soo recently (around the time i upgraded to CM7, but dont know for sure if this is the reason) my words with friends game which we all love so much started freezing constantly!!!!
anyone else having this issue recently?
ive always known that its a super ****ty written program but it never used to freeze after every motion....any idea whats going on?
it behaves decently if i play when ive just restarted my phone, but after an hour or so of being on, it runs like ****. thus making me think maybe it does have somthing to do with CM7....
lets get some words of wisdom on the issue

Nope, no issues here with WWF and CM7.
Have you tried clearing app cache AND data for words with friends in your applications menu?
Working fine here also.
No problems on any CM7 nightlies.

Hi Guys
Samsung Captivate is my very first Smartphone and i always knew i was gonna get an android phone.
I bought this phone yesterday and i absolutely love it.
But i am facing some problems
1. the phone is a bit laggy.
2. the battery life doesnt seem very great.
3. The third one is very weird. I went to the android market to download apps. Once i select an app to download and install, there is no notification on the top area where it should show it. I mean it takes almost 10-15 minutes for that notification to show up and the phone is very unresponsive during these times. Also the music player crashed a couple of times.
Has anyone come across this problem. Please let me know!
Well , that was the first part..
I want to know the experiences of people who have already rooted the phone and installed Froyo on it. What are the noticeaable changes? Is there any improvement in battery life?
I am pretty sure i wanna root this phone and get rid of the ATT apps etc etc.
BTW i have attached a wallpaper which i hope u guys will like
Cheers

There is no Froyo for captivate , not yet anyway.
Root by itself doesn't fix anything , just lets you change system files and tinker around, more freedom so to speak.
Personally i am not having those problems, maybe you installed something that is eating up all resources, i have had similar problems on my Nexus one when i was downloading bunch of random programs and experimenting...
Try one of those app killers or restart phone maybe.

I factory reset my phone too , and i still have to install apps after resetting. Will keep you guys updated. BTW i thought rooting was to install froyo on the captivate.
I did not know tht it was just for the workarounds.
Hello guys
Please help me
I still am facing the same problem.
I have installed the AppBrain and fest web browser apps too, but somehow it still takes me a minimum of 10-15 mins before the download begins. And during that time the phone is very slow and unresponsive.
Is anyone else facing the same problem.
Please let me know!

I've noticed something similar to what you are talking about, but defiantly not to such extend. Marketplace seems to be slow on my phone, at least comparing to my brother's Evo. Sometimes just after I start download of a new app, the phone becomes unresponsive for a bit, but it doesn't freeze or anything, just I start noticing some lag, that's all. To your other concerns:
1. Remove Live Wallpaper and as many widgets from your screen as you can. After I did that, I don't have any lag at all. You can also use manual task killer application to shut down all of the AT&T crap that runs on background (and prevent them to start up again).
2. Coming from feature phone, battery live will always look bad on the Smartphone. For me, battery lasts the whole day, from 9AM till 12PM even with a heavy use. For a Smartphone, that's good results.
Only times I have had lag is when something is installing. Also when my network connection is bad and something is trying to pull data.
But then again i just switched from a Kaiser running WinMo to this phone, so I may just be use to lag by now

Hi friends,
"Beautiful Widgets" was one of the first paid apps I bought for my x10. I LOVED it! It brought a whole new vision and style to my phone, what with the many clock themes and weather styles.
But recently, it's been AWFUL... plagued with bugs and force-close issues and time freezing. I even have been late for an appointment because the bloody time was stuck an hour behind and I didn't notice!
And now, the geolocation option is messed up too... it used to work fine but it tells me I'm somewhere I'm not. I went across town today and it told me I was somewhere I'd never even heard of.
I've e-mailed the dev but had no response, and from looking at the comments on the Android Market, I'm not alone on this one.
I just wondered if there is anyone who ISN'T having issues with it? I kinda wish I'd not updated it but a couple of weeks ago there were updates every couple of days. It's a shame because it worked great for me before the mass-update thing but I have no idea which version it was at before it went horribly wrong.
It was partly due to recommendations from this site that made me look at BW in the first place so I thought I'd start a discussion to see what experiences anyone else is having, or if anyone has found a way to get around this madness!
Mine works fine
It's fine for me too. The 3.xx version us really great, with accuweather.
For me, the best widget pack, and made by à french guy

Works fine for me too. I take it you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling?
I think most problems you and many others are referring to surfaced from version 3 onwards. Your best bet is to find 2.99 and see how you get on with that.
(PM me if you cant find it )
mine is all good too, couldnt live without it.
I was having problems too until i read that 3.xx needs to have a clean instal... did u install the 2.99 version and reinstall 3.06? I think that should remedy some problems like time and proper weather with accuweather. Something to do with different way to access database.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the tips. I do have some backups but I only seem to have 2.82...
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but it didn't make any difference. I'm wondering if there are data files somewhere that failed to uninstall that are causing problems.
I'll have another go at it... MarylandCookie, thanks for the help, I may be in touch about that 2.99 version if this fails!
This has taught me one thing though... don't update apps instantly if you're happy with how they've been working. MUST make backups first! The only reason I stopped doing that is because I've been running out of space on my memory card with all the music and media I've been storing on there.
Thanks for the tips, I'll see what happens after further fiddling...
Here's an update:
Uninstalled -> Reinstalled from Market.
Same probs with geolocation. Can't be bothered waiting to see if time freezes again; could happen any time.
Uninstalled. Found /sdcard/data/beautifulwidgets folder. Just thought "sod it" and deleted the lot, even though it means downloading my fave themes again.
Reinstalled... and...
Geolocation still way off. NUTS. If anyone has any further advice please let me know!
Maybe you should just not use geolocation and hope the issue is remedied in future updates. I personally aren't having any problems either, maybe everyone else (including me) aren't using the geolocation option? why not just type in your location and save it?
And isn't it just constant rain in England anyways?? lol
i use Geo Location, out of interest are your settings on your handset to allow location by wireless networks or by GPS with Assisted? or all of them?
I tried it with combinations of settings, and in the older versions it's always been accurate, no matter what the settings are.
I'm in a different place every day with my work and I loved that the Geolocation feature was accurate before. Now it tells me I'm at places I'm not at, I find it annoying.
But yeah, it should just say "England: Wet & miserable. Wherever you are."
I've uninstalled it now and gone back to the stock clock. At least I know it keeps the time well...
For example, last Saturday, club I go to shuts at about 2:30am... I checked clock and it said it was about 12:30am... within 20 minutes the lights came on, chucking out time. BLOODY ANNOYING! Yeah I'd been drinking so that doesn't help but I bought that app for the pretty clocks and if I can't trust it, and the dev is unresponsive, then I just give up, to be honest! Just feel a bit ripped off now. I officially give up. For now.
Perhaps he'll fix it some day but it went from updates every few minutes to nothing for about a week. I think he's had enough!
I find the geolocation now to be more accurate for my location at home, although it doesnt seem to update when it should. I went to somewhere 50miles from home at the weekend and the location didnt change once.
Love the app though
Did you try version 2.999?
Ah. I don't have it yet... did you PM me? I must have missed it. Nuts, as I was about to go out too... oh hang on... I've got a smartphone and I'm gonna use it!
Ah... I now have 2.999 and can confirm it works GREAT! Location is spot on, time working okay so far, weather looks good... thanks!
Gods knows why the dev fiddled with it so much after this version... thanks so much for the help!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yeah, I sporadically get the same problem. Before v3 I had to make sure there was no space in the location i.e. city, country. Geolocation would put me on the other side of the planet. It's got better now, but time still freezes sporadically.
New update available seems to have sorted out the geolocation issues for me
Yeah, it's typical... just as I was happy with 2.999, all working GREAT (thanks to you-know-who-you-are!) I noticed 3.72 was available so I thought I'd give it a try and it seems MUCH better now.
Typical, as soon as I find an alternative solution the dev finally sorts out what has been driving me nuts for ages!
So it's Beautiful again, and the weather seems to be more accurate too... at the moment... not going to upgrade again in a hurry and may check out how much it soaks up the battery compared to 2.999.
Thanks again for the help and advice.
Honestly, I have to completely disagree.
I have never had a problem with BW since I bought it the first time.
Locator works fine, the weather is generally accurate, and no problem with the time. Granted I live in a large city, so no problems locating, but still. no problems at all. With previous versions or new updates.
im running stock rom with no mods yet (im usally a heavy softmodder but its not worth it yet)
and today epistle rom gripper and ninjump wanted to update so me not carrying updated them and for the rest of my day my phone has been rendered useless it wouldnt send text calls or go on the internet via wifi or 3g and it stopped getting a radio signal all together when i usally have full bars
so it turns out the new update to one of these programs nocked my whole phone unstable and i want to know how and why because as soon as i uninstalled them i was able to connect to the net instantly and i got my missed calls emails and text in as soon as they where gone so.
can someone shed some light on this?
have never heard of anything like that ;(
You might have to check with the respective developers of those apps. Maybe the apps you updated are not optimized for Gingerbread yet. I'm usually the first to criticize Gingerbread for its slew of glitches, but in this case, it sounds like the issue lies with the applications themselves; especially considering once you uninstall them, your phone is back to normal.

Yes, more or less. Just reach out to them (there should be an "Email the Developer" option in the Market place of every app to find their email) and tell them briefly but precisely the problems you're having. Mention you're running Gingerbread 2.3 (2.3.1 if you want to be specific) on a Nexus S. If they're good about replies, you should hear from them. Then see what happens from there.
When I wake up in the morning my Infuse is almost always off or frozen (and since I use my cellphone as an alarm this can be very troublesome!).
It doesn't only happen at night however, the phone randomly freezes/shuts off during normal use on occasion as well.
I am rooted, running launcherpro plus. I also have a ton of apps (can't resist free ****ty apps from the Amazon store), so any one of them might be causing the problem.
I am trying to narrow down the problem by turning off certain apps that are running in the background, disabling live wallpaper, anything I can think of - no luck figuring out what the problem is thus far.
Is anyone out there experiencing anything similar? Maybe there is a common denominator I am not considering.
Thanks in advance.
First thing I'd do is wipe my phone fresh and only install the apps that are absolutely necessary then test stability.

LOL Agreed sounds like you have a lot of **** that you don't need.
Hey all,
While my phone has been absolutely fantastic in just about every aspect, the only issue is that anytime I try and play a game on it, it will freeze and I have to completely close the game out and restart it. Do any of my fellow redditors have any suggestions as to what may be causing this or how to fix it? Or are any of you experiencing this as well.
I have yet to experience this and I have been playing a lot of games. What games are causing this? Also, redditors? This is XDA.
Sorry about the redditors thing, they suggested here and i forgot i put that in there. The two that i know of are Temple Run and Baseball '12
I've put a good few hours into Temple Run and haven't even had a single stutter. Haven't played Baseball '12. I dunno what to tell you. It *shouldn't* matter but how much free RAM do you have before playing the games? Have you tried killing everything (again, you *shouldn't* have to do this) before playing?
I have gone through task manager and killed everything possible several times. Doesn't clear it up. Do you think it might be something with the phone and should return it for another???
killing those apps actually makes things worse. Leave things as they are.

Have you tried doing a factory reset and just installing Temple Run and seeing if it still does it?

How would freeing up RAM make things worse? I get that Android is supposed to have very good memory management but it has been more than proven that the One X is not your typical Android phone in this regard. Its memory management flat out sucks.
I can also confirm no stutter on Temple Run. Good luck.

I was trying to avoid that but i may just have to do that tomorrow after saving all my contacts. Will update after attempting this to see if it fixes it.
while we are on the subject, I too have been playing a lot of games with no real problems except for GTA III. At first everything was working excellent except the sound would crackle in the menus and occasionally in the game. After a while however with all display settings at max, the game would start randomly stuttering and slowing down So I lowered the settings some which helped, but it still does it about 10% of the time. Tried reboots several times and doesnt seem to fix anything.
Everything else works wonderfully and I think I remembered someone posting something about GTA III running perfectly at full display settings. Wonder if maybe I need to somehow re-install. Also it seems like there are a lot of people who have odd ball issues with programs not running correctly while everyone else seems to be fine. Wonder if there could be some defect with the phone, maybe its occasionally corrupting parts of files when installing. IDK just thinking out loud.
GTA III I have problems with the game too. there is something wrong with the phone memory management. My SGII could handle this game with no problems.

Thanks, good to know. Wishful thinking maybe, but I'm hoping the update might fix this and some other issues.
are you guys able to play Let's Golf 3 or GT Racing or Real football 2012?
