Can I stream music via the new Music Beta app to my Xoom when it's tethered to my phone via Bluetooth?
I received my Google Music Beta invite this morning. Yippee!! I went through the set-up and all seemed to be working well...
I have a HTC Desire phone and a US WiFi-only Xoom. The music app works perfectly on the desire, and streams nicely over my 3g data connection. (There is an option on the phone Music app "Stream music via Wi-Fi only", I obviously had to uncheck this option to get it to work over 3g.
Now for the problem...
As I have a WiFi-Only Xoom, I tether it to my phone via Bluetooth for a data connection. I've been doing this ever since I got it and it works flawlessly. Every application I've tried (browser, market, honestly any web-connected app) works perfectly using this connection. But for some reason, the new Music player will not stream music over this data connection?!
It updates the library and populates it with all the new songs, but if I choose to play a song it displays,
"You can't stream music because you're not connected to a data network".
Additionally, in the settings, there is no such option to "Stream music via Wi-Fi only"... it simply isn't there on the tablet as it is on the phone.
I've also tested having the Xoom connected to the Internet via WiFi, it plays and streams perfectly as it should. So it's just the fact that it's Bluetooth tethered to the Internet that it doesn't like... Why should it care?!?!?! I have heaps of 3g data to use, and it lets me on the phone!
This is rather annoying for me, because I use my Xoom extensively away from home and always have it tethered to my phone via Bluetooth for data. I would love to have this music service working.
Anyone in the same boat?
Any ideas???
Thanks in advance.
Nothing guys??
I've been using wifi to tether the phone to the xoom lately, which works, but it's a massive drain on battery, isn't as fast, and isn't as easy.
Anyone know of a fix?

I see, thanks for the link.
And it works without using US VPN?
I'm not sure why its not working for you when you're Bluetooth tethering. As for the "Stream music via wifi only"is there. Click the Menu icon in the top right (4 lines) and then Settings and then you'll get this screen with just what you're looking for.

***Edit*** just noticed you're on wifi only. Your Xoom is setup as wifi for your connection, therefore there's no reason to have that option... the setting is there incase you want to stream with 3G.
yeah that makes sense actually as to why that option doesn't appear.
I've added a screenshot below...
Youre not alone. I'm having the same issue. I wish I could find a fix for it too!
Same Issue
I just discovered this problem today on my Xoom Wifi. I tend to avoid adding to a thread that is over six months old, but I have found no other mentions of this after searching besides this.
Google music works perfectly over Wifi, but refuses to stream when PAN tethered via Bluetooth. It almost seems as if, though we do not have the option shown above "Stream Music via Wifi Only", that it is permanently checked and then hidden from us on the Wifi-only Xoom.
This really defeats much of the purpose of cloud access for this device. Any info would be appreciated, or even more info if it is a known bug. I'm quite surprised this hasn't been addressed if it has existed for so long, especially now that Music is out of Beta.

Hey guys,
Not sure if this exists, or if someone could point me to a product which does what I'm looking for. Basically, I want a device that will connect via Bluetooth to my HTC Uni, and use the remote control functions of AVRCP to allow me to pause/play/next/prev/etc. via this little remote control. I do NOT need the device to do A2DP, as I already hard-wire in the speakers.
I know there may not be much of a need, but I want this functionality for when I go snowboarding, and I keep my HTC Uni in my jacket pocket (in an aluminum case of course!). I already have headphones in my touque/hat, so they would be connected directly to my Uni, then I wanted a device that I could strap to my wrist or jacket which I could hit "next/prev track, etc."
I am thinking that without the A2DP streaming music, I might be able to save on battery, as the device would only be a "Bluetooth AVRCP Media Remote". I tried searching the net for the past 4 hours, but came up with nothing.
The only device that almost caught my attention was the Motorola S705 Bluetooth Soundpilot, but it has a headphone connection on it (I just want the AVRCP remote control functionality).
Now maybe I am dreaming, since I've never actually played with an A2DP/AVRCP device before, so I'm not even sure if the headset port on my Uni would become deactivated if an A2DP/AVRCP device were to connect with the phone.
EDIT: I've actually found a picture of the setup that I'm talking about from the official Bluetooth page:
(it's the 2nd pic, note the fine print: "* the audio stream is not handled in this profile"...what i need!)

It just refers to that you also need to have A2DP support. However, the two may not be separated - unless someone has managed to "hack" this.
If nothing else works, you might want to give a try to UPnP, along with a remote controllable player like Conduits Pocket Player. Note that it doesn't use AVRCP but UPnP and might only work via Wi-Fi (I haven't tested it over BT PAN).
See my UPnP Bible for more info.
Thanks for your reply Menneisyys,
Now I understand a bit more about how those technologies work, and although I wasn't in dire need of such a controller, I appreciate your information.
I do use CorePlayer, and I have heard that it supports AVRCP, but until I can get a controller-only piece of hardware, I probably won't keep looking into this (only to get my hopes up).
Wouldn't it be great though to have a small iPod-like device that could control your phone via BT? Think about the situations where you might have your phone wired to a nice speaker system, but are chilling outside. You wouldn't even have to aim the remote!
I am thinking too far outside of the box now though, and if I only had the means, time and most importantly, knowledge, to create such a device, I would be ALL over it!
Hopefully someone has read into this, and maybe we'll see such a device down the line....for now, it's more waiting time!

Works, but what's this business about a subscription? Seriously, I'll hang with youtube or dailymotion at the moment. I really don't think I need to be charged for mobile tv considering how much the carriers are taking it out of our asses with regular service and data. Not to mention sucking up my limit for the month and then running me into overages.

when at home or whenever possible .. jump on wifi .. when im at home i watch all kind of live streams on my nexus with wifi and plays smooth as butter ..
whether it be live streams of movies for channelsurf or nfl football, nba, or regular tv shows its all good...
since its over wifi doesn't affect your tmobile or whatever carrier u have data limit
Got it working on mine. It keeps asking for the subscription thing. Theres some decent free stuff on it, but most of it you need a subscription for. Cool app none the less, thanks.
this would just be perfect as someone mentioned before if it could be hacked, so it isn't a trial and is free.
took a little bit of playing around with but now its working great
Wont work on CyanogenMOD6 (Kang-0-rama v1.0)
BOOO!!! no tv app ever work
Well, I got it working on the mytouch 3G slide. The only problem is that the display is a little smaller, so some of it gets cut off. The live TV works just fine, and if I tap the video it centers it full screen... It still cuts a little off at the bottom (or some on the right side if it's not full screen)
Is there a way to shrink that down a bit so it doesn't get cut off?
installed> accepted trial> started watching limited TV on 3G. Its a good start.
i cant see the trial subscription page...am i the only one?
Hello guys, I'm new to the site and I just have 1 question (that I have googled for about 3 hours without success).
I just got my G2X and rooted it via superoneclick as soon as I got it. I am having problems with the wifi tethering and have read that tmobile has filtered tethering on plans without the plan but I refuse to believe that they would be able to filter 3rd party tethering apps. I have tried about 4 different third party apps and the stock program. They always send out a signal but cannot connect to anything (tried on 2 different laptops). Can someone shed some light on what's going on? any help is greatly appreciated.
I noticed to get the built in tether program working for my netbook I had to do an "ipconfig /release" then an "ipconfig /renew" from the command line after wifi had connected.
The wifi tethering program from the google code site worked out of the box but protection wouldn't work, and I had no desire to share my phone to the whole hotel
What do you mean protection doesn't work? Thr set password works fine for me

It would show two networks, one protected, one not, the protected one didn't work and anyone could connect to the unprotected one
I pay for tethering on one of my phones (mine) and am trying it now for the 1st time....very fast. Wouldn't connect at first then I let windows do a troubleshoot and it corrected the issue. Seems to work well. I've been having a lot of power failures this year so want to ensure my wife can have internet for her work.
But I think I've read that the providers can't prevent tethering apps from working. Haven't I heard they are preventing the tethering apps from being seen through their Market apps?
They may detect the extra usage though.

Hi
For the last two days i had a lot of issues with the G_Apps, everythings worked perfectly since before yesterdar, then:
> I couldn't enter in GTALK;
> the market purchases didn't download;
> new email didn't notify me neither appear...
I was trying to reconnect and reconnect... searched some possible solutions (wipe cache, clear data...) but nothing worked.
I had, all the time, internet over wifi, and i could go the the browser without issue in the navigation...
I realise then that the WIFI icon were not Blue (as usual) but Grey (see screenshot, some kind of limitations??) i don't know...
Today i did two HARD RESETS, with the first one it worked during sometime (the icon return to blue status) but i couldn't get into the market in the TF (but in my computer i could buy and was installed in my TF)... however sometime after the issue reappeared...
NOW: Grey icon, internet in the browser, no internet on the Gtalk, market, Gmail, Dropbox...
what should i do?

Blue WiFi bars mean that you're connected both to the Internet and Google services (e.g. Gmail), grey is just Internet - hence your lack of Gmail connectivity despite normal web browsing working (although it's odd that Dropbox also doesn't work in this scenario). Could you please provide some more info on your particular setup? Is your TF rooted (and if so what ROM/kernel are you running) or are you running on the same stuff you had in the box?
Suddenly having similar issues today. Bought the device last week and had no problems. Suddenly today no mail sync and market not working properly. I always get the message that i need to login in order to authenticate although I am logged in. Cant download anything. Hope it's an issue on Googles side. Having stock Rom and no changes.

Thank you.

I had this issue with my Transformer. I think it's the same one anyway.
If you can open Gmail, does your inbox show you having messeges, but the messeges not appear? If you then go to All Mail, are they there? For me they were, but tapped to open, they wouldn't display.
I'm sorry to say, only a factory reset fixed this issue for me. First appeared about two weeks after purchase, after the reset it's been just over a week and still going ok for me.
suddenly, it works...
i went out for a few hours and when i'd come back, the Gapps worked... the wifi icon is now blue again and it seems that everything is fine...
i didn't make a backup so now i must reinstall all apps due the previous hard resets...
Hey all!
So today I found this app which should let browse the web. The TinyWeb - which is the name - is nicely written and intuitive application with english menu and set of bookmarks from the beginning. Also it is a standalone app.

Seems awesome? Yes. BUT there is this little problem - it cannot access network for me. I tried using Gear S2 classic with connection to the phone (LTE) and without phone (Gear's WiFi). But it doesn't work.
Does it work for You?
I AM NOT THE AUTHOR OF THE APP NOR ADVERTISING IT
You have to disable bluetooth connection with wifi connection on. Works fine once you do that.
It works for me, but only with a direct Wifi connection (not trough the phone).
Same here. Seems like this may be related to that of below. Maybe Gear Manager for generic Android (not samsung) is missing the bluetooth / host-wifi bridge as there is no setting for it on my Xperia.

I get an error when trying to install.

Where do I find this? I don't see it in the play store.
@Firehead thanks for the tip! It does work now, cool
@mills23 it is in the Samsung's shop for Gear S2. Maybe not available for Your region or something.
I am using gear s2
And in it also tinyweb is not working on both Bluetooth and WiFi
Seems to only work with wifi on however I don't need to disable bluetooth but would be better if it did work via bluetooth hopefully in a future update. Also was a pain to log into Facebook, most of the time the keyboard popped up but then disappeared after like a second and the times it did stay up I'd type my email (which isn't a quick thing to do on the S2 keyboard) to find it didn't actually enter anything in the text box. Though finally did get myself logged in but then when I went to go on it later it didn't keep me logged in so still a few issues.
Also would like if when zoomed in I could pan right the way to the corners of the webpage.
It works on s2 gear 3g in 3g mode. I'm impressed with this app considering the limitations of the tiny circular screen.
Props to the dev!
I installed it on my gear and then someone try to login to my emails account and etc.. Maybe by brute force. I changed my password everywhere for sure. So be carefulle after instalation of this app.
Could someone made a video showing TinyWeb in action for other users please .
It works now with the BT version, connection, so no need to switch to wifi only.
Was able to read the news and go on facebook. No brute force so far.
TinyWeb is no longer in the app store, is it unsafe to use then?
Is there any place/way to get a copy of tinyweb?
