[Q] Is it a must I have a sim card? - HTC Inspire 4G

I've seen a couple of threads but no one has given a answer! I have a brand new htc inspire 4g from att and no sim card, which I really don't need becuase I've got Tmobile. I want to try and root the phone so I can use Tmobile's sim card and unlock the GSM networks. Is it possible to root the phone without a sim card? And/or can I use my tmobile sim card to root the phone even if its saying network locked?

Although I haven't done it myself, I'm sure it's possible to root without using a sim card.

No you don't need to have a sim card in to root your phone

42 is a reference to the Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy: -I was going to post a link to the wikipedia article, but apparently i'm a new user-
The short answer is no, you don't need a sim in to root and unlock. I did it recently

I rooted two inspires without simcards. Used Attn1's hack kit (whatever latest was at the time).

OK, I thought it was funny. I love that book. I get the same response though when someone asks a question and I answer it with 42.
And to the OP, yes you can root without a sim card.

Look around, there are numerous guides you can use, to downgrade then root an install a rom.

I would go to Xda Home Page and click on "wiki". From there, select HTC Glacier, & then follow the downgrade guide. After successfully downgrading to Froyo, then (still in the wiki section), find the Ultimate S-off guide and follow it. You will use visionary to temp root, and gfree to get s-off, then visionary to perma root...at least that's what I did. It sounds complicated, but once you get all your files in place and installed on you pc & phone, it takes 10 minutes tops..
** First,I am all for rooting, and I am entirely comfortable doing it. However, if I were you, I would read some of peoples posts that have had issues, to make yourself familiar with the process, so that you might learn from what they did wrong. Just search the forums for downgrading..and rooting. Spend a couple hours reading, it is something I failed to do, and nearly messed up! It's only a suggestion, but it helps if you sorta understand what you are doing. I don't want you to brick your phone & think I talked you into jumping in too fast! Just realize that while I wouldn't hesitate to root a brand new one if I had it, THERE IS A CHANCE OF BRICKING YOUR DEVICE! **
Good Luck..

Nexus S - My question relates to and belongs on a closed thread

I just bought a Samsung Nexus S - Model number I9020A - The phone is unlocked - it has no SD Card and it will not access 3G only EDGE.
Is there anyway to upgrade this model phone to the new Android OS?
I plan to use the phone on T-mobile in the US and other carriers in Brazil and Europe.
Other than to return the phone, does anyone have a recommendation about making the phone access 3G and operate without an SD card?
Thanks in advance.

Puzzled - You are not sure I am serious about my question
Of course my question is serious. I would not ask a question like that and not expect a serious answer.
Maybe I came to the wrong place to find a solution.
Sorry about that.
the phone doesnt have a physical sd card, it has a 16gb memory built in. even if it did have a physical one, any phone can run without one. as for updating the phone, as long as its completely stock you should have no problem connecting to wifi and getting the OTA.

Hi, I can download the current version of Android to a computer. But the directions tell me to transfer the data to an SD card. I have no card. Is it still possible to put the current version of Android on my phone without it being over the air?
If so, where I can find instructions for this? Thanks
think of the phone as a flash drive
all you need is a cable to plug it into the computer. this should help

I think you have a lot of research and exploring to do before you attemp this. If this step is confusing then you are sure to be confused later on. Read, read it again, read another thread, try, then ask for help.

Information Photon Q in Europe

Hello to all,
I'm new here, I come from France and I would like to replace my HTC G2 by Photon Q. It does not exist in Europe, unfortunately, so had to buy in the USA.
Before making this purchase I have several questions.
Is it possible to put a sim card in the phone to operate in GSM?
I'd like to know if I take a phone with a bad ESN, I can still make it work on the French network in GSM?
You can choose the language other than English or Spanish?
thank you in advance for your return
You'll have to mod the Photon Q to be able to put a SIM Card in it.
More information -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1929143
Bad ESN, good ESN, it doesn't matter if you want to use it in europe.
With a Custom ROM (CM 10.1 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2255134 ) you are able to choose different languages.
A Custom ROM is no problem since you'll lose your warranty after the SIM Card mod.
ok thank you, but it will not be possible to keep the SIM card in the phone.

[Q] Problems Network Unlocking Samsung S4

Hi Guys,
I'm a new poster but long time reader.
I hope someone can assist; I have been trying for a good few hours to allow my S4 (GT-I9505) to accept any Sim card.
Currently, when it's turned on it will give the message:
SIM Unlock Network PIN
You get the following options:
<Unlock>
<Dismiss>
It's a UK Phone originally from the EE network.
The Phone used to have a stock EE Firmware version 4.4.2 (I9505XXUGNI2) I have since flashed this to the THREE network's 4.4.2 firmware (I9505XXUGNJ3) but unfortunately this didn't unlock it.
I have also tried a few Custom Roms and have rooted the device but don't really know where to go from here.
I have seen a few people mentioning that it can be done using *#0011# and a few other key codes but these don't work either.
When I try to get to the service menu (Hit Back then key input 1 then Back again) it does nothing.
Can anyone suggest what my next step would be? I'm more than happy to root or flash Roms or what ever it takes to get it unlocked.
I've searched the forums high and low but can't seem to find anything that relates to my situation.
Thanks,
S.
Uh, the EU legally forbid SIMlocks in 2003. There shouldn't be a SIMlock. That's very odd.
This really should be in the relevant thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282683

Many thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure if it is a SIM lock. More like a network lock. When the phone is turned on with a Non-EE SIM inserted, this message comes up:

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

}
The post you linked me to doesnt seem to work - I have tried the menu options many times but I think the service menu's must have been removed from 4.4.2 or I am doing something wrong.
Is there a way to simply unlock the phone so it will accept a SIM card from any Network?
Thanks again,
S
Changing ROMs won't do anything. Carrier locking is contained in a different part of the phone's firmware.
Contact EE and tell them you need an unlock code.

Update to 6.0 and keep unlock???

Have any of you with a Sprint Note 5 been able to update to Android 6.0 and keep your unlock? I got my phone unlocked today by onlineunlocks and im using it with cricket and dont want to update if im going to lose my unlock and possibly not be able to get it unlocked again.
Updating to 6.0 should have nothing to do with sim unlocking. Rooting yes. You should be fine.

I'm pretty sure you will lose lock because of the way it formats the phone partitions.
It really depends on how it was unlocked...... I'm unlocked and updated everything went well. I'm unlocked and on AT&T with LTE.
