[ROOT] G2x Root via SuperOneClick

UPDATE:
The SuperOneClick rooting method outlined in this thread currently only works for Android 2.2. It does not work with Gingerbread 2.3.3.
To root 2.3.3 -
1) Install CWM (ClockworkMod Recovery): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
2) Flash rooted ROM of your choice. Here is a stock rooted 2.3.3 ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748
Here's a brief guide on how to root the T-Mobile G2x. This assumes that you already have adb installed. If you do not, a quick search will point you in the right direction
Note: I take no credit for rooting the G2x. I am not the developer of SuperOneClick, and this is a simplified version of a guide already posted by domi007 in the O2x forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953182). I am just posting a guide in the G2x forum because no one else has yet.
1) Install ADB driver: http://www.junefabrics.com/bin2/LGDriver.exe
2) Enable USB debugging on your phone (Settings->Applications->Development), and connect your phone to your computer via USB.
3) Run SuperOneClick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
4) Choose the option "Root"

I apologize for the Windows only solution I've posted. Since I moved in with my girlfriend, Windows has weaseled it's way back into my household. However, there was a time when I wouldn't let a Windows box come within 100 yards of my place of residence.

Ha no problem. I can just install Parallels or Fusion today. I did manage to get SuperOneClick running on my mac using Mono. However, I don't see any way to install the LG drivers executable file on the Mac, so I doubt SOC will work in this manner without those drivers... not sure if I want to risk trying it.

Hey thanks for posting this! I currently own a G2, rooted with cm7. I'm planning on picking this beast up in-store on Wednesday and I'm already itching to root it and get a custom ROM on there.
One question though, does this method achieve a permanent root? My only experience with android thus far is the G2, which required an involved process to root. Is this phone just a lot easier to root for some reason??
And then as far as recoveries and ROM's I'm assuming those haven't been released for this phone yet, right??

Yes permanent root. This G2x is not as locked down as the G2, making the process a whole lot easier. And no, no recovery yet, just stay tuned to these forums.

Oh god yes

I already have ADB driver and SOC ready and I rooted few phones through this way.
It's good to know G2x can be rooted easily.

Nope. It will not.

Received the phone today, rooted it within 5 minutes within hooking up to the computer using the superoneclick tool.

I think it took longer to install the drivers, and SuperOneClick than it did to root the phone.

Alright good to know. Just wondering than if yall have a general idea how long it usually takes a device to get an unlock with root, I am not sure because this would be the first phone for me that I am getting close to the release date.

SIM unlocking and rooting the phone are two totally different things.

If you want to SIM unlock this phone, you can call t-mobile after you have purchased the phone, give them the IMEI number, and in about 2 weeks they will email you the unlock code for the phone.

Mine will be here today sometime.

Noob alert - Help with customizing

I am fairly new to android, the Epic is my first android phone purchased on launch day. But I am very new to HTC and the EVO Shift. I just purchased one for my wife. I was wondering if someone could point me to some instructions, or just give me some, on how to best install clockwork and a rom. Her phone came with the latest update. Basically I would prefer to remain stock with just root and wireless tether. If anyone could help me accomplish this I would greatly appreciate it.

You are going to have to look at the temp root thread that is right here in this forum since she is on the newest update. You are kind of limited to what you can do unless a permanent root solution is found. Wireless tether should work. I think you may be able to remove or freeze the bloat using somethin like titanium but it will probably come back when you reboot. Can't use any custom roms yet either...

The only root that has been gained on the evo shift GB update is temproot no perm root yet so on a simple reboot you lose root, there is no recovery and no custom roms while temp rooted, there are a couple threads dedicated to this stuff here already

Yeah I knew there was only temp root but I saw some roms that were gingerbread with root. So I didn't understand how that was. I thought maybe if you could get clockwork installed with temp root you could still flash a rom. So are the gingerbread roms only for people on froyo? Can you downgrade to froyo and upgrade to the gingerbread rom? Also what do you use to flash roms. With samsung you have odin. What do you use on htc? I see mention of ruu but have seen nothing on how to use it or where to get it. Sorry for so many questions and being really new to this side of the pond.

Flashing clockworkMod while temp rooted isn't going to work, as soon as your phone tries to reboot you lose root. So you can't access Clockwork, which is how/where you flash ROMs. Currently there is no way to revert back to froyo, the new bootloaders do not recognize the froyo RUU. Basically until a perm root solution is found, temp root is the best you can do.
The ROMs that you see are for user that rooted while running froyo and never took the "official" update from HTC.

Did you buy your phone brand new or used? Go to settings about phone, software information.
If you have Android 2.2 you can root your phone. Otherwise you are screwed until HTC unlocks the bootloader.

He said brand new so that means it came with 2.3.3

[Q] Noob Rooting Question

I just recently decided to purchase my first android phone. I'm completely new to rooting and I was wondering if someone could help me out.
A thread that I was reading mentioned downgrading the system image from Gingerbread 2.3.3 to 2.2.x to be able to root
I was wondering, does that mean that once a permanent root has been established that, 2.2.x Android will be running or is it only temporary for attaining the root and the device will be running 2.3.3 once it has been successfully rooted?

Once you root you have the option of loading custom ROM's. Depending on your phone these custom ROM's can be 2.2.1, 2.3.3, 2.3.4 and 2.3.5. So you will be running gingerbread if you please..just not stock.

I'm thinking about getting an HTC Panache and I was looking at this thread here:

So if I manage to root the phone, would sense UI be completely removed and replaced with only the basic android rom such as that on the Nexus series?

You can load a ROM without Sense, or one with Sense...its all about your preference. The panache is an amazing phone and you would not be disappointed. If you are a fan of the Nexus style ROM, Faux123 makes one for the panache (which is the MyTouch 4G in the us) that is absolutely amazing. And if you do like sense, can't go wrong with virtuous unity. Either way...there are A TON of ROM's available for that phone.

I wouldn't have thought so about going to an older version of OS, rooting is normally done via clockwork recovery & boot loaders, so unless the boot loader they use does not work with 2.3 then maybe but unlikely, clockwork recovery this wiki does not mention installing an older OS, I doubt you will be able to unless the phone is rooted.

Then once the phone is rooted you just install what ever ROM you want to install from the boot loader and install ROM from SD card.

I didn't want to start a new therad for this so here's my question:
I don't get what the SUPER CID is good for. Google tells me it allows you to flash any ROM onto it, even if the phone is branded. huh? I thought that's what S-off+root allows you to do?
I have a branded Sensation with s-off and root on stock rom. Should I do the SUPER CID thing and what is good for?

It is not really necessary. It is considered complete unlocking, but everything you want to do as far as custom ROM's you can accomplish in the state you are in now.

[Q] Updating while rooted

I have seen a few posts in regards to people asking about updating from a rooted device but I never seen the answer I been looking for.

IF say for example version 3.3 comes out.. IF I want to upgrade to version 3.3 from my rooted 3.2, Am I able to click upgrade when it announces it? While rooted and unlocked?
I am not using custom ROMS. I just followed those steps provided in the link above.
Do I have to restore to faculty settings, re-lock, then upgrade, then repeat the same process to root all over again? or can I just click upgrade.
Other posts started talking about having custom ROMs, and there wasn't a defendant answer that I saw that was reassuring to my question.

So far ive not had little success updating using the built in update feature, when 3.2 came out I tried updating but it crapped out when booting, so I had to delete the user data, loosing all my apps in the process. But this is based only on the update from 3.1 to 3.2 both stock roms. P.s. i used the same instructions u did on an AU Xoom.

If your Xoom is unlocked but also not rooted/completely stock, you can get OTA updates. If rooted, even stock rom/kernel, you don't get or can't install updates. But if rooted, never fear, our developers, including the Tiamat team have made the updates available to us super fast.
Anyway, you never need to re-lock unless you plan to return the Xoom under warranty, for repair or replacement.

no offense but it sounds like you don't know much bout this sort of stuff...you believe that you are not using custom rom but are not sure?? You need to read up and figure out the basics...if you are using custom rom..absolutely do not accept an over the air update. Read up on what you are doing unless you want a600 dollar paperweight

I am actually more than 100% sure I am not using a custom ROM..
I never downloaded any custom ROMs to be honest that’s how I know.
The only thing I wasn’t sure of at first was the ADB commands but when I was rooting for the first time. But after I read the tutorials it was as easy as riding a bike. As for the small Linux commands used in the shell, from the tutorial that I followed, seemed pretty super basic. I had been using Linux for 6 years, recompiling kernels etc so I don’t have any doubts...
I am not too worried about bricking anything… My question was only related to the OTA updates with the rooted stocked. That’s all.

So, i have searched all over the forums for the solution to my problem but since this phone is rather new i see no one has taken the time to even get into this phone(or at least dont even care )
so i have this new lg mytouch phone from t-mobile and by doing some hard research i have perm root my phone. I am a noob to this but i'm also a quick learner and posses common sense of computers an software. But anyway i need any genius to help me now with modding this phone. I'm trying to get cm7 rom, speed demon kernel, and clockwork.

Wouldn't we need to unlock the bootloader first in order to install CWM? Even then, wouldn't we also need a custom version of it made for this phone? Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't we have to do this first before any modding can get done?

i don't know to much about boot loaders but i was able to root my phone without unlocking the boot loader. But if i do need it unlocked, i would need to be ran through how to do it for my phone. An i suppose a custom CWM would have to be made unless another version would be compatible with it

There is currently no known ways of unlocking the bootloader for this phone.

If you mean factory rest your lg mytouch then all you do is go to setting>privacy>factory data reset

Yes that would be correct. But it would be great if this phone's boot loader was similar to another phone's boot loader so that i can test the settings to see if the commands would work. Then no really hard work would have to be done i guess But I also just opened up this topic so if someone is working on a solutionn soon us lg mytouch users can be notified of its coming arrival.

ive rooted this phone.. Havent had time to tinker with anything yet though i just rooted a couple hours ago. Will let you know.

can anyone plz tell me how to get my lg mytouch into recovery mode with out having to go into rom manager cuz i tried to flash cm7 on it but it dint work and now is stuck in a boot loop i have a backup but now i cant go into recovery mode!! plzzzz!!! help!!
