Alright so it's been a couple of weeks and anyone can see that the Nexus is casting a shadow over the new MyTouch so it's probably not going to get much attention from Cyanogen. We can still use his roms however we lose touchscreen support. Actually, we can use pretty much any rom as the old MT3G and G1 can use but we can't use the touchscreen.
What I've tried was pulling the /system/usr directory, flashing a CM rom and pushing the directory back but it still didn't make any difference.
I've tried flashing the Cyanogen ROM then flash the boot.img from the Fender ROM but I forgot that the current SPL (1.33.0013) is locked. Another obstacle. So I replaced the boot.img in the CM rom with the Fender and of course it didn't work. I'm out of ideas... but I'm far from being a dev. But there are a lot of you smart guys out there. Has anyone broken any ground on these devices? Now that the original MyTouch is obsolete it's only a matter of time that the popularity of this device will grow since the MyTouch (original) is more popular that the G1 to date.
In conclusion I see two options from here:
We cook a custom MT3G 1.2 ROM from source (whereever that could be found).
We work together to discover a workaround for this touchscreen issue to allow us to use CM ROMs (perferred).
So far the only ROM for the new MT3G 1.2/Fender is an odexed stock rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623141 (thanks CursorDroid) and the only method of rooting is by goldcard methoddiscovered by Crypysmoker.
If there are any others can you please post them.
I would really like to see the development for this device take off and I'm sure that it will eventually. Themes, kernal mods, custom roms, tethering, overclocking, a2sd, etc and I'm sure that I'm not alone.
Thanks.
I would love to see this phone get some attention. I call it my poor mans nexus
Has anyone tried adb pulling the touchscreen kernel module from stock and inserting it into a modded ROM to see if it even loads?
/system/lib/modules only has wlan.ko
It looks like the driver might be tied to the kernel so a new kernel is needed

LMAO!! Even though I don't have one and don't intend to get one cause I'm satisfied with my original MyTouch, ROM development is always encouraged. the more ROMs, the better!

Unfortunately, the more ROMs the more confusion.
Now that we have two different MyTouch verions (not including the 32a/32b for the original) this is going to get VERY confusing. It already is. Even if you use "1.2" people are going to wonder if that's the ROM version or the phone version. Maybe MT3G2 or something.

And thus we need a dev. LOL. Unless someone can tell us what controls the touchscreen input. That might give us a step in the right direction.
I'm still hoping for Cyanogen ROMs on the Mytouch 1.2.
Lol since im the one who even discovered the pain staking rooting process ... omg such a pain... I felt the need to comment.
I just today started using my fender over my G1 because Criffmon (however the hell you spell it) came out with the themed stock rom. It looks perfect.
But the reason for no rom yet is the kernel tied into the new touchscreen drivers and 3.5mm jack. There is a whole new touchscreen which is why it doesnt work when u load other roms.

Yeah that's the rom that I used too... maybe i got my links confused.
That rom is odexed. I managed to de-odex the apps but I can't figure out the framework. I would like to add things like the modified browsers, dialer, contacts, mms app, etc. But I am unsure if it can be done because of the odex.

wow that looks sweet!!!...
So according to tmonews the MyTouch 1.2 is sold out and anyone interested will have to wait until this Spring to pick theirs up.
Then I noticed an interesting tweet from Haykuro:
"just realized something. The Nexus One and the N900 are amazing phones and a whole bunch of people have it but you NEVER see anyone with it."
So let's get this straight... the newest MyTouch is sold out and all of the devs (like Cyanogen) are rushing to develop firmware for a device that isn't anywhere near as popular. Meanwhile... what has been accomplished with the new MyTouch?
What's wrong with this picture???
Has anyone made any progress at all lately?
there's loads of things wrong with that. but sadly when your a gifted developer you have the right to develop for whatever device you want, even if loads of people won't be using it.

I understand all that but my point is out of the hundred of thousands of devices sold there isn't ONE person out there that tried to develop a rom for it and share it? There are over two dozen people (at LEAST) in this forum that has the phone and not one of them possess the skills to at least figure out how to use a CM rom on the device? Really? Why is that so hard for me to believe?
I'm not saying that I can do better because I know that I can't... but I also don't have any coding experience either. It would appear that all the T-Mobile customers with coding experiences decided NOT to buy this device for some reason. Or they decided to buy it... but not try to improve on it in any way.
You know that if Haykuro or Cyanogen had the phone we'd be on the twelfth rom version by now. C'mon devs! I'm still using my G1 if I want to show off the power of Android. I want to retire this device already.

No no.. You have it a bit wrong. Wes and Ctso were/have been working on it trying to get the kernel into Open eclair.
The main problem is those 3 drivers we need for the touch screen and 3.5 jack seem to be a super pain in the ass to extract from the current kernel to push into another or build a new one all together. Basically, the drivers can be seen, but not used.
ALL 32a roms will boot on the fender/mytouch 1.2, I have tried literally 10 pages of them.... Bu the moment it looks for a touch screen, all it sees is the track ball and defaults to it. YOu can fully run other roms, but you cant touch. They are trying lol, But were basicly gona have to deal with criffmon's themes for now since 2.1 will be on us in the next few weeks. Supposedly, we are getting the full 2.1 since these are 32a boards.
People are trying, But think of this as a first, NEW release in a long while.
I mean hell, it took me 3 days just to figure out how to root it, when the nexus 1 took maybe a few hours with ways already known.
It will come, be patient. The moment I get a working kernel I will let everyone know.
Hey Crypysmoker!!! Thanks for all the hard work on this!
It's good to know there are people working on this device.
I ran through the fascinate threads a bit and it looks like they are supposed to get an OTA Update to Froyo like today or sometime this week.
I know we have a Gingerbread AOSP ROM in the making, but my question is, once they have like themes and roms and stuff for their Froyo, what is the likelihood of us getting some ports?
I figure since most of our theme roms at least are ports from the Fascinate, we would be able to port more.

Technically possible. I even saw a thread where someone changed their Mesmerize into a Fascinate (it's the same hardware) but that's messy stuff so I wouldn't recommend just jumping into something like that if you don't know what you're doing.
However, I think the priority right now is to get 2.3 up and running which is, arguably, a lot better.
Yeah I agree with you on the last part. I was thinking about going through the whole "Fascinate your Mesmerize" think but it doesn't really seem worth it.

Also, once 2.3 is up and running anything 2.2 can by ported..
Sorry if this is a repeat thread. But how do you port a non cmda phone rom to a cdma phone?
You are better off asking in the irc. Since I am not familiar with the mes that great but the desire. I can't give all the info.
But in turn I do know you will need the kernel, libs, modules and probably a few other bits. Along with editing the build.prop.
The better question might be, which ROM are you hoping to port? If you're after CM7, that's pretty much done, and very well supported. If you're after MIUI, I think I'm about the only one working on a GB port, but it's at least still being poked at. Those would be the big universal ROMs I can think of.

Miui will be missing the same things. No AOSP based Roms currently have this functionality for us.
I'm currently in the process of beating my head against GB MIUI to get it to work. Thus far, I've had EXTREMELY limited success (I got it to boot ONCE). I've had limited help, but I could really use more from experienced ROM porters.
That said, yeah, anything CM7 is missing, MIUI will also be missing.
I've heard good things about the kernel JT1134 is working on, but I have no idea how far along he is, and how easily it will be tied into CM7 (and hopefully, MIUI).
Bottom line: The functionality you want can really only be found in a TouchWiz ROM. If you're after MIUI + Functionality, consider trying MIUIWiz.
Hey guys,
My girlfriend's Inspire 4G's been having some problems with lags and freezing so I figured I'd just root the thing and put a solid rom on there since she won't be messing with it at all.
As of today, January 5, 2011...what's the easiest way to root and get clockwork on to put a CM7 build on her phone?
First search is your friend. But the ace hack kit is the way to go.
Second rooting might not fix the problem. When I was bone stock I never had issues with lag or freezing so maybe something else might be going on with the phone. Just an idea. I will say running cm is certainly faster for me than compared to the heavier sense, but never to the point of phone freezing. This is just my personal experience

I have been at this a bit always liked cm and cwm. but now im asking myself what is the best rom to use on this inspire.. I hate sense with a passion.. its stock just like new and well I am going to do the works root, cwm and rom etc.. so which is the best one to use? should I stick with cm7? etc i know i had lots of issues with my hd2 with cm.. although I loved the rom.

Really? Please search! You will find that there IS NO BEST ROM! Every ROM will have its issues and its on you to figure out what you can and cannot live with. No one can decide that but you. So just try them all out and see what you like best.

No one can tell you wich the best rom is. That strictly subjective and gotta find it out for yourself. Cm7 is a great Rom but not the only AOSP one. You should read features and changelogs and the try a few before deciding.
To me absolution is awesome and so is CM7.

What they said.
Would it be possible to port a JB rom for the nexus s to the Samsung Infuse 4G? I'm new to all the development stuff, all though I have been flashing roms and such to many devices for a while. I understand most of the simple development stuff, but I know hardly, if anything, about porting roms to other devices. I don't think it would be possible, seeing as they are two completely different devices, but anything is possible. Just doesn't mean its very probable. So go easy on me.

You'd be better off asking the Infuse devs, I doubt any NS dev is going to be able to do anything to help you since they don't have the device to work on. The hardware is pretty similar so it could be doable but you're definitely going about it the wrong way.

it is probably possible but you are likely to run into numerous errors, that is if you even get it to boot !
we just recently got jelly bean a few days ago and it is still improving so using that as base would likely result in a very unstable port.. but you are welcome to give it a try and see how it goes. the worst that can happen is having to go back to stock
if you happen to have a capable PC, you might want to try building your own rom from source! it should be a great learning experience and is much more likely to work compared to a port

not sure about porting but there is a working JB rom on the Dev section
galaxy s line
i believe you'd actually be closer by using the CM10 for the fascinate that just landed yesterday, but i digress. the JB CM10 in the dev section is working better than CM9 for me.
I would definitely like to learn how to build a rom from source. But isn't there a lot of coding involved in that process? If there is, I would have to learn all that as I go. And I'm also going to check the development section right now, as soon as I post this reply. Seeing as I have a Nexus S and not an Infuse(my girlfriend does), I don't check this forum that often. Thank you all for the replies.
There are a few guides around that tell you how to set up the building environment on your PC, and how to sync repos and build for your device.
The complicated part might be fixing errors in your build , but thats how we all learn
