I'm a developer, and I'm constantly looking at logcat to catch debug statements from my G2X.
Unfortunately, my helpful messages are constantly bumped off by all the GsmDataConnection garbage that comes standard on the phone. Is there any way to turn these off? With or without a mod/hack, I don't care.
Like title says. Today my GPS began randomly starting every few minutes. I have not installed any new apps or made any other changes, so I can't figure out what is causing this.
Any suggestions?

What rom, any kernel changed, dropped the phone?
Sorry, its totally stock other than a handle full of apps. No drops, and has been in an Otterbox Defender from day 1.

Depending on what you are doing on the phone, and your location settings, it is normal for gps to start automatically. Ie doing a Google search when you have GPS enabled and have allowed Google to access your location as they say "to provide better search results"
Or it could be your wife logging into your htcsense account and using the locate phone feature to find you
LOL. Sitting here with the wife and watching GPS activating. Also, have location access disabled on Google.
This is really strange. I've had the phone a while now, and this is new behavior. It happens even after I have force closed all the apps that might happen to use GPS.

For anyone interested by monitoring the GPS events while watching running apps, I was able to find the culprit. It was the AT&T Mark The Spot App causing GPS to keep activating. Even after doing an FC of the app, within minutes it would start itself again and then GPS would start firing up again. Uninstalled the AT&T app: problem solved. I had the app for a good while, and this was a fairly recent bug.

Hi all, I have a recurring issue with sending MMS images with the stock messaging app on my G2x running CM7 stable. Sometimes, but not every time, when I hit send, the gray notifier box shows up, saying "Currently unable to send your message. It will be sent when the service becomes available." This has happened even when I have service. Regardless, the box persists. Even when I can clearly see that I have bars, the box simply won't go away. The message refuses to send, and usually I can't even delete it. No matter what I do, the box stays, so I have to reboot every time I have this problem. Any ideas? I've done a good bit of searching and haven't yet found anyone with the same problem. Help would be greatly appreciated!

I occasionally have the same problem and the only thing I've found that helps are multiple hard reboots. Eventually the mms image will send and all will be well untill the next time it happens again...then more hard reboots.
I have a similar issue on CM7, try turning airplane mode on then off and then sending. Also, I use Handcent, not stock mms.apk.

I recommend backing up your apps with titaniumbackup and do a full wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe and flash the newest nightly version of cm7

Sometimes for similar issues, deleting telephony.db in something like data/providers/??telephony had helped me in the past. (And reboot)

I find that this problem persists even when I'm not using the stock mms.apk...for example, I've also used go sms pro and still have the same result which requires a reboot
Hmm, if you have tried airplane mode, I don't know what to say. For me, it seems to be connected with hitting areas of no reception. I may have a perfect connection, but something thinks I don't. What I mean is, for example I will launch Browser, say from Xda, and browser will give me a message telling me I have no connection (when I do) but still function. I think what ever causes browser to 'think' I have no connection is related to the mms issue. It's also apparent in an app called Clock Sync (which I use to keep my phone on a stable time, versus assuming the network will provide accurate time) and this app won't pull up the info from the time server and allow me to synch.

I don't know who your carrier is, but if your apn is split into two parts, one for accessing the internet and one for sending mms, then try this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484489, I posted it a while back and mms works perfectly for me, of course the only downside is that you have to manually switch apns depending on what you want to use your data for.
Good luck
I get that error message here and there... I learned to live with it... What you should do is after sending mms and that message appears; long hold that picture you're trying to send and select edit; this will bring that picture back to your text box... From there, like everyone said, airplane mode off then on... Then try sending it again... If that fails... Go to setting, applications, development and select long hold back button to kill app... So when that message appears and you want to get rid of it... Long hold back and it will kill that mms process...

I just wanted to say thank you all for your input. You've been very helpful gents.
i'm not having too many battery issues. I want to prolong the battery life, but all I find remain the same, you know…so, I’d rather to have a external battery, anyway.
This is my first android phone so i do not want to mess with it when its so new.
i can not seem to get rid of google talk running in the background unless i quit the process in running services. I have auto sign in unchecked and everything in the settings unchecked. I also end the program, but the service remains running in the background. anyway to really stop this service with out task killers? even after reboot the talk is still running.
Below are things that are running on my phone that I want to stop at first.
calender - obexservice and connectivity. these seem to restart on their own if i stop the service.
google - gtalk service - why, i don't use this at all
voicemail - cm_service - what is this for? do i need a service running for voicemail? i just have the basic voicemail setup, does this phone run a visual voicemail program that i missed.
HTC DM - HtcDmService - no idea what this is or what its for.
Sprint Zone - updateservice - what is this for, do i need it? can i get rid of it?
HTC IQ Agent - agent service - no clue what this is. can i get rid of it?
DMserviceapp - again no clue what this is. do i need it, can i get rid of it?
Touch Input- ok i think i get this one, but does the phone really need to run a service to save my touch settings?
And I find a way out at last. The only thing i need to stop is gtalk and sprint zone. the rest are things that make the device function. HTC iq agent is part of HTC Sense, as well as HTC DM. voicemail should be rather obvious...and calendar, anyway, I just let it run.
disable 4G, wifi and all that crap, and cut syncing off, i notice a huge difference in battery performance. with these settings, i could go 37.5hrs theoretically before needing to charge. i only need it to last for 17hrs personally. if i go out after work, then 19-20hrs tops, though still want a replacement battery...:silly:

I am pretty sure this isn't the desire s, the saga doesn't have 4G bands. also stop using task killers, they are useless on Android. the Linux kernel is designed to fill up the ram. you may wanna either delete those apps using root permissions or greenify those apps.

My wife and I use Life360 to keep track of each other and our kids. Unfortunately my son likes to turn off location on his phone. Is there a way to keep him from doing this?
I think no, tell him dont turn off the gps.
Anyway wait for more reply..

For security reasons, Android doesn't natively support device policies like the one you want, so you'll need a Mobile Device Manager service. I think this company offers it for free if you don't have a lot of devices https://www.manageengine.com/mobile/mobile-device-management/
Full disclosure - using an MDM would be overkill, but I'm pretty sure there's no other way to force it to remain on.
Anti-theft apps could be used to turn it on when you notice it's off. There was one such app where you could send SMS to the phone to make the phone do various commands, such as turn on location, but I don't remember its name.
