[Q] backups - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got my transformer today, its awesome. I've found one slight annoyance, being that the internal storage is infact an SD card. I use titanium backup to backup my apps but I cant seem to direct titanium to backup to the external SD. If were to install Custom roms would my apps still be intact?

honeycomb recognizes internal storage as SD and your microsd as MicroSD. if you install a custom rom you can restore from titanium still. however, i flashed prime 1.3 over stock without wiping so i lost no data anyways. basically i am just using the internal storage for /system and apps+app storage, and my 32gb sd for all media.

Go to – preferences/backup folder location and then use the backup/return arrow to navigate back to root folder (/). You should see Removable and inside that will be MicroSD if you have one inserted. Create a new folder if you like
You will now backup to the external SD.
Hope this helps.

That's great thanks, what a stupid way, I would expect the back arrow to close the window entirely. Now I just need to figure out how to get double twist to sync to the external sd.

moving from Nexus One

hi, i've just bought G2X, formerly i had Nexus One.
my question is concerning of restoring apps. i would like them to be installed in internal memory. i backuped apps used at N1 with Titanium Backup. so should i repartition SD card to be whole at fat32 (no ext4 partition)? and restoring in Titanium Backup will restore them to internal memory?
so steps should be like this:
1. formatting card - whole at fat32
2. copying Titanium Backup folder to sd card
3. restoring apps
?
hmm, it seems, that apps are already installed to internal SD and i need to move folder with my backups of Titanium Backup to internal SD and change backup directory in program.
so will try this in the evening. anyway: there is no need for having ext3/4 partition in SD card (external) for apps, like for N1 and whole card may be formatted in fat32, right?
I wouldn't worry about EXT3/EXT4... I've found no need for it. Apps install perfectly fine on the SD card without it.
That if what I did. The entire micro sd formatted as fat. Works fine.

Same here. The G2X has plenty of onboard memory for apps. No need to install them to sdcard.

so did I. my question is: which apps folders from external SD card i can move to internal SD card? do i need to open every app and look for "save" or "backup" folder in settings and then change it after moving or so? how about your apps?

Is the A2SD on the Nexus just a partition that is symlinked to /data? If so, you should just be able to restore all in Titanium rather easily. If it's the official Android A2SD, that might be more complicated.
Just a guess, but maybe just manually copy all your apk's from your backup folder into the /data/app folder, reboot, then restore all the app data from Titanium?

i used DT Apps2sd script, so restoring from TiBa wasn't a problem. i'm wondering about moving folders with some apps data, like preferences etc.

To b honest I never bothered with copying my app data from my nexus 1. Other than my photos, music, movies, and documents, I just started over from scratch with my G2X. I figured I wanted as clean a slate as possible and didn't wanna carry over anything that might conflict with my new phone. Maybe that wasn't a necessary step, but then again, I haven't had many issues with my phone so maybe it helped.

[Q] Using TitaniumBackup on ICS

So I'm planning on ditching honeycomb and switching to an Ics rom... I backed up all my apps using TitaniumBackup but the rom requires a full wipe and cache wipes, question is, would performing the required wipes before flashing the rom also wipe the backups TitaniumBackup made on the internal storage?
No. All that is stored on a different partition...so you're safe. Just don't use the SuperWipeFULL version zip. THAT...will wipe all downloaded stuff on the internal SD storage.
Infact...to make it easy for you...just download and use the SuperWipe Lite script from the Revolution HD thread. That's what I do...when I need to wipe.
Also you could move the backup folder location to the micro sd card.
Just go into "preferences" and change it to micro sd card

Don't forget to change it back after you wipe and reinstall titanium, or it will just look like you lost all your backups since it defaults to internal storage.
After reinstalling TB, you can have it do a quick scan to pick up any folder that tb uses.
Also remember that TB stores its own settings on removable card if available on /Removable/MicroSD/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/

[Q] Error in recoving backup

For some reason, when trying to restore a backup (either from inside the rom manager app, or going to it in recovery), it keeps saying there is an error. Since i do a lot of backups to be safe, i move them from the internal sd card to my external to save space. When i want to restore, i move them back to the internal sd card. is this what is causing my problem? can i not copy them back to the internal sd card?

Are you moving the blob file also.
No, just the backup file. I see the blobs on my internal SD and external SD with different dates. Is it OK to copy over the ones from my SD to my internal? Won't that try and overwrite either the blob folder or files themselves? Is this OK to do?
Need to move blob files - that's where actual data resides.
For future,I would recommend "backup to external sd) from cwm. Saves you from having to do this.
You can also restore from external sd as well

ding ding ding we have a winner!
I moved blob files to no avail. Well, looks like i'll just delete those backups. Luckily i dont really lose anything so its ok. Hey, definitely a good learning experience! .
Thank you guys for all the help, i'll definitely be backing up straight to my external from now on.

[Q] how to manage internal space, phone space and sd card

I have a 1GB RAM + 4GB ROM phone, and I added a 16GB sd card. I heard the backup/recovery cannot include the sd card. So that means all programs should be installed in the internal space and phone space, which is where that 4GB ROM is. 4GB seems not enough then.
I know may people move apps from internal space and phone space to sd card. If we cannot backup/recovery the sd card, how can we restore to the original state when something bad happened?
How do you manage your space of your phone?
I think some ' file manager ' from Google play store will help you
To be honest I store all my backups on my SD card using astro file manager then move them I us titanium backup to then create a update zip file just in case ever other week, then on top of that I sending all backups and update zip file to dropbox so I have easy access anywhere I go.. reason for the backups on dropbox is I always have a friend looking for an old copy a program

redirecting CWM backup folder

Like the title says, how do you relocate the backup folder of CWM? My internal sd card is getting full and I want all my back ups to go to my external sd card. I know there is an option on recovery to back up to external, but i want the regular backup to be saved automatically to the external sd card. help would be much appreciated
If you are trying to do that from within the app it will place backup on internal card. No option/setting for external card except in recovery.
