I just got my Asus Transformer, I charged it full out of the box for 8 hours as initial charge. Should i drain it to 0 % and charge it for second time? or Just wait until 10 %?
Doesn't matter. I usually charge it when it gets to 10%.
For the first times I waited till 10% or something to fully recharge.
But after a lot of reading about the matter, I have found lots of opinions, so I think it doesn't make a big difference.
Regards.
Alright. Thanks man. Will just charge when 10%
From asus manual:
"Remember to fully charge the battery (8 hours or more) before first use and whenever it is depleted to prolong battery life. The battery reaches its maximum capacity after a few full charging and discharging cycles."
After awhile, Lithium-Ion Batteries don't really care how you charge them, or what their capacity is. Charging a battery at say 50% vs 10% won't really add that much more juice. I wouldn't really concern yourself OP..
Guys, the first 8hour charging means that I must charge separatly 8hours tablet and next 8hours dock? Because I put dock and tablet together and charge it 8hours. Was it wrong? Then I was using it connected tablet+dock together until it was showned warning that battery dropped under 5% and orange LED on the side of dock was blicking. Then I charged it again together and after 5hour of charging, LED is green and tablet shows 100%. Is it OK? Did I do something wrong?
Thanks
One question to you guys: During the first 8 hour charge, were you able to turn on the tablet? Because mine is sitting since 2 hours now and it won't turn on.
I have managed to turn it on.It required to keep the On button for about 10 seconds.

You're fine. The goal is to get the batteries fully charged rather than, say, up to 50% and then stop.
Last I read, LiPo batteries do not need deep cycling to maximize battery life or restore lost capacity due to battery "memory." Some recommend an initial full charge followed by full depletion, but go on to note that is largely to calibrate battery usage stats. I keep most of my LiPo devices plugged in when I'm not using them, because those batteries require "smart" chargers that stop charging when the batteries are full.
If someone has good info to the contrary, I'd love to hear it. But, with well-made devices and chargers, there is no need to follow any sort of careful battery charging regimen. Use it when you need it, and charge it when it needs a charge.

Mine was partially charged and turned on out of the box. Perhaps you have a power button with a loose connection? As long as it's working now, I would not worry about it.
finally today I recive my TR from US,& question is
are all of you guys ,charged 8 hours your TF
coz my is after 3 hours of charging TF is full 100%
& stay like that almost 2 hours more...
should I wait more 2 hours(for calibration reason)
or I can use it now
In the manual, it says charge for 8 hours before first use. I doubt that using before 8 hours is up will damage anything, but why risk it? I'd leave it on the charger.

Thanks for reply. My TF last 15hours of work after second charging. I think everything is OK with battery.

Right in the little pamphlet (that counts as a manual ) under the TF in the box. I'm sure, because it's one of the few times I've read a manual in the last decade.
I´m charging my new TF for the first time and it´s reached 100% after 3 hours. Is it ok to start using it now or must i wait 5 more hours for the 8 that´s stated in the asus-booklet?
You could use it while its charging. First charge is really important. Dont stop the charge

Hi guys
I should be picking up my SGS2 today and I was just wondering what exactly I should be doing with the battery? I've read in a bunch of places that draining the battery fully and then recharging it fully gives better battery life, but I've also read this:
Lithium ion batteries do not respond well to full discharge, you will see reduced capacity and early failure if it happens too often. In any case it is not possible to overcharge the battery on a BlackBerry because the battery and phone have enough intelligence to control the charge (unless the battery is already defective).

(this is from crackberry.com but you get the idea)
What's the best thing to do?
And on Android phones, when the battery indicator shows 20% or something, is that when the phone is going to die? Or will it die at 0%? Obviously at 20% it would be to protect the battery but maybe Android has been programmed to show 0% when the battery is actually at 20%.
Thanks,
Elliott

The manual is probably stored on the phone, at least my new Ascend II came with its stored on the phone, you have to goto the big menu (forgive me for not knowing the technical term for it) to find it however
i got my battery fully charged...then in the first day i discharged it till 10% at least that's what my phone was saying
i read too that the new li-ion batteryes do not need to be "formated" (fully discharged till the phone dies and then fully charged with the phone turned off) in android case i think that thing is not posible coz it needs at least 5% to pass the bootloader and then begin to charge
anyway in my manual it says that the battery will begin the normal state after 8 days of use, until then it may disschage quick
i have a motorola defy
Calibrate the battery. Charge the phone while its switched off for about 6 hours, and then use the phone untill the entire battery runs out and it switches off on its own. After this, the phone should be able to use the battery properly.
i just used my galaxy and made it empty, then charged it full.
nowadays i have runtimes from 3days (72 hours) and then its @ about 5%
there seems to be a lot of back-and-forth regarding whether or not draining a battery is healthy; i drain my iphone battery down to zero about once a month and the battery has been doing fine for two years . . . whether it would be doing just as well without the draining time is anyone's guess.
I have always been under the impression that lit-ion batteries do not need any kind of special care or break in. But since our phones estimate the charge, we should occasionally let the battery run out to reset the calibration in case it gets screwed up.

I don't think you need to worry about draining the battery till it's dead. My phone dies often and the battery is still kickin It's my understanding, that the purpose of draining the phone before you charge it is to calibrate what the OS says for charge remaining to the battery's actual charge.
Or something like that...
Hi all,
I have my sgs 2 since June and it's working pretty well apart from the battery drain which is very harmful in my daily life
I've recently flashed the Cognition 1.30 (last friday). Before that, my sgs was able to last the entire day before discharging with a moderate use (10-20 mn on games, few sms, 15 mn consulting mails, 1 hr on internet). Since i've flashed with the cognition Rom, the battery drain is really awesome!!!!!!
I fully charge the phone (switched off) then when i switch it on and the phone stays idle, after 1 hr or so, i've already lost almost 20%. When i'm on internet or playing games, the battery loss is approximatively of 1% per min.
I've made a full wipe and recalibrated my battery so normally it should at least last a day and thats not the case.
Could somebody help me or should i buy a new battery and test it ?
Because i relly like this rom and from others users, it has a good feedback concerning the battery use
I thought there was a thread or post that stated how to charge this thing out of the box.
I can't find it by searching now.
Out of the box, what should we be doing?
Full charge, halfway then let drain, etc..
Let it drain (within 2%). Charge fully. Drain again. Charge. Use as usual.

This isnt necessarily transformer-specific but applies to Li-ion batteries in general. Fully charge (the instruction manual that comes with the tablet specifically says 8 hours), fully drain, fully charge. After the second charge, use it as you want.
I keep reading a variety of ways people approach battery issues and I meant to post this in its own thread. I'll try and do it today.
I believe I am summing it up correctly by saying... Most manufacturers ship products with the battery approximately 40% on purpose. You should charge your device to 100% when you get it. After that, you can essentially use it normally but they recommend you never let the battery drain down very low - that is not good for a Lith Ion battery. I take that to mean not letting it get below around 10%. So, the first post is essentially correct except that you shouldn't let it go to 2%.
For ongoing use, the site recommends charging when the device is off (I know we can't always do this) and never letting it drain down very low. "Top off charges" are fine.
Here is where their summary table is:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_charge_when_to_charge_table
But.... poke around the different topics if you are really interested.
I did wonder about "battery calibration" too but I *think* that is only necessary for devices you never let run very low. For example, a laptop you leave plugged in most of the time. You can find their discussion at the link near the bottom of the left column.

Hello guys! So I just bought an extended battery from Zerolemon for my S5.
My question is, should I charge it for 12 hours before prior use like the manual stated? Or fully discharge it first before charge as some reddit folks suggested?
Thanks!
Like manual say

After first full charge, run it down to 2% like it also recommends. Help to condition battery, I do it to mine once in a while. Have this one for almost a year now and it is working quite well, can't say there has been any depreciation to run time yet.
Which app is this ??

That is correct,
I may be mistaken as I don't have the little instruction sheet., but there is some additional time in hours after the phone says it has reached 100% full charge that it needs to remain connected to finish "topping" of the battery. Although I would argue that it is almost impossible, given that any algorithm the phone uses to charge one brand of lithium battery vs. another hasn't changed when the battery has been swapped out, and charging should stop once the phone see the correct internal voltage. Yet ZeroLemom recommends to leave it to charge.
The final ~10% is quite misleading as far as how long it will stay on before it finally turns off due to low voltage cut out. I had mine running for over a day and a half sometimes before it finally turns off. Very annoying that low battery message, would have liked to know a way to change the notification, or either actually entering a new mAh rating in the ROM's data so a more accurate approximation of useful charge still remaining can be properly calculated/displayed.

I see, thanks for the tip. Last question, how did you treated the battery after the first charge cycle? Did you still charged it for 12 hrs or only until the phone says it is "charged"?

I personally only left it on for about 8 hours. Typically plugging the phone in to the charger when going to sleep and disconnecting when I wake.

Hey so I got it last 2 days ago and it on its way to its first discharge now. Should I fully let the battery drain to 0% or just charge it when it hits 1%? What would you do?
It's really up to you, I would at least reach the 2%. Any further past that point may or may not matter. I've let it go before until it turns off on its own, but like I said in a previous post the low battery warnings drove me nuts.

Hi!
I have a question.
My S22 Ultra will arrive this week and I don't know how to charge on the first couple of days/weeks.
There is the option to protect the battery and don't charge over 85%. should I use this option on these first days or charge it until 100%????
On my daily basis perhaps I'll use that option, what do you think?
Thanks a lot.
i keep it at 85% setting ever since it was introduced
PLEASE HELP!!!

Just charge it normally. You'll definitely need to have it on the charger during the initial setup.

You can use it straight from the go and not worry about anything.
My tired and true method when I first get a new phone is by calibrating the battery to run for optimal usage. I let the battery drain the first time until the phone shuts off and then charge it to 100%. I do this again one more time. After that I just charge it to 100% and let it drain and top up however and whenever I feel like it.
There's a couple of reasons for this. First battery life isn't a strong suit for this phone unlike say an iPhone 13 pro max so I'm not going to waste my time running towards a charger all the time. Secondly, the benefits of charging between 75-85 percent and 20-25 percent is negated or lost on me because I'll most likely move on to a new phone by the time the extra battery life that I've managed to squeeze out can be taken advantage of. Now if you're likely the type of person who's going to hold on to his phone until it dies or will be willing to change out the battery to continue using it, then by all means go ahead and toggle the option and follow that road..
Hope this helps..
Plug it in, charge, use it - then plug it in again etc... smartphones aren't made to last forever, after a few years they all become an obsolete junk - that's my personal opinion, you can follow any charging routines you like.
Minimum start charge battery temperature is 72F, 82-90F is better.
Never start charging if below 40F.
Best not to drain past 20%, 30% is better.
72% is a better top off number.
Regardless of how much you charge it, observe the minimum start charge temperature.
Once a battery has reached 80% of it's new capacity it is degraded and should be replaced to prevent a failure which can heavily damage the phone.
A degraded Li is more likely to fail.
Any battery swelling (rear cover bulge) is a failure, do not charge, replace asap. A failure can happen at any time in the battery's life cycle and they can happen fast.
I now replace my N10+ batteries every 1-2 years, routine maintenance.
