[Q] G2X Battery Life - T-Mobile LG G2x

Loving my G2X, batt life isnt as good as my N1. I did let it drain completley till phone shut off on its own , then factory reset the phone and let it charged completley. That helped out alot but still batt life aint N1'ish. Could it be because of dual core or and will gingerbread update help out batt life. (This is my 1st post)

cant expect the battery life to be identical to another phone. battery life may or may not get battery in future updates.

So far so good with my battery. definitely better battery life than my Nexus 1.

YAY! Another battery life thread!!! I've been missing them.
It's a great phone.. I hope you enjoy it.

I didn't factory reset, but I rooted, backed it up (key step!) , then got rid of a lot of the bloatware. Namely car home that always had a service and a lot of other unused default apps. Today my battery has been a champ. Normal use, occasional browsing, and 30 minutes of Listen predownloaded podcast on the way to work. I'm at 79% now after 5 hours off charge.
I did battery calibration too, but not sure ill see its affect until after I do a full discharge cycle.
If you're interested, just search g2x root then g2x bloatware.

You dont need to discharge your battery if you use the battery calibration app or delete battery stats in clockworkrecovery. Draining the battery unnecessarily like that is bad for the battery. That's why the two options I just named were made.

Battery Life varying between models

Hey guys, I'm new here. I've had my phone for nearly a month now and have constantly read the forums but never posted. I tried finding a thread like this, but I couldn't. Sorry if this is repeated.
This is the second captivate I've had. The first one completely bricked after doing an OTA update. Anyways, after getting a replacement model, I've noticed that the new phone has horrible battery life. Sent about 15 text messages and my battery died 10%. With my old one, I was so amazed at how well the battery lasted.
Is it a well known thing that battery life varies between captivates?
EDIT:
Here's some background on my two captivates (if for some reason it can aid in figuring out why my second captivate's battery life sucks):
With my first captivate, I did an OTA update for JH7 and had amazing battery life. This was when I had "new phone syndrome" and played with every app I could find throughout the day and was always amazed at how the battery wasn't dying quickly (so I'm sure it wasn't my imagination that the battery life was better). I spend nights where I purposely tried draining my battery after coming home from work so I could do a full charge.
Then I installed Cognition, but liked the stock version so I switched back using Odin. After restoring it to JF6, I did another OTA update for JH7. The update froze and then bricked the phone.
Once I had my phone replaced, I used Kies to update to JH7 instead. And for some reason, this phone's battery life is substantially different than my original one
I just notice that Launcher Pro drain the battery faster than TouchWiz.

Check your cell standby. I find that sometimes my standby time shows twice as long as my phone has actually been unplugged. During these times, my battery life is much worse. Not really sure what causes it as it does not always happen... I have not noticed a relationship to Launcher Pro. When the standby weirdness is not an issue I get great battery life with Launcher Pro. I have not used touchwiz in a long time, but I find it hard to imagine that I would be getting better than 18 or so hours with it.

Standby shows the same time as the time that its been unplugged. I started off this morning with 98%. Sending 20 texts plus 2 levels of angry birds dropped it to 81%.
My original captivate had ridiculously good battery life compared to this one. I used it consistently and by the end of the day, still had at least 50%. I doubt its the battery because when they replaced my phone, they put the same battery I had into the new one.
Have you guys experienced any differences between the battery life of two different captivates?

Thanks, I've read that before when I was lurking the forums. I instantly thought it was my imagination but that's not the case.
Also tried the battery draining. Used it until the phone shut off. Charged it to 100%, shut it off, charged it at 100% again. Turned it on, shut it off and charged it...no change.
Att is sending a new battery so I'll see if its the battery that's causing this poor battery life.
So far though, I really doubt its the battery and something in the system. I got so annoyed with the battery life that I did a factory reset in-case there was some app that was draining it, but that didn't help either.
Just a tip. I was using latitude and wasnt getting the normal battery life i usually was when i wasnt using it.
I didnt know it was effecting it though cause you dont see it in task manager but you will in applications/running services. Anyways i signed out of latitude and battery life is back to normal.
It wont be remarkably better but it was noticeable to me. Just a tip.

[Q] Battery Life TERRIBLE Once Rooted!

I'm having the strangest problem with my HTC Evo...
I used to get over 22hrs of moderate use (rooted) and ever since flashing any ROM running Sense 3.0 my battery life is affected to the point I'm lucky to get 6 hours of use. It discharges 15% within the first 10 minutes after unplugging the charger and continues to discharge at an increased rate throughout the day.
I unrooted the phone and took it to Sprint to "test" and after 3 hours they gave me back the same exact phone claiming they had "updated" it and everything, including the battery, had tested perfectly fine.
I feel like they are giving me the run around because obviously something is wrong here.
Any ideas as to what is going on here?
Rooting doesn't improve battery life, never did. Think of rooting as gaining admin privileges to a Windows PC, for example.
I think you have a background process running that is taking up a lot of battery, check the Battery Use page or reboot the phone.
I know, but it shouldn't diminish it either. It does gives you a chance to see a potential increase by undervolting, underclocking, ect.
Anways, no background apps running. All display scaled down, GPS off, ect, ect.
I have no clue as to why this sudden decrease in life. And Sprint says the battery is testing "excellent" as is the phone. Obviously something is not right here. Feels like they are being lazy and trying to avoid giving me a replacement.
Evo is known for bad battery usage. Best thing for you to do is get a backup battery.
Lol. I know that too, I'm not new to the Evo. I work with phones, Evo included, on a daily basis at my place of employment.
I'm saying this same battery used to last over 22 hours with moderate use when the phone was rooted and underclocked. Now the phone drains the battery amost instantly.
I refuse to purchase an additional battery to combat a problem Sprint should be fixing. I paid over $500 for this phone and haven't even had it a whole year yet. Something else is going on here...
Sounds like a rom issue, not a hardware one. Those sense 3.0 features and eye candy come at a cost.
Yeah. Sense 3.0 is a battery hog. Try cm7 or something AOSP

yeah, one turne off and reboot, Battery Life TERRIBLE too, i'm lost 10% when reboot

It's ture !
Have you tried an app that shows you battery usage over your running apps? May tell you which programs are stealing all the juice
!. Rooting does not have anything to do with battery life...well..not directly..it depends on your kernels, apps, phone settings, etc.
2. I agree, Sense 3.0 seems to drain your battery a bit more than previous Senses... well...you know what they say, beauty has its price..about the AOSPs, they have better battery live but they are not so pretty as the Senses...again...beauty has its price
If it helps the 'Live wallpapers' are known to eat battery, but what it could be is Wifi, if you leave it switched on all the time it may be connecting to open wifi networks without you realising and eating the battery.
Interestingly though, a whole day of use, some wifi a bit of camera and some calls on a wildfire with wifi on, didn't seem to drop the battery much and this is with a rooted phone.
you can try green power
Even though it may sound lame to some of you, the app Juice Defender has actually helped extending the life on battery quite nicely for me...
Another possible route might be to try different Radio/RIL combinations, some can also extend your battery life.
Not to forget, as someone posted previously things like live wallpapers or background process. Task Killers have been known to cause battery drain for instance.
Good luck in your quest for battery life!
Hans
if you go to battery use in settings, youd probably find out whats causing your battery drain

[Q] High battery drain (50-100 mA in current widget in sleep)

I have an unlocked T-Mobile Sensation 4G and I've tried a lot of different rom (with Sense and AOSP, GB and ICS).
I had made battery calibration every rom change (Full charge -> wipe battery stats -> do some full discharge/charge circles in normal use).
Every time I have 50-100 mA battery drain in "sleep" according to Current Widget and another battery widget (tried another to commit that Current Widget tells truth).
The phone settings are maximum power-saving:
Fixed small brightness
2g only
Data and auto-sync are turned off
Wifi only if needed
CPU is downclocked to 1.2 gHz
Battery is stock. Phone is two months old.
In my regular usage (1 hours of calls, 10 min wifi) phone dies in 12 hours after full charge.
It is not my first android and I'm not a total noob. My Desire HD with one year old battery live 2 days with my usage.
Also I notice, that sometimes battery left is not accurate and changed after reboot to a bigger value. For example, 80% left -> reboot -> 82% left.
Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance!
Sorry for my poor English...
My suggestions:
1. Use system tuner or a similar app to check up on which apps are draining the most power (keeping the CPU on, etc).
2. If no culprit can be found, full wipe and reflash your ROM, and refrain from downloading any apps, see if that improves battery drain. If it does, slowly install more apps until the battery drain goes up again, and you'll know whats causing it.
3. If reflashing does not help batter life, you might want to try another ROM or kernel.
4. If none of those help, or even if they do, I highly recommend an ANKER battery, it'll at the very least boost your battery life a few more hours.
5. If the battery life still sucks, then it might be a hardware issue and you might want to get it exchanged or whatnot.
I used to have the same high battery drain problem, but after flashing new ROMS/Kernels and switching to an ANKER Battery, I now get 2 days of light/medium use out of my Sensation.
Currently using Insert Coin 4.5.0 with 1.5GHz overclock+undervolt if you're interested in trying.

How much does your battery actually drain overnight? Should be around 1% per hour or less if all is well. Disregard currentwidget in deep sleep mode as the Sensation has a very broken meter.

I'll check it this night.
With jumping battery meter I don't know if these values will be correct. But when the battery value reaches 0% the phone shuts down immediately and don't turn on. So 0% it counts well.
i think im also having the same issue . i checked current usage when in sleep mode.its between 50-80

12hrs with the standard battery is actually very good for a sense build, without sense it should go around 15 - if the battery is in good condition. The battery driver for the sensation is very buggy and you won't get accurate results with any measurement app. Don't worry about the standby or inuse readings as they will both be wrong.
If you're battery drains faster than 1% per hour in standby, assuming you are in a good signal area, then use a system info app to see which program isn't sleeping, then uninstall that program.
But it doesn't sound to me like you have a problem.
According to the log file it drains 1-2% in hour (now I'm using aosp build, MIUI). I think, new Anker battery is the only way. Thanks to all!
Maybe in the future we'll get a more accurate battery driver...

Anyone having crappy battery life with ICS?

Just curious is it just me or does the Skyrocket have ****tier battery life running on ICS compared to it running on Gingerbread? Anyone else having battery problems. I've been running ICS on my I727r for 2 days now and the battery life is very questionable. Probably a battery stat reset will work :S

I did do a battery stat wipe and drained it and recharged it to full.

Yeah, my battery went out pretty damn quick yesterday, but that could be because I've been fussing with my phone more than normal.
The first day of using ics my battery life was okay. The second day my battery life sucked. Why? Because I set up Facebook. Battery manager showed 10% use and I hadn't even checked it. Its the bloat!

Same, my i727r battery life is horrible since i flashed ICS.
I have noticed that my android system is pulling a lot of juice compared to GB. I made some changes today like freeze all the bloat + installed UCLC4 modem. And wiped battery stats + complete drain and discharge of the battery. Lets see if it get better after a few cycles.
My battery seems a lot better! Way way way better. 25 minutes of web and its still full!

Battery has been much better for me with ICS.
Freezing tons of bloat helps..
My battery life has been horrible on ICS but when I look at the battery thing, Face Unlock used 35% of my batter (when my batter was 5% left) o-o it takes THAT much?
My battery life is absolutely amazing with ICS.
I have the stock rom debloated completely, and a lot of junk is disabled. Coupled with turning off auto brightness and leaving data off when i don't use it, the battery just chugs along.
This morning I got in my car at 7 AM, started playing music full blast through the stereo for an hour. Got to class, played some temple run, approximately a half hour worth. 30 texts or so, one 1 minute phone call. (data was off the entire time, it keeps facebook from butting in from behind) My battery has literally only gone down 10%, and it's 1 PM
I'm in love.
Seems fine here, I usually have it plugged in but today am testing it without. The couple charge blips are from when I had to get some files off of it.
I froze a bunch of the AT&T bloatware, have had Wi-fi, BT, GPS enabled the entire time. Moderate/light use... I've attached some screens.
I'm running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567817 with the flashable ICS modem.
My battery has been horrible but it's only been a day for me and my signal has been fluctuating a lot on day one. It's stabilized now so we'll see after a few days of use. But right now it is horrible.
It seems mine is doing worse.
But I have been adding a lot of stuff since this is my first time rooting.
I am about to get a battery depleted(at 12% right now) and reset the battery statistics and install the OEM battery.

I thought there was a lot of debating over deleting the battery stats, i remember an article from a google programmer saying that it actually decreases battery performance...i personally stopped doing it a year ago and noticed a better batter experience, most of the time bad battery comes from a bad flash or apps that run in the backround and use location services
My battery life was horrible with ICS so im back to GB. At work with phone in pocket for 2hrs and was already down to 75% off killing battery and charging it fully next day. When I got home after 8hrs of work already at 50% and thats when its in sleep mode. Using it I would drain 1% every couple minutes definitly bloat. Might try new debloated ones but kinda skeptical since GB gives me amazing battery life.
Once the kernel source drops custom kernels will make all you guys stop crying your all used to optimized stuff not samsucks stuff lol give it time

Well condiering I have never reset them and did this first and only flash of the ICS leak, I'm hoping it helps out. We'll see what happens.
I have Juicedefender turning everything off while sleeping(set widgetlocker to deinied so when locked, widget locker stays active to be ready, and juicedefender see's that and turns off data)
On my 2100mAh nexus battery I barely got over a day(was getting 36-40 hours on GB)
Either way, I have two batteries so I'll deal with it until either an official ICS release or a new rom with better battery performance comes around.
I also have the nexus battery. Def have less battery life with this version of ics .
It could be the algorithm the use. At the start of the day is slowly draws down. As the day goes on it seems to drain faster

Actually, I have been having the Best battery life to date. I will post my list of APK's that I removed. I don't do FB or anything like that, so not sure if that is affecting it. Also, in a non LTE area. on the UCLA3 kernel, I was absolutely getting horrid battery life.
I live in an LTE area and I am getting almost a full day of use. Never got that with GB. I keep wanting to charge it, but I dont have to.
I do have Juice Defender running though, and it disables my data in 15 or 30 min intervals when the screen is locked. And I have SetCPU which limits the CPU to a max of 384 when the screen is locked.

[Q] Heavy battery drain issue - help troubleshoot

Of late, I have been having heavy drain of battery on my Atrix 2. I am running JB 4.1.2 (672.300.404.ME865.Retail.en.05). Trying to troubleshoot it (including recalibration) since the last few days without luck.
The symptoms...
- Sudden shut down - Have had 50%+ charge levels. Goes down to 5% and shuts down within minutes. (You can see the random drops in the charge levels in the pic)
- Completely drained out battery charges from above 40% when plugged in & charges to 100% in no time. (that 67% charge in the attachment is within 5 mimutes of power plug in)
Does the battery need a replacement?

Try changing battery... even i had same problem with Custom rom. Battery used to last only for 10 to 12 hours but now its more than 17 hours on JB 4.1.2 leak,,,,...Use stock rom. and remove any unncessesary apps and installl ROM again if u want :good:
How old is your Atrix 2? If over a year then battery surely begins to give lesser performance. Disable any other task killer / memory manager & just let OS do its thing. See if installing Media Scan disable from play helps & do not keep using random chargers, make use of original charger as received with phone. Finally see Better Battery Stats. It is said battery stats should never be wiped but see if it helps you and finally search for Apex's better battery life guide for many handy tips.
I disabled notifications, sync, froze higher wakelock apps & my battery life improved a bit but then it is no fun existing in a bare bones environment.

The phone is just about a year and half old. The drop in battery performance is just too drastic, sometimes it doesn't even last an hour after the charge. Will try to go back to original ROM and see if it improves else will probably have to go for a new battery pack.

I couldn't write to developer's forum so I'm asking here.
I've recently firmwared my AT&T A2 CM 10.1.3 and battery drains really fast! The previous build was CM 10.1 (25th of June). I wiped cache and dalvik cache and firmwared CM 10.1.3. At least 3 people report that thie batteries on this ROM drain slow.

Battery life varies so much from user to user that it is impossible to answer your question without A LOT more information.
Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
Download the app and follow the directions in the op. That and reading through that thread itself should tell you everything you need to know about what is using up your battery.
That being said, everyone has different habits and expectations when it comes to their battery. What one person says is good battery life, another will likely say is bad. So just keep in mind that there is not a right or wrong, just what is right or wrong for you.
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.
Thank you fro your answer. When I used previous version of CM the battery lasted 3 days with minimal using and turning the flight mode at night on.
As long as I installed newer version with JBX kernel the battery lasts 20 hrs max.
