[GUIDE] GPS Fix for the GB Leak for the G2x - T-Mobile LG G2x

So, after installing the GB Leak, I noticed that GPS was hosed. I was able to resolve this and get locks again by following the steps below. (This has also been confirmed by Atantian that it fixes GPS when going from the GB leak back down to 2.2.2)
dial 1809#*999#
Scroll down to GPS Test
Check Use Extended Conf File (this will be for gps.conf in /data/gps which I will include with the Bionix 2 release)
Click System Settings
Check Use XTRAS
Click SUPL Setting
Click SLP Server Setting
Here, you can test for best results. I am using the Spirent server
Hit back x3
Click Get Position
Hit Menu
Click Settings
Session Type> Single Fix
Oper Mode > MS-Based
Hit Back
Go outside in a clear view
Hit Menu
Hit Start.
Let it do its thing for 10-15...
You should be good to go.
Again, for SLP server, test each one out.
Once done, you can grab GPS Test from the market and should have instant locks.

Thanks Again,
Followed the instructions worked perfect.
I went from Stock > CM7 > Stock and my GPS would take forever to lock once back on my stock ROM.
I found Spirent option to be the best and insta locked 5 Satallites. (Checked via gps check application)
Confirmed 2.3GB to 2.2 Froyo works to fix GPS
Thanks Again!
TW / Krylon you are appreciated

Works on cm7?

Yes, it should. I went from stock to CM7 and the Gingerbread messed my GPS up. I went back to stock and the GPS was still messed up. I then followed Krylons instructions and it fixed the issue.
If you are on CM7 - try it and tell us if it works. - you can always do it again and go back to Tmobile Sats if it doesnt work.
I tested the 2.3CM7 > 2.2stock I volunteer you for the CM7 Test lol =p

Mine didn't work with the Spirent server after 15 minutes, now I am trying the T-mobile server.
EDIT: Didn't work with T-mobile server... Now I will try the last one...
EDIT 2: No server worked for me. I wonder what I am doing wrong. I am on the GB leak rom. When I press menu+start and let it sit for 15 minutes outside on a balcony, I come back to it and everything is still solid 0's and google maps still won't lock a signal...
EDIT 3: I think you missed a step. Before selecting "Get position" I selected Apply for Setting Values and things look like they are working in the test.
EDIT 4: I still can't get an accurate fix. The closest I have got is 96m. I get anywhere between that and 12,000m.

My GPS has been totally hosed since trying the GB leak and reverting back to 2.2.2, so I will give this a try! Thanks.

How long should it be saying "ussd code running" before it comes up with the other screens? Waited 5 minutes and did a battery pull

It shouldn't. Its not a ussd code. You're entering it wrong.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk

This is giving me improved accuracy; however, when I attempt to get driving navigation from google maps, it stalls on "searching for gps" and can never get an accurate enough lock to function.
Again, I went from stock to GB leak and am still on GB leak.
EDIT: I changed the Session Type to Tracking instead of Single fix and now it locks 10+ satellites instead of 3. I will take this on a navigation run and report back.

When I enter the code itself, nothing happens. If I hit the send key, it then pulls up the USSD message. For what it's worth though, the CheckIn code still works no problem

Did you freeze any LG services i.e. com.lge.hiddenmenu?
Another way in is to use the app.Anycut to make a shortcut.

Didn't freeze anything. However, I cannot seem to find the lge.hiddenmenu on my phone. I would presume it to be in /system/app?
EDIT:
Did a full search with Root Explorer and couldn't find it. Could you send the APK to me at [email protected] along with the correct folder it should be in? TIA

This deff works! In one try..instant lock

Confirmed not working on gb leak.
The phone will find and utilize gps just fine.
However, you restart the phone, you have to perform the test over again

lock is only half the equation.
Getting an accurate enough lock to use google navigation is the tough part. Well, that and getting it to lock that accurate again after a restart.

I tried I keep getting ussd code im on cm7

[i9000 and i9003] [HOWTO] get a gps lock! :)

Hi! Ive seen many people whining that their gps is not locking so i decided to post the optimum settings which kind of helps fixing your gps. I have only tested the 1st method and it works perfectly.
NOTE: If the code does'nt work you can get into lbs testmode by first installing launcher pro then long pressing at home screen click shortcut>>activities>>> lbs test mode>>choose the first option
FOR i9003 users: You Can flash to XXKB3 Firmware to resolve the gps issue!
Method One – Most Successful , quickest GPS lock
Disable ‘Use Wireless Networks’ under Settings —> Location and Security.
Go into LbsTestMode (*#*#3214789650#*#*) or (use the shortcut method)
Go to Application Settings
Enable MS-Based Mode(in operation mode )
Increase Accuracy to 100
Leave the rest stock
Return to the main LbsTestMode menu
Go to SUPL/CP Settings
Select the Serve FQDN Type drop down menu
Hit AUTO Config
Exit to the dialer and reboot your Vibrant twice for good measure.
Method Two – Untested
1 – Disable “Use Wireless Networks” – Settings / Location & Security
2 – Dial *#*#3214789650#*#*
3 – Under “Application settings” Change “Operation Mode” to MS Based
4 – Under “SUPL/CP Settings” Change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 [ Do not use www. in front of supl]
5 – REBOOT
6 – Turn back on the “User Wireless Networks”
Method Three – Untested by myself, but others have said it works
1 – Dial *#*#3214789650#*#*
2 – Go outside to get an unimpeded GPS fix.
3 – Choose Delete GPS Data button.
4 – Choose Get Position Test button. Let it run for 3 min or until you have 10 to 12 Sat locks and back out.
Method Four- By Joymoro
in Application Settings
operation mode - >Standalone
Start Mode -> hot start
Accuracy -> 100
SUPL/CP Settings
Serve FQDN Type -> Custom Config
Server -> supl.google.com
port -> 7276.
Thank me if i helped you
Yes...it works.
Just change standalone to ms based .
Your gps will lock < 10-15 seconds

I tried this method and when i opened google maps it said location unavailable.
Please assist in fixing this.
Also which app tells u how many sats you get a lock on
I tried the GPS test in LbdTestMode. It locked me on 8 sats in about 3-4 mins.
How do i get a lock within a few secs as many other users are getting?

The first lockon always takes time.....later it only takes about 10-15 secs
So now that i did my first lock it shoud tkae max 10-15secs to get my location in maps.
Lemme go out and try that.

Yes it should bcoz it cache the location to assist the satellite locking.
This really worked man! Method one was the key to my GPS woes! Really appreciate you sharing this here, now I get GPS locks within 10-15 secs...
Samsung should change the default settings itself to 'MS Based' instead of 'standalone', would save a lot of frustration for their users!

Still the same. Maps say location unavailable.
What to do?
Is your data connection available or not ? once its locked it needs to download the data from mobile towers.

[Q] Hidden Menu - Test Fail

I use the Hidden Menu to adjust the LED brightness, but I don't really know anything else about the many things in it. I was looking at the various tests and checking them out today and noticed something weird. When I did the Gyro Cal Test (in Device Test just above the LED brightness one), I got "Functional Test Result: FAIL" as the result. That doesn't sound good.
Can anyone try that test and see if something is wrong with my phone or if the G2x is supposed to fail that test.
I don't know if my device has always failed that test or, if not, when it started. The only thing that is wrong with my phone is that the screen doesn't come back on after the proximity sensor turns it off during a call. Either the other person ends the call or I have to pull the battery. If you know how to fix that, I'm all ears! [I'm running Tsugi with stock kernel.]
And speaking of the Hidden Menu, does anybody know anything else useful in it other than the LED brightness adjustment?

Not all items in the Hidden Menu have to do with the G2x, example FM Radio Test. I get the same results with the Gyro Cal Test.

Here are two ways of getting to it here.
It's got a bunch of tests for your phone. I've never heard of any major uses for it other than what I do with it, which is adjust the "Touch LED Brightness." I like to turn them down.
You can also set some parameters that are used for GPS; in particular, some people have reported significant speedups by using the Google SUPL server instead of one of the three that are available in the stock ROM.

Where can I choose to use Google SUPL? It's not listed on mine. Only T-Mobile, Spirent, and LGE SUPL. The T-Mobile one was chosen by default on mine. Do you know what is meant by "Use XTRAS" in the same sub-menu?
Yes, those are the three I mentioned that are available in the stock ROM. You have to add the Google SUPL server before you can select it. If you go to the SLP Server Setting screen and hit the menu button, you'll get the choices Add, Edit, and Delete. Hit Add and set "name" to Google, "slp address" to supl.google.com, "port" to 7276, and "certification file" to /etc/SuplRootCert. Leave "TLS Setting" unchecked. Hit the menu button and then Save. You should then have a Google entry you can select. I'm not sure about "Use XTRAS", but mine is checked.

Awesome! And you say this will help with GPS? Do you know what it does/how it works differently? Do you use the Google one? Maybe that makes XTRAS become checked because currently mine is unchecked. It is listed as "Disabled."
I do use the Google server, but it's not clear to me whether it helps or not because my TTFF is not great (but not terrible) and varies a lot. Some people have reported that it gives a big improvement. I don't know what the difference might be other than possibly increased bandwidth or decreased latency when downloading the AGPS data. I don't know what the story is with XTRAS. Sorry I can't help more; you can find several threads here referring to the Google SUPL server.

hardware keyboard setting question

So I'm running cyanogen7 and I've run across a weird issue that I'm sure is just a setting that I messed up somewhere. Anytime I try to use the hardware keyboard, weather in a text field or not, there are certain keys bound to certain applications. For example; if I hit 'b' it takes me to the browser, if I hit 'e' it takes me to email. Can anyone tell me where this setting is so I can turn it off? I just can't seem to find it.

Yes this is a common bug that's supposed to be fixed on the last nightly 255 or UKE.
The settings are in settings -> quick launch.
Long press on each one and press delete.
Only way to get around the bug is to reboot without deleting all the shortcuts.

It's always bugged me too. I told toastcfh to remove it by default from CM7. I will mention this to one_love_420 and ask him to remove this from UKE since toastcfh is usually too busy to respond.
That is a really annoying bug! But no big deal if a reboot is the fix.

GPS force fixed with CleanRomRom/ClemsyKernel

Hello, In my case where GPS stopped working after I installed CleanRom. If your GPS is working you don't need to read this thread. If you want to help out, please welcome. After tried many tricks and trades in the book, I found one solution that may resolved this issue, It works for me but may not work for you, just give it a try and report back. Here is the issue: when "GPS satellites" option is checked in Settings->Location Services and then you try to open maps and tab on the gps icon on the most top, it's trying to locate your location using GPS satellites. You also going to see the GPS icon in the notification, but it's not blinking (meaning it's not working). Here is what I did to force it to work:
1. Make sure your wifi is working.(you have internet connectivity)
2. In Settings->Location Services-> put a check to "Google's location service" (the top option), but leave the other two options UNCHECKED. Tab "agree" button when prompted for.
3. Open "Maps" app and tab on the GPS icon on the top (next to the microphone icon). At this time you should able to have a lock on your location. Try to find any addresses to verify it's can locate them.
4. Now go back to Location Services and put a check to "GPS satellite", now you should have both top options checked, and the last bottom option, which is "Location & Google search is UNCHECKED)
5. Go back to your Maps app and hit the GPS icon located on top next to the microphone icon again, now take a look at the gps icon in the notification bar (all way at the bottom), you should see it's blinking.(meaning the GPS is now working)
6. Go back to Location Services and uncheck the "Google's location service", so now should only have the "GPS satellites" checked (the middle option).
7. Go back to Maps and hit the GPS icon you should see the GPS icon in the notification is blinking and working.
Now your GPS should be working as normal. You can reboot, turn it off, turn it back on anyway you like. Please report back if it indeeds fixed your issue. Good luck.
-------------
Also try hard reset (push the reset button or do a cold boot).
Thanks for the detailed walkthrough.

Having a similar problem and using search brought me here.
I do not think that my GPS not functioning is a ROM issue, but I am wondering :
-I purchased the device in Germany and it was working well there
-I brought it to Russia and it is not showing any GPS fix since
-I unlocked bootloader and rooted today, still no GPS difference
Is a 'German' device not able to find a lock 'abroad' ?
I did give it more than 30 minutes outside to try, my HTC oneX+ was able to spot 18 sat's being inside the house

Ruud

I received the device and did an OTA upgrade to 10.4.4.23 which was WW.
The GPS receipt was OK at that moment, it showed my whereabouts at times I received my internet through a phone (thethering).
I now did change to : CleanROM 3.1 Inheritance
But the 'no GPS fix' problem occurred right after I arrived in Russia, not connecting with my flashing of a new ROM.
It was showing the weather for a German town for days, even though I was walking outside looking for GPS receipt for a long time.

But the 'no GPS fix' problem occurred right after I arrived in Russia, not connecting with my flashing of a new ROM.
It was showing the weather for a German town for days, even though I was walking outside looking for GPS receipt for a long time.

Clear data was done for 'Google Services Framework', 'GPS Status', 'Maps' & '2GIS'. After that a short press on the power button and 'reboot' was chosen.
A quick look in GPS Status shows no satellite at all.

When you open maps and tap on the "gps" icon on the top, did you see the "gps" icon in your dock lid up (not hollow)?

If I open maps, it is first asking for permissions, that because I was playing around with that Yesterday based on the recommendations here. I gave these (locations are all tapped on now)
After that I see maps with a accuracy of 20m correctly showing where I am but I am afraid that is because of WiFi connection, not GPS.
I do not know which is the GPS symbol, the first one changes 2D to 3D,the rest is also not showing any reaction connected with GPS. The GPS icon is blinking, also GPS Status icon is showing that it is looking for a connection.

Ruud

OK, atleast everything is working excepted for locking onto any Sat. Have you try this sequence yet?
Good luck.
*** If not working I will send you a zip file to flash using recovery.

Yes, I have done so, or at least tried to do so. As I said, my MAPS do not show an icon for GPS, nor do I see a microphone icon.
I have nevertheless walked through the sequence to see if it helps. But I see only a blinking which says "Searching for GPS".

[Q] NFC Options are Disabled?

Hi everyone...
I was at the gas station last night, and thought I'd try using NFC/Google Wallet to try paying for something for the first time.
I went in to turn on NFC, and found that the option is completely grayed out. (The button is set to "on", but its grayed out, and cannot be turned off)
Android Beam is disabled/grayed out.
S Beam is enabled, but I can't seem to change it.
Tap and Pay is disabled, and says, "NFC is turned off".
Something is clearly FUBAR'd here.
I've tried rebooting a couple times.
I've tried pulling the battery (yes, its the original OEM battery).
I've tried wiping data for NFC.
I tried re-installing the stock ROM, and it didn't fix anything.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks..
Just a follow up here... I've also tried a complete wipe of the device... still no go.

Yes.
And when I did a complete wipe and re-install, I was able to verify that its happening with the stock kernel also, so I don't believe it to be a kernel issue.
I was able to try a different battery today... from someone else with an S5, and the same problem exists.
My next step is to try unrooting and going back to complete stock... obviously I'd like to avoid this if at all possible.
Any other suggestions? Anyone?
Well, I did it today.. unrooted, went back to full stock everything... and I still cant change the NFC setting on my S5.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm more than open to anything at this point...

Do you have insurance ? I would think about taking it to a Sprint store and see what they say. You might have a hardware problem

No, but I may get it for this. What a bummer.
Could someone be so kind as to post a copy of their /data/data/com.android.nfc/shared_prefs/SamsungNfcPrefs.xml file for me?
Also, can you tell me if you have an nxpdevicehost.xml file in that same directory?
Thanks!
Here are the latest details. I feel like I'm so close, yet so far.
Background:
When I would reboot my S5, the NFC setting would be set to "On", but disabled and wouldn't let me change it. On top of that, my phone would never go into Deep Sleep. After exhaustive research, it appears that the phone was constantly trying to enable NFC, which prevented it from hitting Deep Sleep.
I've dug thru a lot of the AOSP code, and discovered the following.
- If I change the nfc_on tag from true to false in my NfcServicePrefs.xml, and add a line setting first_boot = false, NFC does not try to turn on when I reboot the next time (This solves my deep sleep problem).
- If I try to manually turn NFC on after that, it gets stuck the same as before I made any changes to the XML file.
- Based on this code, it looks like there is a java call to "mDeviceHost.initialize()". I'm guessing this is where I'm getting borked.
- The initalize function, found here, seems to want a file called NxpDeviceHost.XML. I cannot find this file anyplace on my S5.
My assumption here is that Samsung forked this process and made their own internal changes. I'm looking at AOSP code, but that doesn't help if Samsung changed things on their end.
Can ANYONE help me debug things from here? I'm a developer by trade, but have never worked in JAVA (although I've figured out how to read enough of it to become dangerous). I dont need a lot of hand-holding... just a push in the right direction here.
Thanks!

Actually contents of both XML files in the /data/data/com.android.nfc/shared_prefs would be appreciated.

Here ya go. Attached is a zip with everything that was in the shared-prefs folder
I have the same issue on an LG-e970. The NFC option is checked and grayed out, I can't change it. It's always been this way since I got the phone. The new problem in the past 48 hours is some OTA update is causing Nfc Service to prevent the phone from sleeping, but I have no idea what it is. I thought maybe Google Wallet so I uninstalled it, but the problem remains. It happened well after the Android 4.4.4 Cm11-M8 update for this phone. I filed a bug at code google dot com bug ID 74037, which this silly forum won't let me post because I'm too new and it doesn't understand the difference between a google code URL and spam.
Weird. So I powered off the phone, let it charge to 100%, booted in safe mode, Settings > Storage > Cache and reset it, rebooted in normal mode, and let the phone sit unused for 1 hour. The problem with Nfc Service is not occurring, the phone is sleeping most of the time now. When I go to Settings > More > NFC is unchecked, not grayed out. Inexplicable, because I've had no way to uncheck it.
So I just checked it, and it immediately grays out so I can't uncheck it again. I'm leaving the phone unused for another hour and see where things are at.

Nfc Service is once again the top battery consumer and won't let the system sleep. The bugreport for the state with the problem (in contrast to the report for the state without the problem):
many instances of:
07-24 11:23:16.870 1064 8319 E NFCJNI : emergency_recovery: NFC stack dead-locked
and also
Wake lock 1027 NfcService:mRoutingWakeLock: 1h 6m 26s 537ms (0 times) realtime
Wake lock NfcService:mRoutingWakeLock: 1h 6m 26s 537ms partial (0 times) realtime
Wake Locks: size=1
PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK 'NfcService:mRoutingWakeLock' (uid=1027, pid=1064, ws=null)
I've booted recovery, formatted /cache and erased Dalvik cache, see where that goes... obviously if I can figure out how to disable the NFC option again, that solves the no sleep problem.
had same issue but with note 3. It was kernel issue so reverted to the previous kernel i was on and its o
Sorry to bring this thread back to life, but I'm having the same issue and would like to know which solution worked out for you. Thanks.
