Yes. It'll work fine. The NVFlash recovery is there for when things go all wrong. "Reboot Recovery" with ROM Manager works fine for flashing ROM's and Kernels.

The update.zip is something I always keep on my SD card.
From stock, just reinstall packages and then flash the rom. Also always keep a TiBu backup off your phone.
Restoring takes minutes - the most annoying part is just redoing your widgets

[Q] Where did all my CWM optios go?

I know I'm probably just not doing something right but after I completely restored my infuse to factory and rerooted it, I'm trying to restore my backup I made from CWM and it seems all my options are missing from CWM when I boot into recovery mode. My options used to be gree and I had lots of options... one in particular was "restore and backup". So I can not restore from my backup now. Here is a pic of what my restore screen looks like. How do I fix this? Thanks!
Hit reinstall packages. You should have to do this twice

oh yea thats right... correct me if im wrong, don't I just take the file and place it on my sdcrd, boot into recover and install the zip?
First, you have to replace the stock 3e recovery with a modified version (disables signature checking). It's the "recovery" file in /system/bin. You do not use the recovery interface to install it. From there, you can flash your unsigned zips.
Alternatively, you can just flash an image using Odin.

To be honest I'm not 100 % sure I followed the steps of the nexus hacks on how to root and now trying to backup stock.img and I can't boot into recovery.
OK so I'm pretty sure I do I did it in rom manger

Looks like you're having issues getting into the recovery. That screen isn't the recovery, and I've had it before.
A lot of times, when you root on a stock rom, the phone deletes clockwork and restores the old recovery. That might be why you're having issues with it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
The second post on this thread describes how to make clockwork stick. You might need to make use of some adb commands OR get an app like Root Explorer.
1. Flash the recovery
2. Follow the instructions in the second post before rebooting your phone.
That should do it.

Actually it is. That's the stock recovery, but it's options are too limited which is why we use CWM.
Rest of your instructions should help the OP out though, good on that.

Just flash clockwork again and flash a non stock rom, or remove the file as described if u wanna stay stock.
Ya I think it was just freezing up got into recovery and installed new rom
I do thank everyone help

[Q] CWM Recovery vs stock recovery

after I flash CWM 6.0.1.2, if I reboot into recovery, the phone goes into Android system recovery. Why is that?
In order to go back to CWM Recovery, I have to go to ROM Manager, flash CWM 6.0.1.2 again, and then reboot into recovery. Once I am in CWM and need to exit (reboot), I get asked the following:
"ROM may flash stock recovery on boot. Fix?"
Yes - Disable recovery flash.
Should I click yes so the phone does not go into Android system recovery? there is a message that says this cannot be undone so I do not want to do something that may screw up my phone.
I am on stock but rooted, of course. Thanks.
Same thing happens to me. Even if I use twrp or cwm touch

So which is it? If you're always doing Power button > Reboot > Recovery you are booting into the NvFlash'd CWM recovery not ROM Manager

You can also use ROM manager to boot to recovery, the reason people advise against using the app altogether is because the fake flashing that ROM manager does.
ROM manager will boot into nvflash recovery successfully as long as you never flashed the fake recovery via ROM manager.
So again, if you never flashed via ROM manager, then holding power>reboot recovery = going to ROM manager and booting to recovery.

Not that it matters, but I have always flashed both recoveries. It's not that Rom Manager "fake" flashes it, it isn't flashed on a persistent partition that can be reached via button combo. I use Rom Manager and it's "fake" recovery mostly for nandroids. In reality, there's literally 2 separate recoveries, albeit, one is worthless in any "no boot" situation. Other than that, it's fine to flash roms and what not, just always have both, never just R M.

Before I'm pretty sure I downloaded a rom and it didn't have rom manager so I downloaded it from the play store and went into recovery through that and flashed a rom? Or is that normal?
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda app-developers app
That's fine, what we're all trying to explain is that if you mess up and your phone won't boot normally, you won't be able to recover it with the Rom Manager recovery since it is only accessible through a working a ROM. This is why we Nvflash it on a persistent partition that can be accessed regardless if you have a working rom or not. There's no difference between the two recoveries, only where they are flashed.

I agree. ROM Manager which should be named ROM Mangler has seriously messed up phones causing its victims many hours of panic and grief. Stay away from it.
Kinda off topic but if rom manager is so bad why is it included with custom roms? One of the first things i do is uninstall it with titanium backup
