So we all know that SAMOLED screens use the least power when on a black screen. I have heard that depending on the LCD the power consumption can change based on the color being shown.
In short, if we wanted to prolong battery life while the screen was on, would it be best to display white background, black background, etc?

I've checked my power settings and based on them my backlight should shut off after 1 minute of non-use.
When my phone is idle, or when I lock it the screen light only dims but it is never shutting off completely! This has caused a dramatic shortage of battery life.
Any suggestions?

ThePeuJ has kindly made us a small simple torch app taking advantage of the ability of the service led to display a white light, currently the white led is not that bright but we think it can be brighter, as its been witnessed in service mode.
If you are able to induce service mode, please share how you do it, and if you have the white led in service mode, can you please do a simple test, shake your tg01, when you look at the led as you shake, do you see a white led, or red green and blue?
I can add to this that it is possible to reliably induce a pure white LED on the HD2 rom release 2 using this method, power on, then immediately hold down the camera button, about 5 seconds later you will have a blank screen with white led, this led is solid white, its not made up of red green and blue.
I have had my z3 for a couple months now. Yesterday the screen dimmed down significantly and will not brighten back up no matter what I do. I have turned of "Auto Adjust" and all that. I have manually increased the screen brightness to maximum and it does not thing. The current brightness is good enough for indoor use in a area with not much light, but in a bright room or outside I can barely tell what is on the screen. I have powered the phone off and restarted it several times. It's like it is stuck in some kind of battery saving mode that it won't come out of. I made sure that all battery saving modes are turned off. Nothing effects the screen brightness no matter what I do. Please help!

Does it happen in safe mode? (Long press power button, long press "power off" text, ok). If it doesn't, some app is responsible. Last resort would be to do a factory reset.
Just got 2 new s8+ phones and recently I've noticed when you hit the power button to turn the phone off it makes the background picture turn to grayscale for a few seconds before the screen goes black. I checked my wife's phone and hers stays in color and does like a side to middle fade as it turns off. Mine is different. Is there any way to change this? Has anyone ran into this before? It's not a big deal but it is kind of annoying at the moment. Thanks
UPDATE:
I managed to record when it's covering the whole screen. Please see that two added videos ("Extreme").
Well I guess it's time to report to Samsung.

Hi,
I managed to capture a strange screen flickering. In this video - just a small bar (and only visible when scrolling).
In all other cases - it covers the whole screen and the only way to get rid of it - turn off power saving mode (impossible if all screen is covered with this static) or connect to power supply.
This happens only when the Power saving is ON (in my case - automatically if battery goes below 25%).
Turn Power saving off and it goes away.
Any idea what's that?

Well.. it's hard to reproduce because it doesn't happen often. But yes.. I could run a test (standard + power saving).
I updated my OP. Please see the videos when it covers the whole screen.
