[Q] AT&T Warranty Service Center - Captivate General

So I went today to try to get my phone replaced because, build 1006, of the GPS issue and all they did was upgrade it to 2.2 and tell me that it should work now, drove home and the GPS was still way off. Wasted an hour and a half of my life there so they could tell me some BS about the phone and they didn't want to replace it. And to top it off they told a customer that there was no way to revert back to stock 2.1 which is also a bunch of BS so I told the guy I could do it and I did it with the ODIN program in about 5 minutes and the guy gave me 20 bucks haha, sorry for my rant but They completely wasted my time, I called the warranty department on the phone and I have replacements coming. Also, does anyone know if there is any way to complain about this to AT&T somehow?

T-Mobile Qustion. Please help

I have asked this question before in the xda general section but no responces so maybe ill have luck here. So I purchased the Galaxy S 4g 1 month ago and while I like this phone I want to exchange it for the g2x. I just want to know if its possible, if anyone has tried exchanging their phone after the 14 days because this is my second unit and I am still having major battery issues. Ive tried everything from recalibrating the battery, putting the screen on the minimum brightmes+ screen filter, juice defender, going back to completely stock with no apps, etc and my battery life is still pretty terrible. After playing ONE hour of words with friends (bored and i just wanted to test) my phone goes from 100 to 20%. Words with friends isnt even a cpu heavy game and it took that much out of the battery? Its just unacceptable so I want to try out the g2x which from what I have read has amazing battery life for an android device. So if anyone can provide any advice on what can I do to exchange this phone I would greatly appreciate it. The earlier I change this phone the better. Sorry if this question has already been asked. Ive done a search and i didnt find anything. Thanks

It's called warranty. So unless you bought a different region phone that nullifies warranty, contact the manufacturer and explain your problem, they'll have you ship it back to them for a fix. When you get a working unit back, either enjoy it, or sell it and get something else.

This is my second phone, I already used the waranty because my first had the exact same problem so instead of going through the entire process again I just want to avoid the galaxy s 4g all together and get the g2x. Selling the phone isnt really an option either because who would want a galaxy s 4g when there is the g2x, the sensation, and galaxy s 2 right around the corner. I only got this phone because I was doing a switch of responsibility which means my 2 years starting all over again so I decided might as well upgrade. Now im stuck with this thing.

Yes, if it was less than thirty days then it's possible. If it's beyond thirty days then you may have a hard time. My girl bought a Vibrant and didn't like it, but liked my Hd2 running Cm7. It had been 27 days since she bought the Vibrant, and she was able to return it, and me pay the 100.00 difference for a MyTouch 4g. So, the end result was she got my HD2, and I got a new MyTouch 4g. She had to complain (in store) about the Vibrant, and the manager approved the return. Technically, you have 14 days, unless a manager approves the return. Just don't make it obvious that the only reason you're returning the Galaxy is because the G2x is out.
You might want to try customer loyalty if you can't find a manager.

Thanks for replying. I think im going to have big issues in returning this phone then. I just realised that this is my 2nd month not 1st owning this phone. Plus our store reps where I live arent too friendly. My mom got a feature phone because she doesnt need a data plan but when she wanted to return it and couldnt within 14 days because of constant snow storms they did not let her even after talking to the manager. They kept saying well thats to bad, you had 14 days. Ill still try it out though, if that doesnt work ill try calling customer service.

I remember reading somewhere that words with friends is a major battery killer. Anyways, you could try offering to return the phone and resigning a new two year contract with the g2x. When in doubt, mention switching to another provider.

This.
If all else fails, sell that Vibrant 4G on Craigslist. I bet you can easily get close to $500 for it. Especially if it's brand new and in perfect condition. If you have everything it came with, reseal it and sell it new in box.
since the g2x is out, the GS will not worth $500 anymore...since the full retail price of the g2x is $500

New Verizon policy on replacing 4G devices?

So on Saturday i called Verizon to complain about my proximity sensor not working... i couldn't take hanging up on my friends anymore, and I did try blowing it out with compressed air... No dice.
We went through the normal troubleshooting routine. "Did you try pulling the battery?" "Lets try a Factory Reset" "Call #237 and try to trip the sensor" "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?" with exception to the last one... IT Crowd anyone? Well once the rep was satisfied that I wasn't BS'ing him, we started the replacement process. I gave my address and the whole normal routine, i was placed on hold for a few minutes as the "order wouldn't go through" or something....
At that point I was told that a new policy had been put into effect with replacing 4G devices.... Verizon was going to have to send me a "Recovery Box" where I had to send back my Thunderbolt, and they would send me the replacement within 3 to 5 days. WTF! I explained that this was ridiculous and such, and kindly asked to speak to a supervisor who told me the same thing.
Today, i received the "Recovery Box", and will be sending my Thunderbolt back. What interested me was this paragraph that was in the "RETURN INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR 4G LTE DEVICE" pamphlet: (I will gladly scan and post if there's interest...)
"NOTE: For problems covered under the manufacturer's warranty, you will receive a replacement device within 3-5 business days after shipping your defective device. Your replacement device may be reconditioned.
For problems not covered under the manufacturer's warranty, your defective device may be returned to you in the same condition."
I'm wondering if after all of the issues with rebooting phones simply being a software upgrade, if Verizon is doing this to prevent any more of their CPO phones going out.... and if those reboot phones will just be updated and sent back to customers... Anyway, that was my story. Anyone else have this issue.... or was a lot of smoke just blown up you know where?
Never seen that before mine was just sent in like a few days back with no problems

It's probably so they can avoid replacing phones for things like water damage or dropped phones (i.e. obvious user inflicted problems).
I believe they are trying to force us to use the insurance if we have it and screw us if we dont. I have a TB, but just had more or less the same thing happen with my sons Casio phone. The Casio needs a battery but verizon doesnt have them and can not find one for it. Was sent the like new referb #3 and told to put old battery in #3 then file insurance claim because of battery. Doesnt this sound a wee bit like fraud. Still has manufacture warranty on it. My thought is that we still have the manufactures warranty on our TBs maybe we should try contacting HTC for that warranty,
as verizon doesnt seem to want to stand behind the products they sell any more. Or pay the $99. 00 deposit and loose our TBs. I am very unhappy with verizons customer service and I believe that like Sprint was 3 years ago we will get told to go screw ourselves live with your junk phone, shut up and pay your bill any way. Thats why I left Sprint after 8 years. Verizon is #1 now and will forget about us customers that got them there. I feel bad things coming in the near future

I had to get mine replaced and they sent me one overnight with no issues. I had to pay 12.99 for the overnight shipping instead of waiting for snail mail to bring me a new phone. I had no issues with anyone on the phone. This was last week btw. Sounds like either have had a couple replaced and they want to check it first or you got some person being a prick on the phone.
Get bestbuy insurance. They will replace it in the store. Mine had a speaker problem and they took about 15 minutes to review it and showed geek squad while I walked around the store. 15 minutes later I hear my name is needed in mobile. The said ok we do see there is a technical malfunction and you will get a replacement.
Sounds like user error to me...
SOUNDS LIKE RULE CHANGE 101.
Is the recovery box for t.e.c. cause the reason its purchased is to always have a phone shipped next day if under 12pm.

I had mine replaced last week with no problems, and again on Monday (the 2nd replacement) which I should have on my doorstep when I get home. Last week they sent it ground for free and I would've had to pay $12 for overnight, yesterday they did overnight for free.
Edit: the first time I called they said I had to go into a store to have them check it out, I was rooted and running BAMF. I put it back to stock to take it into the store and had no problems from then on.
Were you rooted/running a different Rom? That may be why they told you that.

Best Buy does have the best insurance. I will never buy a phone from Verizon or their crappy insurance. I seriously don't know how they can legally get away with calling their insurance "insurance" I have had multiple phones and two PS3's replaced by buying their "Black Tie" insurance. It is always a smooth transaction if something goes wrong with anything covered.
Had two replacements both with overnight shipping free.

My Warranty Replacment Experience

Well, to start off the new year right, my original G2x stopped sending/receiving SMS messages under any circumstances, whether it was on wifi, 4G, Edge, or GPRS. I unrooted it and got a new SIM card, still have the same issue (according to the person at the T-Mobile store, I had a "2G SIM card in a 4G phone.") They suggest a whole new phone, and I agree.
One day later with overnight shipping, I get my new G2x, and the first thing I notice is the LG branding in place of the T-Mobile branding. Ignoring that, I turn on the phone only to see dead pixels everywhere, I don't understand how they could have even sent this one out. I call up customer care and they make me go through the whole troubleshooting procedure, and they decided to send me another one. They also told me if this next one had problems, they'd send me a replacement phone of a different model.
So I'm getting a new G2x sent to me tomorrow. I hope this next one works just fine, or I'll have to get a new phone. Also, what replacement phones do they usually offer for the G2x?
I have been through this process, I'm on my third G2x and CC told me if I ha e anymore problems with my G2x then they will give me a different phone.e... When I asked what them replacement model would be the CC Rep told me they could only exchange it for the Sidekick 4G and I told them I would just deal with the G2x and any problems it my have

Thought I'd follow up on my original post. Got my new G2x in the mail, and it's much better. The screen is flawless (no bleeding!), and it was obviously brand new, it still had the original plastic covering on the screen and buttons. Still has the LG branding, but I think I'll live. Overall, a good experience from T-Mobile.

On the g2x if you hold the power and down button, it should just do a master reset, it's not like HTC where it takes you to recovery (correct me if I'm wrong) but just to make sure your unrooted try to download and use a app that requires root

at&t GAVE me a skyrocket...

Alright so before you get to caught up in the title, let me explain myself. I have been doing some research on which phones that at&t and sammy would upgrade to ICS, the infuse was not one of them. The Galaxy S II Skyrocket however was one. I promptly looked up the cities that have at&t LTE, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my city there. I remembered back to when I owned the awful Motorola Backflip. I hated it so much I used the warranty department at at&t to switch the Backflip out three times before being sent an HTC Aria the fourth time. I decided to try this with the infuse and this time the phone they were willing to supply me with was the Galaxy S II Skyrocket. I thought that sharing this may help some of you who want a phone that will definitely receive ICS. If your Infuse is still under warranty, call up at&t give them crap till they send you an infuse (repeat 3 times) and enjoy your skyrocket the 4th time!

I only had to do this one time. I bought a captivate for $1 back in aug 2011. I got bored with it. In Oct I decided to call att and tell them i had all kinds of problems with the captivate and that i did not want another one and asked them what they could do for me besides me cancel my service. She offered me an Atrix or a infuse. I got the infuse and didn't pay anything for it. I just sent my captivate back in once i received my infuse. You don't have to do multiple warranty exchanges, you have to be a good talker.

The warranty department figures it's easier to deal with lying by just giving in sometimes.
Pretty slick lol
So I called them and told them I was having touchscreen issues which is True I have been. They sent me over to At&t warranty to verify my issue, told them I've done a master reset, I've done recovery and everything, They then stated I was in warranty for a replacement so here comes another infuse. lol
Edit: You DO NOT need the account holders last SSC numbers to get a replacement. Tell them you have a question and they'll say sure I can help you with that, tell them your problem and they'll have to deal with helping you. I advice before you do this, you put stock firmware back on your phone, factory reset it before sending it back as well, Don't bother if your phone has physical damage or water damage as there Warranty exchange seems to be very serious and they will charge you $399 which is the total cost of the phone.

Edit: To save them time and yourself time, Tell them you have tried a factory reset and tried the recovery option built into the phone to try and fix your issue, They'll take you right to At&t Warranty Dept to see your options on getting another phone.

OK, sounds good.
I'm seriously considering trying to get a different phone. I love the infuse, but the support base for roms seems to be dropping off quickly.

Once we get an official expect to see better roms, Only a couple weeks till we see it.
Edit: I've been thru this process many times with T-Mobile and getting another phone, Refurbished phones are nothing compared to what you got now thats been used for months, Refurbished phones are phones used 30 days or less from purchase and when there brought back they cannot be sold as "New" anymore. Every refurbished phone I've ever gotten was in the upmost perfect condition.

[Q] Sent T-Mobile a Rooted Phone

Since I was having problems with my phone, and it was still under their warranty, I requested a replacement, and when it was sent to me I was careful (or so I thought) to restore the stock recovery as well as the stock rom. After some time I realized that the "stock" ROM to which I had restore the phone I sent to T-Mobile was a modified Froyo build, rooted, with ROM Manager installed. So now I am worried that they may charge me some ridiculous fee because I sent back a device that was not fully stock. From logic or past experience, is TMO going to take any action?
I've sent in a g2x with cm7, didn't get billed or I don't even know if they found out. Could be different for you but that's my experience

honestly, most of the time the phone is never powered on again before its disassembled and refurbished.
and even if it is, nobody working on the floor is going to care either way.
most of the time, as long as the phone gets past the rep in the store, your fine.
I think the worst they could do if they found out, was just return it to you and say they're sorry. I don't think they'll just charge you without your approval. When I brought in my phone to check a problem with my data, the first thing the guy there did was check my phone's info like software and stuff to see if it's stock, otherwise they can't help you if it's a rooted phone.
Let us know what happens.

When I first got my g2x I returned it rooted and running a custom rom. They didn't even power it on they just checked it for water damage. You should be cool. No worries.

My phone short circuited while rooted and wouldn't turn on so I sent it in and am crossing my fingers lol
Success.
I got an email a couple of days ago saying T-Mobile had received my return. I called customer support under the pretense that my phone was acting weird and got her to check my warranty and it was fine. So as per what most people were saying, sending tmo a rooted phone will not root any warranties or incur any action from their part. Can't say much about phones sent directly to the manufacturer or the "premium handset insurance" people, which apparently managed through a third party company that states "any false information given will be processed accordingly."
On a side note, if you check tmo's support website, for most of their recent phones they attached a note explicitly stating an update to 4.0 in the future. For our beloved g2x, however, they wrote a long note stating how the recently leaked 21y update will be available starting may 14th, without any allusion to ICS. To me that just reinforces the notion that the only company that's more pathetic than a LG and nvidia combo is T-mobile and their haphazard and lethargic approach and contributions to today's smartphone community.
Not to say the update is completely useless, however; from my own experience it makes a tremendous improvement in battery life and wifi calling. Not to mention the fact that my phone does not shut down randomly in the middle of the night like it used to at times.

I bought my G2X on craigslist. It was already rooted and running CM7. I was getting a SIM error (later to be learned it was caused by ICS) I told TMo I bought it on craigslist already rooted. They still sent me a replacement at no cost.
I was charged a $20 warranty replacement fee, wtf! Anyone else? Are they pulling my leg here?

I was going through warranty replacement proceedings (cuz of screen bleeding, 3rd time) over the phone with a tmo rep and when he said there would be a $5 charge i flipped out (it's the principal, if they would send me a properly manufactured device i wouldn't need to keep returning their ****) he instantly volunteered to waive the fee. I'm about to call and get ANOTHER replacement. Eventually i will get them to replace it with a sensation.

Wtf?! Really?! But you didnt even buy it feom them... why theyhelp you out like that???
My friend told me whatever phone the SIM card is in is covered by the insurance. That's the only thing I've heard. I didn't ask them (T-Mobile) any more questions.

Sweeet! Kudos for playing that one smart. I have sent back a few phones for warranty replacement to T-mo. My 1st was a modded HD2 that registered on their system (so they said) as running android. (it was running android, lol). 2nd was a G2x which was rooted and had a custom ROM. I know for sure they have no way of knowing without you volunteering the information yourself because they ask you have you modded the phone. If you say yes they may use that to deny you flat out but if not they probably will never be notified of such. Devices typically are wiped clean before ever being powered on.
*bump* yea I'm looking to send in my HTC one s for battery life issues and Im wondering fogs sane thing seeibg that I'm rooted and custom viper Rom installed.
had my phone off th3 charger for 50mins now and I'm at 82% Battery wtff
