Go there.
From what i understand, it's pretty much getting administrator access to the phone. So you can change anything about it.
I dont know much about it, coming from iphone. Learning as i go.

[Q] New Inspire Owner First Time Android User Questions

I am loving this phone however I am not digging the lockdown that AT&T has put on it. I went with Android because I thought it was more open than iOS, the only smart device I really have any experience with thus far is a 2nd gen iPod touch. I know what I want from the phone but I'm not sure what I need seeing that a lot of the terminology is still greek to me. The only thing I'm pretty sure of is that rooting the phone is analogous to jailbreaking a iOS device. Things like flash, s-off, ROM, radio etc. start to get my head swimming.
I really just want to be able to get rid of the crap bloatware that is on the phone and be able to get apps from places other than the market (swype, amazon app store etc.) I like the sense UI and really like the features of the phone, I really just want to have more control over it. Also is it difficult to "unroot" the phone in case I need to have it serviced?
If anyone could lend insight I would be greatly appreciative. Even if you could point me to like a rooting android for dummies or anything like that would be great.
Google/youtube are your friend when it comes to learning. Also see the sticky in the inspire section of xda listing all roms etc. That sticky includes pretty much everything you need for your inspire.
As I was/still am an Android newbie, ill list some basics
Root - getting administrator rights to your phone, full control.
Rom - custom operating system for your phone, based off a stock Android OS, with mods, features, root, etc.
Kernel - used to relate operating system to hardware, control overclocking, etc.
Radio - software used to control communication, 3g, 4G, WiFi, etc.
Hacking the inspire is quite a bit more involved than jailbreaking an iPhone, as I also come from ios land, but there are good instructions and great help on xda!
Happy flashing!

Reading is your friend, I would say spend as much time as possible in the DEV section and read all of the things pertaining to rooting. If you read the threads completely and I mean every post you will find answers to every question you have.
There is no hurry in rooting your phone, it is not going anywhere and if you can live with the AT&T crapware for awhile you will learn alot. Pretty soon you will be ready to do it. It is always hard to take the first step but if you read everything you will be fine.
There is a very good FAQ section in the [DEV][GUI][RC2][GPL][3-21-2011] HTC Inspire 4G Simple One Click it will give you many answers to what you want to know and watch the rooting video on that thread also.
Good luck and have fun doing it because it is really more fun than what you may think.

+1.
Definitely stick to the hack kit and it's simple step-by-step process. Ignore the other methods that claim to be 'easy' and just follow that one carefully. It's the most reliable method with consistent results.
Make your own choice it is your phone and you have to do it, you spent the money so you make the decision's on what to do with it, not anyone else!!!

I definitely recommend that hack kit, and if you run into trouble you can join their irc channel for live help. They've helped me a couple of times in the past, great bunch.

I'm New to Android but Not Hacking (AT&T Samsung Captivate Questions)

Basically: what's bad ass? I know it's a general question, but it's the first thing I think of when I get a new device. First thing I did when I got a PSP? Figured out how to hack it/the firmware. iPhone? Jailbroke! Dreamcast (yeah even that far back)? Utopia!
So I kinda know what I'm talking about. But Android is such a huge/new thing to me, I have no idea where to start except maybe "rooting" which I've already done to the Captivate. However I know a little more than that, some friends of mine have Androids actually...
Anyways: I know you can modify the marketplace to get custom apps (which I'm assuming is being done by a custom rom), which is a concern of mine since I want to run my own appstore on it (not standalone, but hopefully you get what I mean) as well as develop apps. That stuff I can figure out, but this whole "flashing" ordeal has got me stuck. I'm trying to install the "MIUI" or at least that's what I think it is. here's the site (nevermind, new users can't post links...)
I'm stuck at basically step 4 of their instructions, but only because of step 5 and 6. Step 5 is for the CWM (which I can't figure out how to install, do I need a microSD?) and step 6 I'm confused on. The reason I'm confused is cause I'm on firmware 2.1-update1 and not 2.1. I see the difference, but is there an actual difference?
Any help would be awesome. I've been googling all night over this stupid stuff and want to get this phone up to par!

[Q] learn to root

I used to have an OG Droid that I rooted, but it was just following the directions on Cyanogenmod. Now I have the Samsung Admire (btw, I hate Metro PCS) and I want to root it, however it appears that no one has rooted it yet. So I figured I would learn to do it myself, but I don't know where to start. So my question is, how does one go about learning how to root a phone? What skills do I need to have, etc. Hate not having a rooted phone. Thanks for any help!
which version of Android?
Sorry. 2.3.4
build: gingerbread.eh02
before you make decision about root...please make sure that you will enjoy it..because as my experience, when you was root your phone, your journey in android has been start many problem (maybe) you will found..but for me, that's the challenge when I got try and error to make my phone just like what I want...
and please focus to learn all of tips and trick (not just in this forum) about how to root your phone..
finally, if you think all of your prepare was ready,,ROOT IT!!
sorry for my english...regards from Indonesia :shakehand
Oh I definitely want to root. My last phone was rooted (was running CM7 at time of death) and I got spoiled, haha. I'm not looking so much how to root my specific phone (as far as I know, it hasn't been safely done yet), but how to manipulate the OS's vulnerabilities to become super user myself. I guess more from the dev standpoint. Kinda hard to get across what I'm looking for I guess.
I would like to know as well. I want to root the Admire BAD. It brings a lot of Metro crapware. LOL.

Some very basic questions I rooted my galaxy skyrocket 2 android

I have the new skyrocket 2 galaxy phone. I managed to root it by my self. Was very hard. For me. First time first smart phone. I love it.
Anyways im wondering I got oneclick, clockwork. I got the basics. I backed up my apps. Here are some questions.
First. Where can I fully restore everything in case of a horrible mess up? Its already rooted.
I hate loosing what I did to the phone already and starting over with a fresh rom (I have to flash right) well is it worth it? Is there a rom that will really help speed my phone up? I use the hell out of it, I mean I use it for everything so more power would be great or better wifi or better battery life.
Also last basic question. Whats safe to remove that will help my phone speed up a bit. BloatWare. I don't want to brick my phone.
I am learning now but some help on these first questions would really help me get started. Just.. I rooted it now whats the basic of the basic I can do to it. If there is a good thread I should read let me know. I am so new to this.
Thank you I am a noob at this sorry in advanced I will read the forums as much as I can to answer my own questions. I just want to make sure if I mess up or a update comes or something I can put everything back to update then re root? Im not sure if this is like flashing a bios on a computer which I have done.
I no how to overclock computers. Its just I never did this stuff on a phone. Never had a smart phone. Thanks
That's quite a mouthful, mate. Remember, the search function is your friend. Probably in your case the best option. I've seen dozens of posts asking the same questions. Good luck.

[Q] I'm a NOOB in NEED of Advise from the BEST! I feel I've come 2 the right spot...

Hey guys, I've heard y'all are the Best! I have a couple of DUMB QUESTIONS. I HAVEA VERIZON MOTOROLA DROID ULTRA RED. I WANT TO ROOT. IM SCARED, I DONT KNOW WHAT IM DOING. DONT WANT TO BRICK MY PHONE. HOW CAN I SAFELY DO IT? IM A SINGLE FATHER OF 2, MOM DIED TWO YRS AGO. THEY USE MY MOBILE WIFI FOR HOMEWORK, FUN, ETC. WITHOUT IT THEY HAVE NO WAY OF DOING THE THINGS THEY ENJOY. THEY HAVE VERY LITTLE. I BARELY CAN AFFORD IT ANYMORE. BILLS FROM THE CARRIER AR INSANE! I NEED TO ROOT, BUT IM SCARED. WHAT DO I DO? ALSO IF I DID ROOT AND HAD MY WIFI, WOULD I STILL NEED MY 7 GBS OF DATA I PAY A TON OF CASH FOR? WOULD I NEED IT? IM DUMB ABOUT THIS STUFF...PLEASE HELP
You should calm down a little bit, if you really want to root your phone you should search in the forums for a good tutorial, and make sure you do everything as it shows. And are you sure that you need to root your phone? you should really know why do you want to root your phone before rooting it.
Rooting is totally unnecessary, dont sweat it. there is some things you can only do with root, but if you are unsure if you should or not, and dont have a clear reason of why to root, then dont bother. its a risky proccess, and for someone who probably is not a power user, there is no real reason.
and your internet data, (and calls and texts) are the same even if you do root, you will not have any changes, since that is on the sim card, not the phone itself, so even if you root, nothing will happen to your gb.
Press Thanks if i helped!
Like all other's reply, I would also suggest you to keep calm and stay happy.
And about rooting your phone, Rooting isnt neccessary for you as you are handing it to your children the most, so just keep your phone as it is.
Good luck with your life. And again keep SMILING
