Hi! Ive seen many people whining that their gps is not locking so i decided to post the optimum settings which kind of helps fixing your gps. I have only tested the 1st method and it works perfectly.
NOTE: If the code does'nt work you can get into lbs testmode by first installing launcher pro then long pressing at home screen click shortcut>>activities>>> lbs test mode>>choose the first option
FOR i9003 users: You Can flash to XXKB3 Firmware to resolve the gps issue!
Method One – Most Successful , quickest GPS lock
Disable ‘Use Wireless Networks’ under Settings —> Location and Security.
Go into LbsTestMode (*#*#3214789650#*#*) or (use the shortcut method)
Go to Application Settings
Enable MS-Based Mode(in operation mode )
Increase Accuracy to 100
Leave the rest stock
Return to the main LbsTestMode menu
Go to SUPL/CP Settings
Select the Serve FQDN Type drop down menu
Hit AUTO Config
Exit to the dialer and reboot your Vibrant twice for good measure.
Method Two – Untested
1 – Disable “Use Wireless Networks” – Settings / Location & Security
2 – Dial *#*#3214789650#*#*
3 – Under “Application settings” Change “Operation Mode” to MS Based
4 – Under “SUPL/CP Settings” Change the SERVER & PORT to supl.google.com and port 7276 [ Do not use www. in front of supl]
5 – REBOOT
6 – Turn back on the “User Wireless Networks”
Method Three – Untested by myself, but others have said it works
1 – Dial *#*#3214789650#*#*
2 – Go outside to get an unimpeded GPS fix.
3 – Choose Delete GPS Data button.
4 – Choose Get Position Test button. Let it run for 3 min or until you have 10 to 12 Sat locks and back out.
Method Four- By Joymoro
in Application Settings
operation mode - >Standalone
Start Mode -> hot start
Accuracy -> 100
SUPL/CP Settings
Serve FQDN Type -> Custom Config
Server -> supl.google.com
port -> 7276.
Thank me if i helped you
Yes...it works.
Just change standalone to ms based .
Your gps will lock < 10-15 seconds

I tried this method and when i opened google maps it said location unavailable.
Please assist in fixing this.
Also which app tells u how many sats you get a lock on
I tried the GPS test in LbdTestMode. It locked me on 8 sats in about 3-4 mins.
How do i get a lock within a few secs as many other users are getting?

The first lockon always takes time.....later it only takes about 10-15 secs
So now that i did my first lock it shoud tkae max 10-15secs to get my location in maps.
Lemme go out and try that.

Yes it should bcoz it cache the location to assist the satellite locking.
This really worked man! Method one was the key to my GPS woes! Really appreciate you sharing this here, now I get GPS locks within 10-15 secs...
Samsung should change the default settings itself to 'MS Based' instead of 'standalone', would save a lot of frustration for their users!

Still the same. Maps say location unavailable.
What to do?
Is your data connection available or not ? once its locked it needs to download the data from mobile towers.

Not sure if the title is right but i was wondering is there any type of software or tweaks or even settings that will disconnect the internet over a certain period of time or in activity on it? I only use the internet on the phone to check facebook and to update the weather. I sometimes browse the internet when im on a train etc... but thats not very often.
I have a 500meg limit per month and im scared for example it updates the weather and i forget to turn the internet off manually over a certain period of time say a few days etc... i will go over my limit.
There's a spot in Advanced Config that does this; but it's not on the main page - I believe you have to go into something like options-advanced options.
I've got mine set to 2 minutes inactive.

ok i assume you mean this "Menu" > "More settings" > "Connections" then change the "Disconnect after: xx Minutes"
Does this mean if there is no activity it will disconnect or does it mean it will disconnect after xx minutes no matter what your doing browsing etc...
it will shut off connection after certain period of inactivity

Download advanced config here
install to phone and reset
then follow the instruction in the #3 post by Y2Stu
So, after installing the GB Leak, I noticed that GPS was hosed. I was able to resolve this and get locks again by following the steps below. (This has also been confirmed by Atantian that it fixes GPS when going from the GB leak back down to 2.2.2)
dial 1809#*999#
Scroll down to GPS Test
Check Use Extended Conf File (this will be for gps.conf in /data/gps which I will include with the Bionix 2 release)
Click System Settings
Check Use XTRAS
Click SUPL Setting
Click SLP Server Setting
Here, you can test for best results. I am using the Spirent server
Hit back x3
Click Get Position
Hit Menu
Click Settings
Session Type> Single Fix
Oper Mode > MS-Based
Hit Back
Go outside in a clear view
Hit Menu
Hit Start.
Let it do its thing for 10-15...
You should be good to go.
Again, for SLP server, test each one out.
Once done, you can grab GPS Test from the market and should have instant locks.
Thanks Again,
Followed the instructions worked perfect.
I went from Stock > CM7 > Stock and my GPS would take forever to lock once back on my stock ROM.
I found Spirent option to be the best and insta locked 5 Satallites. (Checked via gps check application)
Confirmed 2.3GB to 2.2 Froyo works to fix GPS
Thanks Again!
TW / Krylon you are appreciated
Works on cm7?
Yes, it should. I went from stock to CM7 and the Gingerbread messed my GPS up. I went back to stock and the GPS was still messed up. I then followed Krylons instructions and it fixed the issue.
If you are on CM7 - try it and tell us if it works. - you can always do it again and go back to Tmobile Sats if it doesnt work.
I tested the 2.3CM7 > 2.2stock I volunteer you for the CM7 Test lol =p

Mine didn't work with the Spirent server after 15 minutes, now I am trying the T-mobile server.
EDIT: Didn't work with T-mobile server... Now I will try the last one...
EDIT 2: No server worked for me. I wonder what I am doing wrong. I am on the GB leak rom. When I press menu+start and let it sit for 15 minutes outside on a balcony, I come back to it and everything is still solid 0's and google maps still won't lock a signal...
EDIT 3: I think you missed a step. Before selecting "Get position" I selected Apply for Setting Values and things look like they are working in the test.
EDIT 4: I still can't get an accurate fix. The closest I have got is 96m. I get anywhere between that and 12,000m.
My GPS has been totally hosed since trying the GB leak and reverting back to 2.2.2, so I will give this a try! Thanks.

It shouldn't. Its not a ussd code. You're entering it wrong.

This is giving me improved accuracy; however, when I attempt to get driving navigation from google maps, it stalls on "searching for gps" and can never get an accurate enough lock to function.
Again, I went from stock to GB leak and am still on GB leak.
EDIT: I changed the Session Type to Tracking instead of Single fix and now it locks 10+ satellites instead of 3. I will take this on a navigation run and report back.

When I enter the code itself, nothing happens. If I hit the send key, it then pulls up the USSD message. For what it's worth though, the CheckIn code still works no problem

Didn't freeze anything. However, I cannot seem to find the lge.hiddenmenu on my phone. I would presume it to be in /system/app?
EDIT:
Did a full search with Root Explorer and couldn't find it. Could you send the APK to me at [email protected] along with the correct folder it should be in? TIA
This deff works! In one try..instant lock
Confirmed not working on gb leak.
The phone will find and utilize gps just fine.
However, you restart the phone, you have to perform the test over again

lock is only half the equation.
Getting an accurate enough lock to use google navigation is the tough part. Well, that and getting it to lock that accurate again after a restart.
I tried I keep getting ussd code im on cm7
Ok, so I may be a little iffy here.
I have tasker and secure settings w/ helper installed and I'm running the latest version of cleanrom lite.
So in secure settings I have the GPS option enabled via helper and in Tasker I'm able to select it as a misc action.
What I want to do is have it enable GPS when I launch the Map, Nav, or Places application and disable when I leave them. I think I have it set up properly, but my problem is it isn't enabling the GPS. The profile will enable but it won't change the setting.
Any feedback here?
Edit: I found the fix. I feel derpy. For anyone looking to do something similar once you have Secure Settings w/ Helper installed and you go to set the setting in Tasker do not attempt to go Misc - > GPS. It won't work. Instead select Plugin -> Secure Settings -> Configuration and choose GPS. That'll get it working for you just peachy.

can someone help?
Edited to add: found the answer; the right side green check boxes needed to be checked.
Thank you thank you. I've been looking for this fix. love tasker not easy to use though
Thank you!

I've tried this I've set it to enabled and toggle and nothing happens when I open my satnav app waze.
Any ideas
Just as a note : be careful with this particular formula in Tasker. I use it as well, but the problem is if you're using, say, a navigation program. You open it up, Tasker sees it open, enables GPS, everything is right with the world. You're chugging along. You stop at a red light, and... get a text or something, and you tap to see it. As soon as you switch away from the navigation app, even if it's running in the background, Tasker will count that as "exiting" the program, and disable GPS (at least in my experience). Your navigation app will still run in the background but not have GPS to tell you where to go until you bring it to the foreground again.
Can you get Tasker/GPS to work on an un-rooted phone?
No.

Hello, In my case where GPS stopped working after I installed CleanRom. If your GPS is working you don't need to read this thread. If you want to help out, please welcome. After tried many tricks and trades in the book, I found one solution that may resolved this issue, It works for me but may not work for you, just give it a try and report back. Here is the issue: when "GPS satellites" option is checked in Settings->Location Services and then you try to open maps and tab on the gps icon on the most top, it's trying to locate your location using GPS satellites. You also going to see the GPS icon in the notification, but it's not blinking (meaning it's not working). Here is what I did to force it to work:
1. Make sure your wifi is working.(you have internet connectivity)
2. In Settings->Location Services-> put a check to "Google's location service" (the top option), but leave the other two options UNCHECKED. Tab "agree" button when prompted for.
3. Open "Maps" app and tab on the GPS icon on the top (next to the microphone icon). At this time you should able to have a lock on your location. Try to find any addresses to verify it's can locate them.
4. Now go back to Location Services and put a check to "GPS satellite", now you should have both top options checked, and the last bottom option, which is "Location & Google search is UNCHECKED)
5. Go back to your Maps app and hit the GPS icon located on top next to the microphone icon again, now take a look at the gps icon in the notification bar (all way at the bottom), you should see it's blinking.(meaning the GPS is now working)
6. Go back to Location Services and uncheck the "Google's location service", so now should only have the "GPS satellites" checked (the middle option).
7. Go back to Maps and hit the GPS icon you should see the GPS icon in the notification is blinking and working.
Now your GPS should be working as normal. You can reboot, turn it off, turn it back on anyway you like. Please report back if it indeeds fixed your issue. Good luck.
-------------
Also try hard reset (push the reset button or do a cold boot).
Thanks for the detailed walkthrough.

Having a similar problem and using search brought me here.
I do not think that my GPS not functioning is a ROM issue, but I am wondering :
-I purchased the device in Germany and it was working well there
-I brought it to Russia and it is not showing any GPS fix since
-I unlocked bootloader and rooted today, still no GPS difference
Is a 'German' device not able to find a lock 'abroad' ?
I did give it more than 30 minutes outside to try, my HTC oneX+ was able to spot 18 sat's being inside the house

I received the device and did an OTA upgrade to 10.4.4.23 which was WW.
The GPS receipt was OK at that moment, it showed my whereabouts at times I received my internet through a phone (thethering).
I now did change to : CleanROM 3.1 Inheritance
But the 'no GPS fix' problem occurred right after I arrived in Russia, not connecting with my flashing of a new ROM.
It was showing the weather for a German town for days, even though I was walking outside looking for GPS receipt for a long time.

Clear data was done for 'Google Services Framework', 'GPS Status', 'Maps' & '2GIS'. After that a short press on the power button and 'reboot' was chosen.
A quick look in GPS Status shows no satellite at all.

If I open maps, it is first asking for permissions, that because I was playing around with that Yesterday based on the recommendations here. I gave these (locations are all tapped on now)
After that I see maps with a accuracy of 20m correctly showing where I am but I am afraid that is because of WiFi connection, not GPS.
I do not know which is the GPS symbol, the first one changes 2D to 3D,the rest is also not showing any reaction connected with GPS. The GPS icon is blinking, also GPS Status icon is showing that it is looking for a connection.

Ruud

OK, atleast everything is working excepted for locking onto any Sat. Have you try this sequence yet?
Good luck.
*** If not working I will send you a zip file to flash using recovery.

Yes, I have done so, or at least tried to do so. As I said, my MAPS do not show an icon for GPS, nor do I see a microphone icon.
I have nevertheless walked through the sequence to see if it helps. But I see only a blinking which says "Searching for GPS".

That is highly appreciated.
Do I understand it like this :
-Power + Vol-Down
-Enter RCK (the TWRP menu)
-Choose install
-Choose the file You send me as the one to be installed
Should any wipes be done before or after this ?

Hey Guys!
I hope it's the right place for the question but there is no Ulefone forum....
I really need help. I have typical mtk problem with my Ulefone T1: fix is lost every few seconds, jumping from road to road while navigation etc.
I tried every tutorial and read every forum! (GPS.conf optimized, epo update, every optimization app,.....) But nothing really helped.
Only following tutorial helped for short time:
1. Turn GPS off on your phone.
2. Open Root Explorer and find the mtkgps.dat file in /data or /data/misc
3. Delete mtkgps.dat
4. Reboot phone
5. Open Mobileuncle Tools
6. Tap on 'Engineer Mode'
7. Tap on 'Engineer Mode (MTK)'
8. Scroll across to 'Location'
9. Tap on 'Location Based Service'
10. Tap on 'AGPS' and then make sure 'A-GPS On/Off' is checked
11. Tap on 'EPO' and then make sure 'Enable EPO' is checked
12. Swipe down (notification bar) and turn GPS on
13. Hit back and then tap 'YGPS'
14. Wait until you get position lock (mine took about 6 seconds).
15. This process should create a new mtkgps.dat file.
16. Hit home button and open GPS Test.
17. You should get a position lock reasonably quickly.
After this tutorial gps is perfect for short time, but after few minutes or if I restart navigation it's same like before.
I made a short video where you can perfectly see my problem:
https://vimeo.com/246691013
I hope anyone has an idea,I'm really frustrated.....
Why do I have perfekt GPS for short time? What does change my mtkgps.data file ?!
Thank you !!!
Ksa
I have the same problem, I think it could be that GPS is like turning off and on constantly, maybe for saving battery? Because it goes well until it says is turned off, the the problems starts....

Yes maybe Android system is to aggressive. Good idea. Im deactivate 'battery optimization' in battery settings for several apps and before navigating I will do the tutorial again and set battery from 'normal' mode to sports mode.
I will report

Keep me posted, I am not rooting yet because I cannot use an app bank even with magisk, but I do need more the GPS and waze so I will do it if it fixes the problem....
If I found something else I will keep posted here.
Can you tell me what have you already done?
Thanks in advance

Okay, you can try magiks hide mode for your banking app. I get just a notice in my bank app that i have rooted ?
I tried:
1. Every gps optimization app, with agps data update, epo update, gps.conf update.
2. Manually optimize gps.conf, epo data's.
3. Different Settings in location based service(engineer mode), ypgs..
4. This tutorial.
(5. Because of rooting I wiped complete phone.)
State now: optimized gps.conf in system/etc, new epo.data in data/misc/gps(but no improveness)
After this I tried the tutorial I already posted and I got the first success, but only for few minutes....
I don't think that gps hardware is bad or broken, I am sure it's a software problem (otherwise I wouldn't get this nice GPS for few minutes after deleting mtkdata....)

Magisk hide doesn't work with my bank app [emoji852]️
Yes I am sure also that has something to do with software and mtk processors.
Thanks for the procedure, I did so far all the tutorials without rooting. In engeneiring mode I cannot see epo options, I assume is because I have no rooting yet.
We will inform about this, I am writing also to ulefone. Let's see if they response.
Best regards, I hope we find some solution, beside this, the phone is good for the price.

I also don't see epo options in engineer mode, it isn't supported, but I changed epo files...
I have already writed to Ulefone but I got no response... Maybe you will have more luck..
Yeah I really like the phone! I'm looking forward for any stable custom roms! Even the camera makes really good photos, even at night with HDR (footej camera pro version) if the camera focused... I don't understand why it has slow focusing.. I think it's software too. But step by step, we will get the full potential of the phone ::good::fingers-crossed:

By the way, are you using other accessories for it? I am using a nilkin cover with flip for iPhone 7s and a glass cover for screen for j7 2017 Samsung. Do you use some other accessories?

Search for Ulefone gemini pro stuff, it's completely the same
I just tried with battery settings but it was not really better...
I noticed if I let YGPS open there I have nice and stable gps fixes! but if I switch to navigation gps fixes lost and not stable.
If I switch back fixes are good and stable haha
I really don't know what the problem is...
P.s.: I think it is worth to root the phone, because in ygps I got more fixes after I delete mtkgps.data and restart phone. But it's not the centre of the problem...
There is first lineageos but not stable and to buggy for daily use but maybe if I have time I make a full backup and try this ROM... Only to know if the problem is solved with other rom

But u see the satellites?
This was same like me, at the very first I got sometimes no fixes.i don't know what really helped of the things I have done, now I got fixes at YGPS
Did you try the tutorial of my first post?
I miss the app " MTK ntp Service". Do you have the app in settings/battery/battery optimization?

The satellites are there, they are just in red because for some reason the phone can't connect with them while you are in movement, it keeps loosing signal and recover.
I didn't root it yet because I don't think it fixes so far. But if we find solution like that I will do so with no hesitation (I hate all the ads also)...

Yes same like me, now it s a bit better after the processes but the longer navigation is running the worser the GPS signal is becoming.
I think it's a combination between battery saving and wrong settings in our areas...
Sometimes in works perfectly for few minutes...
To look after app you don't need root. Go to battery settings and the the three points in right corner. There search for "mtk ntp service".
I read in a thread about the same problem of elephone p8 that deactivate battery optimization for this could help
https://forum.xda-developers.com/elephone-p9000/help/fix-gps-t3363394/page8

Hey Dude, today it was possible to navigate with Google maps, but not with Waze
What I have done:
Deactivate battery optimization for:
-com.mediatek
-com.mediatek.ims
-com.mediatek.wfo.impl
-e_compass
-EngineerMode
-GBA Service
-fused Location
-LocationEm2
-Maps
-MTK logger.
-Pedometer
-Sensor Calibration
-Waze
-YGPS
Then Deactivate gps
Then delete complete folder "/data/misc/GPS
Restart phone
Open ypgs and press "hot" "full" "agps restart"
Activate gps
Go to ygps again
Search for satellites outside and wait for fixes for minutes
After that following tutorial:
Install MTK Engineering Mode from Google Play
Close Wi-Fi Connection
Open MTK Engineering Mode
Go to MTK Settings
Go to Location
Open Location based Service
Go to GPS
Make sure GPS is off [Button GPS caption must be GPS(off)]
Select every GPS MODE step by step (hot,full,...)
Select Delete for every mode
Go to the AGPS Tab
Disable AGPS (uncheck [Enable A-GPS]
Go Back to the GPS Tab
Enable GPS [Button GPS caption must be now GPS on]
Go to the outside (clear view of the sky is needed)
Got to the view tab
wait until you see at least 6 - 10 sattelites in green state
Go to the GPS Tab
Stop GPS [Button GPS caption must be GPS(off)]
Press the REF POSITION Button
Click on APPLY LAST LOCATION
Go to the AGPS Tab
Enable A-GPS (enable A-GPS must be checked)
Go to the GPS Tab
Start GPS [Button GPS caption must be now GPS (on)]
close MTK Engineering Mode
Disable Wi-Fi!
Then I updated epo files and deleted mtkgps.data with app "epo updater"(apk not from playstore)
Then I copied epo files to /data/misc/gps
Then I put optimized gps.conf data in /system/etc
Restart phone
That's it.
I opened Google maps and it takes a short while to finde location(better don't drive at start)
For the first few minutes it was not stable but then the signal is quite better and it's possible to navigate! Only few jumps for short time!
But if I start Waze i jump from road to road even after several minutes, but on Google maps it was okay, not perfect but okay( I think there are still some software probs but it's no secret that mtk gps isn't the best)
But the most important: i could navigate
I don't know why only Google maps but I will try other apps, and we will see how long navigation will be possible until the GPS will be worser again
I cant attach the GPS.conf and APK file, but when you need it, I will send you the files
And I will update, how stable the GPS is now.
We are on a good way!!?

Hi, do you get it work in waze? And is still working with maps? I bought it a nice commuter Otterbox case (best to resist drops and falls) for iPhone 7 plus and it works almost perfect (just the jack is missing but you can replace it with some Bluetooth device or a USB-c headphones, the port for charging fits perfect and when you know the buttons you can preset without problem)
