[Q] Need Help Please - G Tablet General

Hi Friends,
I don't post here much, I just bought one of these tablets and got it to work perfect through some amazing instructions here. I'm not much of a smart guy when it comes to this really complicated coding etc. so I don't contribute much but I need a little help.
My table is stuck in the Viewsonic start up screen. I tried booting into clockwork and it says it will but then just reboots right back to viewsonic screen. (screen shot provided) I have zero clue on what to do and think it may be hosed.
Can you anyone help? Has anyone had this issue?
Thanks a million for your help.

Did you attempt any of the fixes that are posted in the forums?
Repartition?
Wipe chaches?
Reflash the rom you're using?
Try the repartion first
2048 for first option, then 0 for second.

I cant get into any function at all. Thats the only screen I see. When I press power volume + and it says its going to boot into clockworm but it jst flashes the screen and back to main screen. Its basically stuck there. : (

apologies, I missed that part
Sounds like a job for NVFlash...but I've never used that either

try use power and volume - to boot into apx mode, and nvflash it with ur computer?

Yup, sounds like you need to nvflash. There are posts here that guide you how to do this. Don't be intimidated. The whole process is actually very easy.

Thank you all for your assistance!
I'm going to give NFlash a try and report back.
I sincerely appreciate all the advice.
Again, thank you!

You guys ROCK! I was able to restore everything using NvFlash! I went into APX mode, restored the drivers, then used the .bat file and BAM! Then logged on to the wireless and downloaded the latest 3588 (I believe). I'm back up and operational!
This site is a Godsend! Time to make a donation!
Thank you so much guys! It was so easy with the step by step directions a caveman can do it.
Again, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your question has nothing to do with the original poster's question so you should start a new thread with a descriptive title.
It is not likely anyone will see your post here except accidentally. Also, search for "linux" and you will find a few threads covering it.

Yup NVFlash is the way to go. Saved me much frustration several times when I thought I just flushed $300 down the drain.

[Q] G2x stuck at LG logo/cannot access recovery

Hey all
Before anyone mentions that i should be searching around more, i would like to say that i've been on multiple threads and they all state the same thing (use NVflash to flash CWM and then boot into CWM but the solution did not work for me past flashing CWM and then trying to access recovery after) and i wasn't able to find one that had a similar problem as mine.
I have CWM flashed through NVflash and was running CM7.1 RC1. I took a screenshot with the 'shootme' app and proceeded to look at the gallery to make sure it came out okay. The gallery crashed and i was sent to the home screen. I swiped to a different homescreen when my phone froze halfway through the transition to the next screen. No combination of buttons/long presses were able to get me out of it so i went ahead and did a battery pull. So my dilemma is that now i'm stuck at the LG boot logo with no blue status bar under it. It freezes there and will not do anything every time i boot up. volume down+power does not give me access to recovery nor does any other button combo get me past the LG boot logo.
Are there any other methods i might be able to use like ADB or what not to get myself out of this situation? or at least into recovery? Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as i've been searching for hours with little help and my eyes are starting to get strained.
hmmm.. I know it's a simple question, but I gotta ask.. are you holding the pwr and volume down button long enough? you have to keep holding it even after you see the LG screen.. Keep holding until you see the 2nd screen?
If so.. do the nvflash again? Edit: Not sure if I would do this without getting further guidance tho..

This. I remember when I boot looped my phone I had the problem of letting go of the volume key too early, you need to hold down volume and power from a totally powered off phone until recovery actually starts and you see the green "android" logo of CWM.
Try re-flashing CWM, NVFlash CAN fail. There is literally nothing you can do within the OS that will prevent recovery from working. Either you did something wrong somewhere along the recovery process or you discovered an entirely new problem with the phone. I'm going to hazard a guess and say it's the former.
Thanks for the response guys. I wish that it was the case of not holding the buttons long enough. I have tried numerous times with the buttons held down for a long period of time. I even held the combo down for almost 5 minutes a few times.
Every time i try to boot up, it won't go past the LG boot screen so i would pull the battery out and go through flashing CWM through NVflash again. I'm sure I'm not missing anything because everything goes through and gets sent to the phone successfully.
I did happen to run into a thread that was closely similar to mine but his method was to just keep reflashing CWM and the stock recovery back and forth every time it failed until it turned on. I might have to try that if i cannot figure out this problem out soon. Not being able to use this phone is killing me! heh.
I just joined your club. Wow this sucks.
So apparently this is a whole new problem that's been found? Every other help thread seems to point to using NVflash or remaking the partitions due to a bad flash using an O2x based file instead of G2x.
But none of those solutions come close to doing anything. There has been some people with the same problem as me but aren't proactive at all enough to get someone's attention, so i'm guessing this problem is getting pushed to the side with people just going about getting their phones replaces/buying new ones.
I did happen to run into a thread on paulobrien/modaco's forum that had people using NVflash to get out of any sticky situation like this. It just reverts everything back to the stock factory settings but with root. We cannot use this though because he hasn't built it to be compatible with our LGP999's because everything was built for their UK LGP990's. Maybe that's a start to getting this solution fixed?
I hate to say this, bit you might have to call t mobile and get a replacement. Flash back to stock recovery and they won't know you messed with anything.

Don't send back....you'll get same defacement a battery pull go into nvflah and go back stock then flash nv flash fix pArtitions
As I have mentioned before, NVflash does NOT give me access to my recovery let alone solve anything else. NVflash DOES work and does sucessfully send both CWM and the stock recovery but when I try to boot into either of them, let alone just power on normally, it simply DOES NOT go past the LG boot screen. it just hangs there doing nothing at all until I pull the battery out and do the same process over until it just hangs again.
while it is on/stuck at the LG screen, my computer does not recognize it so i cannot even try and run ADB commands. It does however, recognize it when I plug it in using the volume buttons held down when I use NVflash but there's nothing else I can do besides use NVflash obviously.

Did you ever find a solution to this issue? Because my phone is doing this...
I attempted to restore my phone back to the wrong backup that was from a galaxy sII (2.3.4 i think); needless to say, the restore failed. I then restarted my phone from CWM and it gets stuck at LG screen.
I have tried to NVflash back to stock; nothing. same thing reflashing back to CWM.
ideas?
have you tried this link out yet?

From what I heard is that you need to remove the battery, then boot into recovery or something.

Use smartflash for the p990 but only use the p999 ap.bin file which will put the rom and kernel back to stock p999.
Rom for recovery always fixes any soft brick back to stock 2.3.3 OTA. It's saved my phone multiple times from stuck on S/W screen to being stuck on lg logo or even the dreaded can't mount sdcard-cache errors in cwm.

I used the following method when Clockworkmod became corrupted and was unable to mount my sd card. I had just wiped everything on my phone intending to install a new rom when the issue happened. I could not even get to the S/W upgrade screen. It saved my phone. Hope it works for you.

Kwes1020 pointed me in the right direction last week. Be sure to give a thanks to ILUHA_89 who came up with the fix.
Amazing how people are soo lost without providing them link after link to other threads. They are soo lazy and can't follow simple directions, each time i get a new phone i go to that section on xda and soak up all the information as it usually is already there. It's just funny is all i guess.

It's really not that big a deal. I was brand new to android once and asked all sorts of things.
I, like you, happen to read everything I can get my hands on. Some struggle going through all the info. I was here the day the forum opened, so I kind of remember where everything is.
Some are lazy and others just have no idea what the heck is going on and are intimidated by certain processes. I would rather help someone instead of listening to them ***** about their broken phone.

[Q] CM7 Not Going Beyond Loading Screen AND Clockworkmod Is Black

A couple of weeks ago I decided to root my phone for the benefits it came with. I did so successfully and had no problems until I decided I'd let my curiosity get the better of me and try flashing CM7 onto my phone. I did so, and everything seemed successful, but I got stuck in a boot loop when I turned on the phone.
I know there are solutions to this, but they all involve either CWM or ADB. Just two problems: I can't use ADB because I forgot to leave USB Debugging on, and I can't seem to get CWM to do anything (it's just a black screen).
There are solutions to all of these problems individually, I know, but each solution relies on at least one of the others to be working. I've been surfing this forum and others like it hoping that someone else would have this problem and would have a solution for me, but I've come up dry.
I used attn1's Ace Hack to root my phone, and then I used Rom Manager to install CM7. Then I hit the loop. Also, my CWM was working prior to CM7.
Does anyone know what I should do?
Thank you in advance,
JW
Inspire 4g
P.S. - I'm new to this forum and don't really know the rules perfectly, so if I did something wrong, then please just let me know what I did and what I should've done. Thank you.
But you can still get in hboot right?
It sounds like you did not choose to wipe data and cache. You always need to do this when changing roms. Best way is to enter cwm yourself and select wipe data/factory reset and wipe dalvik then flash Rom.
Pull you battery for a little bit then try and get into recovery again. If you still can't get in then you will have to reflash your recovery through bootloader.
If all else fails you can use the tool in this link to return to stock. Then re root you phone. genes tool

No, I didn't think to. To be honest, I saw Rom Manager and thought I would just be able to click on what I wanted and have it ready to play with in a few minutes. I never read what to do before the installation, which was my huge mistake.
Anyhow, I don't think I can get into HBoot. When I turn the phone on with power button and volume button, it vibrates three times, but then it goes to a black screen. I read about this problem with CWM, but the only solutions I saw involved getting into your phone - which I can't do.
So I'm wondering if CWM still works but that it just doesn't show what it's doing. If that's the case, then maybe I could still manage to fix my phone with CWM. Does anyone know if such is the case?
Thank you!

this is correct, but you may want to pull out your sd card first. if it still has the pd98img on there,,, its just gonna loop ya. so pull it out before trying, you can always stick it back in once you get to recovery, then select mount> sd card

I5801 Bricked Without Flashing

Hi all
Yesterday, I rooted my I5801 (on Orange network) using z4root. Everything went as expected and I used Titanium Backup to remove all of the horrible Orange game demos/bloatware etc. After doing this, everything was working fine and I used the phone for all of today without issue.
I became curious reading about the key-combo for recovery mode and (stupidly) thought I'd take a look. I forgot the exact key-combo, so I just turned the phone off and tried holding vol up + vol down + home + power. Now whenever I try to start the phone, I get a yellow exclamation mark in a white triangle with the Android below. If I push the home button while on this screen I get an open box with an arrow pointing out of it and what looks like a progress bar below that, but it just takes me right back to the exclamation mark screen.
I can get into Download Mode by taking the battery out, putting it back in and holding vol down + power, if this helps.
I've read that it should be possible to reflash, but I really want to try and avoid this if possible, as I don't see why my OS would have died without trying to reflash in the first place.
Is it possible to get back into the OS without reflashing? And if I do need to reflash, can anyone make any recommendations?
Thanks in advance for any answers!
Welcome to the forum
First of all, thats a weird story you got there I have no idea what happened to your phone to be honest. The fact that you can get into download mode is a good sign, it means your phone is not hardbricked (yet) .
I really don't know how I would get around this problem without reflashing, maybe someone else knows a possible solution? I think flashing a new Rom (Android OS) is the way to go. Do you know the buildnumber of your current Rom? You can search for your current Rom in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1063940. Download it and flash it with Odin via pc to your phone (while in download mode). That should fix it, its a pretty drastic method though.
Good luck
BTW: I'd prefer One-click-root as a method for rooting in the future, you need software on pc to do that. But thats my opinion.
Thanks for the reply! I'm not sure which build I was on.
I'm going to try and put on I5800XXJPU with Odin found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497261
Hopefully because there is no bootloader this won't hardbrick my phone!

In fact, I've just read that if you're going from Eclair (I was definitely on Eclair) to Froyo (which I believe that ROM is) then you need to have a ROM with a bootloader for it to work.
Guess I'll try Kyrillos!

Well yeah, I guess you're right... I still really don't quite understand what's up with bootloaders.
never heard about "coming from eclair, bootloader ROM needed for froyo update"!
My original FW was also eclair and I never ever flashed a bootloader!
But try and see if you get a brick with flashing a bootloader! I wouldn´t dare doing that, but it´s up to you.
I would open another thread and ask specially that question. Why?
Then you get more opinions to make your choice.
Good luck and keep us informed about the progress.
Sorted, I ended up giving the phone to a friend who is more phone competent than myself!
Here's the solution:

First of all going into download , must hold home + vol down + power , that's first mistake. Nothing bad happened to your phone yet , go and reflash any froyo with or without bootloader i did it countless times when no one on this forum had a firmware without bootloader starting from old JPF , yes there is a risk but the reflashing is the only solution Good Luck

Soft Brick, Read Soft Brick Threads

I've read all the soft brick threads I could get my hands on. If I missed something, I'm sorry for that in advanced.
Symptoms: When power button held down, "Samsung" appears in white, then switches to the blue glowing "Samsung" won't turn off unless I pull the battery. I cannot access the download menu.
What the [email protected]%$ did I do?: I was following the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28350575&postcount=1 and I finished step 6 and started step 7. On step 7 it wiped the data but froze on the cache. After 2 hours of waiting for it to clear I tried a hard reset and hear I am.
Any ideas to try and fix this? Thank you for your assistance in advance.

Ok but what version?
I am only aware of one version of CWM that works correctly and that's 5.8.1.3. Lots of recoveries seem to have issues wiping the cache which results in soft brick issues.
Follow these steps:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/touch-clockworkmod-recovery-for-rogers-and-att-skyrocket-sgh-i727/
Then try wiping your cache again, and reboot. If all is well, then re-try the steps to flash Embryo.
Power button isn't stuck.
Sorry, I couldn't access and so don't know what version of cwm but that did look familiar. Was trying Touch Recovery. I'll follow the steps on the link.
That fixed it perfectly. Thank you for your assistance.

Great, good to hear it's sorted out.
By download menu are you referring to Download mode used with Odin, or recovery menu?
The phone can be finicky with getting into recovery sometimes, I find this exact sequence of steps to always work:
Hold down vol+ and vol-
Hold down power
Wait for phone to vibrate once every 2 seconds
Release power, continue holding vol+ and vol-
Recovery should load.
Otherwise, I have no idea.

Edit: How did you get into download mode to flash touch CWM 5.8.1.3 if download mode wasn't working? It sounded to me like the phone was bootlooping/locking up due to cache issues. As far as I know download mode can only be accessed starting from a state of OFF and not mid boot if that's what you were trying?

I've learned quite a bit just by reading development threads for various roms and trying them out, and reading the Q&A forum to see what issues people are having. But there is a lot to learn, I haven't tried any development as of yet..
For the most part just follow steps in the ROM threads verbatim and you should not have too many issues, now that you have a working recovery that is.
Yea, I should do some more reading on here. I love learning this new stuff anyway. I've gotta get to work but thank you for your help. let me know if there are any threads that you found particularly helpful besides the basics. Good night.

[Q] CyanogenMod messed up my Infuse??

So I was curious about the CyanogenMod, and wanted it for my Infuse 4G. I downloaded the zip file and stored it onto my phone. I went into recovery mode (power button + volume down and up) and unzipped the file from there. It worked great for awhile, but this is the second time this has happened....It will randomly turn of, and seem to reboot when "Samsung" appears on the screen. It the goes to the next screen where "Cyanogen(mod)" appears, then it just loops and does the same thing repeatedly. I have no idea why it's doing this, but I need help!!!!! What can I do???
A little more detail may come in handy. Exactly which CyanogenMod ROM did you flash? What was the full procedure you followed? Also, why would you unzip the file when in recovery mode? ROMs aren't meant to be unzipped, they're flashed while in .zip format. I'd recommend reverting back to stock, with Heimdall, and starting over again. This time, don't unzip anything.
---------- Post added at 03:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:17 PM ----------
If you want to go back to stock, all the downloads and instructions you need are in the first 2 posts of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629079&highlight=uclb3
A few things could've caused this...over clocking (doubt it...our oc is pretty stable) under volting (very likely if he put it too low) and under clocking (also likely if it was put to low) or just bad luck
For a fix I suggest back to stock with any heimdall or Odin package

Spend a few hrs and through the Q/A sections to get your answer. It's all there...

edit: imho, CM in itself doesn't messes with anyone's phone. It is simply an optional firmware created by many talented individuals and their countless hours of hard work. It one wants to use it, there is a mandatory due diligence on the end users part. Search and read before you ask. The OP's title is also misleading. The simple answer to the op's title is "NO"
Thread cleaned, I suggest some of you to relax and help out else, don't post

So I was curious about the CyanogenMod, and wanted it for my Infuse 4G. I downloaded the zip file and stored it onto my phone. I went into recovery mode (power button + volume down and up) and unzipped the file from there. It worked great for awhile, but this is the second time this has happened....It will randomly turn of, and seem to reboot when "Samsung" appears on the screen. It the goes to the next screen where "Cyanogen(mod)" appears, then it just loops and does the same thing repeatedly. I have no idea why it's doing this, but I need help!!!!! What can I do???

Make sure you didn't dirty flash it and you wiped cache and delvik and did a restore just follow all the instructions. Also another thing to do is check the thread and see if theres anyone with a similar problem.

A few things could've caused this...over clocking (doubt it...our oc is pretty stable) under volting (very likely if he put it too low) and under clocking (also likely if it was put to low) or just bad luck
For a fix I suggest back to stock with any heimdall or Odin package

Thanks for the help, but I can't do that. I can't enter recovery mode at all. It makes it to the "cyanomod" screen, then loops from there. It will turn on to the Samsung screen, cyanogenmod screen, then turn off and back on again.
I'd say boot into download mode and flash stock using Odin and try to reflash cm again but make sure your following the instructions step by step

That almost sounds like a stuck power button. Does it start IMMEDIATELY running if you remove the battery and reinstall it after 30 seconds?
I'm having the exact same problem. Is there any sure way of fixing this?
