I know there is that thread for the Xbox controller, but how about ps3, can that connect wirelessly? Or even with the cord? Is the only thing I need to get this working is a USB OTG deal?
Also what games are you guys using with these controllers, I know a lot of people are using emulators, but what apps are you using to get them and the ROMs? Also besides emulators, what other games are working well with controllers?

Yea man this is pretty sweet. You just have to map the keys correctly and it works flawlessly. I like the feeling of the ps3 controller more than my xbox 360 controller.

Do you map it through android settings or what? I had a wiimote hooked up when i got the Xoom, but pretty much just to test it. I wasn't ver thrilled. But for that there was an app since it was wireless.

I was curious about this too. The 3.1 update comes with the additional keylayout files for the controllers and their mappings (there's even one for a logitech racing wheel) so would you really NEED to remap them?

He must be talking about remapping in the emulators themselves. The 3.1 update, even if it does have full profiles for the various compatible controllers, will only map keys in the OS itself. Programs that support the profiles will work automatically, or that happen to use the same keys i.e. just because the triangle button on the dualshock is mapped to "g" doesn't mean that SNESoid automatically maps the y button to g. This is what I would expect the case to be, anyway

Did you make sure to power on the controller with the PS3 button in the middle?
I had to try a few time to get it to work because it kept turning on the PS3.
Sure did. Works great but I think we can buy any El cheapo controller now. I wonder how the analog sticks work n64 emu or ps2 emu.

my generic PS3 style controller does not work on the transformer, I get a green power light, but it doesn't work in any app or game.
official PS3 controllers are still £36 for a second hand one in Game or Gamestation, so I havent got one yet to try.
Anyone know of any good Bluetooth gamepad controllers that work well with this phone and with FPS or sim games?

WiiMote works too
How about xbox 360?

The Wiimote and XBox 360 are both bluetooth? Are there apps for emulators that need to be installed for them to work?
There is an app called Wiimote Controller (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ccpcreations.android.WiiUseAndroid&hl=en) that can be used to establish a connection to the Wiimote over bluetooth and add an Input Method that puts out the Wiimote button presses which can then be assinged in certain emulators... However this method might be problematic with games in general that don't have customisable controls...
Thanks for that tip!

Noted. I've never used an xBox controller, but I am familiar with the PS3 game pads -plus, I think the layout and feel is way better... but that's just my opinion!

Do I need a Bluetooth dongle for Wiimote, or how is the setup?
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium
Wiimotes use Bluetooth for the buttons and pad. The the "attitude" of the controller is reported that way too. The actual positioning is via infrared...though interestingly enough, the sensor is in the remote, and the LEDs are in the "sensor bar" and that is reported back by Bluetooth as well.
Oh, right. Do you need a dongle. Nope, shouldn't. Haven't tried it myself though.

Edit: Whoops, meant to make it clear that this is an "as far as I can remember" thing...its been a while since I looked at it!

Yes, that's exactly how it works and you do NOT need any additional hardware. The app I linked to earlier has some simple and straightforward instructions that you can't miss, simply put the wiimote into "connect-mode" by pressing 1&2 simultaneously and then let the app search for it.

I got my OTG USB cable and mice etc. seem to work fine. Tried the wired xbox controller and while it is detected via the BT joystick test app, it wont work in any apps.
Tried another generic USB gamepad today and nothing, not even recognised in the test app.
So has anyone managed to get a gamepad working natively? The main reason I ask if that my mum likes to play the odd old arcade game (cool huh) and she would need gamepad support and wont bother if she has to pay out and configure another it all via another app!
thanks
guess not

yeah if I could get one cheap then it would be great, my mum wont be up for spending a fortune
I have the same problem here. In my case I have generic USB controller and totally the tab and BT joystick test app cannot detect it. Did you manage to make it work?
For those who were able to get the game controller to work on tablet, which ROMS have the sixaxis program installed?

u can usea wiimote and a classic controller they are cheap
Using rohan.kernel b6 with OTG, and nothing really happens when I plug the 360 controller in. The xbox button ring blinks as expected, but my phone doesn't seem to detect it. No game detects it, and I cannot move around the UI with it.
Edit: OTG is definitely working, keyboards and USB sticks work perfectly fine with the phone.
bump.
Did you find an answer? Is this kernel specific not rom specific, I heard once that it was dependant on both but gave up. I would like to get it now vice city is availiable.

I had the same quesrion which I posted in the apps section about a week ago. Someone pointed me to Droid.emu on Play Store. However, I am using a factory PS3 controller. I'm running Viper 2.4.1 w/ElementalX kernel. After you map the buttons it works flawless. This is on emulators of course.
Hope this helps you.

Thanks for your advice. I think the ps3 is Bluetooth which is a little different. The 360 controller USB and some games such as the GTA ones support it natively. However I can not get any response from it in jellybam with siyah kernel.

Hello all,
I have had my tablet now for a week and love it, but I need a controller and the shield controller is still to far out. So what controller are you using and which controller should I look at. Also would a blue tooth keyboard mouse work with game like half 2?
I have been looking into the Moga Pro, think I'm gonna go get one after work today and give it a try.
I've been using the Amazon Fire TV controller and it works great. Tried it on a lark and it worked without a hitch. All buttons and toggles work great including the dpad. Haven't tried the audio buttons or the button to access the web but all the relevant game buttons and triggers work flawlessly. Easy setup too. Turn on Bluetooth, sync controller. Done.
Alright thanks for the help I'll look at both those controllers and Dcaplinger if you end up getting the moga pro let me know how it works out.
Before I had the Shield controller I used the iControlpad and the Steelseries FREE controller. Both have nice dpads and the button presses feel like 1st party pretty much. Unfortunately they do not have L2/R2 buttons so when I needed them I used a PS3 controller.
I'm currently using the Moga Pro controller and it's working well for me. I haven't ran into any problems yet. The cheapest one I heard that works so far is the Gamestop one for like $15.
I haven't tried console mode yet since I haven't bought the HDMI cable, but if you're planning to using console mode then the NVIDIA control might be the way to go as it has the touch keys. I read other users say it's quite a pain with regular bluetooth controls. (Only from what I read, so take that into account).
Im yet to find anything that works better then a ps3 controller.

How did you get it to work with Trine 2 or Unearthed Trails of ibn Battuta? BTW I'm connecting via USB as I found if connected to BT I can't play any nvidia grid games which is another issue.

I'd say just definitely go with the Shield controller, I have the Moga Pro which I had bought for my Tegra Note which has now been replaced by the Shield Tablet, I really didn't like the Moga Pro at all, pain to setup, didn't like how it felt, it felt cheap, and it just sits there collecting dust now. I got my Shield controller last Monday though and totally love it, I love it so much in fact that I really hope someone comes up with a way to use it as a PC controller since it really is such a great controller and definitely worth the premium price over the Moga Pro.
