I feel like I should be getting more out of the light sensor for the automatic settings though this may be due to my ignorance of the proper settings that I am looking for so maybe someone can help.
I am trying to get my screen to be dimmer naturally on the lowest automatic setting... If i have it set to automatic brightness and then cover up the light sensor it gets to say a brightness of 3 out of 10... if i turn off automatic brightness and just turn the brightness down all the way it gets down to about a 1 or where i want it to be. How do i get the automatic brightness levels to make the screen dimmer?
Use a CM7 based rom, and then tweak from there.

I have the opposite problem. On full auto I would like it to adjust brighter when I am in bright sunlight. Are there any options besides changing roms? I like the rom I am using. Are there any apps that help or is there something I could hack?

AOKP and CM9 are both ICS based, but they're different. AOKP offers far more customization.

Hi There!
I got my wife one of these to replace her Motorola Defy.. She has a few questions I couldn't really answer...
1) She seems to be having problems with signal and therefore internet connectivity. All our other 6 devices wireless fine. It's running 4.04 Android Custom ROM. I read recently 4.04 users were reporting issues with the signal strength and wondering if I should change back to 4.03?
2) She says whites are not really white and when I compare to the Defy it would appear she is right.
3) She says the text doesn't look as sharp or crisp and again I am inclined to agree. I am not sure if this is a Pixel Density issue or a setting we can change.
4) Battery life is shocking. I'd say she is lucky to get 8 hours if she talks on the phone for perhaps 45 minutes a day. I am interested to know what a reasonable baseline expectation is.. Right now she is barely touching it.
Thanks for any assistance.
Hi,
I have been using ICS 4.0.4 as soon as it officially came out and I haven't had any issues with connection (let alone hear of any issues for that matter.)
Whites are definitely not as white as they are supposed to and thankfully there is a software modification called: Voodoo Control while allows you to adjust the gamma settings to change the saturation and tone of colours.
Regarding the sharpness, changing the gamma settings may help in this department unless you'd like to change the pixel density via rooting/flashing custom ROMs.
To be honest, when I first owned this device I would disgusted from the battery life I was achieving. 8-10 hours per day. However, I am able to last about 20-30 now after a few modifications. In 4.0 you can view which apps are consuming the most battery:
System settings > Battery
Battery saving tips:
- Turn down the brightness 10-25% (Also turn off auto brightness if you can live with changing the brightness manually)
- Turn off data when not in use (switch to 2G if possible)
- Turn off auto-sync (or sync less frequently)
- Turn off GPS when not in use
- Turn off the screen manually before putting it in your pocket
- Turn off autorotation
Screen brightness is the biggest culprit so I'd turn that down to a comfortable level.
Basically, the more features you turn off that makes your smart phone "smart" the longer the battery will last.

Can you recommend one?
Matr1x kernel has been around for a long time and is the most feature packed kernel. It also has been tested to save the most battery life compared to other kernels through built-in undervolt.

Is Matrix Kernel voodoo compatible
Yes, it's compatible. AirKernel is another option. There are a few on the DEV section you might want to check. ROMs, I would say: Bugless Beast, MIUIXperience, CyberGR, Brainmaster ROMs, AOSP+ and AOKPBlue 1.1

Where can I get this Voodoo Control? I only see a Sound Control App?
I answered your question in another thread. The color and sound controls are in the same application. If the kernel doesn't support it, it won't show up in the options. The name of the app was changed a while back.

hi everyone,
this is actually directed to Jscott, regarding the ethereal last build 1.2
my question is:
I was using your stock at&t gb with root and cwm.
specifically your option 3 in the threar you posted over in development,
a few days ago ive been using the ethereal rom v1.2
ive been experiencing some differences vrs the stock gb uclb3.
is it possible that battery life is shortened with your rom?
could this be because of the kernel change? (stock has entropy's dd, ethereal infuzion core a)
lets assume kernel could be the cause, is it possible to flash entropys kernel into the ethereal rom? would it affect its performance?
lidroid toggles work partially in some cases, like flashlight wont turn on sometimes.
can the rom have issues regarding the response of the screen, in some cases it seems to fail to respond. have to push my finger a lil bit more to the screen.
im very new to this area of flashing roms and stuff. just wanted to say ethereal is very cool, you did a very nice job with this! thanks!
Since you directed your question to..the op of this ROM, question relayed....

Glad you're enjoying Ethereal. I'll tell you a little "secret". Ethereal is Option C from the Odin UCLB3 packages I put together. A few images and graphical values have been changed to make it look more custom, the launcher has been changed to AOSP, and lidroid toggles have been added. If lidroid toggles get a little wonky, as they have from time to time in most custom roms, a reboot should clear things up. As for battery use, I've had about the same for both stock and Ethereal. Most have reported good battery stats on the rom, but your mileage may vary based on how you use the phone and what apps you use. You may notice a slight difference when using Entropy512's daily driver kernel, as it was designed to provide good battery life. You can flash it with this rom if you would like to test. If you aren't comfortable flashing kernels, you may want to give Zen Arcade's Infuse Toolkit a try. It gives the option to try different kernels.

can I flash the kernel same way as in the post you made about using different kernels?
it's impressive it is option c. in performance they have alot of difference, ethereal has no lag whatsoever.
thats why I was asking if I change to entropy512 dd from infuzion, would that affect ethereals performance?

I personally get good performance with Entropy512's daily driver and Ethereal, and you can use any of the kernel flash methods (easiest being SGS Kernel Flasher from the Play store).

You can see the kernel information in Settings / About Phone. The kernel info is the same for both Zen's Infusion-Z and Entropy's Daily Driver since they are based on the same kernel. For battery life, I can get about a day and a half if I hardly use the phone. With moderate use, I have to plug it in when I go to sleep each night. That's about as good as I get for battery life on stock, on UCLB3 based custom roms, and on CM9. This is with keeping the phone in airplane mode and with wifi on when there is bad cell reception. This phone eats up battery when it searches for cell towers and can't find one. I also keep my screen as dim as possible, unless I'm outdoors, keep GPS off unless needed, and keep auto-rotation off unless needed. If I have a day where I use the phone heavily, and the screen is on for several hours at a time, I get about eight or nine hours, but top it off at work or in the car to make it through the day. This is pretty average for most modern smart phones.

Yeah, I've seen this also. The only way to make that not happen is if I go in and change the remaining stock icons to match the ones that I've already modified. I'll get to that eventually.

Just fixed this, by the way, and will get an update out in the next day or so. There are a few other things I want to work on before putting out another release.
I have had this problem on cm10, baked and now on factory ROM. With various kernels. When I unlock sometimes, the screen is like super green for a sec then it works. Sometimes its froze on it too. Any fix?

Things I've seen work are use a kernel without voodoo, increase min cpu speed or up the voodoo color settings to default or higher. It's very common though.

You wont have that with marmite kernel.

It has to do with how the gamma is set for the screen in some kernels. To get the really nice rich colors you need to set the gamma significantly lower than stock. This results in the "green flash". If you want good colors you need to live with it.
Morfic did figure out a way to get rid of the green flash while maintaining dark colors in the ICS Trinity kernels. However, the flash is back in the JB trinity.

I was using CM7 for a while enjoying the luxury of having my quick buttons for wifi, gps, bluetooth and sound but now that im back on 2.3.4 stock rom because of stability reasons, I dont have these buttons anymore, was wondering if there was a mod i could use out there to bring these back. Im currently running ADW launcher EX as well.
I do not know of any mod for quick buttons on stock 2.3.4
However, have you tried running plain vanilla cm7 instead of one of the many tweaked/modded versions of it like Hellfire? You can get it from get.cm, the latest nighlty build. CM7 is definitely leaps and bounds better in terms of battery usage, but if the ROM itself is giving me stability issues with network connectivity, messaging, etc, what options do i have? Aside from not having the status bar buttons, customizability isnt really a huge deal to me, more a less battery use is the biggest one. I was going 1 day 6 hours almost on CM7 and im down to about 12-16 now with the stock rom, all with light usage.
