WWW.htc.com/us/support/hero-sprint/downloads/ FINALLY
Ummm.......
This is almost as bad as the "hey it looks like 2.1will be released on such and such a date" threads
I had a bit of trouble with the link opening into an email so i reposted it. Thanks.

Well, if you're rooted - I wouldn't do this. I don't know if you'll ever be able to get root again.
If you're not rooted - I'm not quite sure why you're here.
there is already three threads for this. download is very slow. anybody mirror yet?
Lets say I rooted my phone just so I could use the 2.1 ROMs people have here before the release, and I don't care if my phone is rooted or not, can I just install this ROM on a rooted phone or does it need to be "de-rooted" first?

As long as you don't care if you ever see root again, you can run the RUU no matter how you have your phone configured.
At OP,
I merged both threads that you created for this subject. Please do not double post. Thanks.
hi all need help please i dont like 2 do the adb commands as i dont want 2 brick my fone also ive tried ruu vodafone and that dent get s-on u use CWM and revolutionary to get s-off but wud like it s-on for ota update please any help wud be much appreciated
This is a Development section of the forum and threads created here should be such.
Please re-post in the Q/A section and you'll more than likely get a faster response.
You also need to provide more information about your device....HBOOT and ROM version would be a start
OTA's are over rated, if you go S-OFF and root then avoid OTA's and use custom ROMs only, which will incorporate the OTA fixes.
MOD: I've requested that this post is moved or deleted.
alright so im kind of new to android devices in general and when i heard of ICS officially coming to the vivid (not from the air) i automatically dowloaded it. Now i want to root it but when i look at these threads all i see is how to root the htc vivid from gingerbread when it was 2.3.4 i dont want to sound like a noob but im really lost and being able to root my phone would really help thx
why dont you root it on 2.3.6, then flash the first link. Second link tells you how to flash.

So, man, I'm trying to update my Razr HD to JB.
I am rooted on ICS, and plan on installing the JB service version I got from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2095097
The thing is: as I haven't unlocked my bootloader, and would like to keep it that way, I've been trying to install the safestrap recovery I got from here: http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/downloads/safestrap/
But up till now, I've been receiving a FAILED message when installing the rom in the rom-slot-1.
Don't know where i'm going wrong. Any ideas? Or any other way I could install the ----- Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean - 98.21.6.XT925.Brasil.en.BR -----
Service Version?
Thanks!
not sure if voodoo root keeper will survive jb 4.1.2 , look into that , also I suggest to post here

good luck man,
ok so in the past i have had HTC devices and Samsung devices.. and when there is a OTA sent out we always had to either unroot and flash back to complete stock to take the OTA.. Or wait for a dev to make a firwmware/radio zip with the junk takin out... so then i would just have to flash that and then flash a rom thats on the new OTA and i would be good.. So my question is how does this work on nexus phones? say google sends us an OTA.. how would i go about updating my phone to the new base? would i wait for a dev to make a zip with the new firmware/radio?? or does just flashing a rom thats on the new base work also cause i really dont want to unroot to take an OTA.. if i have i i guess i will... so how do us rooted folks update when a new OTA comes along
I would just wait for a rooted rom of the update and flash that.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You need a stock recovery and nothing more than root only. Any modifications to the rom what so ever, do NOT OTA.
There's an OTA helpdesk thread here somewhere that can help you

thats what im asking.. on other phone u would have to flash a fiwmware/radio zip that a dev would make.. then flash the new ota rom... so your saying that when a OTA comes all i have to do is flash a rom that the OTA is based from?? i dont have to flash a new firmware or radio??

You should never have to flash a radio if you don't want.
It gets confusing when you use the word firmware though. Most android handset manufacturers will refer to a rom as firmware. Although to me, this is technically incorrect - im not going to argue with them.
However, some US carriers for some phones deliver their updates in "firmware" and / or "apps". This confuses people even more so I prefer not to use "firmware" as a term.
An OTA update could include any of the following
- bootloader
- recovery
- radio
- kernel
- apps
- part of the rom
Every ota is added to an updated full rom though so if rooted, best sticking with those

thats not entirely true.
you can still have a custom recovery, but when the OTA asks you to reboot to install, it only takes you to the recovery screen and you need to find the file and flash it manually.
it will install fine however using a custom recovery.
i still dont understand.. what i have to do when a OTA comes.. how do i update my nexus to the new OTA?? so i just flash a rom thats on the OTA thats it?

it depends on how much modding you have done to your phone.
1) just root and still stock recovery - nothing it will download and install properly
2) just root AND custom recovery - it will download correctly, but when the phone reboots to install, you will need to manually find the OTA file and install it
3) any system modifications - the ota will not install and you will need to go back to the stock rom
4) custom rom installed - you need to either a) wait for the rom to be updated to the OTA version or b) return to stock.

Yes this I know but an ota also can include an updated recovery. Im trying mainly to convey ota +root not a good idea if you don't know what you're doing

No that's exactly the same. If you have a CUSTOM rom, wait for dev to update his rom and flash it.
If you have a stock rooted but unmodified rom, you can have ota (but wouldn't recommend it). This is same as S4, S3 etc...

Im all set now!! LiquidSolstice spit his knowledge to me.. now i understand how it works on nexus phones... alot diff then htc..samsung.. thanks LiquidSolstice:good:
Hmmm much confusion in this thread. I come from Samsung and HTC. What I have said is universal. I cannot understand what you have read to the contrary so lets just forget it now - but in regards to flashing custom roms, flashing radios and receiving OTA updates - the principles of this phone are the same as every other android phone.
Probably have a read of the sticky thread at the top of the q&a. Lots of root information to help understand things
