[Q] Make my UK wifi Xoom into a US wifi Xoom? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What steps do I need to take to make my UK wifi Xoom into a US wifi Xoom? I want to do this to put me into the US update queue rather than the worldwide queue, which seems to be far slower. And if I do this, what problems will I have? Is there any risk?

adding 3G, is it possible?

Hey guys,
Just got my TF, and am loving it. I wonder how much the wifi, and 3g version, are similar. What I mean for example is this. The Ipod, and the Iphone, are pretty much the same thing.
I am guessing that the wifi version, and 3g version, are almost identical, except of course, one is 3g, the other is not.
My question is this:
Could one install 3g into a wifi tablet, as to have both?
If they are truly set up the same way, internal wise, would it be possible to install a 3g card, and drop it into the tablet.(where it would go originally if one bought the wifi version.

*!!with credit & much love to all respective XDA-devs!!*
..it certainly is possible to enable 3G:
- with a rooted TF101 (eg. NVFlash the mighty Prime! rom - for example)
- and then use the 3G toggler app
I haven't run through this myself, but I remember there being a guide thread detailing which 3G USB adapters fellow XDA-ers have proven working.
..i challenge you to get familiar with the search to find that!

[Q] Why no 5ghz WIFI??

Apparently the Xoom is capable of 5Ghz wifi. The Xoom and the Transformer both use identical chips (BCM4329) for both wifi and bluetooth.. so it begs the question: Why can't the transformer utilize the 5ghz wifi band like the xoom can?
**EDIT**
Apparently the chip also supports receiving FM radio too.
BCM4329 info
Possibly the software does not support it? You say the xoom is capable along with the Xformer, but you dont mention if the xoom actually uses it.

The xoom is advertised as supporting 5ghz band wireless-N, and as I the link shows the chip clearly supports it.
Well I attempted to use the bcm4329.ko from the latest xoom update... resulted in bootloop on the transformer. boo!
Well I guess luckily I left a copy of the original in the modules directory, adb to the rescue!
Anybody smart have a suggestion on whether its possible to get 5Ghz N working? Perhaps I need both the driver and the wpa_supplicant?

[Q] 4G Upgrade

I have an MZ601 3G Xoom that I purchased in Asia. I will be going to the US in a few weeks, and was wondering if someone could clear up a few things for me:
1. Is my Xoom eligible for the 4G upgrade?
2. If so, will I still be able to use my Xoom on 3G networks when I am in Asia and Europe?
3. How would I go about doing the upgrade in that it seems to be through Verizon and this Xoom has never been affiliated with Verizon?
4. Since I am running the EOS ICS version 1.0 ( fantastic ROM, by the way), I assume that I would need to change ROM versions after the upgrade?
I appreciate it if anyone could help clear up these questions so that I don't end up doing something that I will regret later on.
Thanks in advance!

Xoom 3g vs Wifi which more worth?

Yes I have noticed the similar threads and I came across them but I want to get the specific answers from XOOM experts;
-I want to purchase a tablet for my GF and a lil usage from my end as well(gaming?).
-Right now in the UAE I can have the 3G version for $249 (with the protective folio for free) and the Wifi only @ $221 (Uk version cause it says it has the UK plug? standards here are all UK based I believe)
-I know the basics now(you can tell from my sig) about android, de-brand, use different firmwares for different region models of the same device (eg.Galaxy Nexus takju vs yakju).
1. Which is really better to get, the 3G variant(yes can tether thru any android phone but is only having 4.0.4) or wifi(which I have read has the the Jelly Bean 4.1.1?
1.5 How is that team EOS or CM10 as a daily driver for the xoom? can it be used for both wifi and 3g version?
2. How does this stand to the nexus 7 as of now? I know the device is 1 1/2yr old now Hint; my GF does not like squinting LOL, maybe she'll be using a tab for facebook epecially poker, e-mails, pictures, and videos (1080p is supported?)
Hope the experts could chime in to this dilemma I am having..
PS..not considering iPAD, no way!
BUMP
for an answer from the experts
Get the 3g, you can load any rom on the xoom be it wifi or 3g rom, all 3g xoom is quad band 850/900/1800/1900,My understanding is all internal parts are the same, only radio software, be it umts, cdma, gsm.. my xoom is a cdma 3g, when motorola have any new ota updates for wifi only i load my 604 wifi backup and test, when verizon decide to send their ota i load my 602 backup..

[Q] firmware update over 4g network?

I just want to get the uodate over the 4g because I have no WiFi here. Is there anyway I can do this?
Got to att website and go to a att hotspot you can get free WiFi there the website will have a list of places or just go to any at$t store and use Wi-Fi at this time you can only download ota via Wi-Fi
Actually, I'd like to know how to change this. My wife and I both got the LG G3 but on different carriers (we are in a remote area having different carriers is worthwhile). I'm not sure what we did with the setup, but mine will let my update via carrier or wifi, however hers will only let it update via wifi only, which is a pain because she has unlimited data, I do not.
I keep going over everything I can think of to set her's to operate the same as mine in this regard but I cannot find it.
