WHAT EXTERNAL BATTERY ARE YOU USING???
I am deciding to get a external battery for 3 reasons.
1) I forgot my charger a few time, thinking my old one works on new phone.
2)Otterbox will not fit with extended battery. (That's when it comes out for this phone.)
3)I like to keep my phone as light as possible.
What external batteries are you using???
Would you buy the model and brand again???
Knowing what you know now after using for a while. Are you happy with your purchase???
Thank you for looking.

But I do have the energizer xp4001 that i use for various other devices. it works well. charges my phone at 950mah, much faster than many models that seem to only output 500mah.

I think I'm going to put together a Mintyboost or something similar unless an 1800 mAh battery that doesn't require a new caseback comes out.
i use this generic tmobile battery ignore the pretty purple car charger plug i have plugged in i leave it in my work van
there is nothing as part numbers or product name it has a small switch that goes from phone to battery and a mini usp to charge the battery and full size usb to charge the phone

I use this for an external power source:
http://www.smarthome.com/50619/Lumi...er-for-Lithium-and-AA-or-AAA-Batteries/p.aspx
I just use old cell phone batteries. I have alot of G1 batteries that I've collected lol. Might as well put them to good use. I use this, only if I know that I am not going to be charging my phone for a long period of time. Before I bought this, I used 4 AA NiMH connected to a female usb plug.
I have a Powermonkey Explorer. It's a bit pricey, although I received it as a gift. It came with various tips for things like an iPod.
I had to buy a $2 mini-to-micro USB converter tip on Amazon to use it for my previous phone (Blackberry) and now the G2x.
It charges the phone pretty well and came with a solar panel which I only tested (works fine), but haven't found personally useful yet.

Wow, that's is definitely out if my price range. But it super cool setup.

I know Verizon charges $20 for their wall charger (http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...ryDetails&archetypeId=11564&accessoryId=43450)
I purchase one on ebay for $3 shipped (http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320715214830) It is OEM SAMSUNG model: ETA0U10JBE
So far, it has worked perfect. I do not hear the humming sound like those cheap no-name brand make. I figure I pass this deal along as $20+ tax vs $3 out the door for the same result is a bargain.
The item shipped from Brooklyn, New York and I got it 3 days.
Side note - I would like to order another Retractable Sync cable. I confirmed this one works with flashing all of the ROM (Odin). The best deal is 99 cents on ebay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-USB-U...878730?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2a114ce60a), but it ships from Hong Kong. I did find one for $2.88 shipped from the US. (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Retractable...272649?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item2eb4b53f09)
Thank you!
Hey thanks for the tip! Ordered two!
Amazon also offers a Samsung OEM charger for $2.95 if you don't want to deal with Fleabay. I got a couple these and they work fine, although the cable is fairly short.

The picture on Amazon shows it is .7A
Def .7 amps and yes they are Galaxy S OEM chargers
Paired with a 6' cable it's perfect setup for office
It'll charge slower than the OEM one. But at least it's cheap.

Can someone who has these chargers download Current Widget from the market and use it to measure how many mA these chargers actually provide. The one included with the phone charges at about 370 mA. (This figure is different than the 'rated' amperage, which is the max through the outlet. I would like to know how much is going actually into the battery)

i do alot of snowboarding, which typically involves alot of battery being used for my headphones/ internet radio and gps trail maps. there are also alot of situations where i am not able to have access to an outlet when needed. the one s has fairly decent battery life for a smart phone, but lets be honest, smart phone batteries suck. rather then mess with roms and optimizing battery life to squeeze an extra hour or 2 of usage i decided to just grab an external battery. i also dont like having much bulk in my pocket so i wanted something slim that was close to the same dimensions as the one s.
what i bought is the ultra slim touch control 4000mah mobile charger by power rover off of ebay for $39.99. its roughly the same width and thickness as the one s and is about 1.5cm shorter ( 65X115.5X7.5mm). its also constructed of aluminum so it matches the phone well. its got a nice heavy weight and feels solid and not cheap in any way. it has a similar feel and shape of an ipod classic.
the charger uses the same micro usb as the one s for charging, then it uses a standard usb port for the power output. the charger comes with a small usb to micro usb cable roughly 6" or 8" long, and also comes with a few adapters for different charging ports. the great thing about the included cable is that it can be used to charge the charger, then flipped into the outlet port and plugged directly into the one s so you shouldnt need to mess with multiple cables. i wouldnt say the cable is very high quality but should get the job done for a while.
ive now had some time to play with it an get an idea of the performance. the charger will fully charge in about 4 hours, and charges the one s in a similar amount of time as using the usb adapter. after completely draining my phone to the point where it wont power on anymore then plugging in the charger i was able to get 1.56 charges with practically zero use on the phone. in real world terms id bet you could get a full charge and a little more if you had heavy usage while charging. im a little disappointed as i was hoping for 2 full charges but its still completely usable. i dont have any other experience with portable chargers so i cant really compare its claimed output and real world figures. another small problem is the battery status is completely inaccurate. the charger drained to "25%" within 45minutes of charging, however that last 25% was able to finish off that charge, then charge a 2nd time to 56% so should be taken with a grain of salt.
with the phone stacked ontop of the charger its approximately 5/8" thick, and with it stacked using my distronic case its about 3/4". not exactly thin but pretty impressive considering it can extend your use about 1.5 times and your average cell phone was that thick (or larger) not to long ago.
im not sure if im allowed to post ebay links here but it can be found fairly easily.
to sum up
great build quality
solid feel
inaccurate battery display
decent performance

Dude cut your thumb nail!
Looks interesting and would like to hear how many chargers it manages. Looking at it some small plastic grips could be glued on to use it like a phone cradle which can be picked up cheap on ebay then modded for purpose. Depending on how it performs I may get myself one of these.

These portable battery chargers are great. I had picked on up from frys after killing my battery in a half day taking and streaming pictures for an event I went to. I can't remember off the top of my head who makes it, but I can get almost 3 charges out of it. It also has the second usb port for a tablet.
I can look at the model when I get home if anyone is interested.

Having the Nexus 4 as my main device at the moment, there are things that I have to adapt to.
For one, there is not a removable battery so I have to carefully manage my battery. Using this device moderately and managing data settings, wifi, brightness, etc.. you can easily go a whole day if not more.
But playing games is a big no-no when away from a charger, on any smartphone. Add being on IM, listening to Spotify, and running uTorrent you better be prepared to have a mini coal mine in your back pocket.
With my S3 I could just swap batteries and be good to go. When I had my S2 I could just throw on my 3500 mAh extended battery. When I had my Note 2 I didn't manage jack due to the monster battery.
So I started looking for an extended battery charger for my Nexus 4 so I wouldn't never had to worry. Monoprice, like always, seemed to offer one of the better ones and at a fair price. $28.95 for a 5,000 mAh external battery with 2 USB ports. One at 1 amp for smart phones and the other port at 2.1 amps for tablets.
Pros
Charges phone quickly
Unit is charged via micro USB
Nice soft coating
Size gives me 2+ full charges on Nexus 4
Good build quality
Uses USB to output charge
2.1 Amp port for tablets is a plus, even though I have not used it due to not having a tablet
LEDs, when button is clicked, show current charge for battery
Automatically stops charging when device is fully charged
Cons
Again a problem that I did not run into myself, but if you charge a smartphone and a tablet you only get 2.1 amps of total output.
Size could be a little slimmer, then again this is a 5,000 mAh battery. (There is a smaller unit available that could solve this if you need a smaller unit).
The button on the ext. Battery has the iPhone/iPad button design that I found to be quite tacky, but obviously does not effect its usability.
The battery when fully drained will take a while to charge, being a 5,000 mAh battery of course, thats a given.
To get a mental picture of the size of this battery, its about the size of an iPod classic, just a bit shorter. I also took some snapshots of it.
I have used the battery for 2 weeks and can say I am very satisfied with the product. I even found myself using it while at home on the couch or any other area where an outlet is hard to get to. On Christmas day, while watching basketball, I sat on the couch with the battery hooked to my Nexus 4. I didnt have to sit awkwardly by an outlet whenever my battery got low.
P.S. The days of having to lay logs in the pooper and noticing horrifically thar your phone only has 5% battery life left are over!
$36 extra for delivery to Sydney, Australia
I really wanna buy one of these or a similar decent quality but they seem expensive in Aus.
I'm thinking buying this one, smaller and maybe pocketable
Should be enough to full charge the nexus 1 time.

I have the same external battery have used it on vacation a few times. Makes for a nice backup power source and I have had no issues with it.
I was close to getting that one too, flashlight seemed useful. If it would have had a key hold or lanyard slot I would have gotten it for my keys.
I went for the bigger battery.

Any port will do...either 1A or 2.1A
The phone/battery have a regulator/BMS...you plug in 2.1A port the phone will only draw what it needs and normally is limited to 1A or so

Thanks for the review. Been wanting a battery charger for a while and just ordered this one. I used the coupon code "INCENTIVE" to get 20% off. It expires today though.
i just got the charger today, the 1a port does deliver around 900mah. i think this is more of the phone throttling down the current since the 1.2a factory charger shows the same output.
The 2a port works on my phone(still only delivers around 900mah) but wont charge my nexus 7 at all.
Looks a must-have battery for those who travel.
Can anyone suggest a coupon? I tried looking online but couldn't find anything useful.
Thanks!

The 9000mAh battery is only $29 right now.

Costs a dollar more than the 5000mAh but packs a lot more juice.
Just picked up the 5000mAh... its good.. I charged my N4 and my moms phone at the same time.. for some reason it doesnt want to charge my Asus Transformer TF300... that sucks.. tried both ports... Its fairly small also... I like it definitely a good buy.. I also bought another cable for my N4 coz the stock cable sucks money balls.. these ones are gold plated and works really well...

I also have the motorola, but the light on it is way bright and is horrible when driving at night.
This griffin thing is just as powerful, can charge both phones, and has no annoying light.
The only charger you will need is the scocshe revolt c2. It's the only charger that charges both ports at 2.1a. Others do 2.1 and 1.0. Meaning, with a couple of charge only cables (sold separately) you can charge 2 of anything at full speed. Even a iphone and a nexus 7.

I thought I was going insane when the N9005 cable to me looked so scrawny & tiny (I have a UAE Blush), but then I compared it to my SM-900T & the 900T cable is a full foot longer. Whys samsung even bother...I have never heard of this happening, but its amusing.
Not entirely sure about the varied lengths between the 900* and 9005 between regions besides this one but...I honestly dont see why people outside of NA have to suffer with stupidly shorter cables, Unless its a UAE thing but it couldnt even go behind a dresser, maybe I lost the secret cable cutting length war.
cable lenght
I was wondering about this too, I am from mexico, and my cable is the longest, 130 cm, and the thickest, 4 mm, in some way it is a little cumbersome, so, I got a wireless charger, it charges at a slower rate, but has the aditional benefit of less wearing off the usb port, I charge my phone at night, so the charging time is not important, an? I carry a rechargeable batt charger of 3000 mA in my car
Mine seemed loads shorter then my previous s4 and s3 cables. This one doesn't even reach my bed.
It's really annoying seen as though it is the new usb 3.0 design and other cables charge slower..
Samsung are pushing my patience lately with all the knox crap and software faults etc.. seem they are really going downhill.

Yup my cable seems pretty short also compared to my S3 cable. Must be some reasoning behind it though. - I have USB fast charge enabled too so it helps a bit in regards to i can leave it for a short while and it'll have enough juice to do what I need before the overnight charge
This.....is a very secretly suggestive thread......

Mine seemed loads shorter then my previous s4 and s3 cables. This one doesn't even reach my bed.

Carrier cables seem to be longer, ordering an oem pulled from 900* should solve that problem though

Ah, no, they don't. The Note 3 transfers at usb3.0 speed, but it can only charge at 2.0 speed. Using a 2.0 cable really makes no difference...
