After setting up SDK Manager and installing motorola 4.9.0 drivers, in device manager, I see that Mot composite adb interface has a warning. I checked the properties and it says it failed to initialize (code 37). Anyone ever come across this? I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times to no avail. Just hoping to root and need a little hand.
Dude, all the Cliq xt info on rooting can be found over at modmymobile.com forums, plus a good custom recovery, and quite a few Roms.... more rom's on simplyandroid forums also....
I practically lived there til I got rid of my Cliq xt

Sounds like a driver issue. if you install the wrong driver for something thats the same error code you will get. not sure if thats the case but i thought id throw in my 2 cents haha
Thanks to both of you, I apologize for lack of forum etiquette. I'm sure i've got the right drivers though

Iir I had to install the Motorola flashing program, the name of which eludes me at the moment .... to get the phones drivers set IP properly for it to be visible from adb ... if your on windows 7 one or the other of those apps have issues working right without launching it as administrator by holding shift, and right clicking and saying run as administrator then.answering yes to the dialog that pops up

No problemo..... that was a great little phone....I was so disappointed when moto decided not to officially support it after 1.5 after saying the would get it to 2.1 for months...
I left T-Mobile over it, burned almost 400 bucks buying it o. Release day, and got no satisfaction on seeking an upgrade or replacement for less than the same.... sad little company...was with them almost 7 full years and they could do nothing useful for a "valued" customer....
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Thats vile dude. Im On rogers and I guess if im thoroughly unhappy with the phone and say its problematic there is a refurb program for 50 bucks. Sounds Decent and I may go down that venue. Ive been wanting to root for awhile because as a canadian rogers said no to the 2.1. Ive accepted it and am going about the "other options". Mostly for multitouch. I know its a little faux pas to compare roms, but do you have any good suggestions for a rom. Im thinking either barely blurred or adlxmod 2.1.54 consolidation as they appear to be the two that everything works for the most part.
Sent from my MB501 using XDA App
Most all of those roms work well...the only hiccup is the speaker toggle issue.....different ones are worse about it than others...
Basically when you get a call...you might have to switch the speakerphone off and on for the other party to hear you....iir same holds true if you make a call....
FWIW, before I passed it to my brother, I was using the latest official Motorola motoblur release, still based on 1.5, but I had manually gone thru and stripped out a lot of the bloat....mostly stuff I'd never use, including the Amazon mp3 store that ALWAYS runs in the background eating mass resources. I'm actually kinda fond of the happenings widget, and how motoblur integrates all the contacts so well across social networks....the downside is if u move off of a motoblur device, you loose all your motoblur contacts...so if you haven't been keeping your Gmail contacts updated, well.you'll spend a few hours like I did keying them over manually.
Happenings is cool, cause it shows every status posted by every friend on Facebook, so you don't miss anything, and always know where you left off last time you were there.
I enjoyed being that connected, YMMV...
I think overall, the fastest fully functional rom I ran was the vanilla one based on 1.5.... basically makes the device function exactly like a stock mt3g or g1....just with more ram and app storage.

Rooted and Flashed a 2.1 rom with motoblur features still in it. ADLXmod 2.1.54-2 Consolidation was the name I think. It's sweet. Thanks again for the back and forth and help. I agree the XT is a deadly little beast, underrated and now unleashed.
Yeah, very solidly built, 256mb ram....why it never took off is beyond me.
Gratz on the new Tom. That sounds awesome.
How're the issues with making voice calls. Does it work right now?
Might need to try that rom on the one I gave my brother.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA Premium App
voice calls are no problem, there was a speakerfix by a dude named @firesnatch included in the rom itself. you can hear it automatically turn the speaker on then back off. I often use the 3.5mm jack into my car stereo so voice calls on that have been 100% normal/flawless. I highly suggest it as it's got some sweet stuff built in like wi-fi tether, titanium backup, and clockwork's Rom Manager. Loving the launcherPro as well, because adlxmod also uses the motoblur HOME ui (dialer on left/apps in middle/contacts on right) but with the launcherpro UI I've got 5 shortcuts instead of those three, and at that - those shortcuts are customizable.
Sweet! Ill have to set that up for my bro. How well does Tom Manager play with jr0dd's recovery

You might have heard that Google was rolling out a new Android Market, complete with book and movie rentals. You also might have heard it would coming in the next few weeks. Well thanks to an anonymous source (possibly with a time machine) you can grab it today.
Hit the download link, and install it from your SD card like any other app. Fair warning -- we don't know if there will be any complications from doing this, but we haven't seen any so far. Use your best judgement. Discuss it in the forums!

Why bother with any software or plugging your phone in to install an APK? It all seems a bit unnecessary. I just chrome-to-phoned the dropbox URL and bam app installed.

If your running tpgb ninja your rooted, so you don't need the sideload machine, just go to settings>applications>and check unknown sources. Then put this apk on your sd card and use file manager (an app installed in ninja) to select it and install.
Oh, and i am running ninja 7061. but i think i might just go back to stock CM

Scroll down to Market app and select it
Select “Uninstall Updates”
Now have your old Market back!

It's not a "method" really, it's just.. installing the app, the same way you would any APK. Doesn't matter how you get the url to the APK to your phone (email, chrome to phone, typing it in by hand).

Does any Google Nexus S phone running AOSP Android reboot on its own like some Motorola Android phones do, or shut off unexpectedly like some Motorola Bionic phones do?
I am trying to determine if it is an underlying problem with Android, or if it is something Motorola might have introduced, or if it might be a hardware problem.
The Google Nexus S looked like a good reference phone to compare with.

Not any phones without significant issues (running a stock AOSP rom)
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
No problems here. It probably has to do with the fact Motorola phones requires hacked together roms because you cannot flash custom kernels.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using xda premium
Motorola phones reboot on their own because they can't take custom kernels?? Is the stock kernel the culprit? Under Froyo, my DroidX would reboot when connected via USB. There is reason to believe that a running app that resided on the SD card was not yielding to the unmount request, and the phone had to force a reboot as a last ditch effort to get the app to release the SD card to be mounted by the PC.
I also found this thread about the Nexus S: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...y-phone-randomly-rebooting-every-5mins-d.html

This is a widespread issue among thunderbolt users, but I haven't seen a thread here yet.
I haven't accepted the OTA update from earlier this week, but last night my phone booted with what I assume was a update. Now, any URL can only be directed to the Web browser, not an individual app (for example, Google play links link to the play website, not the app. Same with youtube links). There's not too much out there about it, but from what I've seen, this is due to a new patent lawsuit from apple directed at HTC. Apparently HTC laid down and just removed the function. This is terrible and pretty much ruins the phones functionality.
As of right now the only work around I've heard of is custom roms. Personally I don't have that option as this is a corporate phone. Has anyone heard anything or does anyone have any ideas for a work around? I imagine what would work would be a fake "browser" that you would set as the default and just would reroute to apps, but I certainly don't have the developing know-how to make such a thing.

With the HTC One series, there's a new "App Associations" menu that allows you to assign what apps will be used for various link types... is there no equivalent in the new OTA update for the Thunderbolt?
After the update there is that setting in the applications menu under settings

This is frustrating.
I updated to the software update and regret it to the fullest extent. Now NO videos of Youtube open in the app. This is a headache.
There is a new "apps association" menu in settings now, under Applications menu. But there is NO option to set YOUTUBE as a default like it used to be with ease.
Anybody here have a way around this??
What I found is using Opera Mini helps this by making it one less step to open videos in the app. But still miss the old direct way.
Help people!!
This is due to the patent judgment against HTC by Apple. The same judgment that recently delayed the release of the One X and the EVO 4G LTE. This feature will be removed in all future HTC releases.

You can't. Apple patented the tech, all they will do is go after a new developer of such an app. Your best bet is to root, run titanium backup, and flash a custom rom that is based on an older Thunderbolt ROM if you want the feature back.

That's not exactly some HTC key/core feature. It's in every Android phone and part of the Android source itself. Even the Galaxy Nexus does it. It's not even a phone specific feature. PCs have done it for years using file://some-local-filesystem-point and using sockets to link apps to other apps. That's all Android does pretty much. Since everyone should be rooted on here (the thunderbolt is painful if you don't), it doesn't affect anyone.
Also I see no source links in your post. Means nothing if you can't link to something verifiable.

I've always used TigerGBA/SNES/NES for playing ROMs ever since my first android phone the D2G. So it's been a few years of using it without problems.
Well I just recently had to reset my phone (a crappy LG Revolution, upgrading when the Galaxy S4 comes out) and reinstall everything and now TigerGBA is not working. It finds my roms and everything but when I try to open one of the games it says it can't find the BIOS files and it says to either put the BIOS file into mnt/sdcard/roms/gba manually or to download the ROM Emulators app and it will do it for you.
Well that app doesn't seem to exist but I found an app that install BIOS for any emulator and so I had it install in the proper directory but it's still saying there is no BIOS file when I try to open a game. So I was hoping someone can help me figure out how to get this working cause out of all the Android emulators I've tried, the Tiger ones are the best IMO and plus they are free which makes em even better cause they run even better then the paid ones.
So if someone can help me figure this out it would be greatly greatly appreciated. I've never had an issue with it before. And for all my android development knowledge, I can't seem to figure this out.
