I really like how Samsungs offer the battery percentage by the single digits versus motorola with the increments of 10. My friend has a Samsung Fascinate and he has the battery percentage over the battery icon in the upper right hand corner of the notification bar. I really want that too, and i have sent Jrummy16 numerous emails (the developer of liberty tool box, root tools, etc...) about possible dev support for the droid charge, and getting that battery percentage. But he doesn't respond to emails, so i've given up on his help. Does anybody else know about any method of getting that besides an app or a wiget?

you would be better off contacting individuals who work on samsung devices vs moto ones...but regardless...its just changing 3 xmls files in framework-res and adding the 120+ images for accurate battery
however no one is going to do this until you have recovery released...because w/o backups the chance of soft bricking is too high

well until you have a 100% functional cwr i doubt anyone will take it on....although its not really difficult at all
hmm... well i dont know who i should be contacting to get some information or help with this task. I don't know what needs to be done in order to obtain it. So i guess i'll just wait until somebody comes out with a ROM for it, usually samsung ROM's have come with that feature built in.

Once you guys have recovery ill do it.unless any themers or devs who have the charge get to it first....just would need people to test it since I don't have a charge to try it myself
so wait... what is it you need? do you need me to send you the recovery file so you can edit it? just tell what you need, and i'll try to get it to you. I'm more than willing to test it with my phone.

She is afraid of it being bricked or having some issue with it down the road that i would have to send it out and it having to be worked on and DATA TECH seeing that it has done.. has there been any issues with the froyo update bricking phones i've looked and looked and not seen that it has.. also rolling it back to stock hasnt had and issues either has it ...
None that I know about. Besides you can always do an odin restore to 2.1 and it will be like it just came out of the box.

I work for US Cellular. This phone is my work phone, and I develop on it. I'm 99.9% positive that you cannot brick these phones by rooting and updating them, or flashing anything to them for that matter. As long as you follow directions you should be fine. When using Odin, don't flash anything to the Phone portion. Only flash to the Pit and PDA portions. Also, never flash anything that isn't for the Mesmerize. I don't care that other people have not had problems with it, It's not worth the risk to the average person. Also, read everything that you can and ask questions.
Come hang out in the irc room with us if you need anything.
Thank you...so far froyo is working well haven't rooted yet.. What are the benifits to rooting?

Rooting allows you the ability to get to the root directory, run apps that you couldn't run before, and other features that you normally would have. It's a hand thing to do.
Rooting shouldn't brick your phone.

Yes after rooting you can download from the market adfree that will remove most ads. The what I like to use is titanium backup to remove or freeze the bloatware. By freezing it is removes it from the app drawer. But is still on the phone encase you need it later say for warrenty. But now with the Odin files for our phones you can delete the bloat and do a resort in you must warrenty it.

Adfree is awesome,
And another really good way to get rid of bloat is to use the pick'n'pack roms. All the instructions are on the post in the android dev section.
And rooting/ flashing shouldn't be frowned upon by a lot of people at us cell / samsung- a lot of those are people that have a passion for phones and do the same thing

EDIT: I also broke the gummycharged boot animation but its not really a problem.

its not just the calendar apk there's also a 'calendarprovider.apk' or something you need to push in there as well (I don't know much about the stock apps or transferring them as I usually either don't use them or just stick with the ones that come with the rom )
hmm I don't think any of this should break the boot animation though..

Really liking this one so far. The power management tools are really nice, and so are the themes, I just wish I could read Chinese - the theme manager is great, but the TapasHot app store or whatever seems to confuse me Also, whenever you update the OP, you might take out "wifi" under major bugs, since it's fixed already.

Ok I followed the instructions for installing the rom and love it but, I lost all contacts on sim card. I'm guessing I might have made a mistake. Can anyone suggest a way of recovering them? By the way they were saved to sim.
You didn't save them to Google?
There's no recovery if they're wiped from you're sim .....try saving them to Google next time, you'll be glad you did.
just flashed a different rom and they are on the sim and show up but for some reason they wouldnt show up in tapasOS even when I tried to import them from sim it would say there wasnt any.Would like to use this rom.
Like I said....back them up on Google...and use this rom if that's what your hang up is...if your not gonna use this rom based solely cuz it wont read your contacts from your sim...then your comment about really wanna use this rom isn't true when there's several ways of backing up your contacts and making it happen.
That is such a BS statement if I ever heard one..."I would like to use this rom". But do nothing on your own to make it happen..
Come on people use some common sense and do something on your own without someone holding your hand.
I have been trying to remedy this on my own all day by reading and trial and error. I guess you can feel like a tough guy behind the internet.
Dyin' over here! I
To rephrase the advice given earlier (since sixstring will likely cut out all of those posts later) in whatever rom will read your contacts, back them up to your Gmail account. That way, you'll always have access to them on any rom.

Verizon can see if you are rooted and any custom rom or modified kernel you are using. They have full access to all the information in the "about phone" screen in settings. If they wanted to deny a warranty claim due to being rooted, all they would have to do is look on their systems and see what you were running.

They can see your radio version every time you connect to their towers, They can see your software/kernel/baseband if they like through the information your phone sends to them as you use it. Also they still have stuff like Carrier IQ on phones that COULD even read you your text messages if they wanted. Dont think they cant see it because they can. They just dont let you know they can because it could be considered illegal.

Seeing the radio version doesn't tell any carrier that someone is rooted. Being rooted is software related not radio related. Not unless custom radios are around, which is not available for the tbolt and im sure not for any other phone for that matter.
The only info phones send to the network is account information so the tower knows whether or not to provide service. That's it.
If they knew more details about a device then they would have no reason to ask us about our phone. They wouldn't waste their time as the info would pop up on their computer screens. If they saw anything other than the latest official OTA, then they would tell you that they can't do anything and that you voided your warranty so even switching back to stock won't make them change their mind.
The fact they would "waste" time to find out every detail from you pretty much sums up that this info is NOT available to them. CSRs like to help the customer as quickly as possible to get them off the line and help the next. And at this moment, asking customers about their phones is the quickest way.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
So you think that those little forum signatures that can tell you what OS you are running, what browser and even your IP know more about your phone than your carrier?
Must be nice to be that gullible.
Think what you will, I know for a fact they can see the information. They literally don't care. The warranty is through another company and has nothing to do with Verizon. It is also perfectly legal to root your phone and do what you want with it as of July 26 2010 http://www.androidguys.com/2010/07/26/rooting-android-phone-longer-crime/
The only thing it does is void any extended warranty you bought. So do restore to stock for returns to asurion and the likes.
They ask you because the lower tier CS people do not have access to your phone information, if you are escalated enough you will eventually find someone who can and will rattle off all your information to you.
If you can provide proof then I will take back what I said and apologize. I've played dumb before in the past just to see if it was possible for tier 2 and 3 (technical departments) to know this information. I simply stated that I didn't know how to access the about phone section. They tried to "help" me access this section and i pretended I was getting frustrated. I asked them to see if there was a way for them to see it on their systems and they told me no. They couldn't "help" me with my pretend issue unless I gave them this info. So all I was given was generic troubleshooting tips. They then stated to take it to the store for the CSR to look at my phone for the software version. I did this on a couple of occasions just to get a different Rep each time.
Yes, your mobile browser sends browser info to a website, and OS info. User agent strings are sent so that a website will know how to display the website on the browser. You can easily set the user agent to the stock HTC user agent. But this is irrelevant to Verizon as I can install different browsers on my phone which have unique user agents for each one. Just because my phone sends a dolphin user agent or maxathon user agent and not the stock HTC user agent, this does not imply I am rooted.
OS version is very easy to hack. You can edit this by going to the build.prop and change the OS version to the stock version and I'm sure there is a hack to fake the kernal (you might have to recompile the kernal to change the name)
All the IP address provides is the owner of the IP address (i.e. verizon) and in some cases, the general location of where the IP is being used. Verizon's LTE/EHRPD network use private IP addresses so it would be difficult to pin point a phone or information based on IP. This network uses Dynamic IPs so your IP will not be the same all the time. You have to pay extra to get a static address (business account). It is illegal to use an IP to gain access to any additional information unless a court order demands this.
The point of this is that you can pretty much make your rooted phone appear stock if it was really necessary to do so. Its a variant of Linux and Linux is very easy to work with if you know what you are doing.

Yup, does anyone just randomly do this though?
Sorry to cause the topic to get sidetracked like this, I was just trying to point out that Verizon don't care if we root or not.

If you can root your phone, then its a start. Your typical average user doesn't know what root means or even care what possibilities exist. I am pretty much the only person at my job who is rooted and I've had people ask me how I got my phone to look a certain way and they want their phone like this. When I explain the root process, they say screw that. Most people I know who are rooted know exactly what they can do with a rooted device. And new comers to rooting eventually pick up speed. Linux may be intimidating at first, but once you play around, you see how easy it is.
