Hey guys, I've heard a lot about this Amazon App Store, but I don't seem to really understand its purpose. There's already Android Market, which has all the apps available, why would there be another app store, with less apps? And another thing that I can't think of, is why did Google allow Amazon to have this app store? Aren't they losing money with it? The more they sell through the Android Market, more money they make!
Who cares what the purpose is; they give you free PREMIUM apps!!

bcnice kernal
htc ime mod by gimpsta
Thing is it is not available in my Coun, that's why I don't get its purpose.
How does Google allow such thing?
And do the Apps that I get through Amazon incorporate in my Androird Makert (allowing me to download them like apps I have bought there or not?)
I truly believe Google cares very little about app sale residuals in the long run. They care more about ensuring that there is an abundance of ways to make Android more accessible to more people.
Having a competing, authorized app store underwritten by a successful online merchant is a good move, I think.
In the end, it all boils to advertising dollars for Google.

Amazon App Store. Great for the end users, absolutely terrible for the small developer.
I've had bad experiences with the Amazon Marketplace and refuse to use it now. They rejected one of my apps because it is not compatible with 3 specific manufacturers (HTC, Samsung, or Droid [I assume they mean Motorola]), The one app they DID accept took well over 2 weeks to be accepted, download details are STILL not available (been 13 days since it was accepted) and they take the same cut as the Google Marketplace whilst also charging you $100 a year.
I don't see the point tbh

What makes you think that Google has any authority to stop it?
Did you not hear the guy above, free premium apps. i just got zenonia 2 free today, and andry birds was free a few days ago. i mean the android market is good and all but i think amazon is much better. Also i like the layout of amazon better, i think its more user friendly. I mean the current version of android market is ok, but its a big waste of space.
When you buy something through Amazon, does it get linked to your Google account, allowing you to acess it from the Android Market?

No, it is separate. If you bought it from Amazon, it won't show as bought in the Android Marketplace. I wish that would change, to at least recognize it is installed.

No. It gets linked to your Amazon account, allowing you to access it from the Amazon Appstore.
Well, as a user out of the US, it's pretty much rules a huge majority out. I tried using it with a fake account to try out the free premium app
http://abtevrythng.blogspot.com/2011/03/how-to-use-amazon-app-store-outside-us.html#axzz1HtVzxyUa
But the premium apps stopped working after a day. So I dropped it all together
I decided to give a shot this morning to see the feasibility of switching from Google Android Market to Amazon AppStore as I like the idea of a more independent app store. I first discovered (not surprisingly) that the Google apps aren't there neither are a lot of other popular applications I have been using. In addition I was surprised to see the number of applications which have older versions in Amazon Appstore. Google Market kept giving notifications of upgrades available for applications installed from Amazon. It's unfortunate they are lagging behind but I bet it picks up in the future.
I wouldn't switch. It's not a replacement, but rather it's complimentary. Maybe you'd use both, but I wouldn't use one or the other exclusively (at least not Amazon's). I like the layout of the Amazon app store better, and the free premium apps are great. Having the links on my Amazon account and able to be sent to any device is great, of course (though that's similar to the Google marketplace)! The biggest deal breaker for me is that it doesn't have smooth app updating like the Google marketplace does, so if you have a ton of apps like I do on my tablet, you have to authorize the permissions again on every single update being installed.
Hope can I download these please? Is there a way around not being in the US?
Thanks

Don't think so.. i want swiftkey x for free though.. damn US -.-
Hope that it'll come to Germany soon aswell... Anyway it's not that costumer friendly policy Amazon should go towards...
I think it's similar to the AmAzon mp3 service, they allow free storage of music on the cloud over there, but here in the uk, you don't get that priillage and although you may be able to manually install the amazon app store, it's impossible to install apps due to the country limitations coming from your amazon account believe, as I have tried myself and it won't work, maybe searching google for the app's .apk file name may get what you want by other means.
For now the store is only open in US..
As far as I understand they have plans to open the store in other countries too..
We just have to wait
I believe there is a workaround for this, unfortunately the forum where I read about it is currently down. I'll look into it.
I remember trying to get Angry Birds Rio when the appstore had judt opened. I was so sad when I realised it was US only. It then came out on Android marketplace and then I was filled with joy!
I saw a thread that someone had removed the ads from the ad free versions of angry birds. ab: seasons.
I was wondering if it is possible to remove the check or verification that some apps do, specifically with the amazon app store. i want angry birds rio, plants vs. zombies and peggle...but Im curious as to whether or not the check can be removed so that the amazon app store can be removed from the device.
thanks!
You only got those apps free as they are tied to the Amazon app store via promotion. If you want those apps to be non Amazon dependant pay for them in the Android market. The developers work hard making apps that you either should pay for or they provide them for free to you because the ads pay for it. You wonder why the Android market will never be as good as the Apple Appstore? Its because of cheapskates trying to cheat the system so the developers don't end up getting paid. Who wants to develop apps for a market that doesn't make them money?

I want the apps I bought to run without needing the amazon app store installed.. not looking for free products. apple appstore is NOT better than the market as the market is not better than the appstore...pirates exist in every community.
Trust me, I spent a lot of money last night on apps I want to be independent of amazon but there are four or so that aren't on the market. I also buy apps that I won't even use solely to support the dev...latest example would be hidden lock pro by marinelli.tv, I'll never use it but I bought it cause its a cool app and to support xda devs.

I apologize for jumping on you if you truly are paying for the apps. Its just there are countless people who come here asking to do the same and their intentions are clearly to cheat the system.
If you wanted apps independent of the Amazon App store then you shouldnt have purchased them from there. You should have known they would be tied to the store you bought them from(was one of the biggest complaints about the Amazon App Store BTW)....... And yes, Apples App store is far better than Android Market when it comes to developers making money.

Well the times I wanna play games and such the most are the rare times I have no service. It happened the other night, so I was seeking a solution. I think it's silly that we have to be signed in to the amazon app store to use the apps. What of gps apps?
No big deal but I wanna see amazon lose exclusivity on some titles.

An Amazon appstore drm token is good for one month. The apps will work offline. They only need to access the internet to get a new token after it has expired. If you want to force the token to refresh, set the system date to more than a month in the future and open the app. Not all of their paid apps are drm'ed, though. It's up to the individual developer.

If any of you have talked to Dave Beebe about his Mobeam technology and partnership with Samsung to include it in the Galaxy S4, you probably also got this E-mail today:
I’m pleased to announce that OmniBeam, the first app to include mobeam’s patented beaming technology, is now available for free download from Google Play..
Discover coupons from the brands you love and store all of your loyalty, membership and gift cards in your Samsung Galaxy S4.
Using mobeam’s patented beaming technology, OmniBeam lets you use your phone to redeem coupons, provide your loyalty/membership details –even pay for your purchase using a gift card, – regardless of what type of scanner your favorite retailer uses. OmniBeam uses a light on your phone to “beam” the black-and-white pattern of a barcode directly into the scanner. Simply select your card, push the Beam button and point your phone’s screen at the scanner. Now you really can leave all those plastic cards and key tags at home!
Save money on your groceries too! OmniBeam includes SavingStar’s digital grocery coupons from top brands – redeemable at over 24,000 locations around the US. Simply “clip” the coupons in OmniBeam, then watch the savings add up when you use your loyalty card. The money you save can be deposited directly to your bank account, added to a PayPal account, or sent to you as an Amazon gift card.
Welcome to mobeam!

Hi folks,
I thought I'd clear the air a bit about why some S4 users are unable to download and use the app. Unfortunately, due to restrictions surrounding the the coupon content included in the app, we must limit distribution to the US only. That said, we are working diligently on an app without the coupon content (at least initially), that will be available for worldwide use. We hope to have that app available in the coming weeks!
We appreciate your input and look forward to counting you all among the growing number of happy beamers.

Thanks for clearing that up and keeping us up to the date. I've also just tried out the app today, and it's been fantastic as far as adding some physical cards I have. I'll try it at the store tomorrow and play with it a bit more and then give a review.

First of all I'm new here and sorry if i'm posting in wrong spot, now second:
i'm kind of angry about google, because they are not supporting paid apps and stuff like movies music and books in my country and i don't get why
like a year ago, we got official support from paypal, so now we can create accounts and actively pay with it, but google is so dumb that i can't even download app for paypal, i can't download anything that has in app purchases or has price. in past, yes we couldn't really pay for anything on google play but now we can with paypal and it dissapoints me, why they are not letting us buy things? (sorry for english i'm georgian)
Google needs to get approval from a country's government, media authority, copyright organisation and register with the chamber of commerce in every single country individually.
And in every single country, someone always objects. Usually a group of retail shops that sell the same product.
This isn't Google holding out on you. It's your own country doing so.
