Flashed ROM (Continnum) and download speeds horrible but uploads are great - Captivate General

I used whatever modem was packaged with the latest Continnum and download speeds were horrible but I was seeing 1Mbps upload with 'H' enabled.
Someone in the modem thread was from my area (Arkansas) and he flashed KC1 and liked it but I'm still seeing sub 1Mbps uploads when on the leaked Froyo I'd see up to 3Mbps
What gives?
I've made sure I'm on the 850 band

Maybe you should post in the modem thread.

I am experiencing the same thing? Good upload, alright download.
I have tried flashing the latest modem for gingerbread with almost same outcome.

I posted in the modem thread.
I've tried JK4, KC1 and whatever Cont came with.
I've switched bands from automatic to 850/CDMA only. Same results. I used to pull 3Mbps on whatever the leaked Froyo (one click DG file) came with.
What the hell

Please dont open multi threads about the same issues

Flash another radio file

Okay so i been playing with the captivate for a little bit and i remember my nexus days we was able to flash different radio files. I was wondering is there anyway to flash the I9000 radio file because when i flash the rom unto my captivate i swear my signal is better, not only that internet seems faster and my bars don't go up down all crazy. For me stock radio and firmware my signal jumps up and down crazy in my apartment but when i flash to I9000 radio it's perfect.
The problem is that the i9000 radio disables the 850Mhz 3g support of the captivate. Otherwise it would have been perfect.

Comprehensive Modem Listing and Download Links?

Is there such a site out there, so people can swap modem files and the like to suit their needs?
Should we compile them here?
I am using a captivate on simple mobile and it only gets edge network so I believe that if there was more lists of modems and their frequency availability that there might be a chance of me and others to get 3g speeds. so I say yes to a list here.
Curious what your objective is? I have many modem files I can pass along but just providing them without context is inviting people to mess up their phone, thus having to flash back to stock.
Swyped.....you may have to interpret
okay well i am still trying to test different ways that may be possible for me to get 3g on my captivate with a t-mobile sister network called simplemobile sim card. i heard its impossible but thats what they say about everything til someone finally does it.
Tell me which you have tried and I will upload the others I have this evening.
Swyped.....you may have to interpret
well so far i have only tried different kernels. i dont know if they include any modem settings in them but havent found one yet. i do believe that each modem has to match the kernel...??? am i right? well i am on the i9000 kernel now and no luck but i am downloading damn near everything i can get my hands on for a midnight experimentation event.
No the kernel does not change the modem unless someone has packaged them together. And you have some leeway in mixing modems, kernels, and roms. If you are on an I9000 now, using a captivate modem will likely cause reboot issues. Using an eclair modem with froyo usually results in battery drain problems but not always.
Swyped.....you may have to interpret
Btw, what band are you usually connecting to, 1900 or 850 gsm or wcdma? Use dialer and enter*#0011# to get that info

Pretty sure that ain't a modem problem... If its an at&t phone, check your apn settings AND enable data roaming... You'll get 3g
Check what the above post recommends but if your getting data then your apn should be good and not sure what to tell you but here are a bunch of modems to play with
Modems
More Modems
I'm sure there is some sort of map on the 'net somewhere where you can see what coverage you get, then choose a modem compatible with your current build to get that frequency.
The modems all support both bands but there are a couple tricks to getting 850 on i9000 modems
Sent telepathically using vulcan mind meld app.
How do you flash modems?
Noob question, how do you flash just the modem. I want to try the jpp modem and I have the .bin file. What to do next? Thanks.
You have to flash using odin put the modem bin in the phone slot

[Q] serendipity 7/modems

alright I am completely overwhelmed after reading the modem thread. I am running Serendipity 7 on my captivate. Kernel version 4.1 and running the stock modem that this rom comes with (JV6 i believe). I am on WCDMA 1900 Band 2. I can flash roms and what have you, but when it comes to all this modem talk I am a noob.
My question to you guys is, how do i know if i should update my modem. I seem to be getting signal strengths between -80 and -90. I did a speed test and results are 2.55mbps up/1.65mbps down. Numbers seems good. GPS has never worked for me no matter what rom i am running. Since location seems to be a big thing in modem selection, I am located on the east coast in PA.
I love this rom and want to maximize my phones capabilities, only reason i am looking into this modem thing.

Skyrocket on T-mobile T-zone grandfathered data plan

I just got Skyrocket. I have never spent so much on a cellphone before.
Now I have 5.99 unlimited data plan from T-mobile. It is well known as T-zone or Web2Go. I was so eager to try this phone on T-mobile and see if it worked.
After unlocking the Skyrocket, I first rooted then tried flashing different modems from Rogers, Telus, T-mobile KID, VK1 and ect but none of them worked. I was only able to pick up voice signal on stock Radio.
Then I tried flashing the phone with Juggernaut and tried flashing modems. Now I started getting HSPA+ signals. For me KID and Telus modem worked the best. Average download speed was around 5-6mb/s. As the Juggernaut ROM was originally intended for 989, it seemed little unstable for me.
Then I tried Sky ICS stock and Telus combo. Wow, Now I was getting download speed of 10mb/s on T-zone. This combo was nicer because phone did not try to search for UMTS signal so frequently as much as it did with Juggernaut. However now my voice signal dropped down to 1 bar and call quality was horrible(at least it was audible).
Has anyone found any other good ROM/kernel/modem combo for Skyrocket that works best on T-mobile?
Flash tpc v3, and then flash faux sky-kernel 009m. Flash telus radio and make sure j have the right apn (access point names) for T-Mobile. This should clear u right up

Can you tell me what is your upload speed?! I have SkyRocket working with T-Mobile, using T-Mobile rom with flashed modem....the only problem is upload speed,it's around 100kbs while my download is around 7MBit...

I usually get 1mb/s - 1.5mb/s of upload speeds according to speed test.
When reception was good, then I got over 2.2mb/s of upload speed.

Thanks I will try as you have suggested later today.
I was surprised that battery drain is so significant when idle. My old HD2 uses only 2mA when idle, but my skyrocket uses over 100mA even when gps, data, bluetooth turned off. hope new combo fixes this battery drainage problem as well.

I ve only flashed through CWM. Is IMG flashing same method as Odin? I was trying to find a guide on IMG flash but I could not find any.
Here's locations of everything i told u about in versions that are flashable in cwm, i also added darkside, flash this first before u flash anything else. Flash in order and flash all at once before rebooting. After look into how to use fauxclock, it will help give u better battery

sky ics speed and vk1 seemed to work best for me.
download was faster with telsus but upload was crippled. (less than 0.1) hmm
i feel like vk1 does drain the battery like crazy tough and constantly sends those "high are you there type signals"
hm

So what is your combo to get that kind of upload speed?! As I said, can't get over 100kbs of upload, while download works just fine...
depending on coverage, area and carrier that may be why he's doing better than u. Speed tests are all relative, and should only be taken based in averages. If he's living right beside an LTE tower and he's the only one who has an LTE phone for a quarter mile, his speeds will certainly be faster than someone who lives half a mile away from one and has another 200 people using the tower at the same time

upload spped has never been issue with me.
I think it was Juggernaut with Telus or KID Radio.
upload speed was also fine on sky ICS n TPC.

Coverage in NYC is great. Have HTC Sensation and SkyRocket, both with T-Mobile. At the same spot Sensation gets 7Mbit/1.7MBit, while SkyRocket is 7MBit/0.1MBit, so the problem could be in modem, kernel or ROM. Modem is the suspect #1. It seems U/L freq. is the one causing slow upload speeds.
have u tried telus modem?

Does anyone have area dependent data connectivity issues like those seen with the Galaxy Note? Thinking of trading my note for a skyrocket since I cannot get any data at all at certain locations.

i have been using the skyrocket on tmobile for 2 days now. i get 2-3 mbps down at work until 4pm or so and then it degrades to 200-500 kbps. i don't know if it is the phone or the tmobile network, but i did not have this issue before with my nexus one.
as i drive away from work, i suppose when i switch towers, i get back to 2-3 mbps down.
this is the behavior that i have noticed the past 2 days.
---------- Post added at 11:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:29 PM ----------
on another note, i wanted to ask if it is safer and more compatible to be running skyrocket roms and kernels or tmobile galaxy sii roms and kernels?
of course the common theme would be tmobile / telus radio. i'm currently running TPC rom with faux's kernel and tmobile vk1 radio and i am having issues with 8tracks app. it keeps pausing and won't play again until i skip track. i have so far determined it is not the radio, since this happens on both tmobile and telus radio.

[Q] Thunderbolt Radio

I just flashed the radio and have 2.11.605.5 on my Thunderbolt. I flashed the CDMA and LTE files as well (found it here and was told it was the same as the 2.11.605.3 files). Everything works great on this phone now (using Thunderstick ROM) but I'm having difficulty with the 3G and LTE modes. 3G doesn't seem to work at all and LTE is very slow (about 2Mbps max).
Prior to flashing the radio (to MR4) and using this custom ROM, I was using MR2 and my speeds were hitting 40Mbps+.
I thought I almost bricked my phone this past weekend but thankfully found that downgrade to 2.11.605.5. Is there a list of radio files (CDMA/LTE) that are safe to flash for 2.11.605.5? I know different radios have different results so I want to give them a try. I'm on the East Coast and in New York I got 2Mbps, but I work in New Jersey during the weekdays and I get no signal at all here for data (still have voice).
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks.
What are you using to test internet speeds?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA
I usually use SpeedTest for all my speed tests. I read somewhere that it's not that accurate for 4G testing, but I've used it many times in my area and when it says the speed is fast, it is (downloads and everything). I was downloading some apps from the market yesterday and it was much slower than usual.
I'm sure it's the radio issue also because now I don't get any signal here in New Jersey when I usually just get a weaker 4G signal.
I flashed the following CDMA/LTE files in bold:
From the 2.11.605.3 RUU:
CDMA: 1.48.00.0906
md5: c6a5a9eee78e0f33267fa80ced3c49b8
LTE: 0.01.78.0906
md5: 6f33809cf2253c38a3c6bb970f030eee
From the 2.11.605.5 RUU:
CDMA: has the same CDMA radio as the 2.11.605.3 RUU
LTE: has the same LTE radio as the 2.11.605.3 RUU

Why don't I have any 3G signal at all even after I flashed that also? Is it safe for me to use the other radio files or it will risk bricking my phone? Or does that only apply for RUU flashes (those are the huge 400MB files)?
Thanks.

Not sure what you mean. To run a speedtest?
I want to flash to another radio to see if it gives me faster speeds. I know to be more careful with the RUU firmware (huge) files. Is it safe to assume that flashing the radio (the small file for CDMA/LTE) won't brick my phone? Are there any recommended for 2.11.605.5 RUU?
Thanks.
UPDATE: Had some time and read up on the posts in the forum. Ran the Comcast Xfinity speedtest from the phone's browser and it's definitely not the speed expected (around 6Mbps...compared to 40Mbps+). Installed the latest MR4 radio files again and also used leanKernel 6.1. Ran speedtest from Comcast again and getting mixed results (20Mbps+ and 30Mbps+). Have to settle with that now
4g issues
I am currently using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003891 and I flashed the radios both lte and CDMA and i have no 4g connectivity. I have been working on this but im a noob and kinda lost. I would greatly appreciate if someone could help this ignorant marine out...my device is the thunderbolt software number 2.11.605.5 baseband version 1.48.00.0906w_1, 0.01.78.0906w_2 kernel version 2.6.35.10-ck3+...hope that helps you help me
make sure you dont have the MR4 stock kernel on your thunderstick rom
cause he did package that for awhile and the mr4 kernel from what ive been told throttles speeds down to 2 or 3 mbps but if you get imos 6.2 kernel it will shoot back up to what it was before
Just ran a speed test on speakeasy while on stock MR4 kernel, got 8.4mbs. If it does throttle, it is not that low.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
But when you use imos kernel it goes up even higher just check it out
Sent from my HTC Mecha using XDA
Thanks, I will give it a try.
Edit: faster speeds confirmed on imo's kernel: up to 10mbs from about 5 on stock.
