reboot, Recovery or Bootloader all with one click
Settings Profiles (€€) - Fun, functional but still deciding on whether it's essential
ShootMe (€0) - Screen caps
Wallpaper Set & Save (€0) - Great for hi resolution wall papers
Pure Music Widget (€€) - Pure
Beautiful Widgets (€€) - Beautiful
And there are others but this is the 'pack' that I install immediately after any flash.
And perhaps not necessary for this thread but here you go anyway:
I'm just curious to see what everyone thinks are the must have apps for their EVO.
So what are some of your favorite apps? Any you use everyday without fail? (Dailer? )
Also talk about the app, what does it do that makes it so cool? Your experiences?

My two cents for apps is
- App brain: This allows you to keep track and maintain a list of your "killer apps"
I prefer SlideIT over swype.
Setcpu
Titanium backup
Launchx pro
Folder organizer
Fring
Touiteur
Beautiful widgets
Cache cleaner
Extended controls
Isyncr
HTC Evo
ROM: Cyanogen Nightlies
Tasker App
The tasker app as seen on lifehacker.com. It's an app that allows you to run tasks on your phone automatically. For example, you can set it up so it turns the gps on and off anytime you run a gps based program. Or even set it to locations like, turns on the wifi when your at home. Check out the post on lifehacker. It'll explain it better.
Swype - keyboard
adw.launcher - to replace sense
Digital Clock Widget -because i dont use sense
ES Security Mgr - provides basic app level security
Evernote - sync notes
Hypotoad - because he is a demigod
handcent - not as needed on cm6
Glympse - prevents that 'are you almost here yet' phone call
Meebo - i exist on 7 instant messenger networks simulaneously
QuickDesk - a desktop full of shortcuts that you can pull up over running apps
RingsExtended - makes it easier to select any mp3 i choose
ShootMe - take screenshots
SmartShortcuts - consolidate icons by grouping them
VPNConnections - this does vpn connections
WYSE - do you need to VNC/RDC/VMWare
SwitchPro - control panel kinda thing
google voice - virutalize your phone number
appbrain - makes it easy to share favorite apps with folks
AudioManager Pro - Gives me full control over volume settings that is quickly accessible. Great for moments of unexpected media audio when I'm stealthily web browsing at work.
Advanced Task Manager - Less useful since Froyo, but great for seeing how much more memory I have now.
QuickDesk - Brilliant little app that lets you access up to twenty shortcuts or widgets without leaving whatever program you're using.
KeePassDroid - Very functional password manager with easy options to copy passwords or user names to the clipboard.
Handcent - SMS replacement, very powerful, makes it much easier to read conversations.
StopWatch - Streamlined timer with a countdown option. Time is displayed on the taskbar which makes it reallyreally easy to tell how much time is left on my breaks.
one of my favorite that i dont think many people know about is Tunee Music...check it out. I use it every day

APP QUARANTINE is a tool to freeze unwanted apps. It does not only allow you to disable any
pre-installed bloatware, but is also able to have your apps only available when you need them.
Therefore you can also use home screen widgets to quickly toggle without even launching the app.
App Quarantine works on all Android devices with Android 2.2 and later (up to version 1.28).
The new version (1.29 and later) will only work on Android 4.0 and later.
The app is 100% free, no ads, no malicious advertising scams

Features of App Quarantine PRO:
- toggle multiple apps at once, from the app or from home screen widgets
- toggle apps from notifications (Android 4.1+ only)
- Quarantine drawer
- Password protection
App Quarantine PRO works on all Android devices with Android 2.2 and later (up to version 2.8).
The new version (2.9 and later) will only work on Android 4.0 and later.
Newest feature in beta version:
The brand new Quarantine drawer is like the app drawer of your launcher but allows to launch disabled apps instantly. The Quarantine drawer only shows quarantined apps, but you can hide apps which you never need at all. Furthermore there's a "Favorites" screen which shows the apps you need more frequently, no matter if they are currently in Quarantine or not.
The Quarantine drawer can be launched in different ways:
- By an icon from your home screen
- By using activities from a 3rd party launcher (e.g. Nova or Apex)
- By using the Google Now gesture (*)
(*) Works fine on Nexus phones. If you have a Samsung, HTC etc. with hard keys it might work different, or not at all.

Update: apps are re-quarantined after being updated. Possible with either automatic or interactive mode.
How does it work?

Hi

good app.
thanks.
Looked but couldn't find. What are the must have apps and games for you guys? Post in a similar fashion so we can all know what you're talking about. I'll go first.
APPS:
ES File Explorer - File explorer. It's decent, haven't had problems with it.
GTunes - Download music straight to your phone. Used to be on the marketplace, can't find it now. Google is your friend.
MixFM Cyprus - Streaming MixFM Cyprus. They have a few famous reseident DJs and their program sh*ts on any US station that I can find. Give it a try if you want, my friends are hooked.
Pandora - needs no explanation.
SoundHound - It's like Shazam but I like the interface more. Recognizes music tracks through the mic.
GAMES:
9MM HD - It's an action game with insane graphics and decent story. Reminds me of GTA, it's pricey but worth it if you're into this kind of stuff.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azIYhb4XkpQ
GTA3 - They actually managed to get the full game working on Android, and it works like a charm on the Sensation. If I could have one game only, this would be it, no doubt.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtbUORusNvo
Modern Combat 3 - First person shooter, think Battlefield/COD. Really good graphics, decent story and controls. You won't believe it's running on a phone when you see the opening scene.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdF0EvDwH-Y
Real Racing 2 - If you are a fan of Forza or Gran Turismo, get this asap.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kl_9Y3e0m0
APPs:
-sorry bro, but have you ever tried "DI Radio"? that sh*ts on any streaming music APP. Wide variety of music, for free, you can listen all day.
-"n7player", cool music app...i used to use powerAMP but now i switched to this. it has a sweet looking widget that suits my layout just well. for who cares about bass boost, it's there, just like powerAMP.
-"Swiftkey X", made my typing experience hella easier.
-I like "BIG! caller ID", better than the standard caller ID screen.
-"NotifierPro Plus" gives a sweet windowsphone 7 like notifications for most of emails, messaging, social network apps, it slides down from the status bar, gentle and informative.
-"Color Note" is a must for me, has the nicest note widget i've tried.
-"Brilliant Quotes", nothing better for inspiration and knowledge. can be set as a widget, i personally use it on my lockscreen using widget lockscreen.
-"Boot Manager" to boot ROMs from my SD card, good way to try out new ROMs without the hassle of backing everything up, and probably want to go back to my previous ROM. works on the sensation
-"greader pro" everything i need to know, right there.
-i use "WeatherFlow" for my weather updates and information, looks nice and different.
-Best alternative launcher, "Apex launcher".
GAMES:
-"Canabalt HD", it has the rush that makes me keep on playing, super best with good quality headphones on.
-"cut the rope experiments", i just never get bored of this game.
-"iStunt2", it's so much fun, try it.
-"Riptide GP", i wish we could get the effects the version for the ONE X has, but still pretty good.
-waiting for "DarkMeadow"
Try Audio Manager instead of Pandora.
..
APPS:
2xclient for pc terminal connection (remote desktop) - it's very good and free!
antutu benchmark - for testing roms, sd card speed
battery monitor widget - great tool for battery monitoring, it's worth its price
es file explorer - best free file explorer (ftp, dropbox, lan supoort)
ezpdfreader - the best pdf reader!
gentle alarm - very good, gentle alarm
imdb
ivona TTS - natural voice, it's beta and free for now
my tracks
premote droid - remote control for your pc via bluetooth or wifi (need daemon on pc)
system tuner pro - complete tool for rooted device. it can do almost everyting! worth every penny
tapatalk - great forum app
GAMEZ:
steam birds - good gfx and music
spirit HD - innovative action game with beautiful graphics
osmos
Have you tried the game Cytus? It's a rhythm game and I think it's pretty fun. Nothing like the usual kind.

Also dead space, Skype, and rage reader for entertainment.
For system/dev stuff I like
Droid wall - firewall for your phone
Root explorer
System tuner
Root uninstaller pro - system app uninstaller.
Sdmaid - bit like system tuner but does sdcard as well.
And phone overheat- alarms when battery is reaching critical levels.

DESCRIPTIONLucid Browser is a free and open source web browser designed to be small, light, fast, and simple. The app itself is as small as about 4 MB, and the Donate version is only about 2 MB. The browser uses a custom homepage that loads locally for quick start-ups. Although it is small in size, it packs a punch with all the features you would normally see in a mobile browser. For example, you can import bookmarks from other browsers that use file formats of HTML or JSON. The browser also allows for complete management of bookmarks with folder categorization. By default, Lucid Browser uses Ecosia, a project designed to help plant trees. Lucid Browser also comes with many settings and ways to personalize the look. It is easy to use, very handy, and allows you to surf the net with speed.

It was a major useful feature of the laucher.

It's light-weight so it means:
-it won't consume as much RAM as bigger browsers does
-work fast because there are not many elements to load so that CPU can focus on page loading
needs to handle revoked certs
It should not show this page
https://revoked.grc.com.
But it does. You could be among the first to offer secure browser for Android.
Awesome browser man, keep it up.
I'd like to ask if it's possible to add an option to autohide the action bar during navigaton as well as adding the option to display the most visited sites when typing an adress?
A few in the play store have mentioned it in reviews, but the ability to close the browser would be optimal. Currently the only way to get back to the home screen is the home button on my phone. I assume this is intentional, but for full browser replacement on android for me I need a way to exit the program even if it becomes an advanced option in the settings menu. Otherwise very lightweight and intuitive to use and I really like it.
ability to close the app, would be necessary for me too. Otherwise definitely what I need in a browser ???

Amazing... Keep it up.
I would prefer holding the back button to close the browser - or ideally options for making holding do this of course.
I realise this is probably a big ask but Lastpass integration would be nice as well. It pains me and my phone battery that Dolphin (and possibly Firefox ...?) are the only browsers to offer this.
Lovely app BTW, thanks for all the hard work.
Looks good but a couple of feature request.
-Ability to close the app.
-Setting a blank home page
-clearing cache, browsing history, cookies etc when exiting.
Also, swype(keyboard) doesn't show a ".com" on the keyboard which usually works with all browsers. Please check that.
Thanks
Great Browser!
