It's brick central and I'm the mayor.... any help please? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Seriously stupid mistake.. was in Rom manager and loaded alt recovery.. drinking a bit and thinking I was using my Evo 4g.. so Amon Ra loaded and all I get now is default samsung splash screen!!! what an idiot. also when I plug in a usb at boot I just get this loading circle that freezes immediately. ..... Did I kill it?

I'd go into download mode and reflash it.

Not familiar with samsung.. just switched from my EVO.... but after doing a bit of r&d I finally figured out how to get to the yellow triangle download screen. thanks for the reply guys..
got odin 1.7 and 1.3.. and it downloads.. I get the blue bar loading on the phone about 99 percent .. and gets just about 100 percent then.. odin says "FAIL" in red.. .. I'm gonna keep trying stuff but if you have any experience with this error let me know..
Thanks!! .. I'm feeling like there's hope now!

Is this gonna be one of those cases where there is no hope until a .pit file becomes available?

How did you fix???
I am having the same issue.
I run Odin 1.85 and I get to 99% and it dies right after it says Data.

If you don't want GB, look for RaverX3X's KC1.

Download the KF2 or any rom.
Put phone in download mode.
Open odin. Any version over 1.0.
in PDA section, input the KF2.tar file or rom you downloaded
In Pit section, input the .0512 pit file. Click start and youre good to go.

UPDATE: FOOL PROOF WAY TO GET INTO DOWNLOAD MODE
ayoteddy said:
Try this, take the battery sim and sd card out of your phone.
Open odin, put the tar in pda and pit into pit.
Plug your phone into the usb.
Now bare with me, this part is a bit akward but you can do it.. hold the vol down key and trackball *with one hand* and put the battery in while holding them. You will be in download mode and Odin will detect your phone. Then flash

my 2 cents about the update
btw guys, i know alot of people has complained about things from the update but dont let that scare you. i personally didnt encounter any of them. it seems samsung or tmo cleaned it up a bit and increased the sensitivity of the trackpad, also allowing the trackpad to be disabled. They say they addressed various bug fixes but didnt state which so we'd have to see for ourselves. if anything make a backup and give it a go. i've been able to root it with the same one click root method.
the Odin went perfectly.. thanks ayoteddy. guess i'll root it and play around with the latest that Samsung/Tmo have for us..... until you guys release your next masterpiece, with these fixes baked in.
in the meantime, do you think the Bali kernel could be flashed onto this?
downloading when i get home from work!
Hey teddy. Do you plan on incorporating this update's fixes to your Smooth Maximus? This and the extended power menu and lockscreen mod will be an update to Ginger Clone?

huh, it didn't seem to work.... it seemed to complete the lagfix conversion, but then wouldn't boot, would stay at the Samsung screen, doing those force close vibrations. wonder if I forgot something....
I used CWM from Rom Manager, then flashed the CWM 3:xxx zip to flash the kernel.

in my experience, Set Partition should only take about 10 seconds until it moves on to the actual flashing, but sometimes it just hangs there forever. in that case I close Odin and maybe try again, or else try again without re-partition.... I dunno, Odin seems inconsistent, but it always seems to eventually work.

[Q] possible brick.......duno for sure

Hi guys, irecently attempted to flash a rom to make my phone more awesome but I feel I fudged up. My mounts were not set right I think but my phone still booted up like it should.....but on first boot my screen looked like a bill cosby sweater but that went away. Now. When I try to go nto recovery or dl mode,my screen is black n goes to normal boot. Did I damage my recovery? N if so can I get it back?
Tried to turn it on again n I just get bootloops, still no recovery or dl mode.
Also in rom manager it said cwm and recovery were present, but when I tried to go into recovery I got the same.
Any and I mean any help would b appreciated....thank you
You flashed gb. For that you need the bootloaders for gb. Until you get those you will always have the rainbow scree on boot and no recovery. Find and flash the kg4 leak that will straiten things out.

Yes you need Odin. Just check out the Bible and grab the Samsung USB drivers for you computer then install Odin. Then learn to boot into download mode. And you will be ready for flashing. There is a tutorial also in the Bible on flashing with odin. Here is the Bible link, learn it well if you intend on keeping the phone. Happy modding

Again......many, many thanks to you
Step 1. look at the bible. Look for the kg4 rom, pit file and odin are included in the download.
Step 2. to get into download mode, pull out the battery, plug in your phone, hold BOTH the volume up and down buttons, then plug in the battery. Congrats. Youre now in download mode.
Step 3. unzip all the files from the .rar file you just downloaded.
step 4. start odin and input all the files in the corresponding order. It tells you where each file goes.
step 5. Click start and wait.
step 6. your phone now works.

[Q] Help!

I was trying to put a kernel onto my Samsung Galaxy S 4g via Odin, and it got stuck on zImage for an hour, so I pulled the battery out. Now my phone is stuck on a screen with a phone with a dotted line connecting to a caution sign followed by a computer. I've looked at multiple forums on different websites on how to enter download mode through this screen, and nothing is working! If somebody can please help me you would be a life saver right now. Is there a way to fix this?
That is download mode. Its an alternate download mode that appears after a failed flash.

Heimdall one click and then flash your favorite ROM and kernel via CWM.
P.S You need download mode for both Odin and Heimdall.
sent from me
Or just reflash whatever you wanted to flash in the first place. I get this after every major flash and it just means that the kernel is having a major change. No big deal, just give it another flash and it should work the second time around... don't One-click unless you actually want stock.
Hi Theraze
One click actually cleans gremlins and is a good thing to do in between flashing ROM over ROM over ROM every now and then. The good thing about eollie''s version is that it's one flash that brings you to a position you can flash GB/ICS/JB right on top (CWM5) and it takes less than 5 minutes.

You can't bypass it you have to fix it. Reconnect with Odin and try the flash again. Sometimes it's that simple.

[Q] Tried rooting my phone first time, soft bricked it.

I got it rooted, installed a few apps and everything seemed to be working fine, i shut it off for the night and woke up yesterday morning and it gave me this screen.
(I cant post a link, but if you google Firmware Upgrade Encountered, it pulls up quite a few pictures of this same situation.
I can't get into download or recovery mode. The samsung logo will appear for a split second before this screen appears. Kies does not reconize the phone. All i want to do is get my phone to turn on and go back to stock settings.
Can anybody please help me?
Use odin to flash the stock rom. Did you pull the battery?

Im not sure where to get the stock rom.. and when i get it should i put it next to PDA and tick the same boxes i used to root it? Also, do i need to use a pit file?
EDIT: Also yeah, i did pull the battery out. Thats the only way to turn the phone off now, as it is completely unresponsive.
Go to Sammobile.com. you'll down load a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file out of it. Use that in PDA. Only have auto-reboot and f.reset checked.

Sorry to be such a noob.. but I looked around on that site and can't seem to find a .zip file to download.. the only files i can find are for phones that aren't mine.
You'll have to register, it's free. There is a firmware section on the site. It'll walk you through the type of phone, etc. And then give you s couple of files available for Doreen load. The newest one is ics

Im not sure how to tell if its recognizing it, I did try that with the battery, and after it downloaded there as an MD5 File and an application extension. what should I do with the extension?
You don't need the extension, just the md5. When you plug your phone into the computer with Odin running, the batter needs to be in, does the com port light up? I'm also assuming your Odin version is 1.85
